Is there any way to increase the maximum brightness so it's more visible in direct sunlight? The max just isn't cutting it and I work outside all day.
I remember seeing a few apps that promise to do this, but I also remember that once I tried and it worked but disabled ambient mode...
I don't remember the app name but if you search for "wear brightness" you should be able to find it...
I have been searching using search terms like that and including your suggestion, but I haven't managed to find a single app or method that will increase the watch brightness past/over it's maximum brightness.

Have you tried this one?
Display Brightness for Wear:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.wear.displaybrightness
Found in the Wear Store: http://goo.gl/v4NnQv
You're not understanding what I want. I want something that can increase the brightness PAST the maximum value of 6.
For example on the Nexus 6p there is a kernel developer named flar2 and he created a small app that will boost the maximum brightness of the phone far beyond the maximum brightness of the phone normally. This drastically helps with being in direct sunlight and I'm hoping to achieve the same on the watch.
I've understood your question correctly since OP. For me this app has both maximum and minimum above system settings, YMMV.
Have a nice day.

I'm trying to decrease the screen's brightness as much as possible.
When specifying the brightness in Profiles (apk) the minimum allowed is 7%. Still it's too much for me in certain situations.
I'd prefer to have an option to completely minimize the brightness like in old phones when disabling back lit.
Is it possible with those new AMOLEDs?
Thanks.
I don't know about any other phones, but for our atrix, use an app called superdim from the market. lowers the brightness even more so than normally allowed.
Not exactly the most comfortable way to do. The Profiles should include this feature natively.
Anyway many thanks, it did dim the screen just fine.

Look for rogerpodacter's thread on manually lowering the brightness through terminal emulator. It works great and you can lower brightness of capacitive buttons too. Thing is it if you reboot you gotta redo it but it is not hard.

Does anyone have a solution to auto brightness issue?
Even in the darkest room, the lowest light level is "medium" and not low! Its excellent setting when using phone outdoors but in dark room or at night its just too bright. Is my phone broken or is it general windows phone setting?

on my titan, the auto brightness behaviour is erratic and sometimes goes too low.
the camera is one of the issue triggers. after every return from a photo session, the screen goes to a lower brightness.
also, sometimes it happens when unlocking the phone but i don't know what triggers it. then suddenly the screen would return to its normal brightness after a few seconds, although not always.
i suppose it's a driver issue...

so you get the autobrightness to go as low as 'low' set manually? - I tried it but even after camera the lowest brightness I am getting is same as 'medium' when set manually!

no, not that low only lower.
but you are right, even in complete darkness the screen won't go to its lowest setting...
Yes same issue here.
Automatic can go a little bit lower than medium, but not much. Too bright in dim environement.
For general use, i would like to have a preset between low and medium
Since these days many people like ultra bright screens (and ultra loud sound) i am not sure HTC will try to fix this "issue".
I just hope Microsoft can add a brightness slider in the future. (Or bility to set the min auto and max auto levels)
Btw, do you know why camera mode go into max brightness ? This is a little harsh indoor.

Yes that behaviour is very strange too! I think it's present only in the Titan. Some other windows phone manage the camera brightness a little better. But then I think increased brightness while using camera sort of makes it little pleasant when using it outdoors. But indoors as you mentioned, it's a bit too harsh brightness!
I think it's the light sensor that doesn't work properly. Some places/forums mentioned about issues with various HTC driverseven after those 2 softwares updates we received in Nov-early Dec.
In daylight, the auto brightness works wonderfully for me,I never change it.
But in a fairly dark room,it's too bright and most of the time,I set it to low
I usually set it to medium... and set to low by myself by night.
I have sent a message to HTC (via theirs contact/ticket system) about the "can be improved" auto brightness, and "camera set brightness to max" issues.
Better than nothing.
Since this is a easily reproductible problem, maybe they can take a look if they receive several messages about this.
I wonder if the screen going to max brightness with camera may have something to do with the "HTC Camera modes" addon ? (who knows..)
But i don't see how to remove it. I even can't find it on the marketplace (under HTC section).
I have same issue, I get blinded when I check the time on my phone at night
It was there even before camera modes update was applied by HTC. So unlikely
Sent from my TITAN X310e using Board Express
Obviously, the brightness go to max too when using skype with video.
Hope they will notice and fix it.
Trying to talk to HTC customer service is especially unhelpful here in france.
They have absolutely no knowledge of theirs WP7 products
(whatever the problem encountered)
Now that we have unlocked roms, any way to tweak the auto brightness ?

I've tried all 4 ROMs and they have the same behaviour as stock ROM at the moment. But it might be useful looking into the registry threshold values. I know there is some sort of home brew app that lets us set the volume increase in 10s, 20s, 30s or 50s. So a regedit might be somewhere, will dig around myself since you've reminded me again
Anyone here using this app for Auto Brightness on AOSP/AOKP
If so, can we share settings?

