Yea some interesting changes & features with few quirks i hope they do something about.
The white background in settings look clean but a bit too Samsungish ? Infact prefer they retained the EMUI 3.0 (removed in Emui 4.0) aspect of stock apps where certain elements of the stock apps changed in color with change in wallpaper to give a unified feeling.
They have changed the clock app and removed their signature rounded design and also made it white maybe for consistency. But not feeling it.
Also i have already sent a feedback (via stock Hicare app) to give the notification/shortcut panel the ability to stretch down a lot more until top row of shortcuts reach the center making it easy for one hand usage.
Another subtle change they could make is with the navigation bar which should be given an option to fade out into dots.

totally agree with you.
hope it gets more refined as it comes out of beta,:good:
Nougat is now officially out. I hope P9 Plus would get EMUI 5 soon. The plus is the higher priced phone between the two anyway
Comparing MIUI 8 to EMUI 5.0, the latter needs to do a lot more in polishing aesthetics.
The more i look at Emui 5.0 the more i tend towards feeling it looks ugly and poorly thought out
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1qfU0ln9u8
I hope they don't release officially in such fashion (could release beta version for public) and take time to work out more on the aesthetics.
After watching the EMUI 5.0 official intro video, now i better appreciate what they have done and where their inspiration is from.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKYo7Kn7SlA
They still have places to implement that electric blue and white scheme all over though. The setting is too multicolored and could have been slightly more minimal. The shortcut panel is black unlike the rest of the white UI, and this panel still wasting half the screen space with shortcut all concentrated on top half of the screen. Hoping also that nice looking electric blue animations are used more. An animated battery and clock icon on the top bar. Ability to switch to black and electric blue scheme for night time. Also like other UI's they need a single or couple of official themes that keep getting refined with every update. But EMUI despite having pre-installed themes, none seems to have retained as an official theme that fits perfect with the rest of the UI.

Thanks! Does G6 have full month calendar widget? If yes please post screenshot of it with some example event added.
On new event page there is: cancel, pocket and save. What is "pocket" for?
and the last thing: incoming call and during call screen please

Well i have one theme working on thr G6 right now and I have a thread open in the themes and apps section for support and feedback.
Now this is slightly tricky because there are some obstacles I am facing with porting some of these over. I cannot port over them all due to some extreme ui differences in a few apps. The main issue (but not the only one ) is because with the G6 there are a few apps where the text is hard coded white and thr same apps the trxt is hard coded black. So in short one device will get screwed with either dark text on a dark background or white text on a light background which creates readability issues. I most certainly cannot have that happen. And also the G6 has a lot of different elements that can be themed. So if i were to add those to an exisiting v20 theme it will cause the v20 to no longer work because it's telling the theme engine to theme xxx icon or xxx color which isn't supported. Thus the theme doesn't function. So that's an issue.
So what the plan is, is to port over a few themes that I can get it to function properly on both devices and the ones that can't will have to be a new theme.
Off the top of my head the ones that can expect to work on all devices are: Dark Nougat (already updated and live), Flow, Indigo flow and crush.
Remix, Vector, Dark Material, Dark AOSP, Pixel Ui are not going to work and will have to be new themes that will only work with the G6.
I'm not sure about Dark Ui theme yet. It may or may not work.

I tested this theme for the Dev and it definitely had white on white text in the sms app. The dialer had black text (ABC) on a dark grey background as well but I don't know if either are hard coded.

Interesting you say that, because I have some issues with some of the LG free themes from their smartworld store. Mainly with the notification panel. When there is a notification, the text is white same as the background. I am surprised on how they can mess up big time like that!

Good theme, though the Black Notification Panel is pretty much the same as the Default Notification Panel, Blue on Black. I'd imagine this is good for a dark settings screen, also a Twitter Dark Blue WhatsApp and some system tweaks here and there. Frankly I'd love to see a black Playstore and black WhatsApp theme!
If maybe a bit more theming, would be great.

Btw, I tried doing themes for other apps, but it seems like that it is impossible to do that without Xposed + root (or Andromeda, the no-root solution for Oreo devices).
I'll try to make that work, but for now the theme is suspended because Oreo is rolling out on many devices (mine included), so I could end up having difficulties in developing an EMUI 5 theme on EMUI 8.

I'd like to make it, but I still have to wait for the update.
Huawei + my carrier (branded phone) = we're in 2018 and I didn't receive Oreo, yet...
Changelog:
3th August 2018:
Thread updated, new version added, links updated.
Confirmed: support for EMUI 8 (zYDarkUI5.hwt tested on P10 lite)
Hi everyone, I have a p20 lite ane-lx3. Since October security patch update, when I want to apply one theme, the theme doesn't apply properly because the status bar and navigation bar doesn't change :'(
I don't know if I have problems with my phone or huawei quit that feature.. Have you been experiencing this?
Thank you.
PS: I have done two factory reset on the phone.
Did you restart your phone after applying the theme?

