Do we have a root yet, or will we for the H31 version? I found an article claiming a root on Android tech for the H31, I can't link yet, but it's easy to find.
And unlocking the bootloader, was an article on it also.
It was recently posted 27/07/2016 so fairly recent. Thanks guys.
H831 is on ice for the moment.. There's a bounty up for the root process!

There has been pretty extensive coverage right from the beginning about what G5 models were bootloader unlockable and rootable. This has been well discussed and documented elsewhere in the general G5 forums. Generally I understand that LG setup some models to have unlockable bootloaders (but not our model) just like they did with the G4. As a result, I have no faith at all in that posted "solution" - not found here at XDA. The forum/thread to follow regarding all things H831 is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/how-to/canadian-lg-g5-discussion-t3383425. If there is any news it will make a big splash there and elsewhere I dare say.

there's a thread on Google now. we need to deodex our rom for it.
T-Mobile LG Optimus L9 P769?
We really need a concise thread with links to what works on T-mobile P769.
But what's a P769BK? I mean I did buy mine off some guy from craigslist and did meet him at Burger King, that count?
Rooting was slight maze with a few steps outta place or missing tiny details.
Do we have an easier bootloader unlock, other than looking in the mirror and doing the hokey pokey?

BK is the T-mobile version of the L9.
And no I don't think there is an easier way to unlock the bootloader besides the 'hokey pokey' one
Whenever we do get the JB update though, we might have more options.
The P769 P769bk and P769bkgo are all the same phone they are wind mobile t-Mobile and T-Mobile prepaid respectively.

videos would help
I would like to try and unlock my bootloader on my p769. I've unrooted and rerooted my phone twice now so I'm use to flashing the kdz files. I think it would be easier if someone made a video showing how the mirrored image and "wonky" touchscreen actually look. Plus seeing a video with someone showing the steps would be very beneficial. The forums are great though. Lots of information here.
Sorry if I had time I'd make a video for you. Its really not super hard dealing with the inverted touch it just takes a while to figure out where you're touching vs where it registers. If you touch on the left it registers on the right side etc. And it is inverted vertically as well but not in exactly the same way the threshold isn't perfectly center.
Some guy in another thread said he heard from a reliable source we're getting JB update April 24th. I don't know how reliable his info is. Also the Mexican P768 just got the jb update minus the code to unlock the boot loader. If T-Mobile did the same thing it would not surprise me at all.
So in summation wait or don't wait

Welcome back my pal. After long time. :fingers-crossed:expecting something nice for L9 from you.
So I'd been around the forums and looking here and there trying to collect as much information as possible on going about flashing the ROM on this phone, and I can't help but become baffled by walls of text filled with links to other pages and tons of software to download. It's overwhelming to say the least. I don't remember my last Android phone ever being this much of a pain to get the process done and over with.
I'm sorry if I come off as a very lazy person, but I look at the General forums for this phone and there's like five different guides for like multiple variations of this L9 model. I find it baffling that all these phones share the same space honestly. It makes this all so confusing for me to just figure out what to do and what not to do in all this. What information is reliable and what is outdated.

Sorry you're frustrated. The L9 can be a frustrating device. It however is not a simple device to manipulate. However there is way too much information for me to cover in a single post. You will need to search for more details yourself. XDA pushes using their search feature before making new threads.
Obviously you must root the device and there are several methods around depending on the version of Android on your device. In order to install any ROMs your bootloader will need to be unlocked. That's the tricky part. And that's what most of the threads you are referring to are about. I cannot offer any advice at this time as to what road to take as far as unlocking your bootloader goes.
As for all L9 variants being in one forum I cannot address this. This structure is common throughout XDA. IE; There are almost a dozen variants of the original Optimus One. They are all discussed, managed, etc. within the same subforum. Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 subforum is the same way.
Best of luck in your endeavors.

Thank you for your reply. I guess I will have to further my research in these forums in order to fully understand the workings of this phone. But what you have typed helps me a good deal. My question becomes this, "Am I to root the device first to unlock the bootloader, or unlock the bootloader to root the device?"