Just installed after read your post. First impression: Awesome!!
This app may be the perfect addition to AOPK/CM9 Roms because it's a lot more intelligent than the stock auto brightness settings which are present at those custom roms.
Currently i'm looking after the right settings. What's your current status?
Did you meanwhile find any nice to know settings?
Meanwhile i read the whole instructions and found out my perfect settings.
1) There are several modes of auto brightness
I've chosen the dynamic mode because it adjusts the brightness level immediately when the environment light takes a significant change.
2) If Lux doesn't find your perfect brightness level you can easily go to the dashboard and adjust the brightness by moving the brightness slider to your desired brightness level. After you found your wished brightness level for the current environment you can push the "link" button to save the current brightness level to the environment light.
I did not do any more changes yet as i presume that those setting will be enough to get the perfect brightness settings
What's your experience?
Reinstalled, gunna try it again!
my test settings ;-)

Hello,
I'm one of those first users who has received GS3 in the first days of June and a user of the FoxHound Rom which is very good since doing some undervolting, modifying the kernel and changing some other setting like free ram modem changing I achieved a very very long battery life (at least +50% of battery life) and a butter like transition as screen effects.
The only problem for me, which would be with every GS3, it's the maximum brightness. It's too low. In the FoxHound mod there's the famous STweak which theoretically has a setting to improbe the maximum brightness from 28 (default) to 35... but I don't think that it works.
Do you know some other root app or some kind of mod which allow a really improvement of maximum brightness? Cuz as default, this display is too dark under the sun, which is one of the the two major defects of this smartphone (the other one is the materials... I'm ok with the chassis made of PC but the backcover made of PC too, no. I'd have rather chose some aluminum alloy or mg alloy with MAO treatment.)
Thanks in advance guys.
Auto brightness is profoundly terrible on the S3.

No guys, wait a moment.
If I'm not wrong, your talking about apps which modify AUTObrightness. But as for that I've already solved just with STweaks which allows to modify autobrightness setting. My concern is for MAXIMUM brightness..Maximum brightness is not modified by autobrightness settings.
As for me lux doesn't change the maximum level.

I`am only interested in the minimum autobrightness values. And this apps solves it for me.
As for minimum value I agree but this doesn't solve at all what I asked in the first post

Uhm ... that's bad ... I mean, what I need is exactely the FoxHound (graphic aosp like, all samsuns built-in apps, downclock and downvolt option on both CPU and GPU, STweaks, kernel like siyah) just with better maximum brightness ... so changing to an aosp rom, I'd prefer to avoid it.
I'm giving a shot to the tone tweak but I don't see any remarkable improvement at the moment...

Where are those modifications to Auto brightness? I don't see anywhere in STweaks where they can be made.
"min_bl" in brightness curve setting.. if you increase it the screen will remain at lower brightness level at higher environment brightness.. practically you change how it reacts to environmental brightness. As for me, it works.
But here you cannot decrease the minimum brightness level.
Any hint?
I'm rooted and have EXKM and flar2's High Brightness Mode app. How can I make Tasker switch on High Brightness Mode when the brightness slider gets to 100% (and switch it off when the slider dips below 100%)?
Having difficulty finding any brightness level stuff in Tasker.
Thanks!!

You don't need to use Tasker for that. Once the brightness slider gets to "near" 100%, the native High Brightness Mode will automatically kick in on this phone. If you shine a flashlight or go into the bright sun you will see the brightness slider go up to near 100% and you will see that the native High Brightness Mode is automatically enabled at this point. To verify, you can turn your slider up to 100% and then toggle on the QS HBM tile from the High Brightness Mode app and you will see that there will be no change in screen brightness.
The native High Brightness Mode will also turn off when slider/brightness dips below 100% or so. The High Brightness Mode toggle from the HBM app is really only useful when you want to turn HBM on when the slider/brightness is below 100% or so.
What you described does not represent the functionality I'm experiencing.
There's a pretty significant jump in brightness when HBM is toggled on when the slider is already maxed.
Also, it's a question about how to program this in Tasker, more than a discussion of whether you would personally find it useful.
Yes, I understand the question was about how to program it with Tasker. My experience was right after he 1st updated the app to support the Pixel 6 series (version 5.03). And my response was based on this experience, which in turn if your phone behaved the same as mine there would be no need to use Tasker.
Obviously your phone is behaving different than from my previous experience. Maybe he changed some things since then since the latest version is now 5.05.
Anyway, I'm not sure of the exact details, but I believe you want to use the %BRIGHT ~ 100 variable. But beyond that I haven't really looked into it.

I see. It's just not clear how I use that variable, what the tilde means, when/where I input that, whether I can use < for th other part of th profile (brightness being less than 100%), and so many other questions.
The intro page when you first open tasker makes it seem simple: you give a context, a start action, and an end action. But th program isn't actually like that at all, and further it doesn't seem to list variables that people are saying are built-in (e.g. %BRIGHT).
