As title says.A lot of the times my home button doesn't work.Even pressing and holding does not bring up running programmes or to take me back to home screen.Only thing that solves is a re boot.Tried with touchwiz and go launcher and on KE2 firmware. Anyone else having the same problem?
Hi, I found some old threads about changing keylayout and stuff, but nothing recent (you know: since JB) and I just got the phone yesterday.
Right now, the phone does this:
Menu button press: menu
Menu button hold: Google Now (search)
Home button press: Home
Home button double-press: SVoice
Home button hold: Recent Apps
Back button press: Back
And I would like it to do this:
Menu button press: Recent Apps
Menu button hold: menu
Home button press: Home
Home button double-press: nothing
Home button hold: Google Now (search)
Back button press: Back
I'm kinda surprised that I can't find an app for this, as it really just seems like I'd be changing a little bit of text inside some config/layout files.
FWIW, I'm running completely stock but I rooted it yesterday. No ROM has been flashed, and I would love to keep it that way. Any help is greatly appreciated!

My thread got pushed off the front page faster than I could find Google Now on my new phone.

Thanx - nice find!
It still doesn't accomplish what I want, though... And I am a HUGE proponent of keeping things simple. My least favorite thing about Windows 8? All those muthereffin gestures that you need to memorize. It's not simple, and you have to completely relearn how to use an OS that you've been using for ages.
The home button does not return to the main screen when I press it.
I turned off the Google Assist long press, because whenever I pressed the home button it would immediately open that, but now that I've turned that off nothing happens when I press the home button.
I know it still works however, because when I close my phone the finger print recognition still opens my phone.
Any help would greatly appreciated as I'm having to use the floating dock which I really don't want to!

I had this issue a couple of times. For me it helped just to restart the phone.
I haven't been able to figure out a way to remap the physical power button. There was an xposed module that worked great long ago, but hasn't been updated to work with oreo. I want to be able to press/long press/double tap/whatever the power key to take me to the home screen. I've used the fingerprint sensor apps, but they're hit or miss at different times, which is more frustrating than not having it. The other button mapper programs seem to work for volume keys only. Rooted/Running LOS ROM
Remapping the power button seems like such a bad idea to me. What happens if you need to reboot?

Why? What does your "home" button do? On my Nova launcher, home button takes me immediately to home screen and much easier/faster than trying to double tap fingerprint sensor, which currently turns off/on display.
Or long tapping, which currently gives you reboot options.
Remapping power button seems like an answer in search of a problem, which would cause more problems?

Home button takes me to home screen as well, which is usually where I want to go. If I'm holding the phone it's much easier to press a physical button to get back. I rarely reboot, so could do away with that. On my G3, I had all the buttons on the back mapped to pull up assistant, go back, go to home screen using single/double/short/long taps. It was MUCH faster to do that. Anyway, I like it, it existed before, I want to know if I can get it back.

So found a program called "powy". It can intercept the power button keypress and then trigger tasker. It can't distinguish long v. short press, but you can program power button to trigger by pressing 1x/2x/3x/etc. Not as good as xposed additions (which hasn't been updated since MM), but functional and better than nothing.
The other day I had to restore my phone from an older backup after I accidentally deleted the home screen. Now, when I tap the home button from a different screen, it turns off the screen and locks it. I can't find any way to reset the home button back to being just a home button. I would appreciate some help on this for sure. Thank in advance.
