Label 900F, but bootloader 900V. What is true? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

Hi all, thanks for helping me.
After big adventures installing Rom, I figured out the following:
I bought an S5 with Rom G900FXXU1BOC7, in the label under battery there is also 900F, but on bootloader it was and still 900v always (even after rom update). Bootloader is locked and as I tired, (after failed flash twrp I gave up trying install anything else about 900F), the stock verizon rom 900v was allowed by Odin to be flashed.
What is really .y phone? May someone apply a different label on phone to overcome any illegal sell abroad? How it has a 900F Rom if from bootloader it looks a 900v? I've a CID11, there are 900F with CID11?
Thanks for answering

You have a 900F. I bought what looked to be a 900F myself as a second phone, but the first thing I did was to boot into download mode and found it to be a Chinese variant.
Looking like a 900F in the ROM is as simple as a build.prop change, but whomever flashed it may have taken a full 900F system image and combined it with the additional partitions for a 900V.
This is, unfortunately, not uncommon when searching for a 900F.
Since you have a CID 11 device in your hands, it is not unlockable and you are stuck with TW ROMs. If this isn't acceptable, I would work to get a refund/return.
The 900V will work worldwide with at least HSPA+, but it doesn't have all the LTE bands for all carriers.

thanks for info. You noticed me a big problem, the absence of LTE. I've never seen the phone in that mode, but I also never switched on the mobile data. 1) Is the phone going in LTE even without internet? 2) Can I check it without mobile data ON?
About the rest I didn't get everything you wrote, looks possible to mix software components to make the phone appear as different model.
My questions are:
3) Does the eventual lock of LTE frequancies connected with hardware limitations? For example the Toshiba chipset?
4) It looks strange they created another hardware platform to limit the frequencies usage. It looks more a software restriction, that may be removed uploading another ROM.
5) Does only the bootloader (download mode) display exactly (and without any dubt chances) the model of phone?
6) If it possible to apply a label with another model? My label looks original..
7) There are existing 900F with CID11?
I'm not going to ask for a refund.. simply I'm out of period for it. Anyway it works good, waiting for unlock.
Thank you a lot for answers, I hope u can answer them

The bootloader displays the model of the phone that IT was designed for, not the actual phone.
Does Odin allow a 900F ROM flash?
ALSO: You are in the WRONG place for this thread.

3 - Not a hardware limitation, unless they've tuned the antenna in some way.
4 - This is limited by the variables stored in the Qualcomm radio. There are threads out there that claim to allow you to unlock additional LTE and GSM bands. This may be additionally limited in the non-hlos/modem. You'll have to research this yourself.
5 - The bootloader does not lie. Everything else can.
6 - It's possible to apply a different label. They always look legit in these situations. Someone may have even built a "new" phone using the rear plastic of a 900F and the circuitboard of a 900V...
7 - I'm sure there are.
Echoing an earlier comment, this is probably in the wrong forum.

Thank you really a lot!! Very useful infos!! Please don't forget question 1 and 2 )
It looks then that as soon guys will unlock phones like mine I'll be able to upload an F custom rom, and I'll be sure I can use lte. It looks quite impossible they changed hardware for limit that.. expensive and no sense solution

[Q] Docomo SC-05D

I currently have a Docomo (Japan) SC-05D which is a Docomo branded Galaxy Note, I have rooted the phone but i'm wondering if anyone knows of any roms or kernels that will work on my phone. Usually I wouldnt have a problem with this, but I do not have the stock Odin file to return it to stock if I should brick it. Anybody?

I doubt anything in the N7000 forum would work for it, given that it uses a different CPU (based on what I can make out from the link below). It seems closer to the i717 Note, but not quite.
http://www.nttdocomo.co.jp/product/next/sc05d/spec.html
It uses the same GPU as i717, but unfortunately the CPU is different:
SC-05D Note uses APQ8060 CPU with Adreno 220.
i717 Note uses MSM8660 CPU with Adreno 220.
So i guess you'd have to ask developers if any custom ROM would work on your device if you simply swapped the kernel with the the one supporting your cpu. Since it uses Adreno GPU which already is supported with i717 custom ROMs i guess it might be possible.
Well I have a kernel for the phone so I'm hoping this will work.
hi, i just got my docomo sc 05d, unlock, on softbank. so do you have any information on which rom that this galaxy note can use?
i found this website (in japanese) providing link for downloading stock rom. there might be other information out there for custom rom, but my japanese is not that good. i have a feeling that the custom roms do not support tv and LTE.
thanks
edit: i kinda softbricked mine just now when i try to tweak the build.prop. anway, for sure, the stock rom from the above link does work. flash it back to stock using odin with the tar file (inside the zip).. back to life, unrooted kinda do some more browsing and i think docomo galaxy note is more similar to the korean version rather than the at&t.

