Virtual keyboard not disappearing - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I bet that I'm not the only one who has that problem and I could bet that there is somewhere already a thread about it but all I can find (here and in generall over google) is the opposite case (keyboard disappearing when it shouldn't) or tips for developers to let a keyboard disappear when the user taps on an empty space, so I already appologize but I just can't find any solution.
I have this problem for a few years now, with Googles keyboard, Swiftkey and sometimes Swype. I have it now on my Galaxy Note 4 running stock TW, I had it on my G2 (at least in ParanoidAndroid and SlimROM but I think already in stock LG ROM) and I could even bet that I had it also on my Nexus 4, so that's why I'm asking in the general android forum for help.
Sometimes, I just can't close the keyboard when I don't need it anymore. Pressing back, home or recent apps or opening the notification shade (which should be in the foreground of all for all I know) the keyboard just stays where it is. It isn't frozen, I can still use it. But it really likes to hide buttons I would need e.g. to send the text I just wrote or the buttons in the power menu so I could only press "trun off" but not "reboot" to get rid of it. I even have my back key as "kill foreground app" when double tapping on it, but it kills everything but the keyboard. It takes time and constantly pressing the different navigation keys to finally close the keyboard.
I think you can imagine how annoying that is and I'm really sick of it. It happens randomly so it's not really possible to record any log, it might be possible that XPosed could be the reason for that but I think I already had that problem already befor I installed it the first time but I'm not sure.
Does annyone has that problem too and knows how to handle it?

[Q] Viper 2.1.1 - hidden apps randomly reappear / no cursor keys on HTC soft-keyboard

Hi there,
actually almost since the beginning with Viper 2.1.1 I have a few very strange annoyances:
1) when I hide a few apps inside the app-drawer they seem to be hidden first ... but after a while (not even a reboot needed) a couple of those randomly reappear in the app-drawer instead of staying hidden. the reappearing apps not even needed to be started inbetween. some stay hidden, but at least half of them just keep popping back <- i use the "hide app" feature to clean my drawer from those apps that i put on my homescreens separately already.
2) somewhere in the Viper settings there was the option to enable/disable the arrow-keys on the std onscreen keyboard. it just doesn't seem to have any persistant effect for me?! - neither enabled or disabled ... in 90% of all apps (needing keyboard input) the arrow keys are just NOT there even when enabled. only a very few apps like the build-in webbrowser seem to allow the cursor keys to be seen.
thanks for your help :fingers-crossed:
... not even anyone any idea on this?
sry to bump ... but no one any ideas on this?
I too am wondering about the arrow keys not showing up in anything other than stock apps like Internet, Messaging, etc. I don't remember if they showed up in other apps when I was stock. It would be nice to have since I tend to use them a lot when they are available.
For the un-hiding apps in the app drawer, I don't think I've experienced that. I just hid a few then rebooted, they were all still hidden. I will keep an eye on it to see if they unhide. I am on the latest version, Viper 2.2.0.
Do you ever get random reboots?
thanks for checking ... random reebots? i don't think so ... appart maybe from 2 unexpected ones in 2 months or so
They are all still hidden after a day. You could try flashing 2.2.0.
might depend also on other factors. i have like 100 apps installed xD ... and 60'ish hidden (as they are in folders on the different home-screens) ... so i prefer to have them hidden in the drawer. as for viper2.20 ... it needs a _full wipe_ and that's more hassle then i'm currently intending to spend so i'm gonna wait for the next big update with JB i think (or the Infernal+ maybe, if they get the cam working).

[Q] Catlog analysis

Hello guys, first some informations:
Device: Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300
Rom: Carbon-rom nightly 21.10.2013 (Android 4.3.1)
Kernel: Boeffla CM 2.0-beta2
Launcher: Aviate
Keyboard: SwiftKey
Main problem:
Launcher seems to be restarting by clicking home button sometimes(Loading very slowly), even tested with sslauncher and its feature "keep in memory".
So thats not the bad part, the bad part for me is that Hardware buttons(back and menu) sometimes just dont work, i can feel the vibration and LEDs are lighting but nothing happens. This happens most in apps like Google Chrome, Whatsapp+, Galerie and a couple of other applications. I recognized that while there are no action by clicking this button in the application, there is an action when drop down menu is dropped down and clicking the back-button make the drop down menu disappear, but in the current application still nothing happens.
Besides that sometimes Keyboard just disappears and it takes about several seconds up to 1 minute to appear again, mostly i disappears a couple of times in the same minute. This happens in almost all applications when i want to use the keyboard, Whatsapp+, Google Chrome, Email, Gmail, SMS...
First i was ProBAM rom user, when it happens there i thought it was rom related, so i had contact with the developer and he said it is CM related but should be fixed in next version, but it didnt.
Now i am on Carbon-rom and have the same thing.. I tried different combinations off apps and settings like Standard-kernel in rom, sslauncher, Trebuchet launcher, Standard-rom launcher, Android keyboard Standard-rom keyboard,,, but its always the same.
So since i am not able to use the phone "normal" i decided to create a thread, i dont want to go back to Android 4.2 so i hope someone can help me with this.
I have six catlog-logs, the first four attached here are from ProBAM rom and the last two(and the newest two) linked from dropbox from Carbon-rom nightly built 21.10.20103, may someone can take a look into it and find if something is wrong...

