Just got my new Redmi Note 3 Pro (kenzo) last week. Decided to jump onto a custom ROM after using MIUI for a few days. Here's what I've done:
1. Official bootloader unlocked
2. Installed alka TWRP
3. Wipe all partitions
4. Installed CM13 Radios.zip , then installed official CM13 ROM + OpenGapps + SuperSU
Booted into the ROM fine, used it for a few days and everything works well (including fingerprint). Problem is, I keep getting orange/yellow/red signal bars under battery stats. It's not constantly either. If I leave the phone at the same spot, the signal fluctuates between orange and light green constantly. The entire cellular network signal under my battery graph looks like a traffic light.
I'm not using LTE, just standard 3G. I get about -85db to ~91db, which is high. At the same spot on a different phone (also on 3G), I get about -75db (the lower the better). The thing is, on my kenzo, the signal bar is usually full or almost full, so I don't understand why the signal is so bad. So I thought, maybe I just need to flash another radio/modem. I then took the official MIUI 7.x ROM and flashed the NON-HLOS.bin via fastboot, but the result is still the same.
I've tested a different ROM as well, but same result. I don't seem to have any issues with call qualities and battery seems to be OK and unaffected by this. Not sure if it's a bug (unlikely, as I've tested both a CM and AOSP ROM), or perhaps an issue with the modem/radios or more likely a hardware fault with my phone? Someone else reported this issue as well, but apparently it works fine for them on ZephyrOS or something (I haven't tested this).
I must also point out that while I was on stock MIUI, I don't see any bad signals on my phone. It's always green.
Anyone?
Hi, I'm the one who posted it works on Zephyr. But it doesn't, actually. I solved this problem by putting it on airplane mode, waiting ~10secs and the problem stops(mostly, if it didn't, try again). You can check in *#*#4636#*#*, it doesn't drop to -113dBm. I thought it might not drain battery but I'm on ressurection remixed and there's a phone idle drain of about 131mAh.
Hi mate, thanks for your reply.
I've noticed that as well, tried putting it in airplane mode and then back to normal mode, the signal seems to be a lot more stable. My phone has never went to -113dBm though, just averaging high -80dbm ~ -95dbm. I've noticed that if you hold the phone with your left hand, the signal is much better. I think this may be similar to iPhone 4's signalgate issue, where the modem chip/band is sitting at a bad spot that is blocked depending on how you hold the phone. Disappointing to be honest.....but anyway, signal seems to be stable so far on the leaked 5.1 Qualcomm AOSP ROM. Same thing on MIUI.
Update:
BTW, it's not just the phone signal, even GPS is affected as well. When I'm inside buildings, I can't get any GPS signal at all using Device Only. If I select High Accuracy (which uses GPS and WiFi for fetching signals), I can then lock on a signal. In other words, the Device Only option (which solely relies on GPS itself) will fail when I'm inside buildings. This tells me that the chip for fetching phone and GPS signals is either crap, or that Xiaomi has packaged them in a bad layout design or position within the phone. It doesn't matter what ROM I try, the result is the same. Even using apps like FasterGPS (which downloads the gps.conf file for your country) doesn't help.
However, it's not really a big deal. I can get a lock on the GPS signal inside buildings if I use High Accuracy. Once a signal is locked, I can then switch back to Device Only and GPS will continue to work. Also, when I'm outside of the building, I can get a fast lock on using Device Only straight away, so it's not really a problem. It's just that compared to my Galaxy S5 (a 2 year old phone), the Redmi Note 3 doesn't seem much better. I know it's a budget phone, but the specs of the phone should be a lot better than my 2 year old S5.
One last thing I should point out is that the building I'm in isn't a big building with multiple floors. It's actually a small house and I get about -75dbm for my phone signal. So it's not like I'm in a bad spot with no reception. GPS just doesn't work well when you're inside a house/building on this phone.