Thinking of doing the same thing here. How difficult is it to do SIM unlock? How does it work on SoftBank network? 1seg works ok?

Just go to DoCoMo shop with your phone, photo ID (for my case Alien Card) and 3150 yen and say you want to unlock. They will unlock without any question.
You don't need to be DoCoMo customer. I am using softbank without any problem.1 seg is working.

DoCoMo version is very similar to Korean version. I tried to flash Korean ICS (http://pspmaster.tistory.com/179) ROM via Odin. At the last moment of flashing, it was failed. I restarted the phone and it booted successfully with ICS, network and GPS was OK. But there were some application failed to start. After I restart the phone again, I got SIM card error and my SIM card was not detected. So I flashed DoCoMo stock ROM from http://www.sammobile.com/ via Odin and my phone now back to original state except one flash count.
I noticed that size of Korean ICS ROM is biggar than DoCoMo stock ROM and that might be the reason for the failed flash.
One thing I am sure that little modification of Korean ROM should work with this phone.

Interesting, didnt know this was possible. So you claim that you can do the SIM unlock by just bringing some DoCoMo handset, without them checking if you are the actual person who had signed the contract for that particular handset?
Maybe i would try this, but my experience with Softbank in this kind of matters does not make me a believer...

Yes, that is what I am claiming and that is what I did. You can see also here http://www.nttdocomo.co.jp/english/support/procedure/simcard/unlock_dcm/index.html . ---"If line subscriptions for DOCOMO cannot be confirmed, the identification of the person who applies is required."
I was afraid too that they would require purchase receipt or something, and I also don't know Japanese much. But luckily I didn't need to explain anything
Sorry, I don't know any other community based firmware

It works perfectly fine with Softbank network. 1seg also ok. no problem at all. it might give you battery drain problem which can easily be solved by editing build.prop.
i didnt even go anywhere near docomo counter to get this phone i got it at amazon.co.jp. around 38,000 (probably cheaper now), already unlocked.
i no longer use it though. i really really really really want the ics update, so i bought n7000 and gave the sc05d to my gf. the n7000 will cost you around 43,000. you can update n7000 to stock ics. i love it with the new premium suite app. no 1seg is ok for me, coz my japanese is not that good

Yeah......
The first root method they created themselves +1 to their flash counter, and 2 units(1 clean and 1 target)needed, as there nobody in Japan knows to use the CheckFus,which can pulls the stock ROM pack from Kies Server......
And then, there are someone from other country(sure that not from Japan),
puts the stock ROM up,and tolds the SHV-E160S tegrak kernel can done the work without +1,but until now most of the blog sites still have the old method left.

You can root your phone by following Korean version root procedure as here http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-no...-galaxy-note-lteshv-e160s-shv-e160kshv-e160l/
After rooting, uninstall/freeze some unnecessary system application those always runs in memory by Titanium backup or any other root uninstaller software. That will make your phone little faster.
I am also looking for faster rom but seems there is no rom yet.
Official ICS update for much older SC-02C (galaxy S II) has been released. Is there any news for SC-05D?
Even there is Jelly Bean update for Nexus and our newer phone is still 2 version lower
Regarding the update: http://www.nttdocomo.co.jp/info/notice/page/120702_00_m.html
・Disney Mobile on docomo F-08D
・Disney Mobile on docomo P-05D
・GALAXY Note SC-05D
will start getting updates about August.
・「F-12C」
・「XperiaTM PLAY SO-01D」
・「XperiaTM ray SO-03C」
・「XperiaTM acro SO-02C」
・「XperiaTM arc SO-01C」
may get updates, but docomo seems to be saying the lack of RAM is making it a challenge for them to get acceptable performance with ICS on these phones:
"■AndroidTM4.0へのバージョンアップ検討中の製品について
 以下の製品については、AndroidTM4.0へのバージョンアップの際、メモリ不足となる場合があり、その際十分な性能が確保できない可能性があるため、AndroidTM4.0 へのバージョンアップは見送らせていただきます"
Those phones all have 512MB of RAM.

