Can we talk about the Goodix fingerprint scanner issue? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

So, some people here are having no luck with the fingerprint scanner on CM13 roms. Does anyone know if there's going to be a fix coming? What would be required for it to be fixed?

People are busy tinkering with ROMs/Kernels. Add this, remove that. And it seems no one care about the new batch of XRN3Pro with different FP/LCD hardware.
Those people need helps... CC: @TheStrix @Umang96 @ktomov @banmeifyouwant @warmachine_28 etc...

I'll see if I can contact Goodix and Xiaomi and get the firmware required. If I were, what should I ask for?

Ask for kernel source/driver + proper documentation.

Not that I don't care, but this is complete arseholenes out of Xiaomi. They've made one device with thousand different parts. Different camera sensors, different fingerprint sensors, different touchscreen digitizers, different batteries.
It's their job to update their kernel source with appropriate drivers and documentation. What will happen in two months time, when they decide that they can get even cheaper parts? Fiasco once again. Furthermore I can't and I wont do any experiments on devices that I don't poses.

@DAZTR411 For that reason mate, there is still no clues for those XRN3Pro phones with new hardware since the kernel source Xiaomi gave to us is INCOMPLETE.
Luckily I have FPC on my phone.

It's kinda bad that xiaomi did this. Even though they gave us an incomplete source, they changed some hardware and didn't even update. Bad move, btw I am one of the goodix fp owner and that's the only different piece on my RN3P. (thank god)
It would be good if any dev tried to test with these different hardwares..
Well the phone continues to be a beast with or without fp, no regrets.
And thanks for the custom kernels ????

Is there any way to know what fp sensor I have on my device?

Fp, Touchscreen display and battery.
For some, me included, the fp doesn't appear in the settings. The touchscreen dt2w doesn't work in atmel one only on focaltech. And for the battery some report the battery stats get stuck at 50% or - 2%.

Oh hey, I have the battery problem too (which I fixed thankfully), really wish I knew about this stuff, not like you can really test for it before you buy I guess.

Can I ask what you did to fix it? So far the only solutions I've found are to use Mokee or an older build of RR.

I just got a new RMN3P to replace my one with a broken screen and it has the goodix, I didn't even know it existed until now. The only rom I can get it working with is the very latest Global developer from a couple of days ago.
Can I swap the motherboard from my broken screen one to the new one? I'm really loving RR on my broken screen one and would love to get it going on the new one with fingerprint.

In build.prop the persist.sys.fp.goodix=0
does that means goodix fp is not used?

POLL: Do you use the fingerprint sensor now?

Just wondering how many people actually use the fingerprint sensor on a daily basis...
I used it occasionally before I was unlocked and s-off, but since that happened, I dont care to bother getting it to work again, since, IMO, it was placed in a bad spot, and I always ended up smearing my camera lens when trying to use it. HTC should either move it or dump it, but thats food for another thread..
Post your feelings about it here!
I am using fingerprint in a daily basis.
I simply register 3 fingers, all of them to unlock screen.
When swiping those fingers (while registering), i place my palm 'not' inline vertically to the phone.
My palm is in casual position. Just like when casually holding the phone, which of fingers that are casually touch the scanner.
For me I swipe them a bit diagonally.
Once registered, It works flawlessly be it when phone in vertical or horizontal position.
Be it you swipe it upward or downward or even a bit right/left ward.

I use to use it all the time however the fact the hardware is not used beyond the Security screen bothers me. I.E. password/Fingerprint authorizations change authorizations. It should be programmed to work outside of the security screen lock. I.E. buy something on Play Store it ask for a password you swipe. Like Apple did with touch ID.
I don't use it as I don't really like the position and the usability a lot. On my old phone, Atrix 4G I used it only in the beginning as well, never really had a need for it.

