Is there anyway to disable the flashlight permanently in system files? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there, I have a old samasung galaxy s3 that I gave to my girlfriend to use for pokemon go but the flashlight on it keeps randomly going on and off even when using it normally and even when it's not in use, is there any way to permanently disable it in system files? I know it's not a app causing it or the custom rom as I've put a lot of different roms on it with the same result so it must be damaged somehow

I don't know, if you can disable it with system file, but if you are familiar with programming, you can write Xposed Module which hooks android Flashlight Turn On method and disable it. On the other hand it looks like physical problem which can't be solved with software.

[Q] apps that require permissions not needed for task

hi!
i didnt have a smartphone for a while and i just got a shining new nexus 4.
i want to installs all the apps out there but i realise many of them require permissions that (i think) are not actually needed by the app to do whatever it needs to do..
for example i want to install power toggles it asks to use my camera... cant the flashlight be turned on without allowing the camera to be used?
anyways, i realise that apps that sometimes do the exact same things require different permissions, hence... ?
so yeh, main question is: is the permission to use the camera really required by an app that turns on the led?

short answer: yes.
semi-long answer: in android, there are things called events (wrong jargon?). in order to slim down the OS, only one of each type of event is written into the code. the event to activate your led is stored within the camera apk. in order to use the event, the app needs to open camera in order to activate the event. it isnt actually taking pictures.
but you are right to be cautious. downloading perhaps a game that doesnt use your camera or led but wants access to it may be bad. or if you download an app that requires no internet access to use, has no adds, and no email/feedback option but DOES want internet or contact access, this may be bad.
hope this helped!

Do you have experimental mode enabled? I think you need the donation pack as well as root to greenify system apps.
didnt know about that, i tried going to experimental features and you are right donation package is needed however it says xposed is needed also, is xposed compatible with s6 edge? afraid of installing stuff to brick my device. I was trying to avoid rooting it for now since i see alot of people are bricking their devices, waiting for a fix.
Has anyone noticed some improvements using greenify with s6?

You don't need Xposed to greenify system apps. There are some other features in the experimental section that it enables, but you don't need them. (And you are right that xposed is not compatible with the edge).
However, if you are not rooted the System freezing doesn't work very well in my experience. It freezes them but they often start running again on their own. Thus you wind up with it trying to close them all down each time you turn off the phone. You might be better off disabling what apps you can manually instead.
Overall I didn't find Greenify to be great when not rooted - sometimes it gets stuck pressing the keys to force close the apps. The best way I found was to use tasker to trigger the hibernation when the phone has been idle for ~10minutes, but it was still a bit iffy.
It will probably be good enough to get you by for now if you think you will root later, but I am not sure I would bother if you probably won't ever root.

I just had a look but unfortunately I don't have the profile anymore to export it for you.
Doing it from scratch would be a bit daunting if you have never used Tasker before.
You basically need to:
1. Set a variable for the display state (ie, on, off and unlocked). %DisplayState
2. Have a task for the screen unlock which sets a variable %NeedToGreenify or similar.
3. Have a task for the when screen off event triggers and %NeedToGreenify is set. This task waits 10 minutes. Then check if the screen is still off - this is what %DisplayState is for (Stop if it is not). Clear %NeedToGreenify. Trigger Hibernate (Greenify is a 3rd Party Plugin). Wait 30 seconds. Turn the screen off "SecureSettings - LockDevice".
I think I may have also used SecureSettings to keep the screen on while the process is running. You will also need to set the task options to "abort existing task" if it is already running.
I think this is how it worked, but it was a while ago :/

What service stops the second screen from working?

Anyone figure out exactly what service causes the second screen to stop working? Since I've got root on MM now I have been tweaking my startup programs.
In lollipop there seems to be a service that if you disable it will stop the second screen from working; re-enabling the services does not restore function of the second screen.
Has anyone identified the specific program on these phones that cause it? I need to know so I dont disable it on accident. Right now I have not touched system services for fear I'll end up with a non-functioning screen again.
So far, I don't know of specific apps. I've been trying to find out for a while before giving up and reset the V10 to get the second screen back in full operation. http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v10/help/screen-t3256541
I just end up removing apps that aren't related to LG. Some AT&T, if not all, were disabled. Didn't have time to just figure out one by one disabling and figuring out which app can kill the second screen.
Do you have xposed installed some people say that it is from xposed
I don't have xposed installed, it was definitely one of the system apps that causes it, the problem is once you disable the app that causes it re-enabling doesn't fix it you have to factory wipe which is why I want to avoid this.
This was when I was under lollipop so I am not 100 positive this behavior happens under rooted marshmallow or not. I'm considering doing a titanium backup and then finding it out myself, was just hoping someone knew.
I've disabled quite a few services and have lucked out and haven't disabled the second screen. I don't intend on freezing or disabling any more apps until someone can identify the app that will do this.
Sent from my LG-H901 using XDA-Developers mobile app

I haven't tried, but I would guess the "Second Screen" app would probably be responsible for it. It's in Titanium Backup.

How to disable the clipboard?

I have one question that I have been unable to solve myself: How do I disable the stupid clipboard function, that saves stuff that I've copied? It keeps remembering all my passwords from KeePass and I have to manually clear the clipboard.
I have tried searching for an option to disable it, but haven't found one. Even the default Samsung Keyboard has nothing related to it in settings (although I'm using SwiftKey).
Apparently that's controlled by an app called ClipboardSaveService. Not sure if you're going to be able to disable that without root though. Maybe Package Disabler will help you there, if those sort of apps still work on modern devices, haven't tried them in a while.
