Kernel Auditor settings for lag improvement - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S7 Guides, News, & Discussio

Since lag was quite bad upon rooting (at least it was for me, and I even did a full wipe and reset prior), the first thing I did was download Kernel Auditor and start tinkering with it in an attempt to reduce the lag and try to smooth things out. So far, my current settings are working quite well. It runs smooth and the lagginess is virtually nonexistent. It's not 100% perfect, but its damn close.
So here's a couple screens of my current settings, which are being set on boot with no issues. If I figure out a way to export profiles, I'll post that as well.
Please feel free to add onto, improve, elaborate, and/or talk **** (constructively). If you've found something else that has helped, let me know!
As always, I am not responsible if these setting, individually, together, or in any combination cause your phone to give you AIDS, explode, or cause any other undesired effect, up to and including instant super-death.

Just mirrored these setting and will follow up with any negatives. One concern is battery life with the CPU minimum set that high. How is your battery life?
I'm running Stock PF2 with root. Really wanted to run the unlocked rom and liked the peppiness of it, but use wifi calling through sprint at work a lot.

Have u found any further improvements to better battery life?.

Mine was horrible.went back to stock until more stable and better battery life.

Flash the 930U firmware. I was in the same boat as you. But I still have most of things I used while rooting: ad blocker; wifi tether; skip track with volume keys. The only that I miss is the youtube adaway, but I found an app on xda that mutes the ads and presses skip for you automatically. My battery life increased greatly and the phone was super smooth when I did this.

I'd really love to but need sprint wifi calling working as I work in a never several days a week with no cell service at all.

Just tried your settings
Hey, just tried all your settings. It helped a lot! However, for the low memory killer, every time I try to change some of the settings like "foreground applications" etc, it reverts back to the original. any tips?

Confirmed temporary solution to game freezing and browser/system lag. Video Added!

Hey guys. I believe that the os21 update has a bad memory leak/background processing management(besides a kernal issue). When playing heavy 3d games like Nova 3 or Sonic, the framerates are really slow or stutter a lot until the games force-close. Well, for the past 2 days, I have not had this issue, both Nova 3 and Sonic play with no stuttering at all, and I have not experienced any more game crashes. My browser also seems much smoother. Please try the two fix options listed below, while noting that the 2nd option seems to work best with mass Efeect, and less "strict" on runnig processes than the first option:
Fix #1- What I did was push the soft reset button on the Prime (using a small paperclip), then waited for the Prime to reboot. Once it rebooted, DO NOT let the Prime load up anything, just immediately go into settings, developer options, select the kill all activities option, then for background processes, select "at most 1 process only" Delete all of your running task managers/task widgets an that's it. Now all of my games run, no crashes, and the framerates for Nova 3 and Sonic is MUCH better.
Fix# 2 - For those still having issues with Mass Effect, this alternate setting will definitely fix the problem. After soft rebooting, go into development settings, and then for background processes, select "at most 1 process only" and DO NOT select kill all processes after leaving them. This setting has been confirmed to fix the Mass Effect issue, as well as all other games while still keeping the Prime running a lot smoother.
Please try using the exact instructions that I have posted, and let me know if this works for you guys. If so, then it proves that the os21 has a memory management issue which is causing all the current issues we are having.
Also, I would like to share this post from Jaycustom, whom has also been using this method for a few days now and enjoying it more than myself lol. He ran a CPU test to test the differences before and after my fix. See his results below:
Default settings said I had about 19 user/ 29 system processes running.
Dev settings gave me 14 user/ 11 system processes running.
Default settings for system memory 600+mb used/300+ free
Dev settings for system memory 300+ used/600+ free
The memory usage was pretty much exactly reversed! So I assume this is where most, but not all, of the performance boost comes from. CPU usage was also lower, not by much though.
See the video that I made (link below)showing me using the default browser, which is now really fast and stable using this method. I also ran Mass Effect 3 and Nova 3 to show that I have no issues playing these games anymore. I used a Samsung Galaxy tab to record, so please re-frame from laughing at the quality of the vid lol! If you guys would like me to try more games/apps, please let me know.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iperCmEH4t4&feature=youtu.be
Thanks guys
Nova 3 is still freezing and crashing, frame rate is still same.... I think tehere is no solution untill FailLoft will update the app for tegra 3.

