I have bought a new Xperia Ray ST18a from Telus (Canada). I have successfully unlocked it using a code, called my voice mail without a problem. Then I downloaded Sony's PC companion to verify if the phone's software was up to date. When the update was finish, I tried to make another call and noticed the "Emergency Calls only. No Sim Card" message.
I used the Sim card in my old phone and it worked. I used another Sim card in my Ray, the 'No Sim card Message' was still there.
I sent the phone to Sony for repair and came back with again the same problem.
Anybody have a clue what is wrong with the phone?
The SIM lock Menu it shows:

It's locked again
They have network locked your phone again. As for the SIM problem, maybe the phone/SIM contacts aren't clean enough. I don't think it's related to the network lock/unlock.

Thanks for the reply.
I have checked the contacts and even applied pressure on them when the phone was restarting. Same results.
How can you tell it's network locked again?
With which code did you unlock?
Does any other SIM card work?
According to the Network value, seems like the SIM-lock is still there...Is the phone branded?

Yes it's a branded phone.
I tried another SIM card from another cell phone and I'm still having the same message.
I bought an unlock code from a unlocking service from the internet.
Learned something yesterday!
Not all cell phones can prevent the insertion of the SIM card the wrong way!
On the Ray you can insert the card the wrong way and you will be able to install the battery and cover perfectly. I have re-inserted the SIM card in the right position and the "No SIM card" message disappeared and was able to unlock it with the same previous code. All is now fine.
I don't mind looking like a foul and hope this thread will help somebody else.
Thank you for trying to help.

You inserted the SIM card in the wrong position? How is that even possible?

Believe it or not
Hi there guys, I got an issue with my moto E after having flashed carbon ROM. Basically it can't read any more my SIM card content.
What this means is that it can feel if the card is inserted or not (through notification bar and alerts when I remove it), but it simply doesn't work. Which includes total lack of signal (and that's not a problem of the area where I live), no contacts or text message threads, nor even it prompts me for pin on startup. I know it can't be the SIM because it's working on other devices, and my friends' SIMs work on mine.
Also apparently my external SD card seems that got corrupted, as I can't read it even on my laptop any more.
All the rooting process went down quite smoothly, and the problem came only just after I've flashed the Carbon ROM (if it matters, I actually flashed the ROM first, and then Gapps in a second moment).
I tried to flash other ROMs and even the stock ROM (without reinstalling the original recovery and locking the bootloader back though), with the hope to set things back right, but so far no luck.
I've found this thread though, where it mentions that Efs files might be corrupted
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/help/reading-sim-card-flashing-rom-t1342770
but what are they exactly?
Might it be a kernel related issue? Would I be able to solve it flashing a new kernel?
I'm not an expert in this kind of stuff, hence every help is appreciated.
ok i will help you please answer my questions
type *#06# and check if you can see imei
Hi mate, sorry I didn't reply immediately, I've been caught in other commitments. I will be here at the computer the rest of the day.

Download phone testing app from play store and see the network mode and set it to wcdma preferred may be you don't have 3G connectivity and its forcing to use 3G and you're not able to get signal

I've just done that, but, according to the app, the phone is in "WCDMA preferred" already. The thing is that it's not just the connectivity... but all the functions related to the SIM card (PIN, contacts, text messages threads) aren't working... And yet it detects if the SIM card (which works on other devices) is inserted or not.

No SIM can work on that device, but they do on others.
Actually I've just bought another Moto E, as I've bricked that one trying to revert it to the original setting, flashing a Stock ROM.
I've proceeded again with the whole process of flashing the same Carbon ROM (this time after the due nandroid backup), and then again, everything it's working, except for the SIM card. I'm thinking that there's something wrong with it, I'd really like to know if there are any other Moto E users with the same issue with this ROM. Actually, browsing forums around, it appears that this issue happens several time while flashing, but noone seems to know why..
That's a pity though, I'd really enjoy try out different custom ROMs on this device.
Ehy... could it be that the ROM I've flashed was intended for single sim devices only, why I have a double SIM Moto E?
That might explain why, although everything seems to work, the system doesn't enable the SIM functions.
Is there some ROM fan/developer who can actually confirm that, and also indicate me a custom ROM which supports double SIM, if any?
By the way, I managed to get back to the rooted stock rom with my last device, the first one is still there booting. Always do that goddam nandroid backup guys...

