So, in my last phone i could set a target or a limit to the mobile data. So the phone would warn me around 200mb before the limit and when i hit the limit it would stop the data...
Is there any way to set a limit in honor 5x???
Thnc in advance

I wasn't able to find a way to turn off data after a set threshold in EMUI 4.0. But it looks like there's away to do this by opening up the Android system setting.

Has anyone else had an issue with SuperNexus 2.0 not calculation mobile data usage correctly. I set up the same limits that I have had in the past and within a day or two, I had supposedly hit my limits. I requested a usage balance from the phone company and I am not where near the limits calculated on the phone.

I experienced this issue as well, but from more ROMS than supernexus. I gave up on trying to use the firmware to keep up, and from time to time I simply check with at&t by using the ussd code below, taken from >>this at&t website<<
Check or estimate data usage:
You can check your data usage online, on your handset, or by dialing *3282# (*DATA#). We will send you a free text message with your data usage.
Thanks for the info...the *3282# method is the one that I used to verify that the data usage calculation was incorrect.
So I have a Samsung Galaxy Young S6312, rooted and running on stock ROM(jellybean 4.1.2).
I don't have access to unlimited data plans, so I want to keep my data usage to a minimum. So I downloaded 3g watchdog and tracked what was using up my data. And I came to know that Android OS is using up about 50% of my data. In 2 days I used about 90 MB data, out of which 45 MB were chewed by Android OS. I also used Onavo Count, which showed me that on a day when I used 25 MB data, 18 MB was used by Android OS. Please suggest me a solution, this is driving me mad.
P.S : Auto-Sync is turned of my device. I have also turned off Backup of passwords, contacts etc. Also, I don't use Google+ or YouTube on my device. So I don't know what is causing this.
There's a bunch of suggestions here:
http://androidandme.com/thread/android-os-crazy-data-usage/
Unfortunately, there is no ONE fix as different people have the issue for different reasons. Sometimes it's because they're on ICS and there seems to be a bug that affects some phones with it. Sometimes it was syncing, which I know you have off. Sometimes it's Google Play Services. Sometimes it's a 3rd party app or built in stock browser or launcher that reports as Android OS. So yea...seems like a PITA. Maybe running something like this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shaddow.eventLogger combined with this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobidia.android.mdm might help shed some light?
If you root, there's firewall apps such as droidwall and afwall which give you control to decide whicch apps should have access to 3g, wifi, including android os, kernel and any system app.
I forgot to mention, I already have a firewall(Android Firewall) enabled, and I use it in whitelist mode, and I have not ticked any app to have internet access other than which I use. I have also not ticked Android System. Yet somehow, inexplicably, Android Os is eating my data.

I use Droidwall for this purpose, now no unwanted data consumption by apps.

OP already mentioned he is using a firewall and hasn't helped.
To that end, maybe trying using it in blacklist mode and check everything, just to see if anything changes?
Tried Blacklist mode today, banned all apps except the ones I use often, but to no avail.........
Why don't you try another rom? See if the problem persists then...
Are you tethering your internet to a computer?
Back when I had Verizon, I hacked my Motorola Droid Razr Maxx (4.1.2) to have free mobile hotspot. I noticed the same thing: that Android OS was using a ton of data. However, the math didn't add up. I had 4gb of data, but when I'd get an overage warning, I'd look at all the numbers, and mobile hotspot and Android OS added up to way more than 4gb. I concluded it was just a glitch, since it was hacked, caused because the software just didn't know how to report it accurately.
For example, I'm currently using a 4.2.2 Samsung phone on T-Mobile (unlimited), and I've used a proverbial #@%$ ton of data doing USB tethering with PdaNet+, yet PdaNet+ doesn't show up as using data. My billing cycle resets on the 7th of each month, and loading up the T-Mobile app, it says I've used 262.66GB of data. On my phone however, it says that I've used 474GB. But Android OS only lists 68.65MB. With my Verizon phone, I used wi-fi tethering. On my T-Mobile phone I use USB tethering (and some Blu Tooth as well). So that could explain that discrepancy, or it could be the different Android versions.
Either way, OBVIOUSLY, something is wrong with the way Androids track data usage when it comes to tethering. If you tether, my advice to you would be to actually add up everything listed in the data usage, and then compare it to what your provider says you've used. I have no clue what it's like in India, but in the US, every major provider gives you an account app that, among other things like payments and plan changes, tracks your data/messaging/minutes usage. If tethering is the culprit, go by what your provider says, NOT by what your phone says.
If you don't tether, I don't know what the heck the problem could be.
Well, that certainly explains a lot. I DO use tethering rather a lot, so I guess the amount of data I use on tethering shows up as Android OS. Thanks for explaining this out to me.

Hey Guys,
I have a Lg G2 D802 and I have tried various stock ROMs like Cloudy G3, Optimus G3 and ofcourse the stock ROM. The issue is that my G2 seems to use mobile data even when my data is turned off. Upon further investigation, i found out that it's the Location Service when set to High Accuracy triggers the data irrespective of whether you have mobile data turned on or off.
Thing I have tried till now
1. Mobile data OFF :- Data gets consumed when i have location service set to High Accuracy
2. Mobile Data OFF and Connected to Wifi :- Data gets consumed when i have location service set to High Accuracy
3. Mobile Data OFF and used a Fake APN name :- Data gets consumed when i have location service set to High Accuracy
Due to this issue, i am not able to use offline navigation app like sygic.
A similar issue is Open in the Google Issue Tracker Page which can be found here
Is there any solution yet to get rid of the above bug?
I don't see how this restricts you from using anything. It's not like it's going to ACTIVELY use data, it sounds like it does some sort of very tiny data transfer, maybe even just agps data or such, and I'll bet it does it once a day.
It's not like GPS is "using data".