More about the SC-05D (and perhaps other docomo phones) you might find interesting:
I disabled LTE on my Galaxy Note (SC-05D) yesterday using Samsung's service mode ( *#*#2263#*#* specifically. Google it for more info...) While I do not yet see any longer battery life or cooler running temperature, this change did finally fix a long-standing problem.
Since I got the Galaxy Note over a month ago, I have been unable to access the net while on the train between Yokohama and Totsuka. My phone cannot send email or browse the web in that area pretty much everytime any time of the day.
Until today.
Today I could browse and do everything just like normal. There were no apparent network problems whereas before there was nothing but problems. Apparently disabling LTE resolved the problem.
I had gone to the docomo shop a few days ago because my battery had been drained to zero, so low that the phone could not reboot even with a powered USB cable connected. Maybe the phone requires more current than USB delivers, so it needs the battery for a boot, but mine was too low, I guess.
Anyway, the phone kept cycling through incomplete boots, sometimes mentioning the battery was too low before the full UI was fully loaded, then rebooting again. Eventually it would only buzz every five seconds or so. There was no other response to attempting a power on with the battery in and USB connected. Coincidentally, when I took my phone in and showed it to the staff at the local docomo shop, it began a normal boot (or a normal charge cycle while off . . .) I used that opportunity to ask a lot of questions and make suggestions and requests.
So today I went in again to tell them that I had fixed the one network problem. I did get patched through to a knowledgeable support person, and she tried to understand everything precisely, apologized for the problem, and said she would pass on the info. I asked her when the first service update would be on the phone figuring that would probably solve some problems -- and I asked about the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade -- again. And this time I got a different answer than the usual non-committance.
On July 2, docomo will issue a press release that may address when the Galaxy Note will get its upgrade. It might happen soon after that, maybe even the next day. So, we Galaxy Note users should check the docomo site on July 2nd. If there is nothing about the Galaxy Note in the press release, a lot of us calling and asking about the update for our malfunctioning phones will have a magnified impact.
Regarding the specific problems with the phone:
- the battery drains fast (perhaps little can be done about this...)
- the phone gets hot enough for the camera to be disabled. Something should be able to be done about this. I can't imagine the Note's current temperature sensitivity is set correctly. For example, today I was typing messages in a restaurant for lunch for about 15 minutes. My phone got up to 42 degrees (I checked later using "Battery Mix"), and I tried to take a photo of my curry set using "Evernote Food", but the camera app said the phone was too hot and refused to run.
- The phone about once a week will lose the network connection and nothing short of a reboot will find it again. This sometimes happens after the phone being in WiFi mode all night and then going out into a 3G area the next morning. Toggling airplane mode does not catch the network.
- The aforementioned cellular black hole between Yokohama and Totsuka when in normal, LTE/automatic mode.
These problems aren't just with me. Searching for related keywords 電池 熱い 弱い すぐ カメラ "SC-05D" will show other people complaining about the same things. I do wonder if the other national and international versions suffer the same fate . . . The LTE chip/ROM is particular to Japan, so I hope Samsung and docomo just couldn't get the best settings for the new configuration before release of the SC-05D but will soon.
Other than these problems, I love the phone. The big size is not causing me much trouble, but it comes in very handy for typing with a decent sized keyboard in landscape mode -- and for eBooks, games, showing photos/videos to others, etc.
This is only for the brave. I take no responsibility if it renders your phone into an expensive brick. As I only have one SC-05D, what I have achieved may not necessarily to the case for you. Still interested? read on.
If you want to test performance of ICS 4.0.3 in SC-05D before the release of official Docomo rom, you can Odin flash SHV-E160K-UF13 (ICS rom for the korean LTE note). Rom can be found at Tegrak's website (http://pspmaster.tistory.com/181; google translate is your friend; I only tried E160K, though roms for E160S and/or E160L may work). Odin will say the flash is an utter failure, showing the big, red, ugly icon and halt progress there. Surprisingly, the phone will boot. Unplug your device, long press power button to force power off, then power on. You'll now be greeted eventually by a new screen with korean letters. Click on the white "arrow" will bring up the language selection section, which now gives us a lot more languages to choose.
One major problem I encountered with this rom is its inability to get onto mobile network. All UK sims I tried (O2, Vodafone, Orange PAYG) failed to hook onto the network. I had some success with one sims I got from my travel in Hong Kong, but reception is unreliable and the phone will drop carrier frequently. As a phone, it's useless. A minor issue I have is this rom is littered with bloatwares. I haven't tried tegrak's kernel for rooting the ICS rom (found on the same website for ICS rom), but, if it works, presumably they can be frozen by TB.
That's that. Everything else works, if not better. Scroll performance is snappier (not buttery smooth, of course), apps load reasonably fast. Occasionally it becomes laggy when switching between apps (or switching on camera), which is not so great, but overall it seems faster. Consumption of battery power is more or less the same as before (when running GB). NFC and Android beam also work, though the apps for handling NFC is purely in Korean. It also boot up must quicker than when it was on GB.
Try at your own risk, don't say I haven't warned you.

