Hey guys,
I'm an old WM user but new to WP8. Been on an iPhone hiatus for a few years.
Happy to be back.
Picked up a Lumia 920 and enjoying the device so far.
My question is that I keep seeing the "Location" circle drop down into my status bar every 30-60 minutes. It stays there for about 3 seconds and then goes away.
Any idea what is using my location?
iOS did give a very detailed location management settings screen which showed exactly which apps had location permissions and which apps have used location recently.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
I'd suggest having a look into Settings / Background Tasks (you'll have to swipe to the side to see application settings which is where this resides). Any App being able to run in the Background is listed there. I'd check for Apps that might use location frequently in that list but I can't give you a more exact answer.
Do you have the find my phone feature enabled? I'm not sure what the polling rate it, but as the battery dies, it polls more frequently.
Hello everyone. I'm having a problem with my gps. While i'm counting my running workout with endomondo or samsung health or any program like that gps is counting wrong. For example to a known distance and to the total 16kms it counts 14kms. I'm counting also with a very good watch. The problem is that while the screen is on it counts correct. While the screen is off it lost the way and it isn't count well.
Is there any solution?
Thanks a lot

Sounds like the app is being put to sleep by android. This means once the screen turns off (and/or the phone locks) the app stops working (or gets placed into a suspended state). Once you turn the screen on and/or unlock the lockscreen the app is resumed.
To resolve this try the following:
Turn battery optimization off for the apps in question, and check to see if android puts them to sleep (and turn it off for the app if it does).
You can exclude the app from battery optimization by going to settings > apps and then look for the app and select it. From there select "optimize battery usage", select all apps (on the battery optimization page) and find your app. You need to have it toggled off for android to not optimize the battery.
To check if android is putting it to sleep go to settings > device care and select battery at the bottom. After that the battery page will be shown, press the three dots at the top right and select settings. Select "Sleeping Apps" and see if your app is listed (and if so emove it from the list)
Alternatively if you want you can disable the ability for android to put apps to sleep. Under settings > device care > battery > press the 3 dots at top right > press settings you can toggle "put unused apps to sleep" off to stop this from happening.
If you want to leave the feature enabled then you can adjust how long it will take before an app goes to sleep. Press on "Put unused apps to sleep" and select a time frame higher then what the default is.
Myself personally I turned off the "put unused apps to sleep" and have not had any issues at all.
thanks a lot buddy. I'll try all the things that you suggest and i'll return back.
Have a nice day
Popup Factory 2 allows you to setup app's and/or url's to launch in mulitple popup windows, yes more than 2, from a shortcut or as a launcher. Placing the windows where you want them.
Cool.
Does it contain adware or other nasties?
What's its battery usage when idle?

