Hi all,
I'm considering getting a Redmi Note 3 (Snapdragon version/Pro). I'm a little confused about the bands that it supports. When I check wellmyphonework.net it says that the Global model will work on LTE Band 4, but the China/Unicom one will not. Looking in the forums I see Global and China Roms, but nothing definitive about separate physical models.
Is the hardware all the same(ignoring RAM/Storage variations)? Do the supported bands depend solely on which ROM is installed? If there are distinct hardware versions is there any way to tell which one I would get from ebay or AliExpress?
Thanks in advance.

The lte band support is hardware dependant, software doesn't matter.
I've bought mine with China global and lte is working fine in Europe.

That's simply not true. The SD650 supports Band 4 which is what he's asking about. Europe doesn't use Band 4 and all the versions support European lte bands. On another thread here a user with AT&T was getting lte on the vendor rom and changed to the Global rom and now only gets H+. I too would like to know which version of the phone I have.
Hi again... I went into town, I'm on Virgin which is an EE virtual provider. And the town should be coverd by 4G from EE... So any reason why my phone cant get find LTE?
I get H+ but thats it.

Are you a new or existing virgin mobile user. If existing did you get a new SIM from Virgin? As they need to issue a new one to you if you want to go 4G.

There was also something else I read (virgin user here to - currently non 4G) about having to wait until your next billing cycle until you can begin using 4G services. Annoying and I've seen lots of people complaining as they have to wait to their refresh date which could be anywhere up to a few weeks.
Probably stating the obvious but have you selected the LTE option under (preferred network type) mobile network settings?
Sent from my Redmi Note 4 using Tapatalk
Yep LTE set as preferred
Also I ordered the sim before my last billing date. The sim turned up about a week after the billing date.
Maybe the next billing date?

Possibly yeah, that's the only thing I can think off. Worth it to keep trying the odd reboot or switching in and out of aeroplane mode in case that helps it kick in.

Check what LTE bands Virgin uses and see if the Redmi Note 4 is compatible with said bands. I'm on T-Mobile and the Note 4 does not support it's LTE.

They use EE's, who use bands *3(1800) and 7(2600), so definitely compatible.

Have u checked to use another provider?
i have a similar issue, not all providers that have these bands listed use them in all locations, i am with Rogers in canada who does have band 7, which this phone has, but they only have it in certain areas, not the full coverage, so i sit on 3g a lot.
Check this site, i shows that your provider also has limited coverage on the available bands. willmyphonework.net
I have the same issue. I'm with Three and it keeps dropping to H+ far too regularly.
Had this sim for a while and worked perfectly well on my Jiayu S3.

It happens to me. What I found from google, it said Note 4 Hardware supports Band 4 and Band 7, but the miui 8 locks them.
Still looking for a way to open those bands.

Band 7 should be supported and usable but I doubt the hardware supports band 4.
You should have gotten the Redmi Note 3 instead, the Chinese version supports band 4, 7 and 40 out of the bands used in Canada, and the Special Edition ("international version") supports bands 2, 4, 7 and 40. The Chinese model also supports 3G on band 4 (1700/AWS).

FIDO does not support band 7 too, (even though some sites said Fido supports band 7)
My friend is using Bell, his phone shows 4G instead of 3G.
I have searched on the internet that Redmi Note 4 hardware supports LTE Band 4 and Band 7, but the MIUI 8 itself locks those two bands.
I am located in North America that only those two LTE bands supported. Is there a way to open those two bands ?
at the moment, my phone can only use 3G.
thanks
Do you mean this?
I see band 7 but not band 4.
I had a look in here before too see if any bands were not enabled but there is only the one (AWS 1700)

Yes so band 4 it seems is not enabled by default.
It looks like anything in the table that is greyed out cannot be enabled so I am assuming that it's hardware dependant.
The only band that isn't greyed out & that can be enabled is as I noted before (AWS-1700)
Sorry I forgot that :/

yes, you are right, Note 4 only support following Bands :
FDD-LTE:Band 1 / 3 / 5 / 7 / 8
TDD-LTE:Band 38 / 39 / 40 / 41
Another question, Fido (the carrier here) supports Band 7 , but my phone cannot get the LTE mode, only 3G max . Do I have to enable band 7 manually ?
thanks
My provider uses Band 7, no problems connecting to 4G for me.

I see there are more UMTS bands available than what are enabled.
It's not a possibility to enable LTE Band 20 (800MHz), is it?
Recently ordered one and expected I'd have to live with Band 1 (2100MHz) and Band 3 (1800MHz) here in Norway
If Band 20 is available but just secretly disabled, that'd be very nice.
Checked in the engineer mode. The following bands are enabled by default :
FDD-LTE:Band 1 / 3 / 5 / 7 / 8
TDD-LTE:Band 38 / 39 / 40 / 41
I just enable the AWS 1700 ans Press set, but when I reboot the phone, it goes back to disable ?
Since Redmi Note 4X and Redmi Note SD have the same hardware, can the LTE bands unlocked in Note 4X be unlocked in Note 4 SD as well. Or is it possible to unlock the bands by the process in the Oneplus and Sony sections for Quallcomm devices?
Can you unlock band 2, 12 and/or 17 on global version of the the Redmi Note 4? (the one with band 4 and 20)
My Note 4 SD625 can't enter that engineering mode. But my LTE works fine here in Malaysia. But it's not that fast compared to my LG G4. Is Redmi N4 supports an LTE-A network? I've seen the SD625 specification and it supports advanced LTE, but my N4 aren't fast enough for only 2mb/s over my G4's 5mb/s on actual download speed.
well redmi note 4x in taiwan and hong kong has lte band 4 http://www.mi.com/hk/redminote4x/specs/
is it a diferent hardware as in redmi note 3 pro with kenzo and kate phones?