In the very last logcat(2013-10-21-21-28-04.txt from dropbox) i had massive problems with keyboard and hardware keys, i hope you can see it in there.
Best regards and thanks so far for help

[Q] KK 4.4.2 Help PLEASE - DISABLE "SWIPE UP" gesture

This is by far THE most annoying thing I have ever seen forced upon smartphone users, and is actually about to result in me returning an otherwise great phone. Judging from other comments, I am obviously not the only one having this issue, but I have yet to find any good resolution, aside from taking hostages at Google.....
Without fail, when I am scrolling through webpages, e-mails, within apps, whatever, that damned Google half-circle pops up when I stupidly scroll from the bottom of my screen. What an idiot I am. The LG "quickmemo" icon is on the right side of the half-circle, Google search on the left. Being right handed, I am continuously scrolling across the quickmemo icon, which results in me having to hit the back button twice, once to get rid of the red line it drew across my screen, then again to get out of the quickmemo app. I have disabled Google Now in "Settings" to no avail.
I have tried 2 apps from Google Play, "Swipe Launch Disabler" which will not work evidently because my phone has a physical HOME button (no idea why this is the case other than the developer telling me so), and "SwipeUp Utility" which so far will not work either to "do nothing" as the options offer.
My LG L39C did not have this God-awful POS feature and is likely going back into service. Google of course could not care less about what users want or their ability to determine for themselves what to disable or not. I have never even considered switching to iPhones until now, but if this is going to be forced upon Android users from here forward it's a no-brainer for me.
Can anyone tell me how to AT LEAST DISABLE QUICKMEMO COMPLETELY? I shouldn't have to root this [email protected] thing to make it usable and have no intention of doing so.
Any help will get you included in my will.......

Help with app taking over lockscreen???

Yesterday for the first time I got a strange new lock screen I don't remember installing.... When my phone (Nexus 6) is plugged in, and I wake it up, at first I get my regular stock lock screen. But, when I unlock it, this new strange lock screen appears in its place (the first image - which says at the top "0 Words typed today" and "1% beat global users.") When I tap the three-dot menu in the top right, I get the second screen (says "Boost Charge" and gives me option to uncheck.)
Does anyone recognize this? I guess it's possible it's malware of some kind but I am generally pretty careful. It seems like typing stats, but I only have google keyboard, swiftkey and touchpal installed, and none of those seem to be causing this as far as I can tell.
I would like to avoid a factory reset if I can help it, but I don't like the idea of something I didn't choose being on my phone..... Any help as to how this got here?
Same thing happened to me.
Found out it's SwiftKey. Wasn't even using it, so I just uninstalled it.

I've got the exact same thing. Annoying as hell. Don't have SwiftKey installed. Mine I believe is coming from TouchPal.
I got this to stop without uninstalling TouchPal. In TouchPal settings, go into General Settings and disable Daily Summary, which causes another annoying pop-up screen once a day. Then click on Power Boost and disable that. Exit, exit, exit.
I think the Power Boost, um, feature? is causing those random pop-ups.
Hope this helps somebody else. The keyboard itself is pretty good, so I'm sure some people won't want to uninstall it.

Yep, it's TouchPal. I found the Boost Charge one, but hadn't noticed the separate Daily Summary setting-thanks for the heads up.

BT keyboard, disabling annoying shift + space shortcut?

I've been googling and cruising a number of forums, surely there must be a logical way to get rid of this annoying thing. I am unrooted, locked BL. I have a BT keyboard. Swiftkey installed as system app by default, and I have gboard installed, too. I have an annoying keyboard shortcut of space + shift that brings up the Select input method screen. Seems it's an annoying problem, but without root no easy way to fix?
I disabled swiftkey, and I see the keyboard shortcut helper lists the shift + space shortcut, but there's no way to disable or change it to something else.
Has anyone else with a BT keyboard encountered and solved this? Maybe it's my ebay keyboard and some brief lag that interprets capital letters as my sending the space + shift shortcut. It's nearly impossible to take notes with this thing because the input menu pops up every 10 seconds or so. I'll be travelling to the mainland later this week and would love to find a way to fix this because I want to use the tablet and keyboard to take notes at a conference.
Thank you very much for any help you may have. I thought every answer was on google, but this one is not popping up....