Use it everyhour.. thats my method of unlock.. quite better than typing a pin for me.
yes! I even removed my corporate exchange account in order to gain access to the scanner. part of the rules in using company exchange is they disable all of those options.
the chicks dig it too!!!! :highfive:
I love to use the Fingerprint. But i really don't like the position and when Finger lock security active. It alway disable the lockscreen pulldown nofitication. So.. .i disable this. Sadly

Yes, yes, it has. Though quite a few people say it's not working that well.
Yea, I was using before unlock and root and thinking about stocking phone back up - not much support for this phone
what kind of support are you looking for that you cant find?
I was gonna say eho actually uses it and does it really protect your phone or is it a waste of space and a worthless feature

even so, looks like most folks don't use it for one reason or the other..
for me, if it was somewhere else, and actually could be used for some real security, I might be more inclined to use it, but, for what it is now, I see no need to bother with it..

But what better place do you think would be possible? i am wondering how a phone which does not have a physical home button can use a sensor in the front?!
Looking at poll, most of the population not using the fingerprint sensor, i am guessing it is going to be acceptable if the devs port ROM's from the One to the MAX without the fingerprint sensor and i am sure that will be easy and could be achieved by a beginner dev
that would be fantastic; there are so many great roms for the one, and I agree, 95% of us could care less about a functional fingerprint sensor, if we could have several more roms to choose from..
Had no clue this has a poll. Must not be viewable mobile which likely most of us viewing this forum are.

All right.
Rooters:
do FxP's AOSP builds support USB-OTG? The reason I ask is that Sony changed this in their official ROM by having to search for USB devices via a (Quick) Settings entry, because the port cannot be powered due tot the water resistance.
do FxP's AOSP builds have support for changing the display's white balance? This is also a custom Sony thing.
do Sony's ROMs running on an unlocked Z4T still have support for changing the display's white balance?

1. No.. the port seems to always be off
2. No
3. No
A few other annoying things are that NFC and gyroscope, accelerometer and such (screen rotation) don't seem to work for me at least (after 4 reflashes it's the same) and there is no recovery as far as I know for it (the androplus one didn't work)... But hey USB and WiFi tethering/hotspot works! (doesn't seem to be a option on the stock WiFi only firmware)

And a question by me in case someone knows of it... Is there a way to get custom recovery on AOSP ROM?
I'm expecting a answer to be no but it can't hurt to ask

Oh my. So on AOSP I don't have NFC, gyroscope, accelerometer, USB-OTG and white balance controls? Can anyone confirm?
I'm on the verge of unlocking the bootloader to run AOSP, but if this is the case with the current builds, that are based on the only Sony sources, I'm really let down. It's practically unusable.

Apparent Root for Axon 7

In my stumblings through google I found this - https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&...Ngtuq-bHVKDh9IMHmsjqQg&bvm=bv.127178174,d.bGs

If you are brave enough to try & it's successful would be good to know....
Given that ZTE have suggested that they will provide the ability to unlock the boot-loader at some point after release and that the link you direct people to at sadroid.com (why the link obfuscation by the way?) looks fishy enough to make the dodgy customers at kingroot/kingoroot look like fine upstanding members of the community, I'd advise that people not touch this with a forty foot barge pole.

Confirm what? If you're asking about the bootloader, they said they are in talks with R&D about how to best do it, and that it's a more a question of "when" than "if". Of course, all details are unknown.

I think that it came up briefly during the last webinar, they mentioned the large amount of support on the forums for an unlockable boot-loader and said that while it wouldn't be unlockable at release that the ability to unlock it at some stage was more "when" than "if". If they keep to the monthly update schedule they indicated that they would like to maintain then a month or two after release seems most likely.

I still don't know why we can't get untethered twrp?
The Asus zenfone did this, it just booted into twrp and you could root your device... You couldn't install custom roms or keep twrp for any longer than when you rebooted but it did indeed allow us to root the Zenfone 2 (ZE551ML) pretty neatly.
No bootloader unlock required...

You can download from the Zenfone forums - http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/development/alpha-tethered-twrp-asus-zenfone-2-t3123532
However I don't know if it will brick the Axon 7 as it was made for the zenfone 2 and that may be different to the Axon 7 with partition setups and so on...
Not willing to try with my phone as I need it working when I want to call someone, not when I want to keep a piece of paper from blowing off my desk ...

