I downloaded the twrp .img from the official website and flashed it using 'fastboot flash recovery twrp.img' and everything was shown Okay in cmd. Then I did 'fastboot reboot' and then after phone rebooted I went to recovery mode using volume up and power button but there was no TWRP there, only stock recovery was there. What went wrong? I flashed many times but same result
I had the same result like yours several weeks ago. And finally choose another method to install TWRP. Try below thread , it is easier.
http://en.miui.com/thread-296053-1-1.html
Your stock rom is replacing stock recovery every time you boot it.
TWRP needs a modified boot image flashed to make it permanent when used with official roms.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/red...official-twrp-3-0-2-0-recovery-redmi-t3352966
If you don't have the modified boot, make sure to boot into TWRP first after flashing it.
Handy way to get TWRP booted is to temporarily boot it using "fastboot boot <name of twrp.img>"
Once booted this way, use it to flash the TWRP image, then reboot into TWRP recovery you just flashed.
Once I had that done, after making a backup, I flashed a custom rom (xiaomi.eu) and TWRP remained permanent for me.
If your wanting to stay on an official rom, see this thread which has an Universal Boot Img Patcher.

2. DO NOT install the official, unmodified TWRP...
select a TWRP from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/how-to/guide-redmi-note-3-available-twrps-t3406708
I Used the cofface TWRP
3. COPY Twrp.img to internal storage.....
fastboot boot TWRP.img
4. TWRP boots automatically... Press the button on Right to change device language....
Swipe right to allow modifications
5. Go to install... > flash Image. select TWRP.img
tap on reboot.... somewhere there, you will be asked to
1. install SuperSU
2. prevent phone from reverting to original recovery...
Swipe right on both.
Cheers!
When you do the "fastboot reboot" command, you should right away , press the volume + and power buttons together, so the phone boots into TWRP and not into the system. If you just execute the command and let it go , the stock recovery overwrites TWRP.
after entering "fastboot flash recovery twrp.IMG" don't reboot and don't entre "fastboot reboot"....you have to directly press power + vol up...you will able to boot into twrp

RN3P Kenzo, ROM is Global Dev 6.8.18.
I unlocked the bootloader officially (using the code and the MiFlashUnlock tool). I then used ADB to flash Cofface TWRP which did not work. These are the steps I used:
First I booted into fastboot.
Then I did this in Minimal ADB 'fastboot flash recovery twrp.img'.
The message was
sending 'recovery'
OKAY
writing 'recovery'
OKAY
finished.
Next I did 'fastboot reboot'.
Then I tried to get into TWRP recovery using the MIUI update app. Didn't work. Any help? Thanks in advance.

Try this, "fastboot boot twrp.img" NOT fastboot flash boot, just "fastboot boot twrp.img"

OK. It boots into TWRP. But my question is, will I have to use "fastboot boot twrp.img" every time to boot into TWRP? That would be a hassle, but if that's the only way, I'll just deal with it.
Thanks though, it was nice to know the recovery image was working.

No. You dont need to fastboot everytime. As you once booted into TWRP from "fastboot boot twrp.img" your recovery is perminantly TWRP. You can boot into by pressing the key combination or from the updater app..
Happy Flashing
Try fastboot reboot recovery but if not boot into recovery don't boot into system and reboot recovery via key combination. If you reboot system stock recovery erase twrp.
Note many devices will replace your custom recovery automatically during first boot. To prevent this, use Google to find the proper key combo to enter recovery. After typing fastboot reboot, hold the key combo and boot to TWRP. Once TWRP is booted, TWRP will patch the stock ROM to prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP. If you don't follow this step, you will have to repeat the install.

"fastboot reboot" hold volume up until you see mi logo
Wipe:
/data
Then flash:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/how-to/modified-twrp-deleting-emmcappsboot-t3371667
@Up disables dm-verity and encryption on /data partition[that's why we wipe it inorder to format it].

B) Prevent TWRP From Getting Over-written
After the TWRP gets flashed, disconnect the cable from the phone.
Hold power button + volume up buttons till phone gets restarted.
When the Mi Logo shows up, release the power button & keep holding the volume up button.
Release the Volume Up button after TWRP logo shows up.
If the language is in Chinese, select the right box, & select English.
Check the box & swipe to allow modifications.
it worked for me
Hey!
I Have a Kate running latest global developer that i unlocked officially through the mi unlock program.
I have been trying to install TWRP ( unoffical twrp, Alka, coffee) through ADB ( fastboot flash recovery twrp.img) for some days now but i wont work!!
ADB dont displays any errors and says everything finished but when i try to boot to recovery it's still stock xiaomi recovery??
What might be the problem and how do i fix it?
BTW, adb reports that the phone is unlocked (fastboot oem device-info).
Are you trying to boot TWRP straight after flashing it. If your booting the official rom first, then that is restoring stock recovery.
After flashing TWRP, manually boot the device with Vol + and Power button.
Alternatively boot TWRP with "fastboot boot <twrp.img>" and from TWRP reboot to recovery again so you actually boot the version on the device.
the newest dev rom has "feature" to revert your recovery back to stock when you boot the OS. so be prepared. after you flash your twrp, immediately boot to TWRP and wipe /system to install other OS.

