TWRP and ROM flashing help - T-Mobile LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I flashed TWRP onto my phone the other night, wouldn't flash with fastboot. Found a TOT file and flashed that which worked, however I can only get into recovery by using adb commands. I can't do it from the phone at all. And whenever I try to flash a ROM I just get error 7. I don't know what's going on with this, but I feel like my TWRP install was probably done wrong or it was a bad file or something. But I was looking all over to find out how to do it. My phone's on stock 6.0 currently. I guess what I'm looking for is a way to flash everything back to stock first, then go about flashing a recovery and a ROM from there.

Check this guide.

Hi, I flashed the above ROM (but not the newer UNOFFICIAL one) and have lost CWM. A BOOT.IMG file has been posted in the forums and the instructions to flash with Heimdall. I am not familiar with the procedure to do this but I have installed the correct drivers. Can anyone give me any pointers to flash this boot.img file? Thanks!!

Ok, Put phone in download mode and connect USB, Loaded frontend, selected "Flash", loaded my PIT file, Clicked ADD, selected "RECOVERY" from the drop
down menu, Clicked "START" 100% successful flash but still no CWM Recovery mode. Just a black screen if recovery attempted.
Have I missed something? Really miss CWM

[Q] HOX+ problems after root/flash...

Hello everyone,
first of all im a total beginner on this field and it's the first time doing this stuff.
since there are no updates further than 4.2 for the beautiful HOX+ i tried to flash the cyanogenmod11 rom on my device. i used hasoons all-in-one toolkit. i followed the guide step by step and got stuck now in a hopefully not that serious problem.
i unlocked bootloader and flashed the cwm international recovery. the recovery was working fine and i did a backup. then i flashed the kernel with the boot.img from the cyanogenmod11.zip and the problems started. when normally booted the phone lights up with the white htc screen and then turns off again after about 3 seconds. i haven't flashed the CM11.zip yet and i guess that was the mistake? i still can acces the recover as well as the bootloader but like already said the phone doesn't start. another problem is that adb doesn't find the device enymore and only prints an empty line when using "adb devices" howevery using "fastboot devices" still gives me the proper result. hasoons toolkit also doesn't recognice the phone anymore.
if anyone could help either getting back to a custom rom or preferably setting up cyanogenmod properly would make me really happy =).
i hope this is the right place for this. i also searched around for hours and hours but can't find anything that helps me.

you normally flash the zip via recovery, do you already have the zip on your phone?
if so, go into recovery and install, find the zip file and install it
if you don't have the zip on your phone then you will need to sideload the zip to your phone, (fancy way of copying the file to your phone) then post 4 tells you how to sideload the rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2066390
thanks

the problem with this is that i first don't have the zip on my phone so cant install from the recovery and second that adb doesnt recognize my phone for whatever reasone so i can't sideload the rom. if anyone experienced similar problems (fastboot working, adb not) please let me know how to fix it
Lukas
another thing i just read about is the possibility if one already has installed a running cyanogenmod rom on his device he can extract that as an system.img if i remember right and i could use it on my hox+. just in case anyone knows how to pull that off let me know =)
otherwise still looking for hints how to install rom via fastboot or how to make adb working again

Try flashing the ROM onto the phones storage. Then you can install the ROM. If you cant even charge your phone then you have bigger problems than not having an OS installed.

Original boot.img required Urgent!!

I accidentally flashed TWRP to the boot instead of recovery. Whenever I turn on the phone it goes straight to TWRP. As it stands the phone is unsuable! AS far I understand it the way to fix this is to flash the phone's original boot.img to the boot. Is this correct? If so my phone is MT2L03 with the 5.1 update. Does anynone know of any link or could anyone PLEASE share their stock boot.img with me. I really need help!
Thank You.
Boot image is part of OS. If you want to install CM12, while you are in twrp, just transfer the cm12 rom and gapp from pc to your sdcard, then flash both. You get complete cm12 with its boot image.
But if you want stock boot image back, you can just flash the stock firmware using the 3 button boot. It is available in the "official stock firmware" section in the INDEX page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3149530
If you have difficulties doing that, let us know. I maybe can find it somewhere, but to be honest, I don't use stock anymore once CM is out.
Thanks. CM12 flash problem
I was able to find a b321 boot.img online so problem solved. The cm 12 flash is not working for me I keep getting an error while flashing TWRP keeps telling me that the cm 12.1mt2 file is specifically for the b322 bootloader but that my bootloader is "unknown" so its unable to flash.
Still haven't figured out what the problem is. I tried to install the specific 2.8.7.0 TWRP for the mt2l03 via the app but it gives me an error. When I try to flash it in recovery it still has no effect on the cm install. Maybe someone would be kind enough to guide me.

