Root mini m8s II s905x - Android Stick & Console AMLogic based Computers

Hi,
I bought this on gearbest but it is not rooted... I tried to root with king root and other one touch app but nothing... How çab I do? Is there a way to have a custom recovery on the device? How can I open the recovery? Thanks

The old method of booting a custom recovery from SD card doesn't work anymore.
Guess we have to wait until they release an update.
Manipulating the original update.zip is too much work and getting it verified, etc.
The stock recovery can be accessed by holding down "reset" while powering on the device.

Probably a dumb question, but did you try Framaroot and Kingoroot? I need that box....

Framaroot on Amlogic based board and Android M? Don't think so.
Kingoroot is not much different to Kingroot / Kinguser, they also struggle with Android 6 methods...
You need the box? It's not that great tbh. An older box with 5.1.1 and OTG port is more practical in daily use at this point.
It will take a while before we can play around on this device, give it some weeks (...at least ^^).

Yeah you are right, Framaroot is way to old. But maybe the little differences in Kongoroot will do the trick No idea how similar they are, just started looking into it this WE.
I'll probably go for a lollipop-box, just as you said. And maybe come back to this in a while...

I'll give it a go with Kingo but I guess I already know what the result will be.
Since those boxes are on "sale" every other day, you won't have a problem getting a decent one for a fair price...
Or just check sites like freaktab.com as well (besides XDA, ofc. ^^) so you can see which box is supported by the community and has TWRP and root options available.
edit: yup, Kingo fails just as King...

Well, thanks for trying. and thank you for the link. will check it out!

Unless the "nameless manufacturer" decides to release a pre-rooted variant of the same build or a separate recovery update, we have to keep trying, because:

I'm not mad though, when you pre-order a device you have to deal with it and hope for better times... or sell it again.

I would pay for a root installer for this device! I hope someone is working on it right now. Seems there is no root available for any S905X device running Android 6.0 Marshmallow?

Anyone figure out how to root these yet?

hi dear
nothing news about root and that same answare when i ask gearbest about futur root.
so sad

If I get my hands on one of these devices, I will create a easy root solution for you guys. In the meantime, be weary of trying KingoRoot or KingRoot. One of them has the potential to brick your device

Tanix TX3 Pro firmware is rooted with Superuser. Can you extract the files from this firmware img, replace Superuser with SuperSU and make an installer zip from those files? Maybe it's more complicated than that, I'm not up to speed on how it all works yet.
Bingo Bronson did some digging and found that "the SU daemon service is baked into the boot.img and they placed binaries in 'bin' & 'xbin'". Maybe you guys can put your heads together and come up with something?

I'll try it tonight and give you news

No issues at all after using it. However, kingroot will install its own superuser app and I have not been able to replace it with supersu (It should be possible with a custom recovery).
Root works fine without supersu but you could try following these instructions after you root if you want to get rid of king root: http://www.yomitech.com/2015/02/how-to-replace-kinguser-with-supersu.html
I got root failed with king root?!?! edit: I used kingo root and that worked. You know if xposed works on this tablet.

I forgot to mention that I did not allow the software update to run before I used king root. That could be the only difference between the 2 tablets. I won't try Xposed until we at least get a custom recovery

I hope there's some development for this tablet.
Have had mine since release and I love it I own a Nexus7 2013 and it is as fast as that one , it so far has handled all the emulator games I have thrown at it like a champ I have loaded N64 games and some NDS games I got and has played them great. Also I love the fact I was able to add a 64GB micro in for extra storage well worth the 199.00$ price tag!
Got rooted with KingRoot and later replaced with SuperSu
See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61168022&postcount=30
Didn't try Xposed yet, but should work under SuperSu
Give exposed a try and let us know if it works. Thanks
I used King root and it worked just fine...until my son used it and did an update. Now it is bricked. Here's hoping that it becomes popular enough to have its own forum and someone creates a decent ROM for it.
For the price it has good (enough) resolution, color and speed.
Have you tried holding power and volume up for about 10 seconds to get into recovery and do wipe/reset?
I did. I can get into recovery, did wipe and restored factory but nothing. It looks like the files created by kingroot were not compatible with the update.
BTW sent a PM

I temp rooted mine with dirty cow, however it gained me very little. There are three main obstacles: 1) SELinux prevents most things from working, because each program runs within a tight security context, 2) using dirty cow causes the kernel to not save changes to the partition (it doesn't want to write a corrupted partition to disk), in other words a r/w /system is useless, even when you can finally write to it, 3) using dirty cow on the most attractive programs (from a permissions perspective) causes "little" problems like the screen going off.
I've been monitoring another XDA thread (sorry, link is at home) where they are working through these issues on another device. There are various approaches and workarounds, but they currently all involve way more risk than I can justify for a $500 phone.
AIUI, once you've got root, you need to be able to put selinux into permissive mode, but surely getting temp root is a start?
Can you not install systemless root?
If I got the dates right, the phone kernel should be affected by this bug. A proof of concept seemed to be promised by the reporter in the next few days. http://seclists.org/oss-sec/2016/q4/607
Will be interesting to see how it compares to dirty cow as far as access.