Sorry to hear that it didnt work for you, but it seems to have resolved the issue for me entirely. I am not exeriencing any more gam crashes or white flashing screens. Are you sure that you followed the stes listed? Waiting for others to rely, but either my Prime just decided to play all my games correctly, or this is "fix" is working for me.
This is not an acceptable fix, it is only a workaround.

Yes I agree 100%, but it works. At least we can play some of our games/browse without issue until the fix comes out. Did you try it, and did it work for you?

I'll have to try this out tonight. To clarify, when you say "do not let it load up anything", do you just mean go into the settings as soon as possible and kill things? It must start running services as soon as it boots, no? I guess this just minimizes the "damage"?
Hi, I've just tried this and it doesn't seem to have had much of an effect I'm afraid.
In the last 10 mins I've still had two spontaneous browser shutdowns, plus crappy streaming video playback from sites such as bbc iplayer.
The pages seem to load a little faster and scrolling may be a touch smoother but thats about it the best I can say.
This solution works well for me. I have been doing this for some time, except I have limited the processes to three. Limiting it to one seems to improve it even better. Widgets seem also to be a drain on the resources and limiting those works well for me. Much thanks for the post.
You might also try this solution from here post #118 :

It seems to have worked for me, I've only had one reboot since. It's at least worth a try. Good luck.

yes exactly.. this is the way it worked for me. Just immediately go into setting, and select the options that i listed. This will only allow the essential programs to run. Please let me know if this works for you. Also, switch the prime to performance for graphic heavy games. Still testing this, but so far I have not have any crashes since applying.

Thanks for confirm this. Yes, my Prime is no longer lagging when browsing or crashing during gameplay..the difference is honestly night and day. Just confirms for me that .21 is not handling the background processes, or closing them correctly.

you shouldn't have to factory reset, that would suck
Can you try the soft reset option again? Once it's done, update the setting as listed and try the Prime on performance mode. If that doesn't help, then you may have a bad app which is hogging on your resources and causing the slowdown/crashes.
This procedure also seems to improve on the strength of the Wi-Fi signal. At least on mine it does.

Maybe it's just because the Prime is loading pages a lot faster because there aren't so many things running in the background now. it would be cool though if this also fixed wifi, maybe someone should do a speed test for before and after the fix?
I just tried the default browser again. It does not lag/stutter when scrolling through the pages anywhere near like it used to. it's not as smooth as opera mini, but it's a LOT better than before. Still no game crashes at all since doing this. I can post vids for anyone who would like to see proof after work.

I was gonna do one anyway, just to start from scratch with a blank slate and get it set up how I want it!
After resetting, and before any apps are downloaded the browser is working much much better once the settings you recommend are applied. Loading and scrolling is faster and there have been no force closes or video hangups.
Cheers, I look forward to this .28 update but thats helped me out a lot in the meantime!