I'm curious if the Note 4 Global can have Band 28 unlocked. I had the Kate prior to this and it had band 20 and 28, not sure why they couldn't have Band28 on the Redmi Note 4 Global

Any break throughs on lte band unlocking? I edited my line 6828. I power off the phone. Power back on and check signal guru. Guru shows same lte bands at before editing line NV 6828. Is there another NV line for lte? Please assist as I saw no change in enabled bands when editing that line.
When I wiped data for signal guru it showed the bands I unlocked. No extra bands have worked on the 4x for me tho.
I opened the NON-HOLS modem bin and was digging around in the code. I was unsuccessful at putting the code from a global MI note 2 modem onto mido. Someone also modified their boot.img and was able to tell the phones which bands to use. I was unsuccessful on both endeavor
How to unlock LTE band-1 in SD version?
Any progress on unlocking band 20? I did not realize that the 4X I bought from ebay does not have band 20....

Hi there I have a Redmi Note 4x International version Snapdragon, 3GB + 32GB). And I have this phone since 3 or 4 weeks. So far so good. But one (BIG) downside: I haven't been able to connect to 4g so far.
I know the a phone ain't capable of 800mhz 4g, but 1800mhz should be possible.
I am in Utrecht, Netherlands and my carrier, Vodafone should have 4G via 1800mhz here. 4G works instant on my broken Oneplus X.
Anyone ideas to help me out? Thanks in advance

There is no international version of Note 4x. This is asian variant and is missing some frequencies used in EU - for example B20. International version is Redmi Note 4 Global. (why didn't you get it instead?)
As for your question, from what i see majority of antennas used by Vodafone in NL uses 800MHz (B20) so maybe you are not in range of 1800MHz.
You can also try to setup your VPN's manually.

Thanks for your reply. I got this phone because in my region there should be plenty 1800mhz antennas from what I saw on the map on that very page you mentioned. Even in Amsterdam I had no 4G reception.
Check attached map from Vodafone site. If iPhone 5 has 4G mine should have it as well, right?

You cannot return it anymore? I would just replace it with Global variant with B20.
On the other side do you really need LTE? H+ can be as fast and even faster than 4G (download), LTE has just much higher upload speeds.
Thinking about buying this phone. Can you guys tell me the common issues with this phone? The one I'm most concerned with is the headphone jack, does it produce hiss sound at low volume? I ask this since I came across a lot of phones with that issue. Thanks in advance

I personally don't experience hissing on this phone. As far as issues, it involves the OTA from Vendor Roms which bricked some devices. You can check your ROM version and cross reference it with the ones on the Mi website to make sure. Aside from that, I don't see anything wrong with the phone.
Hi, I'm also considering to buy Note 5 and I just wanted to say that I don't have that problem with Note 4, it doesn't mean much since I don't use N5 but I think there is very very little chance for hissing issue in any device produced in 2017.

Hi, when I purchased seller offer also a global variant for 40 usd more.
Many people confuse about global device version and global firmware that it´s not the same.
You just have to pay special attention to the bands that is enabled, the global version has more bands enabled, by i.e my version that is a non global doesn´t have LTE bands 2 (1900) nor 4 (1700/2100) it mean that in my country it can´t work on 4G (of course I bought it so it is cause I didn´t need). This is the main difference.

Why do you say that has B4? Where you saw it?
Look at this info, just 4G apparted, this is a non-global version from a chinese seller you can find these specs;
4G FDD LTE B5:850 /B8:900 /B3:1800 /B1:2100 /B7:2600
TD LTE B38:2600 /B39:1900/ B40:2300 /B41:2500 MHz
TD or TDD is the LTE FOR China, look up FDD LTE bands.
And this is a Global version, seller usually put in a red highlighted the bands added
4G: FDD LTE B5:850 /B8:900 /B3:1800 /B1:2100 /B7:2600 /B4:1700 /B20:800;
TD LTE B38:2600 / B40:2300
Differences here are bands 4 for Latin America and guess some regions of Asia and maybe others and band 20 for Spain.

No, if your device hasn´t these two added bands definitely it´s not a global version (global rom concept mean nothing for this) is a hardware limitation although can work within 4G depending on your company carrier in some of the 5 frequencies enabled.
I have a Chinese RN5, it has loads of bands dudes. The chance of it not working on your network are slim.
As for the headphones dilemma, they do not hiss or produce low volume. Altho if you pair them with Xiaomi Pro HD which have a high impedance then you will notice a lack in volume. That can be easily fixed with Dolby Atmos the Magisk Module.
