I took a Nandroid backup of my OnePlus One shortly before it was sent to a watery grave. I got the Oneplus Three to replace it and I installed Titanium (I have the Pro version) in the hopes that I could restore my important information from my Nandroid. Now I know that Nandroid is a full image of the phone and so restoring everything is unwise as I'm on a different phone and OS. But I'd like to get back my app data in addition to the multiple app profiles I set up in Titanium.
Now Titanium WILL find the Nandroid backup I dragged over to the internal SD and it'll extract a list of the apps available to restore and whatnot. I can check them off and hit the restore button. A loading screen will come up that'll be stuck on 0% for a while and then after some time it'll immediately jump to 100% and tell me the batch backup completed. However, upon inspecting the app drawer nothing has changed. The only app I successfully restored was GasBuddy.
I DO have USB Debugging enabled and I have disabled "Mount Namespace Separation" in SuperSu.

Hi there,
About a month ago I bought an HTC Thunderbolt and somebody helped me root the phone. Since then I have had some family emergency/issues that have caused me to put programming the phone on hold. Now that they have cleared up I am trying to now learn a little bit more about upgrading Rom/Kernel/Radio.
I am running the following:

Can somebody tell me how to backup my phone entirely?
I would like to back it up with the intent:
* Install different kernel/radio/rom and keep the same android apps without reinstalling
each one individually.
or
* Restore the phone to its current state (if I should drop the phone and get a
replacement).
I do have titanium backup pro installed but it has never been used. Is this all I need?
I seem to recall that there is a backup feature on this phone that was discouraged....

The key for me is to
Use Nandroid (the backup feature in recovery) for a full image backup. Use Titanium to backup individual applications.
Before restoring nandroid backups, be sure to wipe cache and Dalvik (under advanced in recovery).
Nandroid takes nearly the entire phone back to the point of backup (houses everything you have on your phone's internal memory). Titanium allows backups to be restored on different roms. Some apps and many system apps don't play nicely with Titanium, but most from the market do play nicely with it.
Installing new kernels doesn't require wiping your data. Installing new/updated roms does. Installing themes usually does not, but there are exceptions.

Per your input I updated to Rom Manager PRO and then simply selected "Backup Current ROM". I assume that this covers everything on the phone including radio/kernel/apps....

Yes, CWM is how you want to backup your phone entirely. I would recommend going into recovery and making a backup on your own instead of hitting the "backup my current rom" button in rom manager. The backup you make will be saved in a folder on your SD card named clockworkmod/backup. I always think its a good idea to move your backups to your computer and keep your two or three most recent backups on your sdcard.
As for backing up your apps, you can do a batch backup in titanium and when you load a new rom you will be able restore the app and any data associated with it. As a general rule I would only backup apps that require a lot of setup. Otherwise when you load a new ROM the apps you had previously installed will automatically restore (depending on the ROM). Just a tip, dont backup system apps. Doing so and switching versions, for example froyo to gingerbread, could cause many issues down the road even if they aren't immediately seen.
Lastly, when installing a new ROM you always want to wipe data/factory reset at least twice and wipe cache and dalvik cache twice each as well. If you have any issues dont hesitate to ask there are many people who are willing to help.
Go to ROM Manager, scroll down and select Backup Current ROM.
I use two apps for backing up and restoring installed apps; Titanium Pro and MyBackup Pro. For some reason MBP successfully restores the apps + data that fail using TP. For example, apps installed from the Amazon android market.
I create full backups with both TP and MBP, but when I need to restore ( after a complete data wipe and new Rom flash) I do the following:
1) skip setting up my Google account during the initial setup process that starts after user data has been wiped.
2) Uncheck the box that allows backups to Google's servers
3) After setup is finished, go into settings, privacy and deselect the automated backup options
( If I don't do the previous two steps, then Google starts pushing apps that may have been backed up and/ or apps that I have purchased. I don't want this to happen since I am going to do my own restore with data.)
4) I use TP to restore MBP only
5) I then use MBP to restore the rest of my user apps and data.
Some may disagree with my two backup app process, but it has been more successful for me than using either TP or MBP by themselves.
If something doesn't go right with MBP, I still have the full TP backup to pull from.
I do not bother backing up systems apps just because it seems to cause me too many issues when i attempt the restore. This means i have to redo any system settings, but that isn't a big deal to me.
Some of my favorite apps have backup features of their own. Folder Organizer and Circle Launcher are two of my all time favorites. Both restore nicely when i move to a new Rom.
Occasionally, i copy the TP, MBP, and Clockwork folders from my sdcard to a folder on my laptop just in case.
The above may sound like alot, but it goes pretty quick for me and I flash quite a bit ( at least once or twice a week when the device is new and the Rom cookers are really active).
Another thought, I have used MBP to successfully restore my android home screen settings for sense ( part of MBP's data bu ). My preferred launcher is LauncherPro, which has its own backup and restore function.
Finally, i always do a nandroid backup before wiping and flashing to a new Rom. I also always do the backup right from clockwork mod recovery. I love the Rom Manager app and paid for the premium version quite a while ago, but i prefer to backup, wipe and flash from the recovery screen. Even if i download something that needs to be flashed using Rom Manager, I still reboot into recovery to perform the needed steps.
Hope this helps and if someone has another app backup/ restore routine they use successfully i would love to know the steps. I am open to learning something new.

