So Does Remix OS Still Work On Virtual-BOX? - Remix OS for PC

I haven't paid attention in Remix OS in a while but since I notice that the program got better over time I want to re-try Remix OS but on V-Box. -- I did try it on V-Box but I was very unsuccessful in getting it to work. The reason I would like to try it out on V-Box because it gives me an idea on what I can do or not. Before I install it on my very old laptop. So my question is can Remix OS now work on V-Box? -- What I mean is work on Residential mode not Guest mode. Since before it was always on Guest mode.

For Remix OS version 2.0.403 you can use post "Remix OS on hard drive or virtual machine", especially 5. Installation of Remix OS on Hard Disk or within a Virtual Machine.
Today I could not start version 3.0.101 using INSTALL=1 on a hard disk. So I guess that at the moment version 3.0.101 is not suitable for Virtualbox.

I was able to get it working on V-Box is just that it won't allow me to install or update apps on the Google Play Store.

I just installed Remix OS 3.0.101 32bit on Virtualbox successfully using this method. After enabling the Google Play Store within the Debug Terminal Console I could sign on to Google and install an app. Everything was quite slow, but it worked.

There are so many different instructions on how to install Remix on VB. While the instructions above will get it installed, the Play store won't work correctly. The only instructions I've found that CORRECTLY install Remix and have a working Play store are these here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66047894&postcount=114
If you follow those exactly, you'll have a good working Remix install in VB.

thanks. I just used this method, and it works like a charm.
btw: the post mentioned up to 30 minutes boot-time....my boot is very fast (below 1 minute)
there should be a fixed post with the key-points there are to make this work, which are:
1) preformat/partition the virtual HD (is the swap partition realy needed?)
2) add "INSTALL=1 DEBUG=" to Kernel parameters

3.0 doesn't appear to work in Hyper-V / Windows 10 Pro. It just spins forever at the RemixOS logo fading in and out.

Probably is a hardware compatibility issue. For example: I can boot Remix, without any problems, on my wife Acer laptop (Intel machine), but cannot on my Toshiba UFO (AMD machine). I try all possible methods for booting and installing, but without succses (editing GRUB kernel line with various parameters, resident - guest, installing on hdd on fat32, ext4 3 2, ntfs, installing as a copy/paste than adding entry to my GRUB, installing via Remix's installer than adding entry to my GRUB,...) I always got endless bootloop, just as you. Remix is alpha yet.

Actual things needed.
1. Extracted .iso file
2. *Unix bootloader that runs on your device and can identify the extraction folder
3. Hope that at least your cpu/gpu are supported
Things like EasyBCD are ways of simplifying #2

Yeah I know that, my previous post was little sarcastic because of many people equals PC with Windows PC. I think a computer which runing Linux, is PC also. In that case you should to add Remix OS custom entry in /etc/grub.d/40_custom, because os-prober don't recognize Remix, Android x86 and similar. Sorry cause off topic :highfive:

I Cant install or Run Remix OS 2 BETA on my PC!!!

Hello everyone,
I am having trouble with the new version of Remix OS 2 Beta.
I am running a 64 bit machine, and downloaded the correct version. I used the installation tool (not the original usb tool, but the one that allows you to install to the C drive) and it appeared that everything was installed correctly "BUT". When i boot i get the two options (Windows 10, Remix OS). I choose the Remix OS option, and it gives me an error (remixos/kernel error). So, i did some research and it says that the os might not recognize that i have a 64 bit machine. I then proceeded with the same installation but 32 bit this time since it should allow me to use that version if i have a 64 bit machine right? It allows me to boot, but then stays in limbo on the ASUS boot screen until i restart. any suggestions.
Have the same exact issue. Are you booting with legacy or efi

Run it off the USB. When option comes for resident or guest hit tab and add to the line (or e for edit) INSTALL=1
I have a 64 bit machine and it installed fine. I don't think I had to change any setting from the installer. Wouldn't work with the alpha but the beta installed and booted right up. When it was installing there was like an 8 minute timeframe where it seemed it wasn't doing anything and my monitor (an hd tv) was getting no signal but I just let it keep running and finally it came back on and it booted right up. I installed to the harddrive also btw.
Thank you all for your feed back. I will try some of your suggestions in the morning. I didn't think I would get a response this fast haha. Thanks again for now.