The two variants were released in different regions so the custom ROM for single SIM might have different baseband than devices in your region.
Either flash the baseband for your region, if available or else flash a compatible ROM.
OK neo.ank, I'll give it a try.
i have the same problem too.
i was using the cm11, but don't recognize my headphones
them i get back with the stock rom but now i can't do phone calls cuz the phone can't fiund my SIM card
hi friend i have a motorola xt1022 bricked and flash con custom rom, after flash not read sim or not sim any solution for it thk
Hi same problem... not *#06# is not giving IMEI number
IMEI 1: null
IMEI 2: null
Yeah it may be a problem with ROM !
So check if your sims work on other ROM
I also got same issue. Do you had luck in solving your problem ?

imei number can be seen when checked using phone tester app it shows ip disconnected in telephony section what can we do now:cryingroblem is frequently like 8hrs to 1day its there and 2 days it isnt and problem started last week happened 3-4 times already. i recently got my defective battery changed
IMEI null.
What to do next?
plzz help
dear seniors, believe me i've tried to search for awhile for a solution and posts with similar problem, but unfortunately i coundlnt find it.
so here's the deal,
i am in indonesia, for some reason certain certain xiaomi devices that is sold in here is bootloader locked and 4G LTE BLOCKED.
unsatisfied with the condition i tried to find a solution for that and yes, the answer is there.
after fooling around for a few days (official unlock request and granted, rom flashing, and custom recovery flashing), i managed to somehow break the device (baseband "unknown", and IMEI missing for both sim slots). Tried to find a solution (yes, there was a solution to this), but before executing the solution, because it seems it can only recover IMEI in sim slot 1, i tried to flashback the rom with the original official rom (global stable 8.0.5.0) and the problem was fixed, both IMEI EXISTED.
so i assume the problem was gone, kept using it for few days with only 1 sim card, everything was fine, but then i tried to use 2 sim cards at the same time, and there it goes like this :
- when i use both sim slots, both sim card keeps restarting to find a signal, its like they cannot get a hold on a stable signal.
- when i use only sim 1, but sim 2 is used for SD card, everything is good.
- when i use only sim 2, but sim 1 is empty, the problem persisted, the signal keeps on restarting.
by those conditions i assume the problem is in sim card slot 2.
I noticed this redmi note 3 only have 1 IMEI number for both simcards, but i dont think that is the problem, because i checked other redmi note 3 phone, they dont have this problem (they also havent tried to unlocked BL, flash roms, etc) and i also tried to write the IMEI 2 SIM and changed the last number, so the IMEI on sim 1 and sim 2 is different by the last number, but still the problem persisted.
i really hope any one here will be kind enough to help me with this problem.
REDMI NOTE 3 PRO SNAPDRAGON, OFFICIAL FIRMWARE V8.0.5.0 LHOMIDG.
THX A BUNCH
Not having solution..best bet to read the threads about EFS recovery.
But a question, why have you posted to wrong section? This is Guide section and not Q&A

Hello Win'ners
Please I have this Samsung Win i8558 I got from a friend and would like to use my both lines in it (Not actually as a smartphone as I already have a Note 4) Runs on 4.2.2 but here is the problem I have with the device!
If I insert one SIM card in either slots... It reads and gets signal for the Network SIM. (either Sim1 or Sim2)
But if I slot both SIMs in both slots... It would give a "No sim card" error even when it would shows the SIM Network names under "SIM Card Manager" in settings but would not detect signal.
So I put in one SIM in sim1 and checked the IMEI via *#06# and it came up. I put in one SIM in Sim2 and checked the IMEI and found out both slots uses the same IMEI number.
If I mount both SIMs at same time and check the IMEI , it would give "Null/Null"
Any help on how to solve this problem as I have 2 network SIMs I want to use on it.
Thanks.
SOLVED
I solved the issue by flashing a later build via Odin!
Now I need root!
A time ago I used two SIMs on my phone and they worked well.
Now that I tried again, the SIM 2 don't have service and if I change position of the SIMs then the SIM that was on port 1 stops working and the other works...
SIM 2 is recognized but no signal on it.
Any help..?

Sounds like a problem I'm facing. I had a ANE-LX1 single sim and I successfully flashed the dual sim oeminfo and dual sim rom, now I get dual sim working only when a specific sim is set as the main one (the one set for data traffic). Is it your situation?
I'm going to root the phone again to check if some update messed with the oeminfo, then I will try to force flash another dual sim rom to see if it helps...
Same problem here - currently running latest firmware available 9.1.0.257 (C432E6R1P7). Can`t force the phone to work on both cards at the same time. Works only the one set as data card.
TIA for any ideas