Yes it uses tiny packets of days, not like once in a day but may be every 10-15 minutes. But the main thing is that data should not get consumed once we have turned off the data.. People who are on roaming can still incur significant data charges. It indeed is a bug which is also on the Google issue tracker. Just wanted to know if anyone had any solution for it.
If it's true, then it's weird.
change location service to battery saving mode. then it wont.

I know it doesn't then but then I can't use offline navigation apps like sygic
if you install an application to track your data will you find the consumption of them?
I know there's some option when doing initial setup (like after reflashing ROM or hard reset). There's a checkbox or two, checked by default. Can't recall its name now but it's something like "Allow Google to do something (?) even when data is disabled".

"Allow Google to use your location even when location is turned off" or something.
Ahh, yeah. That's correct

That's not the issue.. the thing is I want to use location at high accuracy without using data.. I have offline navigation.. but that is not looking possible.
Hello everybody. Im new to this site and i know that there are people here who are very talented and i would like to thank them for their help that they provide. This site have helped me a great deal even though i just browse it.
Short version:
So, my service provider have this data plan for me which consists of 2 parts:
1- 2 GB during the month (except the duration of the second part).
2- 1 GB everyday and it is provided from 12:00 am to 6:00 am
So, if the time is anything but the second duration, my service provider will monitor my 2 GB consumption. And i believe the description for the second part of the plan is clear.
I would love it if there was an app that can monitors this data plan and can put caps on it and update accordingly on a daily basis. Is there such an app?
Thanks in advance.
TLR version:
Now, i like to download big files sometimes and to automate the process i used an app called automate it and it helped me in setting logical operators for the time interval of the second part and controls switching on/off my data connection and wifi but my current setup relies on me updating the data usage app of the system on a daily basis which is cumbersome. What happens is ill give my device the 1 gb allowance\cap on a daily basis. It will reach it during the 12-6 am interval. The system will turn the data connection off. Automate it will realize that and turn on the wifi connection to continue downloading. All of this while im a sleep which is awesome but i have to update the 1 gb allowance on a daily basis which is combursome and i would love it if there was an app that can put 2 data caps on my internet usage as based on the description of my data plan.
Thanks in advance.

Hi there
I have the KIW-L21 version of the Honor 5X and I am on the stock B140 firmware.
I have tried endlessly to find the setting where one can set the monthly mobile data usage limit and the related warning setting when one hits such a set limit.
It seems the setting(s) is not available on the Honor 5X.
Is this a known bug and are the Honor reps on this forum aware of this possible bug ?
If it is indeed a bug will it be fixed when the Android Marshmallow update is released ?
Thank you

Yes, it would be a reason if Honor do not fix this bug.
Is anyone else on a stock rom experiencing the same issue (i.e. not able to set a monthly mobile data usage limit) ?

The data setting is in the Phone admin app (the one with the shield) -> Data traffic -> package settings (first option) -> Data limit

Thanks, but on my phone the "PACKAGE SETTINGS" is not present.
Thus I am unable to set a data limit.
I think it may be a bug with the EMUI software which does not allow me to see the "PACKAGE SETTINGS" option.
I do hope Honor look into this possible bug.
I noticed this was missing as well. There's a setting to turn mobile data off and on but it doesn't look like the typical screen on Android, right? I just started researching this bc I had wished it was there as well and today I downloaded the Canon print app...For some reason it wanted me to toggle off cellular data and when I clicked the shortcut in the notification to go to settings it took me directly to the screen I didn't think existed where it shows the standard on/off toggle and a graph showing data usage with the option to set data limits. Can not find a direct way to get to it, but I know it exists now, which makes it even worse.

After a little more thought I think we can take advantage of this hack. Settings/data traffic management/traffic reminder settings allows you to set limits on data usage, but mine was always wrong because the start/end dates for my plan couldn't be set. It's a one-time hassle but downloading the Canon print app to get to the standard Android data usage screen allowed me to set the start date for my plan and after that we should be able to use the more advanced options of EMUIs traffic management. To be more specific about my process...Download the Canon print app, launch it. It will begin the setup process. All you have to do is accept terms for the first 2 screens and after that there's a notification to turn off cellular data, click yes to display the cellular data settings screen and you will get the standard Android data management screen that we all know and love. Setup whatever you wish. For me just being able to set the plan dates was all I needed, however you can always get back to this screen through the same process if you want to use it for other settings. Just don't actually turn off cellular data or complete the setup for the print app and it should run again any time you launch the app. If it doesn't, go to phone settings/apps and clear the memory of the Canon app to start fresh. IF you're like me and already have a Canon printer and use this app, you will have to setup you're printer again if you clear memory but you'll just need to do this once to set the plan dates then use EMUIs traffic management so that you can actually use the Canon app for your printer, but if you don't have a Canon printer you can use the app to get to this screen whenever you wish. I hope this helps someone. I know I'm thrilled just to be able to set the plan dates bc without that option all the traffic management stuff on the phone is always wrong and completely useless. Good luck!
Why not try an app from playstore !