Thanks for your post. I tried same ROM some days ago and same thing happened as you. At first boot, the network was ok, but after reboot, my SIM was not detected. That was my primary phone, so I could not afford to use that without network. So I flashed with DoCoMo stock ROM and everything became normal.
GT-N7000 vs. SC-05D Performance
Good bye SC-05D and welcome Gt-N7000. I sold my SC-05D because of the lack of update and slow performance and bought GT-N7000. To justify my exchange, I made a comparison with AnTuTu benchmark and the summery is:
GT-N7000 vs. SC-05D
Total: 3927 vs. 3347
CPU: 6536 vs. 6054;
Memory: 3749 vs. 2973;
I/O: 7025 vs. 5632;
2D: 280 vs. 501;
3D: 2043 vs. 1573.
Except 2D rating, SC-05D is worse in every other category. SC-05D is running on stock Ginger Bread and GT-N7000 is running on stock ICS.

[SHV-E160][Root][Stock]How to Root Korean Note via Flashing with Rooted Stock FW

Admins- apologize for posting it here. Please feel free to move to appropriate location. I just want to help fellow Galaxy Note (korean version) owners. With the help of Google translate, and straining to interpret various chinese and korean websites, I was able to deduce a way to root the Korean note via updating it with rooted stock firmware (Samsung Original Firmware, only it's already Rooted).
How to Root Korean Note via Flashing with Rooted Stock Firmware
Flashing:
general instructions taken from mycatisether post
Put the Korean Note into download mode by holding down the volume down button + home button + power button
The Note will then display a tonne of Korean text on-screen, press the volume up button to actually enter the download mode
Run Odin in administrator mode (not really sure if it makes a difference but might as well), make sure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are the only checked items, click the PDA button and select the appropriate firmware file from the list below. Each ROM ~1GB+. Note that the latest firmware is at the bottom of the list for each model.

Note: Flashing this firmware will not erase your data. It will preserve everything (apps, accounts, SMS, etc), including keeping disabled all the bloat apps I've disabled in the system. Rooting will allow you to permanently remove all these and other protected bloat apps.

Sounds like your phone is carrier locked. I think you need to have to unlock your phone first. Rooting will not unlock carrier.

Admins- apologize for posting it here. Please feel free to move to appropriate location. I just want to help fellow Galaxy Note (korean version) owners.
With the help of Google translate, and straining to interpret various chinese and korean websites, I was able to deduce a way to root the latest UH24 firmware for the Korean note. In case you're wondering, I've observed noticeable performance improvements with UH24. Also, the video pop-up play also works flawlessly here.
HOW TO ROOT SHV-E160 UH24 ROM
Flashing:
general instructions taken from mycatisether post
Put the Korean Note into download mode by holding down the volume down button + home button + power button
The Note will then display a tonne of Korean text on-screen, press the volume up button to actually enter the download mode
Run Odin in administrator mode (not really sure if it makes a difference but might as well), make sure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are the only checked items, click the PDA button and select the appropriate firmware file from the list below. Each ROM ~1GB+.

Great work man!! I was also looking for this since long... thanks a lot.. pressed it too
Problem being now, I am seeing 2 superusers, one earlier superuser since I was rooted previously and now the new SuperSU from the new ROM. Any suggestions on how to remove. Tried though root explorer but can't see any superuser.apk there

Well, I think you can just simply decide which one of them you want to use, and uninstall the other. If it's a user app, it should be pretty easy to uninstall it. If it's a system app, you may need to use titanium backup to do it.