Great to hear! yes, my Prime seems much quicker with touch inputs, scrolling, gaming and web browsing. Must of been a bad memory issue along with the kernel for .21.
just did this ans seems to work very well. i was getting around 12-15mbs and now im getting 32mbs in the garage with only 1 bar. im very happy with that. thanks for sharing.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: I flashed CM10.1 but my GPS won't lock. Is there a solution?
A: Absolutely!
(Optional) Use TitaniumBackup to backup your apps+data
Use Recovery to Backup your current state (System, Data, Boot)
Flash a Sense ROM of any kind (I use MeanBean)
(Don't forget to do your wipes, of course)
*Once booted into a Sense ROM*
Make sure your GPS is turned ON and open up Google Maps
Wait for your GPS to lock
Reboot into Recovery and Restore your Backup
(Don't forget to do your wipes, of course)
*Once booted back onto your CM10.1*
Make sure GPS is turned ON and open up Google Maps
Your GPS should now lock.
Q: I noticed screen tearing (glitch-like symptoms) on my CM10.1. Is there a solution?
A: Absolutely!
Go into Developer Options
Scroll down to "Disable HW Overlays"
Check the box to disable
Screen tearing is now gone.
NOTE! You will need to do this on each reboot!
Q: Developer Options don't exist on my CM10.1. Is it hidden?
A: Kind of.
Go into About
Scroll all the way down and tap the build 7 times
You will notice a message saying Developer Options was unlocked.
Q: How do I get the Play Store on my CM10X?
A: You'll need to download a compatible GApps (Google Apps
You can find the latest GApps in this thread
Q: Why isn't my WiFi connecting?
A: That issue is usually caused by your router. Simply reset or unplug your router for 15 seconds and try again.
Q: I installed an AOSP kernel and my phone has been rebooting. Why is that?
A: The kernel may not be supported with your current ROM.
Some kernels have a voltage script provided by the builder. Ask the developer if there is one available.
You can also download Kernel Tuner from the Play Store to change voltage.
Q: Voltage? Kernel Tuner? What now...?
A: Within' Kernel Tuner you will want to go into Voltage and use the "All +12.5 mV" which will up the Voltage in all areas. I found that having 192MHz at 900mV will make CM10.1 plenty stable while not affecting battery life significantly. ROM and Kernel may very. Do some Trial and Error to see what is suitable for you
Q: My internal storage says I have less than I really should. Did I ruin my internal SD Card?
A: No. Don't panic.
All you need to do is Wipe your Internal Storage.
Backup your files if you don't want to lose them, of course.
Problem should be solved.
Issue usually occurs when flashing from Sense to AOSP or flashing numerous ROM's in a short period of time.
Q: Where can I find the latest Deck Builds?
A: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2110920
You can also check the iRC channel (info in the thread above)
Also, search Google for "CM10 EVO LTE irc" and click the first link
Q: Should I flash Nightly Builds or Deck's Builds?
A: Nightly Builds are official CM builds which don't include all of Deck's maintenance, tweaks, etc... You'll find that Deck's Builds just happen to be more stable.
I feel like this was a waste of time. Lol.

ive done clean and dirty installs to find a solution but still get the same result and i've never use another kernel with the ROM. The best battery life i've experience with my phone was with stock rom when i used to get 24hrs on one charge .i'm seriously thinking about going back to stock but i love CM10.1

That is pretty weird. I had that problem on the EVO 3D before. Were you or are you using any custom kernel, kernel tuner, or scripts at all?
I know, too, that the battery does seem to drain a bit fast at first but then it gets more subtle. MeanBean has been draining me worse than CM10.1 right now.

MeanBean has never treated me well on battery life no matter what I do. Not on my replacement anyway. On my other LTEvo it was working great. But... CM10.1's battery life shouldn't be that bad. Could always use Kernel Tuner to manage the CPU and Gov. a bit. Trial and error until you find a satisfied combination. I generally use Ondemand as opposed the interactive. I noticed Ondemand gave me better battery life. Haven't done much with the CPU speeds in a while so I'm not going to be too much help there... I also use System Panel to monitor apps, system, memory, and use its built-in task killer.

How to disable shutter sound?
In older versions of CM there used to be an option in system settings to disable the shutter sound in the camera app. I can't seem to find any options either in the camera settings or in the system settings for this in CM10.1. Anyone know if this is there or not? Or is it coming in a future version?

Thanks for putting this post together. I have always used Sense but have been wanting to try a CM10.1 ROM. This information is very helpful.
A question that I have is what bugs or issues are currently associated with CM10.1? Most of the CM10.1 ROMs under Bug List say "Any bugs currently in latest CM10.1." Is there a centralized place that lists all of the issues? Thanks.

The only thing I noticed going wrong was my background will occasionally disappear (go black). Sometimes it will pulsate or strobe. Only happens when I sleep the phone while in Messages, and wake the phone. After unlocking, the background will either be black, be black for a while and all of the sudden pop my background image back up, or just act normal. I have no customizations or anything so I'm not sure why this occurs. Otherwise, the Vertical orientation option for the App Drawer is still messy as it always has been. That's all I've noticed but I haven't tested the music player yet .

Power Shutter? If so, that's in the Camera app settings. Click the bottom-right screen-button and choose the bottom-center settings screen-button. I also have apps that'll randomly open when I wake the phone but I figured that was just because of the phone being in my pocket, turning on, and going to the app. It will open to the clock.

Actually, not referring to Power-Shutter. I'm referring to the actual sound that is made when you take a photo. It's a bit jarring/annoying to have it "dleep!" when I take photos. Back in CM7 I remember that we could turn that sound off.