Lets say that I'm on stock 2.2, rooted. I do a nandroid backup. Then I allow the upgrade for 2.2.2. Of course I lose root.
Will a nandroid restore, restore root, or will I have to root again?
A full nandroid restore will restore everything - the system and data - and you will be right back where you were, on 2.2 and rooted.

If you just wanna backup and restore your apps, use Titanium Backup (it's free on the Market).
Nandroid backs up your entire phone. When you restore a nandroid backup your phone will be exactly like it was when you made the backup. Restoring a nandroid backup is used to recover from a crash or to revert to a previous ROM.
After a ROM change I will set up my accounts, root if needed and do any other basic setup stuff and then, before installing any apps, do a nandroid backup. I can then go back to a "fresh install" if I want to. I also do a nandroid each weekly to capture the state of my phone.
Backing up apps and restoring them across different ROMs may or may not work for you. When I have tried this with Titanium Backup I had many force closes and ended up reinstalling everything from the market. Others have had success. I have read the MyBackup pro does better, but most suggest that you just backup and restore data not the app itself.
I have not tried backing up my apps to Google, which you can do in later versions of Android. Go to Privacy in the setting menu and then to Backup and restore. There are boxes for data backup and automatic restore you can check. maybe someone who has used this can comment on how well it works.
If your nandroid backups hang up at "backing up firstboot" get the latest version of StreakMod Recovery.

After installing a fresh ROM and rooting my device, the first thing I do is install Busybox. Then, with Titanium Backup I do Restore Apps Only, then reboot my device. I never get any FC's with this restore process.

I've used Titanium BU, and have busybox installed too.
It was just a matter of if after an update (OTA), and restore with Nandroid, would root still be in place.

I prefer mybackup root to titanium. It's far more user friendly and more automated (in the free version). As for nandroids, I always take a backup before doing any system changes (hacks or rom updates) so I can roll back to a known good system if needs be.
BTW - it is a good idea to copy your ROM backups to another device, just in case your SD card dies. I copy mine to one of my desktop computers and to a USB drive. I usually back up my entire SD card, except my music folders, every couple of weeks.
Where does Nandroid put the backups so I can rename them and save off phone?
mine (from Streakmod recovery) are in /sdcard/rom_backup
StreakMod recovery puts the backups on the SD Card in a folder named rom_backup.
Each backup is in a sub-folder of it's own and uses a date-time format for the folder name. I rename the folders with a meaningful name by just pre-pending to the name. So my last backup is named BB351-2011-06-18-02.41.04. The following files are created:
.android_secure.img
boot.img
cache.img
data.img
firstboot.img
recovery.img
system.img
nandroid.md5
the md5 file is a text file that contains the md5 sums for the other files. This file is used to verify the other files when they are restored.
hey guys i have a quick question about titanium backup, i did a couple of backups on titanium, is there a way i can restore only the latest backup because when i go to restore it shows me all my apps from my previes backups...
you can restore them 1 by 1, not sure if there is a option to restore only the latest as any backup you do will overwrite the one you did before (if it is them same app), whereas there is for instance an option to only restore apps with data changes if I remember well.

I think if we backup using the pro version, the backup file will be only 1 LATEST BACKUP per app
you can set titanium to keep as many backups as you want, if you only want to restore certain ones, then until the ones you don't want to r restore.....it's not exactly rocket science
I have a problem with restoring some apps' .TiKB files. I have them saved to my BOX account and when in try to import them, some eier work or some just shows operation canceled. Why is this happening?
I used to back up every week until i got a message about running out of space, you only actually need 1 backup in Titanium and maybe keep a spare backup in Dropbox or Box or on your laptop in case, i delete a backup every week after updating apps, restart the phone and then backup so it's a fresh backup.
thats not the hting though. my problem is that i made backups for apps/games for the easy import method(from BOX using the .TiBkp files) and so for some apps/games it lets me restore and some say operation canceled. why does it not let me restore. any idea why?

I've been using Titatium Backup for several years for the option "Redo backups for modified data" never worked. It always detects all the apps to backup, so it's useless. Even if I back app now and I try to do it in 5 minutes, it will attempt to backup everything again.
So it's not actually the "modified" data, it's just everything.

I have an LG G5 with LOS 14.1 and the Donate version of Titanium Backup. I'm trying to restore some apps from a recent TWRP backup.
I can select the apps I want to restore and TB goes though the process of restoring the apps.
At the end TB says the restores are complete, but there is no change and none of the missing apps are restored!
Can some please tell me how to fix this? Thanks!

TiBu is broken.
I've moved to Migrate in Google Play.
I've figured out how to restore an app from a TWRP nandroid backup.
1. Clear the app's cache
2. Put phone in airplane mode (to prevent app communication between steps 3 & 4)
3. Use the Nandroid Manager 2.4.2 app to restore the app only from the TWRP backup.
4. Immediately afterwards use Titanium to restore the data only from the TWRP backup.
5. Disable airplane mode
6. Start the app
This works perfectly, because Nandroid Manager chokes on restoring data, and Titanium chokes on restoring apps. It takes extra time, but so what - restoring an app is an essential operation.