Only been using it since yesterday, but everything seems to be working fine. I'm sure I'll encounter some bugs, but it appears they release updates on Fridays, and the current one is from last week, so I assume there'll be another one available in the next few hours.
6.0.1.build.1.12
Everything working good on 1625 with t-mobile except for rotation. Its seems auto-rotate is inop.
Looking into it further, it looks like more sensors are inop:
I just tried using the Android auto app for navigation, and it wouldn't give me voice navigation. The directions were correct though. I also tried just Google maps with the same problem. Next time I go out I'll try waze and see how that goes.
If you're OK with an unofficial version there is a slim6 build in the g4+ forums that works great on the xt1625
Flashing this week's build now. @MadGoat- how did you get to that sensor screen? I couldn't find it.

That is actually the diag sensor screen in the app "GPS status and toolbox".
Let me know if your sensors are inop when you install. I found it odd myself and feel that maybe it could have been a bad flash maybe?
1.13 build doesnt show any device changes for athene, but I will test it today and report back.
:good:

Sensors were still not working. I flashed AOKP 7.1 rom from the G4 plus page. It's pretty smooth, and really quick. Worth giving up xposed for a few weeks until the nouget release.
You could always use one of the marshmallow ROMs in the g4+ forums if xposed is a must

Yeah, this rom is half baked... Honestly really not worth the time considering there are so many other 6 roms that work fine with our devices (official or not). Furthered by the fact that 7 release is incoming and I'm sure almost all 6 rom dev will halt once we can sink our fingers into some source...

Curious about this rom and if you can aswer some questions....
Did you flash N Soak test first?
and
How does it stack up to (what is now) the CyanMod rom?
Thanks ahead of time :good:

I did not flash the soak test first, and it's working just fine. I didn't try CM first, but it's a CM based rom. The only problems I've had were my adaway app not being able to install the necessary host files, and you can't assign custom ringtones. The developer is working on the ringtone issue, and I changed ad blocker software, so no big deal. I do like some of the new features, like being able to respond to texts right in the notification, and being able to delete multiple emails from the notifications. They're on to nightly builds, and the dev is quick to respond to issues.
Just installed latest build on xt1625 looks great so far, love slim ROMs.
Will try out navigation (maps)tommorow. Thanks

Bro most of Fts_ts touch panel users have been suffering since day one from this God damn issue which seems to miui team as some sort of a rocket science, i have been suffering from ghost touches / touch freezes, flashed all vendor/firmware versions, No go, flashed most kernels also a no go, flashed different ROMs still no working out , using global kernel from miui minimizes this trash but doesnt radically solve it, tried some codes on the build prop still not working, am just gonna forget that I own a stupid poco cuz it turned onto a flashing mess rather than a functioning phone, oh well a functioning phone when it comes down to touch screen at least.

If modifying software clearly doesn't help, why not send the device to Xiaomi to have them fix it?

This is ongoing for many users bro, the fix should be in a software as to them it isn't hardware related matter.

If it's related to software, then why some users (like you) experience issues regardless of vendor, ROM and kernel, while other users with the same touch screen (like me) do not experience any?
My Poco F1 also has a Fts_ts touch screen and I'm yet to notice any issues at all regardless of software, as the issues were not present on factory ROM+vendor, updated MIUI and vendor, and any other custom ROM I've tried so far.
To me it's clearly not a software issue, so if it's not a hardware issue, then what is it?

Exactly it must be hardware issue, but xiaomi isn't admitting that and they are saying the fix will be pushed soon and we have been hearing this pushed soon BS since stone age, your Fts_ts must be from a new batch bro.

Mine is dated October 2018 and is FTS.
But it may be dependent on region too or other factors?
Edit: sorry meant NVT not FTS!

I'm in Ireland but bought from Ali Express/China.
Note that I made a mistake in my original post and said FTS when I meant NVT! :silly:
