My phone's taking up this habit of rebooting (or so) randomly and automatically. It doesn't show any error or message and just reboots about twice a day... How did i know... My music widget did not display the last song paused and the up-time duration in the battery status was only a couple of hours (when infact I haven't shut it down)
Does anyone face this problem? Two things that could have made things go bad:
1. Using Verbatim Class 4 8gb MicroSDHC (heard problems with 8gb cards)
2. I rooted my phone partially (z4root did not work, superoneclick worked till halfway but I was able to access the root. Is there anything called incomplete rooting ). And after deleting the useless pre-installed apps... unrooted (again partially ) so that I can visit the Service Centre if things go worse.
Will the phone face problems if it reboots every once in a while. I don't mind it as long as it does not give me errors
Thanks,
Have you tried another sd?
AFAIK and with what i been seing arround here, that can be a card fault.
Incompatibilitys or something like that. It whouldn't be the first device like that.
Second change will be a hardware failure, wich is worst...
In my viewing, everything that is not normal, it's not good for your device.
So you should try to find a solution for it.
Cheers
my bad... Provided wrong info in the last post.
My system uptime is 48hrs which means my phone hasn't rebooted. But my status since last unplugged is 3 hrs but I last charged my phone more than 12hrs ago and I haven't plugged it to a computer as well. This number haas changed twice today...
I am thoroughly confused... Don't think there is a problem with my sd card as the phone runs perfect... All the games and music stored in the card play without problems... Guess I'll have to investigate further.
If anyone has any suggestion do let me know
I had this problem, too. And yes, It's SD-card related.
The uptime counter doesn't reset every time, but the last unplugged time does, as you noticed.
I flashed with the OC kernel, and surprisily, my phone is now fully stable. I don't know if the kernel did really the trick, but you could maybe give a try...

Can you please elaborate. Flashed the OC kernel... with what?
Did you reinstall the original firmware? Thanks!
I used the custom recovery and I selected the "Flash from zip file" option, it was very simple once you get the custom recovery working !
It doesn't erase your data, and it doesn't replace the original firmware, it's only a patch.
Do I need to install the custom recovery or is it pre-installed?
I don't think it is pre-installed. The key combination is not working. The phone starts up as usual.
And do we need to be rooted to carry this out. I'll try a soft reset meanwhile....
EDIT:
I got it. Need to use this "recovery-RA-GNM-thunderg-1.1.0.img" file to enable the custom recovery. If I put this file in the root of the sd card, will the key combination work? And what about the flash file? I'm sure it'll ask for the flash file when i select the option flash from sdcard.
I've experienced similar behavior, mostly using 3D apps. Google's Nav will usually result in a freeze/reboot. Quadrant has done it many times. When I was looking in logcat and bugreport it was showing messages like:
W/SharedBufferStack(223): waitForCondition(LockCondition) timed out (identity=223, status=0). CPU may be pegged. trying again.
I can't be positive if the SD card is the culprit (I haven't had a chance to replace the stock card yet), or if it's a software or hardware problem. I've only rooted and modified build.prop to enable jit and stagefright...and that's it.
edit:
Phone just crash when I opened the new updated google maps. Attached the logcat if anyone can glean some useful info from it.
Mine is definitely SD card related.... Flashed the original firmware but did not help. The SD card kept unmounting and remounting (no rebooting though).
Finally went back to the bundled sd card and no problem so far... But my other 8gb card is working perfectly in other phones and the pc as well (very good transfer speed and all) Even when I had it in my phone it was snappy.
But I read that a new firmware has been released. hopefully that will sort the issue... Fingers crossed.

There is a new version of the firmware, V10E.
You need to try that one.
I have the same phone and have no problems running a PNY 8 gig. card. I would try to re-rom your device but, be sure to back everything up first. If problem still persists try a differant sd card. ( class 3 or higher) I am currently running Cyanogen 2.3.3 with kernal update 2.6.32.9. OC to 806mhz. Semms to be running just fine. I hope that helps out.

Hi, I also facing the sd card problem. Can I update to v10e because my phone is v10a and rooted?
Before you guys upgrade, try this ....
Copy out all the data from your SD card, format your SD from the device, then copy the data back.
In addition, if you have shifted any Application data using the Move to SD card feature, suggest you move it back.
I used to have the reboot once a day, now I don't have it anymore ...
Formatting didn't work for me. Factory reset worked for a couple of weeks, but still got SD card unmounts with no apps moved to SD. The only thing that worked was physically removing the SD.
friend i got Phone on this saturday till then I was having problem of random reboot .like every time i play with my phone . i am using class 2 trascend 8gb made in taiwan micro sd card (but the problem of unmounting never occured to me).Main problem was of the random reboot .Then i flashed my phone with Unofficial port of CyanogenMod 7link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946354 it worked so greatly and now i am running phone for more then 3 hours without any problem(hope this time will increase).
PS :This mod doesn't have market application of android any one who can provide market.apk or vending.apk beacuse its convinient to download from there
A friend told me he would sell me his galaxy tab and that he had recently done a factory reset (not from system recovery but within the OS) and it had booted up once since then. When we tried to power it on the battery was dead and so we charged it a little. It then kept getting stuck on the "verizon wireless" screen and would not load. This was with an external sd card inserted.
I told him I'd buy it if I could figure out how to fix it and he took out the sd card because he wasn't sure if he had "left anything on it". So I went home without a sd card and did some research. Figured out how to get into system recovery and tried to wipe it. I ended up with this screen below.
I asked a friend who has had android devices and he directed me to the restore directions using Heimdall.
Spent hours getting that to work, but I'm still getting the same errors and no loading. What do I need to do to have a tablet that works like a factory device. And yes, I've already spent hours searching and googling but I don't want to do anything to further screw it up.
Is it as simple as the external sd card that was removed?
This the replacement streak 5 that Rogers gave me after my first one died. It came with ROM version 1.6 but would not auto update to 2.2. Market also gave me the "out of space" message. It doesn't seem to matter which way i try to load apps (downloading/install from other sources or from computer) i get the same message. If i try 2nd time sometimes they will say they are loaded but app will force close when loading.
I managed to install Steves Streakdroid Gingerbread 2.4.4 (which is wonderful, and yes i did donate) but didn't make any difference to my app installation/update problems.
I've done what i thought was a thorough search for others with this problem but have come up with only Market or cache issues. As i mentioned, this is a fresh install + factory reset and wipe.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
How much space does your device actually show as having available?
Sent from my Dell Streak
Internal memory is showing over 60 MB
External 14 GB
So apparently lots of room on both
Thanks for the reply, hope the info helps
I have managed to load a couple of apps after a few attempts. The apps that did install and load normally installed into the external SD card and the ones that would show installed but not load didn't show up on the external SD card.
On Gingerbread where are the apps normally loaded and can this be easily changed?
I'm suprised that nobody was able to help me with this one but I managed to fix it anyway - it was the internal SD card. I suppose it was faulty or corrupted some how, so I changed it out with a new 4GB SDHD card and all is well. I ended up removing the piece of plastic that covers the internal card rather then going the complete dissassembly route.

It takes just a few minutes to cut away the plastic covering the inner SD Card. I did this to two Streaks. More info here and here.
Most of the info on changing out the internal SD card I got from this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220021
I was planning on going the disassembly route but I didn't have the special screw driver (torq?) So just removed the small section of plastic covering covering the internal sd card. It took only 20 mins or so. A normal reboot almost worked but the Streak rebooted itself a couple of times so I did the factory reset and that fixed everything. I'm using DJ Steves Streakdroid 2.4.4
i rooted my phone just last night and then this is what happened to all the applications that i installed in my sd card. i dunno if theres something i did wrong or if there is something i failed to do. this is my first time rooting my phone, i have tried rerooting it and then ive also tried unrooting and then rooting it once more. nothing worked. i dunno what happened and i dunno what else to do. help me please.
which method used for rooting . which fw you have
hehe
well i dunno. LOL. all i know is i used the ODIN program to root my phone.
plus this is what happened to all my applications
Looks like your sd card ain't mounted.
Sent from my GT-I9100
by mounted do you mean its in the phone? bec ive tried removing it and putting it back in but it didnt work
go to storage in settings select mount sd card . And find what is Android version, basband, kernal version , build type in setting > about
Is your device still plugged in your computer? If so, Unplug it
'The Ghost App', they are right..mount your SD Card.
Since no one else has mentioned it, to me it seems likely you flashed a kernel which has three asterisks next to it in the CF-root thread.
So I've got a strange problem with my phone. Sometimes after I snap a picture the phone freezes and reboots and the pic I took is corrupt (saving to phone storage). More interesting is that my microSD somehow decided it was going to corrupt and be unusable as well. I noticed this after trying to take pix and they would all be corrupted when saving to SD.
Anyone ever seen this before? Going to try a factory reset today and see if that solves any problems.
Running stock rooted ROM.
More info about your device like is it
Unlocked?
Custom recovery?
Rooted?
S-OFF?
ROM if at all?
Was the sdcard you inserted new or did you use your device to format it.did you select the option to save to the external sdcard .
I think after doing a factory reset you should format the sdcard with the device and than use "SD fixer" from the play store if rooted and give it a go again.this is all with no info about your device specifics
Stock rooted ROM. Clockwork Mod. Not unlocked.
The SD card came out of my Note 3 which I had been using fine for about a year and it never had a problem. In fact it seemed to work fine in the M8 for a couple of weeks. Card can be read from but not written too either by the phone nor a computer. It will no longer format either. I've tried formatting in computer and in phone as well, no dice.
After that all started happening I switched my camera back to saving yo internal memory. That's when my phone would start locking up and rebooting randomly when I would take a pic. Doesn't happen all of the time just randomly. When it does happen and the phone comes back up the pic shows up in the gallery as corrupt.
Just did a factory reset last night and bought a new card. So far so good.
Nice to know all is good now
Will report back if problem reoccurs and especially if the new SD card somehow gets corrupted beyond repair again.