Please note that the phone is 64-bit. This is source code that requires compilation and additional code to do anything useful. Prerequisites include the NDK and related build tools installed via Android Studio. I run Linux so it was relatively painless, but I imagine it might be more of a challenge under Windows.

Hi. I know this thread is about the Lenovo Phab2 Pro and I have the Lenovo Phab2 but maybe someone can help me. I tried what was suggested on this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/phab-2/how-to/how-to-root-phab-2-pb2-650y-t3524305 But it seems I screwed up and now the phone gets stuck in the Lenovo sign. I'd really appreciate some help since I just bought this phone 2 days ago and now I can't use it. I can access TWRP but it seems there's nothing in /system. I think maybe that's the problem. I'm no expert but since I had rooted and downgraded and upgraded firmware several times on my previous phone, a LG G3. I thought maybe I could do this. I shouldn't have If someone can help me I'd really appreciate. Thanks in advance.
I was able to fix this. Sorry to have bothered.
Hi,
I've been able to get proper root access on this phone. One new problem I am facing is that the tango camera and sensors doesn't seem to work. Normal camera works just fine.
Is this related to the rooting or can it be anything else entirely?
Edit: Never mind. I was able to fix it without having to remove the root. Apparently 'Tango Core' didn't have permissions to access camera. I am not sure how that got reset. So I gave access to it and now it works just fine.

Seriously, I was thinking that at this price point it would be on here pretty quickly. I can't even get the damn thing into download mode. I get it to the download screen, where it says hit volume up to enter download and power to exit and regardless of what I do it reboots to system. Really frustrating.
Anyone with any luck?

Been looking at this phone as a possible secondary, mess-around-with device since the R1 Plus is a bit too pricy. Would any of you mind giving me the Android version, kernel version, and security update for this phone? A screenshot of the settings screen would do just fine
It would take programming knowledge, but I wonder if we could use a known Linux kernel exploit to get root on this thing, or maybe better yet a bootloader unlock (very unlikely but not impossible)

Thanks for that. This is unfortunately what I was afraid of--although the security patch isn't the newest it's still pretty new. Fortunately it's still a 3.10.X kernel, as there seems to be lots of potential vulnerabilities listed for them on this one CVE website I took a look at before.
Getting root will no doubt be tricky, but I don't think it'll be impossible. I know some people from the other Amazon Prime phone that were able to turn a known vulnerability into an actual exploit, so maybe I can contact them and ask for some help if they're willing. In the meantime of course, we just have to keep our eyes open for anything anyone else comes out with, and of course NOT TAKE ANY ANDROID UPDATES EVER.

Nope, not looking too good here. Wasn't able to reach the others I said I would try to get in touch with. For now just make sure you don't take any firmware updates, and I guess keep trying with apps like KingRoot/Kingo every now and then to see if something eventually works
Hold off on updating firmware guys. May have found something you could use. The article says it's made for the Nexus 6 bootloader but I wonder if it could be ported to other devices?
EDIT: False alarm, looks like its only for Motorola bootloaders (Nexus 6, and MAYBE other things)

Aww, I would've kept it if I were you. They came out with an open source tool that lets you check bootloaders for vulnerabilities. If we got ahold of some firmware files, maybe we couldve found some potential holes in the software to exploit...

I've heen digging through these forums but the threads are kinda confusing. Would anyone have time to walk me through a root process and show me how to obtain whatever os I need to accomplish what I'm trying to do? My biggest concern right now is getting android auto to connect wirelessly to my Kenwood.
I side loaded the apk but, my device still won't connect for audio. Only calls. Which I don't have lol

Long story short.
I picked up this cheap tablet because i want to install it in my car permanently. If it gets stolen it's easily replaceable. It is a SM-T227U

Pretty easy just to root the factory firmware. Using GSI's to change the OS is a bit more reading and work but the fastbootd method isn't too bad.. Here's the link for just rooting it...
[TUTORIAL] How To Unlock & Root Tab A7 Lite T220/T225, & Install LSPosed, Magisk, Mods
While some of these instructions are copied from other sources, I combined all the different things I learned, because no one guide was sufficient, and all needed additional info, so I expanded it all to one place. Part I is partly from...

Should be the same I think. You'll just have to do all of step III since you don't have one of the listed devices. Here's a post from that thread who did it and even posted their patched boot image if you want to use that firmware...

Yeah... I've read that about a few of the cellular equipped ones and of course... particularly Verizon. There seem to be a couple methods to get the toggle to show up but they seem to be pretty wonky. Sorry, but other than reading about a few folks succeeding I can't help with that much.