Yes, I did but nothing changed. Also I did two factory reset but didn't work :'(
Hmm don't know Bro. Restart after applying theme worked for me. Then the themes loaded correctly.
you should send your phone to repair
I am experiencing the same problem. It seems like the last couple of updates changed some things and that has broken the theming engine. I guess we will just have to wait till the next update where it might get fixed.
even I too want to confirm that there is nothing wrong with the phone. People are not checking their phones properly and are under the impression that their themes are working properly. To know if a theme is working fully, after applying a theme and reboot, check if icons under settings applet have changed or not, check whether status bar icons are changing or not, if having VoLTE connection, check whether its changing to HD instead of VoLTE(applicable for some themes), battery icons and even some apps interface (usually the Calculator).
Currently the only thing that is working is changing of app icons, wallpapers and a few colors like message/sms colors, and nothing else unless you use Xposed to tweak your visuals or some substratum theme engine. Even Huawei too confirmed that their theme engine is broken and they are working on a fix with Android 9 update, but they are clueless about when it will be released for beta testing, but they confirmed that development of emui for p20 lite is on the works and broken themes wont be fixed until l Android 9.
However some noobs are happy that their app icons got changed and are celebrating the fact that theme engine is working properly.
@fbh59
Thnx for the tip. Feeling like a big noob right now.

yes!!! let me attach a theme, kindly test and post your screenshots. I shall show you the difference between your smartphone visuals and that of mine. I can showcase as I am still with September patch. But I am not sure whether I can show the difference as you seem to use P10
Thanks, tested it and only things that don't change are settings menu icons and status bar.
Nice theme, no fan of apple so I'm not going to use it but nice work!!
Huawei Theme Engine Broken
While these are the screen visuals of my screen with an older security patch. I didn't use any substratum theme engine or Xposed tweaks to change the colour within apps like Play Store, VLC. Even Outlook interface was changed to Red instead of usual blue, but couldn't post it due to all confidential items inside it.
P.S: I don't know whats so "apple" in it? I used this theme just for a neat status bar. Used a different theme for app icons. The only thing I had to bear is under software version it shows ios 11 instead of emui 8(but who visits that screen). Lockscreen too can be changed. I might use an app like Theme Editor for EMUI to change status bar icons, but certain things are not changed like displaying HD instead of VoLTE. Copy pasting of this theme's status bar into other themes and building a new theme too does no help.
Hence the problem
Sh*t. I have the same problem with December patch for p20 lite.
App icons are changing but icons on settings are stock icon

Huawei themes does not work!
When I enter the app no themes apply
I may have found it, read this:
''We appreciate the feedback and would like to share some background information and clarifications.
The Overlay Manager Service (OMS) is intended for device manufacturer's use. OMS, in its current form, is not designed to be a generic theming feature -- more design considerations will need to be put into it in order to uphold Android platform's security and product standards for users. Accordingly, OMS has never been advocated as a public developer feature.
Earlier this year a security patch (CVE-2017-13263) was released to OEMs for Android Oreo devices. The patch restricts the installation of overlays to pre-installed or system-signed apps, in response to a legitimate security issue raised in Android Oreo. Android Pie also includes this critical security patch, so it restricts overlays in the same way as does Android Oreo.
We understand that custom theming is an important capability for some users. We will take your feedback into consideration with any future work in this area.''

Don't report this to Huawei, they can't do much about it and only Google can, but they have to find a way to get rid of the security issue before making it work again.

I didn't say it was a solution to the blur thing you mentioned. I just said your issue, plus the slow switching animation are things bothering me in Pie and cannot solve it.
Also tried with different themes, but none of them modified those things

I don't think this is possible to remove the blur. It was introduced already in the good lock app quickstar on android 8 and now they added it as default.
when I pull down the notification bar there is no lag though. But I am using the feature "reduce animations" which I really like.. way better than setting animations to 0 in dev options..
Is there any way to make the icons in the quick settings smaller though? They are waaaay to big for me and is killing the experience.

I have the Galaxy Note 8 and the Galaxy Note 9 side by side, both running Android pie. I wasn't paying attention at first, but I noticed something after I installed a good lock, which worked perfectly on my Galaxy Note 9. Upon uninstalling good lock, it is around this time that I noticed that there is a blur background when I pull on my notification bar. But I cannot remember if it was always like that. Comparing it to the Android pie in note8, this is not the case. The background remains transparent but a little bit dimmed, which is what I prefer.

Smaller or are we able to add more than 6 on the top row? Hell my s7 or s5 I think I could have 8 icons on the top. Makes it way more convenient when accessing things. I noticed with Oreo I can have 6 and there is no where that I can find that I can add more... Is this a feature that Oreo removed?
Thanks,

Title says it all, I hate the bubble toggles that take up the entire screen and require multiple taps. I'm familiar with rooting, and flashing just curious what ROMs are available to help fix this. Thank you in advance!
To the best of my recollection, none as the UI elements are baked into the source code. To go back to the Android 11 UI I think you would need to use an Android 11 ROM, none of which exist for the P6.
Aosp mods does but u lose icon name. It's great to have circle icons again
Use Nova launcher and you can change the look of a lot of the elements. No root needed.

Well, the OP did mention bubble toggles in his opening post. Agreed that being more specific would have helped. Thank you for the reminder about what kind of work it takes to mod the UI, as I haven't done it in years, especially with Substratum making it painless.
why couldn't someone build android 11 for the pixel 6? any reason it not possible?
I guess the OP is talking about the ugly quick settings with large tiles that take up space and requires multiple clicks to adjust internet and other settings.
The product design of software is the worst I have seen.
Nova launcher cannot alter the quick settings.

This module has a ton of options for the UI. I used it for a while and it seemed fine but I haven't reinstalled it because I didn't really want the added bloat to change one thing (wifi and mobile data toggles).