And as you'll find stated numerous times: the latest touchpanel firmware isn't yet supported with most, if not all, AOSP ROM's. S-OFF, which will make you downgrade, and you'll be able to use your AOSP ROM's. And then you can update to the latest firmware minus the tp update.

call lag (audio/answer) looking for rom advice or workaround recommendations

hi, sure many of you know the X-U has (or for some of us certainly has) a problem with "call lag". this is in two parts:
1) cannot answer calls quickly because sometimes cannot reach the slider, i think if phone was in deep sleep when call comes in?
2) after answering a call, you cannot hear the other person for some period of time after answering, around 5-10 seconds approx.
i have a warranty replacment XperiaU and i'm trying to decide between the newest official based roms (b.1.100? debloated etc., which i'm hoping Sony has fixed some of this (?)) and the newer, apparently fairly bug free CM10 builds here. obviously the latter means unlocking BL which i'm willing to do IF it offers any benefit (to this issue, not really bothered about other benefits, mainly trying to use it as a phone!)
not sure if this is a resource management issue as the first reports for e.g.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2484559
say that it had no lag, but later reports clearly say it does.
the video i saw on that thread made the phone look noticely faster than i'm used to on b.1.54
if there's some app or tweak to improve this that would be equally good.
any thoughts/advice much appreciated.
just a note this problem still present in CM11 beta builds i'm using (from macaw.pl)
changd to SmartAssv2 governor, usually about 70MB RAM showing free. not using any RAM management app other than greenify. phone actually runs pretty well otherwise on kitkat.
going to try ExDialer (not free? :/) and that RAM manager that i keep seeing recommended.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.memory.manager
see some recommendations for this also, not sure specifically what in there is helping?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cleanmaster.mguard
Some say to delete call logs, anyone found that helps? anyone tried different governors etc.?

quick update, haven't solved this it's still a major problem with this phone, but i realised you can use the power button to wake it and then answer the call! sort of a workaround, but inelegant.

[Q] Experiencing very specific force closes.... possible causes/solutions? Any ideas?