Hi, I have recently come back to an SGS2 after dumping one after they first came out. The reason for me was terrible battery life, the 3G, H, H+ switching lockup issue, and poor GPS performance. At the time I think the most recent firmware was XXKE4. My original phone was originally on 3, which I de-branded and upgraded every time a newer version of firmware got released, after a couple of weeks use I noticed a duff pixel, so re-branded, took it back and swapped it for another, did the same customisation and it was still no good, I could be wrong, but I think the received signal strength was worse on the second one too. In any case the aforementioned issues still remained. In the end I got rid of it and went for a HTC sensation.
This proved, ultimately, to be a bad choice, what with all the dust issues, and an even bigger battery life problem than the SGS2, also, despite popular belief, i think the build quality of the SGS2 is better, sensation is horrible and creaky. Anyway, I ended up getting all disappointed with dual-core phones, and went back to my trusty old LG optimus one for a bit of normality. Eventually tho, I got the opportunity to own an SGS2 again, and I crumbled..
Now, I have an SGS2, I was immediately greeted with a software update, which I did, to XWKG4, still 3 branded, only mod was insecure kernel, root, reflash standard kernel. That's it.
Now I have no 3G, H, H+ switching issues, it takes its time sometimes but never gets completely stuck like it used to, GPS is better, Signal strength is actually good, no browser flash crashes, and most impressive, even set up as it was before with multiple push email, whatsapp, skype running constantly, twitter, constant syncing, wifi on all the time, gps on all the time, no battery saving at all, it's using about 4% an hour in standby. Which I think is pretty darn good. In fact, I can't find anything to complain about.
Seems to me, some of these problems could be related to individual handsets, so i'm keeping this one, and not gonna be messing with any ROM's either.
Anyone else got one that "just seems to work"?
Pink spot on camera is my only problem, playing with white balance almost solves this. I get 10 - 12hrs heavy use, 36hrs medium use and 48ish hrs light use. all with wifi on constantly, gps on, emails on push. no signal issues, no yellow or blue tint on screen. sound through headphones is great on power amp, never used stock player, no wake up lag. from reading on here we may be the lucky ones tho, either that or the other happy people don't bother posting
Btw I'm on unbranded voda UK, kf3, stock Rom without root
My wifi keeps dropping out. It'll work for 10 minutes and then stop completely yet still show bars of signal. Latest firmware i've used is KG3. I've now taken it in to be fixed.
No Probs with wifi here, seems to work just fine. Actually, just had my first issue, although nothing major, was using the built in email app, just went to reply to an email and it kept insisting that it was an unrecognized email address, wouldn't let me reply, so just binned it and gone back to using Gmail.
Had 2 phones from O2 in the UK and both have poor in call volume through the headset.
Music volume is fine. I think it uses different hardware for voice calls? Which means it might not be fixable via firmware. I'll make do tho cause everything else is smashing!

Hello all!
I have been getting very low wi-fi signal on my nook since I upgraded from stock to CM10. I know its not the router , as it was doing fine with every other device on my network.
I'm on CM10, have tried the three major roms out there for CM10 ( PURE, sgt7+cherry picks, codefireX) just to see if it was rom side.
I'm just wondering what are my options here ? I can't walk outside my room without dropping the already weak signal .
I not having the same problem from crossfireX or earlier builds of PURE, sgt7+cherry picks. Make sure you wipe dalvik and factory reset wipe before you flash a rom. Try a router firmware update then start test by setting up g band only then setup n band on router if successful.

I have wiped dalvik and factory reset with all the roms I have flashed, and nothing is changing. Also, I have the default Verizon FIOS router(checked, firmware is up-to-date) and its on b/g mixed mode. I don't believe it can do wireless-N.
Let make sure it not the rom in question for you. Can you connect to like a friends, neighbor or a nearby hot spot which could simulate the same problem? If you connect with high bar within proximity to the router, then you know its not the rom. Do a speedtest.net or use the app on your device to test if your getting at least 12 Mbps. If you are getting higher rate then I would just ignore the bar.
Well looky that, I'm a Senior Member today, I guess I can get my discount at Ihop now.
Other ways of using a Intel laptop as a router is to have Intel My Wifi Utility to enable a hotspot function or ad hoc network test for your nt. Just a thought.

I have a spare linksys router I tested. Almost identical results were found. Should I re-flash stock and start from the beginning ? I mean, I can't take more then ten steps to my bathroom without dropping the signal.
I also did a speed-test.net , and got 12m/bs down and 4m/bs up. but that doesnt mean anything unless I'm inside my room.
Sounds like a good idea. Try this before the reflash. On the nook, how many access point do you see with 5 bars, if there is more than one then it's causing interference. Try setting a WPS pin in your router and in CM 10 describe in the "WPS Pin Entry" on your nook in wifi>touch the 3 dot in vertical alignment.

Bump....I'm having this problem with my NT too. OP did you ever solve this issue?
It was working fine for the passed 2 months, now it can't pickup any signals unless it sits a foot or so from the router. This sucks. Its basically rendering the tablet useless.
And so far what I have done:
Updated rom, wiped & reflashed, flashed new rom, nandroid back to updated rom. Only thing I haven't done is try a new kernel ( didn't think it would make a difference)
Fully checked router, all other devices on WiFi(5) are working fine in other rooms with 2+ bars.
Is there a way to check the input/output signal strength of the NT? Modifying this? It's starting to seem like a Hardware issue.
In the Google Play Store there's an app called "WiFi Analyzer" by FARPROC. Use that to check your signal strength on the router.
Bump, still having this issue, I was hoping by now there would be a solution. I'm just coming back to the tablet after many frustrating nights... To try and get it to work again.
Please this has got to be more common.. It used to work grrreat! My router is fine, my GNex has full bars, the Nook has 1 or 0 bars.
I just reflashed a new rom, updated kernal, same results. Is there a modem I need to flash or something?
What happens if you go back to stock using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1470910? Do you still get a weak signal then?
Has anyone else experience very slow GPS fixes if "Device only" mode is enable (for example because you don't want your data leaked to Google by enabling "High accuracy")? I thought this phone was supposed to support GLONASS, in addition to GPS.
I've always used GPS alone on my old Nexus One, and today I ran a test, with both devices freshly rebooted and in the same location. The N1 took 28 seconds to get a fix. The Xperia Z2 took 2 minutes and 16 seconds. This is with the latest firmware, .402. (With the previous one, FW:17.1.A.2.55, GPS worked a little faster, but still took about a minute or so, in plain outdoors with no trees or tall buildings around).
I'm having the same problem too using Strava. Can't get a fix at all