The app is only active, as far as i can tell, while you're configuring your shortcut(s). While you're configuring the shortcut(S) there's a banner ad at the bottom of the app. No idle usage that i can tell.
Forgot to mention. If you have a side panel app you can set your configuration for laucher mode, add the app to to the panel and it'll launch you're configuration from there.
Hello everyone, I put a little tutorial to maximize the battery life of our Realme GT2 Pro.
As I describe, I have my drive configured. If you want, you can inform in the thread what results your phone now shows you with this configuration.
Greetings.
1.- DEACTIVATE AUTOMATIC UPDATES.
In this way we will avoid that the mobile is constantly looking for updates and therefore consuming battery.
1.1- We go to the Play Store and in Settings / Network Preferences / Update applications automatically, we mark not update applications automatically.
1.2- Once this is done, we go to Settings. We follow the path Settings / About Device, click on 3 of Realme UI, now click on the three dots at the top right, in the window that appears click Auto update and then mark the option "Do not allow", so we disable download automatically.
2.- DEACTIVATE THE WIFI ASSISTANT.
This option allows the mobile to automatically change the network, without us having to be aware of it, but it uses the battery unnecessarily. We are going to configure it to do it manually.
We follow the route Settings / Wifi / Wi-Fi Assistant, enter and deactivate the option "Auto connect to the best Wi-Fi".
3.-DEACTIVATE THE PRINTING SERVICES.
We have these services to connect to printers active all the time and the phone will be constantly looking for printers so that we can connect.
We go to Settings and at the top of the search bar we will write print. Click on the only option that comes out, "Default Print Service", once inside we deactivate it and avoid having it in a continuous search.
4.- DEACTIVATE EXPERIENCE IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM.
We follow the route Settings / About Device / Experience improvement programs and inside we deactivate the two options.
5.- ACTIVATE “OPTIMIZED STANDBY” OPTION.
We follow the path Settings / Battery / Advanced Settings / Optimized Standby, once inside we mark the Balanced Mode option. In this way we minimize energy consumption when the phone is not in use, but without causing delays in receiving messages.
6.- ACTIVATE SMART 5G.
We follow the path Settings / Mobile Network / Advanced Settings, once inside we mark the smart 5G option. We will get it to automatically switch between 5G and 4G reducing battery consumption.
However, in places where there is no good 5G network, it is convenient not to activate it and follow the path Settings / Mobile Network / SIM 1 or 2 / Preferred Network Type and press 4G/3G/2G.
7.- APP QUICK FREEZE
We follow the path Settings / Battery / Advanced Settings / App Quick Freeze.
There we select the apps that we want to restrict their activity in the background.
With this we will restrict the background activity of the selected applications, reducing their activity will also lead to lower battery consumption.
In addition to the above configuration, I also have the following:
Dark mode, manual brightness at 70-80%, Screen Refresh Rate I take it in "High", Screen resolution in FHD +, touch sounds, screen lock sounds, capture sounds, keyboard sounds, all off, vibration off.
In Developer Options:
"Logger buffer sizes", I have it set to 1Mb.
Window animation Scale / Transition animation Scale / Animator duration Scale. All three are by default at 1x, I lowered all three to 0.5x.
Good points ,thanks .
Might also want to include setting screen refresh rate to auto Select
Great guide but I have a question, do you have a smart 5g option? Just got mine today and I'm on the latest version and there is no such toggle.
Disabeling the gaming app also makes a difference for me.
Never used game app. Just disabled ...
If you disable the Google Feed, you also reduce consumption, it will not be active in the background.

That option is no longer there, with the last update it has disappeared
I think the last update also improved battery life
Laat update did indeed update the battery life. I went from 5 to 7 hours on screen time! Very pleased with this.
Glad to hear that. Hopefully more good fixes are coming.
How are you doing with the battery life?
Spoiler: Battery SOT
There doesn't seem to be a way to turn on high performance mode outside of navigating to battery in the settings and then advanced battery settings. Does anyone know of a way to add a notification switch or even a widget on the home screen to quickly turn it on and off?
Also I have tried my best to eliminate the OS's ability to kill apps running in the background. The one I have issues with the most is PokemonGo. I will switch from one app to another and when going back to PokemonGO it will have killed it and it restarts when going back to it. Loading like I just opened the app for the first time.
Things I have done so far. Disabled battery optimization for the app in the battery settings and turned on "Allow background activity" in the app settings under app management.
I have no task killers installed and the OS is basically stock after a factory reset.
I'm rooted and on DE2118_11_C.16
Have you tried locking the PokemonGo app to prevent it from being suspended?
Also you should check setting under developer mode in APPS section: Susspend execution for cached apps.
I would lower the background process limit from 5 to 3 due to the limited amount of ram on this device and lock any app you want to continue to run if it falls into 4th place.
Also, I would tur off RAM Boost as it does not improve app selection based on my use.
I have it locked yes, still gets closed in the background at random it seems.
RAM Boost was off as well.
The Suspend execution for cashed apps can you explain a bit on how this works? Do I have to cache the app or something in addition for it to work?
I keep the VPN Hotspot, AD Guard, and Pokemon GO locked.

This will "freeze" apps that are cached (past the open app limit) and they will not take any resources. This also will cause them to stop responding like your Pokemon app.