Yes it is a system app. Can't see it in system\app folder. Tried titanium backup and root explorer too. But can't see the app there. But the super user and SuperSU both apps are there.
This is perfect. The 4th ICS Rom that I found after searching for so long!

This is awesome indeed, thank you so much jairrab!
I just got the SHV-E160S from a Korean friend and updated it to the latest firmware via KIES (IMM76D.UH24).
As I suspect many others have experienced, I noted to my dismay that I cannot send text messages longer than 80 characters, and that I only have G-service with my 4G plan on T-Mobile in the US.
I read through as much I could find about the Korean Notes on the web, including here on XDA, but a few question marks remain and I was hoping some of you kind gentlemen could help me figure those out.
Four quick questions (althouh detailed answers are definitely welcome
Will flashing the ROM give me ability to text normally?
Will flashing the ROM allow me at least 2G or 3G speeds on T-Mobile or AT&T in the US?
Can I revert to the original Korean rom from SK Telecom/Samsung, and if so where can I find it? (I am going back and forth to Korea so having the native rom is immensly helpful)
Are there any drawbacks to flashing this phone apart from losing Korean services?
Thank you so much. I am so glad I found at least a tiny teeny Korean Note owning community here on XDA. Hopefully it'll have time to grow and develop. :fingers-crossed:

Hi there,
I will tell you what I knows about the Korean Note till date;
1. You can't just flash any ROM and it will work with the Korean Note, especially the I717 ROM's they will not work. Even I thought it should but apparently there are subtle differences between these phones and Samsung Korea made it different than the I717.
2. There is a hidden menu for every Korean Note, I own the SHV-E160L and it is 319712358 then for the password it is 0821. You can manually select your data connection there. I guess E160L is locked with U+ on LTE and it is CDMA, so it will not work with 4G/LTE. But, you can switch to WCDMA, this gives you 3G speeds, and GSM only will give you GPRS. I am using 3G speeds currently in India.
3. These are the orignal ROM's. For my E160L Kies detects it as orignal and indicates that I am up to date with the firmware.
4. As I said earlier, flashing any ROM will not work, it will need specific ROM's for your particular SHV only. We all are wishing for a good custom ROM, but no success till date. There are some ROM's available for SHV's on KOXDA, but again the language is a big problem, along with the site securities.
I hope this will help you in some regards. Have fun..
Thanks

Hey woopsgoops, thanks a lot for that information! You might just have saved me a headache or two.
I was seriously going to flash with the T-Mobile Rom+modem, but now I am glad I didn't. I might flash with the ROM supplied in this thread to at least get root and sort out some of the *cough* bloatware *cough* issues.
Firstly I am going to explore this hidden menu if I can set up network etc. for T-Mobile here in the US, so I can get at least 3g. I'll report back on that! It kind of sucks when you go from 4G (eg. having the fastest data in town) to 2g, even though TMO is extremely cheap.
Just to let you know, for the SVH-E160S the dial number 319-712-358 is correct, but the password turned out to be 996412, courtesy of another XDA member: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29451233&postcount=3
As for the Chinese websites I am trying to steer clear of those. There's always a nagging feeling of being observed by something whenever I surf China, and then there's the viruses. It might just all be paranoia though.
By the way, what a great phone the Note is. It looks, feels, and works absolutely phenomenal. Good job Samsung, I am sure other manufacturers will start making similar devices. Seems even Apple is heading that direction, abandonig their holy grail "optimal" 3.5 inch screen.
Plus, I am stoked that I could encrypt the entire phone. I was always worried sick with all my passwords etc. lying around my older androids, if they'd ever get stolen or lost.
I'll report back on the US carrier compatibility!
Thanks again!

You are welcome mate. I am glad that it helped you.
Yes, in my opinion you should flash the ROM in this thread, which will give you root access then using titanium backup/ root explorer you can get rid of all the bloatware in the Korean ROM.
For the SMS, make sure that you have your number shown in Settings>About Phone>Status>My Phone Number with country code. If it is not there then you need to borrow an i-phone or Cynogen Mod Android phone (CM7 in my case) and put your number manually via its settings. Since there is no way you can do it on the original ROM running on Android.
Then you can install Handcent SMS and turn it as your default messaging app. This should give you SMS lengths more than 80 characters, but less than 150 characters. Anything beyond or around 150 characters and the SMS will hang up and will show sending forever. I have tried to search for solutions for it like changing the 6 files in system>app folder with N7000's MMS.apk but it didn't worked. So living with it for the time being. At least it is more than 80 characters.
Let us help each other, and hope that someday a kind developer see our pain and give us a custom ROM!!