Try reading the OP for that ROM. It clearly states you have to be in b322.... Reading is key.

i do have b322. So the problem is not that. the problem was already there even before i booted with the b321.img. In any case the img is for boot only. It is not the build.
Also twrp, have you install the twrp listed in that same page? other twrp version doesn't work.
Edit, saw you mentioned already that install twrp error using app. So try install the correct twrp in bootloader.

If you flashed b321 boot image you are not on b322 boot... And the correct twrp is found in the same OP....

TWRP 3.0 is up!

So flash, much excite, such new. Wow.
Edit - I know I sound weird but I don't like dirty flashes. I always reboot into bootloader, fastboot erase recovery and then fastboot flash recovery twrp.img ( I rename it twrp.img for short) then boot into it. I have done this for years on BL unlocked devices and never had a problem flashing twrp. It's just ME, but I think it is fun typing the stuff, and it assures me that I have a clean state and am not dirty flashing anything! Also, on others phones I use RASHR instead of flashify. Once again, personal preference but have had better luck.

^ That's great news.
I tried flashed this but after trying to reboot into recovery got the broken android icon. Reflashed back to older version and it worked. Not sure if I had a corrupt come. Do you have to reboot the bootloader after flashing from fastboot for it to take? I just rebooted to system after flashing.

Just out of curiosity, did you use flashify? I know two other people that it borked the flash also. I recommend rashr. But I also flash via otg cable and usb drive. I'd say you most likely had a bork download. Delete the img, run trimmer, redownload it. And flash via rashr and reboot and respond if it fixed it. Good luck!

Stock systemless root. Used Heisenberg's guide step 10 to update. Saw TWRP 3.0 so decided to try that.

Fastboot erase recovery, then reflash twrp recovery, boot into recovery and reflash systemless root.
No problem dirty flashing here, but the process is a little different than it was on my previous phone where you would just flash it like a ROM...
You gotta:
"Download the latest TWRP image file (.img) from the download link and boot TWRP. Go to install and find and select the Images... button. Browse to the image that you downloaded and select it. Choose recovery and swipe to flash."
OP's method seems like the best bet though...

I need help

Hello XDA developers, I'm in urgent and I have a really big problem. It sounds funny but, I deleted my realme ui recovery ,_,
I was trying to install PPUI 4.1 on my Realme 7 but I saw a tutorial that you have to erase the recovery to install TWRP. Please, I need a solution of how can I get it back. I also tried flashing a lot of recoveries and their vbmeta but nothing works. Sadly.
Edit: I'm on RMX2151_11_C.17 | Realme UI 2.0 Latest version

From what I read before, fastboot boot will only boot to that recovery file temporarily but I haven't tried it myself. It should be
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
I'm not 100% sure it will work without problems, but if it did, your data will not be wiped.
I suggest you wait for someone else to answer coz I'm not expert. I only learned from guides in the telegram group.

You can try, first, if fastboot works in your device, type adb reboot fastboot, once the script ends, quickly disconnect device from your PC and again reconnect it, you will be redirected to fastboot, if the bootloader is unlocked, you could flash it using fastboot commands.
If you can´t get it to work then you can flash it using SPFT https://spflashtool.com/, put the recovery, in the same folder, with the attached files. All the sources to can use the tool, here https://www.getdroidtips.com/bypass-mediateks-sp-flash-tool-authentication-protection/

Most of the custom roms I've seen requires formatting data. Just to be sure have you unlocked bootloader already? That requires wiping data iirc.
If not then nothing will really work with what you're doing.

What you are saying now is totally different from what you firstly posted.
Installing a custom ROM doesn't require a stock recovery (just in case you are confusing), and obviously, to can switch from a stock ROM to a custom ROM, that has a total different basement, it's mandatory to format data, anyway, you should back up your data previously to do so.

Why you are saying that you cannot install a working recovery, I don't know of any attempt you did to achieve it.
A stock recovery is not needed to install a custom ROM, and even you can't install a custom ROM using a stock recovery.
If you want to join, flashing your device and stuff like this, better learn how to use SPFT, also you have this tool https://github.com/bkerler/mtkclient, this can save your device, if something in the process goes wrong.

OK, then what you are trying to install is an "old" Android 10 based ROM, if this is the case, then just download a stock Android 10 ROM, flash it through SPFT, then use SPFT to flash the custom recovery, transfer the custom ROM to your external SD Card (preferably) or sideload it, through recovery, and flash it. In the process you need to unlock bootloader, and immediately to flash the custom recovery, boot to it, using hardware buttons.

You have to boot to recovery using hardware buttons (PWR + vol. down), in regard to orange state, this is absolutely normal when bootloader was unlocked, it's not an issue but a cosmetic thing.