I have been experiencing a series of force closes. I am posting this to see if anyone else has experienced this, and whether anyone can suggest a fix. I'm pretty sure it was something I did, but I'm not sure what. I'm hoping that this can maybe narrow it down.
Device: SM-N900P
Firmware: OC5, stock, rooted, with several tweaks and modifications(detailed below).
The problem: I am getting several force closes. They only occur when I am trying to open certain settings. So, they aren't just popping up at random. They are slightly troubling, but not really problematic. Which is to say, aside from the actual force closes themselves, I don't really seem to be experiencing any major problems. Here are the FC's I am experiencing:
-Menu> Settings> General> Battery: This one results in a "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped" dialog box, and an immediate return to my home screen. So, I can't check out my battery usage. I'm not seeing any crazy battery drain. By opening Root Explorer and navigating to data> system> batterystats.bin, and deleting batterystats.bin, the problem is kind of fixed- I can open battery from the settings menu after that. But there is only battery level and state displayed, no usage information(just a message saying it is not available).
-Menu> Settings> General> Developer options> Process Stats: Results in the same dialog box, and the background turns black if I don't press "OK". I'm not even sure what this does, but after my Battery started force closing, I started checking the rest of the settings out.
-Menu> Settings> Connections> Data usage: Dialog box, immediate return to home screen.
The probable cause: hard to say, I've done a few things to it. Like I said, I was hoping that someone would be able to figure out what I've done from the following information about what I have done so far. So, here goes.
I was on NK4, running Priest Punch ROM. I reverted to stock and took the OTA about a week or so ago. I immediately rooted and installed TWRP using the method in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-sprint/general/how-to-root-note-3-lollipop-t3089382 .
After rooting, I didn't see a whole lot of OC5 development, so I started poking around to see what kinds of mods I could use. First thing I wanted to do was remove bloat. I started off using Root Explorer, then I happened upon this thread featuring a bloatware removal tool for the T-Mobile variant: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-tmobile/development/tool-utility-sgn3-sm-n900x-bloat-t2813036 . It worked. I removed a bunch of apps, but nothing I wasn't sure I could safely remove(I had to check Google a few times). I did not notice any problems at this time.
Then I installed this mod to pump sound out of both speakers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-sprint/development/mod-sm-n900p-surround-sound-t2966042 . I did not notice any problems at this time.
Next, I decided I wanted more fonts, so uninstalled the preloaded fonts and pushed the apk from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2752379 . Again, no problems.
I decided that a working hotspot would be nice, so I used the method in this thread to get one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-sprint/general/lollipop-hotspot-root-flashing-t3048163 . I tested it and it worked. No problems.
I really wanted to silence my shutter sound, and I happened upon this Galaxy S4 thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261789 . It worked, and there were no issues. This was my first exposure to csc codes. I found a similar thread for the s6( http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/general/quick-guide-enabling-hidden-features-t3087506 ), and followed the instructions. I was able to enable the camera during calls and enable call recording. No problems here. I tried a keyboard mod from the same thread, which had no effect at all(good or bad), so I reverted the code for that one back.
This is when I think I started to go off the rails a bit. I saw a thread for the Polish variant of the Note 3, N9005. http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...camera-mod-note-3-n9005-lollipop-5-0-t3067827 -it had a neat sounding mod designed to improve camera quality, remove recording time and snapshot restrictions, and make 60fps HD the default camcorder mode. It took a little trial and error to get it installed, but I was making backups of files I was messing with, and was able to quickly and easily reverse any missteps. Again, the mod works fine, and I have noticed no issues. So, I started looking at the dev's other work. Which led me to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/themes-apps/secsettings-mod-17-swipe-charging-t3046032 . I wanted some different unlock effects, and I wasn't really finding them, so I tried his mod out. It was a 3 step process: replace a SecSettings app, copy paste some .ogg files, and finally, copy paste a SustemUI .apk. The first two steps went fine, but the third resulted in a persisitent, repetitive dialog box. I forget what this dialog box said, but it popped up almost as soon as I could press "OK", and I had to restore the backup of SystemUI to make it usable again. Oddly enough, about half of the new unlock animations still worked fine, and I wasn't seeing any problems after that, so I left everything else there. I liked the unlock animations, and they didn't seem to be causing any problems after I restored the original systemUi .apk.
Let's see, what else might be relevant? I was using the built-in task killer quite a bit. I'm also using SetCPU. I have 2 profiles: Screen on, 1728 MHz max, 300 MHz min, governor ondemand. And Screen off, 1036 MHz max, 300 MHz min, governor interactive. And I have installed the Material Power Menu from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-materialpowermenu-reveal-animations-t3059169 .
I started to notice the battery FC last bight. So, I wiped the battery stats as outlined above. Noticed it again today, wiped stats again, and kept checking it. After about an hour, it was force closing again. That's when I started poking around and found the others.
I dunno if anything can be done about this, or if anyone might know what's wrong. And, like I said, Aside from these FC's I'm not experiencing any real problems. I'm a little worried that they may get worse, or turn into something more serious, but I can always restore a backup if that happens. But if there is some kind of fix for these issues, I would use it. Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read this wall of text, and tale of irresponsible phonery.
These are all settings that monitor usage.... should that tell me anything? I have tried wiping cache and dalvik, but that only seems to fix battery usage and data usage very temporarily(like, for a minute or less). And it doesn't seem to have effect on Process Stats.
My thoughts:
Seeing as you have flashed a lot of mods, it could be anything. If it were me, I'd start the rom from scratch. Then for the first step, instead of removing apps, I'd freeze them with titanium backup and give that a day or two to check the stability.
If that works, I'd continue with the mods one by one, giving a day or so for stability checks.
If you'd rather not do all that, you could use a logcat to find the origin of the problems.

I'd probably try the logcat first. One, because I hate doing stuff over, and two, Ive neber done it before and it should be a learning experience. Is it complicated? I'm assuming there is a thread here on xda about it...

It's fairly straight forward. I did one to see why an app wasn't loading, didn't need instructions. But that was a fairly simple check, yours sounds more complicated. I'd do a bit of reading on it.

Will do. Thanks for your help!
Okay well I decided to re flash OC5 and start from scratch.
I took it back to stock and re rooted. Am now debloating....no isssues yet.
I have flashed everything except the Polish camera mod and the wallpapers. Having zero issues of any kind. I know it can take difficulties some time to manifest themselves, but I'm betting it is either the lock screen animations or the camera mod. Leaning towards the lock screen animations because it involves messing with system.ui...
Okay, made a new backup and flashed the camera mod. No issues. After every mod, I have been going back and checking for issues. This is all stil pretty new, but if everything is still fine after a couple of days, well, I will be convinced that it was the lock rings. Not surprising obviously that flashing stuff meant for foreign variants can wreck your sh*t, lol.