Hey, thanks for this additonal information!
Exploring this phone I go from clarity to clarity. I stumbled upon something while I was texting today. When I used the Google Voice app (I use it for its excellent voicemail service and the extra phone nr it provides) I realized that I can text to my hearts content. No beeps, no conversion to mms, no failed send, no nothing, just pure sending goodness 160+ characters per text. I instantly switched to get all my text to the Google Voice app and replaced the default messaging app on my TouchWiz quickbar. Felt like to easy to be true, but there you go! Sometimes you get good surprises as well.
As you may recall, I was a bit upset about the Korean bloatware that sucked my RAM away, but realized this awesome device actually allows for disabling of apps. I don't actually care if they're on my phone memory as long as they're not running in the background. Good stuff!
I honestly don't even feel compelled to get root anymore, because the only reason of having it - for me personally - would be to get true backup from my TitanitumBackup license, and stuff like that. Now, unless root and/or ROM flash would give me some major improvement such as increased data speeds I don't think it's really worth it for me.
For all the fun of exploring Samsung's maintenance GUI, the hidden menu unfortunately didn't give me much joy. I figured out there are no compatible T-mobile or AT&T 3G frequencies anyway, and all the other carriers such as StraightTalk, SimpleMobile, MetroPCS, etc. just use the antennas of those two anyway. American companies are world class when it comes to crippling the competition. Not a chance for consumers to jump ship without losing an arm or a leg. Creates a sense of belonging I guess
I am currently trying to straighten out an issue I have when I plug in the phone to my Windows PC USB and it says "Hardware ID missing." It worked well before, before I upgraded to ICS unless I'm mistaken. In any case, I think I can use KIES Air and transfer stuff OTA for now, or put stuff on the SD card I suppose. I even tried the USB drivers from the Korean Samsung website, and downloaded Kies from the same place. Will see how that turns out when I have some time.
Thanks, and have a good weekend now! :good:
Wait very long at start up
How long you have to wait after flashing and see the phone go into Android?
I have 160L. After I flash it, I wait at Pink "U+ LTE" loading like forever. (I wait 30mn and still there).

Which sbf file I need for my Atrix ?

So I need to send my Atrix back to Motorola and need to flash a .sbf file in order to relock it (running CM7 for now).
I've read tutorials so I'm not concerned about the procedure but more about which .sbf file I need. My Atrix was bought from ibood.de so it's probably coming from Belgium or The Nertherlands.
Any idea of the version that is used ?
Here's a screenshot of the box for some info : http://i.imgur.com/8j7DP.jpg

you dont need to reload original (i sent mine with just a 2.3.6 fruitcake rom)
they will lock your phone forever with new stock rom (no way to unlock it with current procedures)
hope it help[s
Do they always lock it ? Don't you think it has to do with the fact that you send it unlocked ?
Sometimes they don't permalock it, but most of the time they do. Just assume it is going to get locked.
That's super ****ty. And there's nothing that can be done to unlock it ?
I mean, I don't even think that is legal, they just can't change my product if they want it. It's mine now and I want them to fix it not to change it.
Not only do they cancel ICS but they would now stuck me with stock rom !

You can blame all the media corps and their desire to control media consumption for that. The primary reason for locked bootloaders has a lot to do with companies and groups like Netflix, the cable industry, MPAA/RIAA, etc. not being willing to allow their services if certain protectionist measures aren't put in place.
As for locking it and it being legal? They can simply give you a replacement and it be locked and claim it was cheaper to swap it than fix it. What's worse is that there is a growing debate over who owns devices once purchased and devices purchased on subsidy could be used as being considered owned by the carrier or manufacturer and only 'leased' to the customer. Now that's what I'd call pretty s****y because if they get away with that then we'd own nothing which is ideal for any company on the ownership side of the deal.
And sorry for being a little off topic but it's definitely something that will only get worse before it gets better.

There ulis nothing illegal with them permalocking the bootloader on your device.

That may be true for the US but I'm European (so is my Atrix) where Netflix and cables companies don't have any kind of power on that level (for now) + the UE tend to make laws to prevent those situations.
So can I hope that lock issue is US-only ? Did it happen to non-US users ?

I'm not really sure but I'd be willing to bet if it goes to a US facility it'll get locked regardless.
Also, looking at the type number it appears it's the UK version but don't take my word on it.