Based on my experience this is due to gps configuration file: fix that and signal get fixed much more fast and position gets more accurate... Before editing that file you need root and you should know what you are doing, because messing up with its content can bring longer time to fix and less accurate position. A better explanation is long and technical, so I kindly invite you to search more on this topic, if you're interested in
Hi, im having issues with my optimus, basically the wifi signal fluctuates like hell all the time. This happens whether im close or far from the router, with my hand over the antenna or carefully picking it from the side, no matter what I do, even if im in the same room just a meter away from my router both the wifi bars and a wifi app like Wifi Analyzer will show the signal will go from like -60db to -90db or more for absolutely no reason and go back to normal for no reason again. Of course if im downloading some file, streaming music or watching a vid they´ll cut. Also ive noticed the wifi icon briefly cutting for half a second or less. This is the first time I have this happening to me (it seems it happens to the Nexus 4 too), previous phones would have stronger or weaker signal but they were all constant.
I already ticked the deactive power saving/optimize mode on wifi settings, I already tried setting the frequency band to only 2.4ghz, I already tried changing my router channel to one less congested, I always do clean installs when changin roms. Nothing seems to work. This has been happening on CM10.1, 10.2 and 11 and pretty much every non stock or aosp based rom. Kernel and radio combinations seem to have little effect on speed but they all end dropping and stagnating at some point anyway.
Any idea? Isnt there like a wifi config file I could play with? I dont want to use stock based roms ;_;
Hello,
I've noticed a strange thing, that the more my battery discharges (starts at around 75% battery) the more unstable my network signal gets, and i start losing network data. at 100% battery 4g network and signal is quite good, in speedtests i get ~30mbps download and upload speeds. and at around 30% battery and below, i start having only 3g data or even 2g data and those are unstable, i get no connection and cant call/receive calls.
My problem is similair to other problems posted on this forum, but no clear solution was offered. Also, there was mention of this kind of problem on xda and some german forum when battery voltage is below 4.0 v network signal gets unstable
What i have tried:
- Flashed alternate modem files 466d, s26 , 18s etc. (almost all of them),
- tried a lot of different roms, small eui, stock 26s, stock 18s, small7 nougat, lineage os, remix 6.0, aicp etc.... ressurection remix, nougat, by andr68rus, it has 416d modem. I had best results with this rom so far, but quite not there yet (maybe it's because of custom kernel)
- Entered *#*#4636#*#* switched and set band to automatic, american, japan, pcs (all of them ) . no difference
- renewed APN settings. No difference.
-Entered APn settings mannualy
- fastboot erased modemst1/2 - no difference
- tried unlock and locking bands in QTOOL in diagnostic mode (maybe i did something wrong? but i doubt it)
-I have no case on phone, or other materials that could interfere with signal
currently on latest build AOSIP rom by moto9999999
Should i provide somekind additional logs? Please help a bro out i like the le max 2 very much, but the data and signal problems are driving me mad.....
Hey, it sounds like we have the same problem. I have to frequently charge my phone when the battery level goes down to around 70% in order for voice and data continue to work.
Maybe someone with stable network data and signal could tell me what is your battery voltage on different battery charge states? (100% , 75, and maybe 30%)
Using ampere app my battery voltage when 100% is 4.2-4.3V , 75% - 4.0-4.1V and 50% 3.9-4.0 V (this is where network data gets completely unusable)
Well, googled a bit, seems like this is normal behaviour fully charged battery with 4.2V seems to be normal and desireable, and 3V at low battery is normal. So i guess tinkering with the voltages won't save us
here is a catlog with modem filter. Maybe this causes the problem?
it looks like the battery can't get modem info, so it bugs wakelock, and keeps shutting down modem? What command shuts down mobile data, or restricts from going to 4g? when i try to reconnect log says action_any_data_connection_state
Ive tried to spoof battery parameters via terminal command dumpsys battery set status, to cap the status at current state. Unfortunately it didn't work ?
So i guess this is a hardware issue. Im hesitant to change the battery because its so much hassle to open the phone ?
Please share your ideas bros...
It does not make sense to me it's the battery issue. All functions I need work including WiFi that gives me very good connectivity even at 5% battery level (without the charger connected, of course).
Use the paid version of LTE Discovery : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.simplyadvanced.ltediscovery its 2 bucks and worth 10 times that amount.
I also tried everything when testing Miui v9 roms and It was widely acknowledged that there is a miui bug when installed on Leeco devices. LTE discovery sorted that issue and it's now my go to program whenever I flash a new rom. ( I haven't researched the specifics of what it does, but it works.)

I doubt it will help. Did you have the same issue as described?
Out of curiosity I bought and installed LTE Discovery. It has the “restart cell radio” function that resets the data connection and you can set loop it e.g. reset the radio every 30 secs.
Short story, it doesn’t help at all.