THANKS! That was the problem. Now everything works.
Cross-post from here
I have a frustrating issue.
After booting into fastboot mode, I type the following commands where recovery.img is the TWRP mido image. I also have lazyflasher and SuperSU on my SD card, but onto that later...
I type :
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot boot recovery.img
The phone boots into TWRP perfectly. I then flash the lazyflasher zip file. However when I try to boot back into recovery, the Mi logo briefly appears, then nothing... black screen.
So at the moment, I don't care about what is on internal storage. I went to wipe-->format data, then rebooted straight into bootloader to try and flash TWRP again. However this also gives me a black screen when I try and boot into recovery after installing Lazyflasher. I tried again, however I also flashed SuperSU immediately after lazyflasher. Rebooting into recovery from TWRP gives me a black screen again.
Should I perhaps try to flash a custom kernel? I am lost for other solutions.
TLDR: TWRP unsuccessful after: fastboot flash recovery, then fastboot boot recovery.img, then flashing lazyflasher, followed by flashing SuperSU, then choosing Reboot-->Recovery.

Also, once just flash lazyflasher.zip /super su from twrp > next reboot into system from twrp! Do not choose reboot to recovery for the first time. Boot to system..
Okay guys, I have found the solution, although I would still like to know WHY this happened!
I used fastboot + Xiaomi Flash Tool to flash the latest stable ROM. I then enabled USB Debugging, and did all the same steps which resulted in being able to boot into recovery normally! I didn't flash lazyflasher this time because I flashed SuperSU instead, apparently it patches the dm-verity thing too. This was a suggestion from this post
How can I lock the phone back after unlocking bootloader, rooting, installing Xposed?
Wipe installed custom ROM (System+data+cache+dalvik).
**Internal storage optional (You may have to flash TWRP again though).
Install MIUI recovery ROM pack through TWRP. Run MIUI initial setup. Reboot to fastboot and flash stock recovery, you can find stock recovery in MIUI forums. After that check for successful flash and successful system boot. Only then run the fastboot command to lock the bootloader :
fastboot oem lock
**Do not lock with TWRP. You'll hard brick your phone
***After flashing MIUI in TWRP flash lazyflasher or your device will be stuck
If you don't understand the complications in this method please ignore it, am sure there are some easier ways using MiFlash. Check MIUI forum for relocking and recovering to MIUI. If you wanna come back to the world of custom ROMs and Mods XDA is the place.

Thank You
BTW If you have the time could you write this more in steps like for a noob. If not it still kicks a$$ and thanks for reply
First you need to get rid of your current ROM and it's data. For that boot into TWRP and select wipe, in the list of partitions displayed select :
•System
•Data
•Cache
•Dalvikand confirm wipe. This step removes the ROM and data associated with it. Now the only thing you can access is TWRP and fastboot.
Also during wipe you can also select to wipe Internal Storage partition but after you do this you may lose TWRP also at the next boot. Now your phone can only boot into fastboot mode. So if you did wipe your internal storage also flash TWRP again from fastboot. If you ask how..:
•Download TWRP recovery from here
•Copy the downloaded file to any folder on your PC.
•Install ADB and fastboot drivers on your PC if you haven't.
•Reboot phone into fastboot mode(Power + Volume down) and connect to PC.
•Go to folder where your placed the TWRP image file.
•Open command prompt in that folder (Shift+right click mouse, open command window here)
•Type the following commands without the quotes :
" fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.2.1-0-mido.IMG "
•Now try rebooting into TWRP (Power + Volume Up). If you followed the steps right you should be able to.Remember this step is only if you decide to wipe internal storage also else it is completely not necessary.
OK now that you are left with a phone that only has TWRP we need a ROM to boot into, in your case you want a MIUI ROM. Download latest stable MIUI recovery ROM pack from MIUI website or just google if your having trouble finding it. For MIUI ROMs to successfully boot on a custom recovery you need to flash an additional zip called lazyflasher else your phone will be stuck at the MI logo. I'll attach the zip below. Okay so now since you have the required files copy them to your phone's internal storage.
Boot into TWRP and install the MIUI ROM zip first and the Lazyflasher zip after that. Reboot into system and phone should enter MIUI initial setup in some minutes(be patient MIUI initial boot can be long). Finish the setup.
Now you need to flash the latest stock recovery of your phone. I don't have it with me now so a simple google search will do the work. The procedure for flashing the recovery is the same as flashing TWRP which I have mentioned above. The only change you have do in the fastboot command line is the file name of your stock recovery.
After flashing check for successful boot, only then proceed with the relocking procedure as follows:
•Boot phone into fastboot mode
•Connect to PC
•Open Command prompt
•Type this fastboot command without the quotes :
" fastboot oem lock"•Once done reboot your phone.
Now you must have a relocked phone.
**Never relock your phone with any custom mods like custom recovery, custom ROM or even a MIUI which is rooted. Also be on 100% stock configuration before relocking device. Failing to do so will result in a hard brick.

Hello I'm stuck at fastboot loop with my Mi A3 after flashing TWRP
Here is what I did:
1. unlocked bootloader
2. downloaded TWRP from here: dl. twrp. me/ laurel_sprout/twrp-3.3.1-0-laurel_sprout.img.html (cant post links, sorry)
3. installed it with fastboot flash boot twrp-3.3.1-0-laurel_sprout.img
After that the reboot is always goes into fastboot
I found the advice to change the partition - it was B and I set it to A and it could load the stock recovery, so I tried to flash TWRP again and it went to Fastboot loop again, on both partitions. No I don't know what to do.
command 'fastboot devices' - shows the device.
but I cannot boot into recovery, I tried holding power and volume up buttons many times, it always boots into Fastboot (screen with bunny and robot)
Please help!

Flash the boot.img of your current firmware version in twrp to both slots and flash twrp installer.zip afterwards then reboot. Now you will be able to boot as normal and have twrp installed also