Flashing HTC One ME (m9et)

So I got this Chinese version One ME. Since the firmware is some China Mobile modded system, its pretty useless as it is (no Google services etc...). From what I read the India firmware (0PLAIMG_HIMA_ACE_ML_DTUL_L50_SENSE70_hTC_Asia_India_1.11.720.6_Radio_1.1506V24P21.2008.0505_HDT[W.T]_release_437175_signed) should work on it. But I am stuck at the upgrade...
The phone is brand new, not used, not setup beyond putting going through the process to start it. I put the firmware on an SD card. I renamed the file to '0PLAIMG.zip' and put it in the root directory of the SD card. I then rebooted in Download mode and get to choose Vol up to initiate the flashing process. I then hit Power key to confirm.
However instead of going through the process, the screen goes blank - It switches off. I can reboot it to the normal system, but I cannot flash it.
I am wondering...
1. is this firmware not going to work?
2. Do I need to do a S-Off (and how do I do this? dont have a Windows machine)
3. Does it need a SIM card inside for it to update the firmware
4. Am I missing something else?
any help much appreciated!

thanks, but as I mentioned I dont have access to a Windows PC. Whats this 'Recoveru' ? Is this a spelling error - meant to say Recovery? If so, where do I find a Recovery that works with this phone?
Thanks for correcting the spelling Error. My God I could Have Got arrested And Been jailed for About Eternity For That or Worse Hanged Till death.
Thank you for enlightening Me with the Gracious Knowledge of English.
You saved My Life And For That. Now To The Post.
Let's First Consider the chinese phones they have a completely different user interface and very often also a different hardware that better fits the Chinese mobile networks and might not work as well outside of China.
Google is also blocked in China, therefore you won't be able to access most google services on a Chinese phone and there is no google app store in the Chinese phone. For that reasons,Chinese phones are NOT SOLD outside of China.
People based outside of China should buy the ROW version of the phone.
Unfortunately, some people buy the Chinese phones, root them, modify them, add bloatware, and sell them online to customers outside of China.
Unsurprisingly, phones that are modified in such a way do not run the original version of the software intended by Lenovo. Cannot be updated to new software release, or if you update them you will end up with Chinese firmware.
Now for your Phone Custom Recoveries and ROMs are available But They Will also End Up Like The ROM.
But If the countries Have Matched Hardware Or The Phones are Specifically Designed For Your Area You might Succeed In Doing So.
But With Some Major Changes To the Hardware could Result In Some Bad Manner.
Now You can Backup your firmware on a PC and try To Unlock Your Phone Then Flash The Firmware.

I am well aware of that, as I have been living here in lovely China for rather too long... but thats another story. Perhaps consider for a second that I may have got this phone for a present, use it not only in China, but also outside, and believe I can make it work like any international HTC... So, now back onto the actual problem:

Right, so you mean it could work, but again, it may not. Perhaps worth trying a variety of ROM's if what I am doing is correct (the flashing procedure I mean). I guess I wanted to make sure I am not missing something in the flashing procedure, as I have never flashed a HTC before.
thanks anyhow! I do appreciate it

Having Exotic Hardware Do Mean Exotic Experience(Sometimes not In a good way)
Having a Chinese Device Doesn't mean You can't flash a Different Regional Firmware On it.Maybe The Firmware files Got Mixed During Downloading(Correct Term Corrupted).Sometimes It do Work.I had a Note 3 a Few Years Ago.I bought it during a Trip to KSA It had a Different Firmware KSA version to be Specific,I just Downloaded My region's Firmware and Flashed It via Odin.No Unlocking bootloader no S-off no storage Protection that is why I do prefer Samsung Or Nexus Over other Companies Due to Their Open Source Software and Having a Unlocked Bootloader and hardware Being Literally Identical In Different Regions.

Success! 5G Working on DEMO LG Wing.