I tried both ways and and with efi just got the kernel issue. It seems that everything installed correctly but when I choose remix OS it tries to boot and I get the remixos/kernel error
This sounds exactly the same issue than I have with Dell Venue 11 pro (7140). It has Windows 10 installed and secure boot is disabled in BIOS. I can select Remix OS in boot menu but then the following errors are displayed Remix OS doesn't start:
error: 'ntfs' is already loaded.
error: 'exfat' is already loaded.
error: no such device: /RemixOS/kernel.
error: file '/RemixOS/kernel' not found.
error: you need to load the kernel first.

Yes this is my issue exactly. I hope this is only a minor bug, because I realise we are still in beta and all devices won't work the same. Please is there anyone who can help us with this???

If you would share some info with us, we might be able to provide a fix :
In Windows, open Run dialog. (Windows key pressed + r)
Type msinfo32 and enter.
You'll see a lot of information, please list the following :
1. System type
2. Processor
3. Bios mode
4. Platform Role
5. Secure boot state
6. Installed Physical Memory (Ram)
7. Total Physical Memory.
Also tell which version of beta you used. 32-bit or 64-bit?

1. X86-based PC
2. Atom CPU Z3736F
3. UEFI
4. Mobil
5. Off
6. 2GB
7. 1.93GB
I used 64-bit BETA

You have as 64-bit capable CPU, as detailed on http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Atom-Z3736F-Tablet-SoC.122214.0.html
So 64-bit beta should work for you. Don't know why 32-bit UEFI systems have this issue.
However I'll inform you as soon as I update my Grub2Win guide.

Does remix place nice with windows 7

I couldn't tell from the cryptic instructions whether I would end up with a conventional dual boot arrangement if I install remix on my windows 7 hp pro x2 612 touchscreen laptop. I don't want to lose the windows 7. I downloaded what I think is the most recent version Remix_OS_for_PC_Android_M_64bit_B2016101201. Also can I burn the iso to a disc (not usb drive) and use the included windows installer. Will remix boot from the disc so I can check it out on my pc before installing it?
Does remix allow installing conventional linux applications such as full libreoffice or is it limited to google play offerings. Is there a guide anywhere to side loading whatever is needed to get the google play store working. Appreciate any help with all these questions. Thanks so much
@spb37
Installing using the official installer will not do any harm to the Windows 7 installation. If you chose to install on the same partition as Windows, it will be placed in a separate folder and a boot menuentry will be added.
So, yes, you end up with a conventional dual boot arrangement
Remix OS .iso was not designed to work on disc mediums so I do not recommend to try and boot from a disc.
Instead, better use a USB storage Device to test Remix out.
Remix OS is a fork of Android-x86 project (coming from AOSP) so it doesn't have a Linux GUI packages installer. You won't be able to install LibreOffice on it.
Play Store comes pre-installed as long as you select the respective option during first boot.
It depend
i've create one partition and install with INSTALL=1
taking grub not grub 2 saying add one instruction for choose os remix or Windows 7 at the starting up (it had work perfectly with the pc of my friend but not with mine .

"Installation Failed" error from Remix install tool on MSI Windows 8.1 PC.

OS: Windows 8.1 Pro 64 Bit
Motherboard: MSI Z97-X-Power AC
BIOS: UEFI
Secure Boot: OFF
Remix OS ISO: Remix_OS_for_PC_Android_M_64bit_B2016101201
Remix OS install tool: Remix_OS_for_PC_Installation_Tool-B2016080802
I am having trouble installing Remix OS on my MSI PC.
Every time I attempt to install Remix OS on my PC using the install tool, it ends with "Installation Failed" error. The install tool seems to successfully copy files to the specified partition. But the problem seems to occur when it attempts to install the bootloader.
I mounted the boot partition & checked it. In all my attempts at running the install tool, it never adds anything to the boot drive.
Please note, I am using a fresh installation of Windows 8.1. There are no security programs installed. Windows Defender is disabled. I have attempted installation using the built-in Administrator account, so there should be no permissions issues.
Can anyone tell me how to manually add the GRUB bootloader manually? I want to achieve what I have with my laptop (GRUB displaying "Windows/Remix OS"...and then Windows Boot Manager loads).

same for me on my windows qp chinese tablet. Any workaround yet?
I had the same problem. I solved it by doing the following.
First, i tried installing some "Remix OS for PC Hacked Edition", and to my surprise, it worked. The OS boot selection, and the OS both worked well.
Then, I tried installing the original Remix OS again, with the normal method, I selected not to delete my data, and there was no error this time. I'm using it right now