Huge list of disabled apps! 180+!!!

There is an issue with the latest list so don't copy it completely. I got a bootloop after restarting my phone today and I had to factory reset... this is as of 10/8/16 at 12:50pm. The list from the 5th of October on back should be fine. I'm currently trying to sort out the issue.
................................
Here is a list of apps and services which can be disabled on the Note 7 while still maintaining stability; Data, Calling, Texting, MMS, Wi-Fi, Tethering, Bluetooth, GPS, Sync, Camera, EQ, HD Calling, Always On and all the S-Pen features work, but most other things are turned off like Fingerprint, Iris, NFC, Edge Panel, Pay Services, etc... This list isn't meant to be copied exactly by everyone because we all use our devices differently but you can pick and choose what you want to get the optimal performance from your device.
As of 10/6/16 I have 180+ apps and services disabled and today I got over 8 hours of SOT with 11% battery left (over 9 hours projected of SOT based on the days' usage). I didn't use any power saving modes and kept my brightness at a reasonable level so using the device was easy and not annoying due to the brightness being so low. I had location and sync enabled and wasn't doing any unnatural things trying to squeeze out as much battery life as I could. This was real world usage with all the necessary features and background processes running so using the device felt natural and functional. I say this so people don't think I fudged these numbers by doing things like letting my phone sit with the screen on while at the lowest brightness and not using it, or that I was using some power saving modes to squeeze out as much life as possible. My phone ran at full power all day. I've never even toggled power saving mode on my phone before.
Due to XDA's limit on the amount of image uploads I'm going to create two post with the complete list of disabled apps and link them here in the OP.
I'm using EZ Package Disabler (Samsung) from the play store to disable these apps and services. I bought that one because it had the highest rating.
Below here are some updates I posted during the process of figuring out what to disable. The post with the latest date is always going to have the most current and relevant information.

Why do you bother to own this phone when you disable most of what makes this phone so great? It has a tonne of RAM, tonne of storage, not sure what you are trying to achieve by disabling so much?

Actually, most of the features are still there. I bought it for the S-pen features and all that is still there. Did you go through the list and see what I turned off or are you just replying to reply? If you read my OG post you'd see I said that my goal was to keep the functionality of the device.
This phone is loaded with bloat and useless services and apps that most will never use. All these things can cause battery drain, cpu usage, ram usage, hardware heat, among other things. So why not turn off what is not needed? It doesn't matter how much ram the phone has, why run stuff that doesn't need to run since you aren't using it?
Fingerprint, shealth, Android pay, software updating, iris scanner, gmail, standard email, game launcher, Samsung cloud (much more useful than Google backup as it supports call logs, sms and other recoveries), the emergency alerts, car mode(for operating in car potentially with different launcher suitable for vehicle use) the list goes on and on and I did look, I don't post for no reason.

Like I said, I bought it for the S-pen features. What I disabled I don't use and have no use for. Also If I want to use them at any time I can just reenable them. So let's go through your list. Fingerprint, I use swipe or a pin or a pattern. S-health, I use google fit, or nothing since I don't need a smartphone to tell me how to be fit. Android pay, I use cash. Software updating, if I want an update I can manually grab it, I don't need a service running constantly checking for them. Iris scanner, it's stupid and I'll never use it. Gmail, I use inbox and Alto. Standard email, I only have gmail accounts so don't need other email services. Game launcher, I don't play games. Emergency Alerts, seriously? You are just looking for things to justify your post, EA's are useless and annoying when they pop up and have never benefited me once. Car mode, I have no use for it since I drive a 2000 windstar minivan and waze provides me with all I need in a car. Also, you didn't name one thing that makes this phone great but rather things that are basically on all Android's. Again, I bought the phone for the S-pen, all that is still there. Why are you even doing this? your post are as useless as the apps and services I disabled.
Troll flushed where it belongs. Goodbye, no need to be so rude about it.