So I was able to successfully get the DEMO LG Wing I bought off of ebay. (Model LMF101V) Flashed. And despite being told these didn't even have a modem in them, I am able to get 5G with a Tmobile SIM now. *I believe these were originally Verizon demo's, but I am not sure. I am missing storage, which I have seen was a problem with other LG demo models. However it appears the SD card is working, so this is not a huge deal to me. (It registers 8GB instead of 256GB) I know the storage is actually there, because prior to flashing, I was able to access and use it in the demo mode.
I was wondering if anyone could help me get the biometrics working? The hardware is present and the phone does detect a fingerprint reader, but when trying to use it, it never registers any finger prints. *It does not accept or reject, the screen changes to indicate my finger is touching the glass, but nothing happens as far as registering my fingerprint goes, it just does nothing. I do not yet know if the 50% charging limitiation is still in place or not, I will update when I find out. I am assuming this is no longer an issue.
Not bad for $180 now that it has service. I accomplished this by making my own modifications to LGUP, I will be honest, I am a newbie when it comes to this stuff. So I was poking around and changed a few things here, a few things there, and I could not tell you specifically what I did that made this work. The phone still does not show me an IMEI number. (Just a 0 in place of it.) I dont want to break the rules regarding changing IMEI's, but since this would be more like restoring the IMEI, maybe the mods will allow us to discuss potential fixes to that issue.
Interesting this demo unit. What is the firmware showing in the system menu? Could you update to any newer firmware? Or could you unlock the bootloader / flash another official fimware?

Modified LGUP - Chip Erase was the only option that would do anything at all. So I first flashed a Verizon ROM and then a Tmobile ROM. Both lifted all all the limitations placed on the device. The only thing that did not work was the fingerprint sensor, but its there... so there has got to be a way. That and it wont show an IMEI number at all after that. Yet at least with Tmobile, that doesnt appear to matter.
Please direct me to the steps or page that will explain how to do what you did to remove this demo crap. Thanks in advance.

There isn't one. I figured this out on my own.
Have you played with a Velvet 5g? I just got a retail mode one.
I got ahold of 2 V60 demo units. I believe they are the Verizon ones? Anyhow i removed demo limitations to allow use of the device again, battery is at 50% llke most, and its supposedly missing the modem as i cannot get any information in Phone Information for the cellular bands etc.. It would be nice however to get them working IF they are present.
I don't see how your velvet has the modems unless perhaps it was specific verizon ones which these devices were rumored to have the ability of a full device (modem and everything else) once flashed to different firmware.
If you could walk back through what you do (i know im guilty myself of forgetting to write things down) and try to remember exactly what all you did this would help a lot on these demo units. I see a people wanting to convert them more these days since the phones are getting more hi tech. 5-7 years ago and so you could covert these,, Before that demo phones.. well they were all real. Was never an issue getting them cheap and no need for converting.. Wish it was like that today!
Any updates on this? Local used phone stores want $450 starting, I see a handful on eBay for anywhere from $120+, non-demo ones average around $350+. I'd like to get one that's unlocked (currently on Sprint/TMobile) but likely gonna be switching to AT&T. I see a lot of phones that say unlocked but I don't know if they're truly unlocked and/or how to do it myself if they're in fact not unlocked. 10+yrs ago I used to bake my own ROM's and whatnot but nowadays it feels like Spanish to me so I don't wanna buy the wrong phone and have it not work (demo issues) or not be able to easily switch providers.

Is there any chance you could share what you did to get this working? I've been trying to flash stock firmware to my Wing but haven't had any success. All of my attempts have either caused LGUP to crash, fail, or "successfully" flash but never actually do anything to the phone.

Alright, I'll give that a shot. Any specific firmware I should go for? I have the Korean and Verizon, not sure which is better. This is a Verizon demo unit, btw.
Edit: If you could link me to the terminal version, that would be appreciated.

I personally cant wait until firehose comes out for the lg velvet. I have a few of those. They work great on att 5g. Almost feels exactly like my s20 ultra in my hand. Too bad lg stopped making phones.
Terminal version worked perfectly! The korean firmware works and seems to be fully functional, although I will have to do more testing. I may try flashing US carrier firmware at some point if it's compatible (probably T-Mobile as I use that), but for now this is fine.
Been using the phone for a few days now. It's largely been fine, however the fingerprint sensor doesn't seem to work as the OP mentioned. Still, if anyone has a demo device, it's much better then using the gimped firmware it comes with.

Tried without downgrading the firmware (if that's even possible- I don't think the Wing came with Android 9). ( #*462633*#100# ) got me into the service menu, did the fingerprint test and now it recognizes me putting my finger against the sensor, but tells me "Cover the entire sensor with your finger" every time.
Edit: To be clear, I'm using the latest Korean firmware. I'm not sure if downgrading it would work, since as far as I know it's all Android 10.