Totally agree. I will try testing N7 when I get mine. First factory reset it out of the box (maybe get the update first then factory reset it with recovery). After that set it up keep all apps and see how battery is... the try the disabler I loke to debloat because phone looks much more cleaner then. And any debloat list is totally personal that why I used TB on my rooted devices, this time won't rush to root
Just disable the damn phone, turn it off and stop using it lol

Why all the hate?
I really don't get when people post about disabling certain features that others get upset. Or use power saver, etc.
This is one of the great things about Android, the ability to customize and mod our phones to our liking. Try doing any of these things with an Iphone, you can't. So this particular user wants to disable Gmail and messages because he uses other services (Inbox is awesome). He reports back that things still seem stable? Great! I am interested in updates to see if he runs into any problems etc
Let's talk about the great features we have, which include the ability to replace core apps if we desire. Don't jump on someone for doing so.
A mouse running into a room at a party doesn't cause chaos, how people react to it does. We are all responsible for our own actions. You don't like how someone else customizes their phone, who cares? Move on to the next post.

Used the phone very heavy today and ran into no real issues. I had to reenable one service because I tried to use the built-in EQ and it made settings crash. I was able to find the cause in less than a minute and reenable it The service that needs to run for the EQ to work is "SoundAlive" on page 8.
Also got 2.75 hours of SOT and 3 hours of gps use and was right at 50% battery left. At the end of tomorrow I'm going to post some screenshots.
Thanks for the list OP, I probably won't be disabling as much as you have but it's great to know what I can kill without messing up the phone. (when I finally get it)

No problem. I plan on trying to get more added to the list. Once I know what I've added so far is safe and doesn't cause any issues I'll slowly add more.
I appreciate the list too. It is good to know what can be safely disabled and then we can decide what we want to keep or give the heave ho.

I've done another day of heavy use today and I'm very happy with my results. I had over 3 hours of SOT using auto brightness which stayed on max brightness most of the time since I was outside and I still had over 40% (I estimate I was on track to get very close to 6 hours SOT with max auto brightness!!!) battery left when I got home. I also used GPS for about an hour along with installing app, and constantly doing other stuff on the phone. I'm going to update the OP with some more screenshots. But from these past two full days of very heavy use and no force closes or issues to speak of (other than having to turn SoundAlive back on for the EQ to work) I'm going to say what I've disabled so far is safe and causes no dependency issues. Also, the phone runs very smooth and doesn't get hot at all. Even today with basically 3 straight hours of SOT and max auto brightness the phone never heated up.
Oh! I'm at 101 things disabled now (not including my downloaded disabled apps) which is how I ran it all day today. More to come! Once I feel like I've found everything I can disable safely I'll do a new updated OP with all I found.
9/30/16 screenshots just showing some battery and cpu use stats. In the future I'm going to add some temp stats. If anyone has a good app for monitoring temps let me know even if it's paid. I don't mind buying apps that are good and useful.
Awesome the list is identical to what I disabled excluding iris, finger print, Samsung app store, gmail and sound alive. I can tell my phone lasts longer on a single charge and everything works just as if everything were enabled. For some odd reason I don't like seeing my RAM going over 2GB lol I know I know unused memory is a waste in Android OS.

I've always hated automation. I can't stand things running without my permission! I've had all startup programs on windows disabled since 2003 Back in the day on Windows XP I got my active running services in task manager to below 20. I'm now at 101 things disabled on the note 7 and I know there is a ton more I can turn off but I'm going about things slowly. I've confirmed that the 101 things I've turned off so far are safe and the phone definitely runs better in every way.
As far as the ram theories and myths about Android it's mostly people repeating their misunderstandings. Of course if you are using the apps in the ram a lot it's good for them to be there because they will load faster but if you are never using those apps and services and they are still sitting in your ram then it's not productive and a waste of resources which will cause the phone to not run optimally. These phones (and computers) come preloaded with tons of stuff running because they are targeted at the average user and not at the power/informed users. Anyone who knows much of anything about computers and how they are setup from the factory knows they are not configured for performance but rather a balance between performance and usability. Of course Android is getting better and better at managing apps and putting them to sleep but there still is nothing better than completely disabling things you don't need and will never use and thereby freeing up resources you can use for things you are actually using...wow! what a concept, have resources there to use for things you actually use! Genius! People seem to act like having ram full just for the sake of having it full is a good thing in Android when that is completely false. Even Android likes to have resources free that it can use for other things.
142 disabled apps and services
So I'm now sitting at 142 things disabled. I'm going to run my current setup for a couple days and see how it goes. I'll report back the results. Hopefully in a week or so I'll have a full list of what can be turned off without having issues.
Looking forward to your end results. Thank You for sharing your experience debloating.