Rooting can be, and I believe should be, done before unlocking the bootloader. With root you can at the very least install L9RecoveryInstaller_1.5.0.apk ( 2nd-init bootstrap recovery ) and then flash any of the prerooted CWM backups that are listed throughout the L9 forums. However, your bootloader is still locked. @kuma86 has made a themed stock JB ROM for P769 devices with locked bootloaders that can also be flashed with the recovery mentioned above.
I came across this link for how to root the Verizon LG G5 (VS987).
I don't think it's legit though because it references this link for unlocking the bootloader. It claims the unlock method is for "all variants," however I believe it only works for the T-Mobile LG G5 (H830).
I'm just wondering if anyone has tried this or knows anything about it.
This would definitely not work. If you follow the links, the steps require you use fastboot, which is not enabled on the G5. Sites like this are just trying to be the first result on a Google search for "[model#] root." Sickening.
Yeah, definitely frustrating! I want to get a G5, but having an un-rootable phone is not an option for me. I don't want to switch to T-Mobile to get one but Verizon's draconian style is pushing me away.
A root / bootloader unlock method is in the works right now... no word yet in terms of a timeframe, but some users here are definitely working on unraveling the device's security and encryption.

okay this I am waiting with bated breath for because I am hoping to make my phone much more efficient once this hits.
Greetings, XDA! I am new to both the XDA forums and to Android smartphones. I'm not entirely tech-illiterate, however.
This is the dilemma. I am on a quest to root my cheap, $29.99 TracFone ZTE Majesty ProPlus LTE (Z899VL) smartphone. I purchased it from Dollar General. It is running Android Nougat 7.1.1 with stock firmware. The phone has in no way been modified or rooted. Also, the bootloader is locked.
The task seems prodigious, seeing as I've read ZTE has made it surprisingly difficult to root their smartphones. If I understand things correctly, one must first "Unlock the Bootloader." ZTE has not offered any solutions but has instead deliberately hindered users from doing so. Although certain smartphone carriers allow and provide such methods for their users, ZTE has not been as obliging.
I have looked into "one click root" software, but I am dubious. One such program is KingoRoot, but most have claimed that KingoRoot is spyware by collecting the phone's Serial number during the rooting process. Nonetheless, this also may be inaccurate or old news. Such news leaves me nervous and insecure to use "quick and easy" rooting solutions. I've further looked into "Dr. Fone." I'm a little more confident in it.
With further research, I found that Chainfire sold their SuperSU software. Now SuperSU is not held as being as trustworthy. Again, this also may be inaccurate or outdated information.
Does anyone here on these forums know how to safety root the TracFone ZTE Majesty ProPlus LTE (Z899VL) smartphone?
Thanks in advanced!
Just bumping this thread. Not trying to be intrusive.
Thanks!

Thanks! This thread seems useful. I'll update y'all when I try it.
I currently own the US model of this device. I've done some digging in the forums but I never really come up with very much. If anyone could help I'd be willing to try just about anything to get this phone rooted as long as there's a recovery option. I've read in other threads that the European model can be rooted but the US version has no such luck. If anyone has anymore information please post a reply I would love to get a discussion started. Thanks in advance

Unfortunately, yes your appear to be right. I haven't been able to find anything on this device as far as the U.S. version goes anyway. Apparently, the European version has already been rooted with Magisk and an unlocked bootloader. Although no one has said much of anything about this one. I hope there some development soon!!
A shame these dont yet have bootloader unlock etc.. Its a great phone with Awesome specs on it.
I picked up a Like NEw one for 200.00 (u.s. sprint) version. I use it on t-mobile.

Well it has according to the LG website. Didn't try it out yet.

• LG V50S: LMG850EMW/LMG850EMWX for the European market
This is the LG G8X (check your device info).
We'll probably have to wait for Firehose to be released for LG Snapdragon 855 to have any hopes for unlocking on Non EU variants
No bootloader unlock available? Was checking developer settings and was able to turn on OEM unlock. Would really like to see some AOSP ROMs available for this phone.
I am very glad to be getting replies here. However, US models are still unrootable as far as I can tell its not listed for the US region but is listed for EU. So far no new updates. Please keep the conversation alive though!! Need a developer to start cracking down on this device please!
If anyone knows any developer's willing to work on this device I will quite literally give them payment to develop a working root method for this device. No joke. I'm not very sure how much power developers have over this device. But I would really love to find out.

You could probably start a Bounty thread like they did with the V50 and G8.

How would I go about doing this? Not all that familiar with Xda honestly. I rooted my old phone thanks to this site but I wouldn't know how to contact any developers on this subject.
A shame that this high end phone does not yet have root/rom. (in u.s.) You can pick these up fairly inexpensively (on ebay..as I did)
Hope LG is able to get bootloader unlocked one day or I may have to go back to Xiaomi / Oneplus
I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Well considering this same device is rooted it would likely mean that eventually we will have something. It might take awhile however. The EU version is definitely rooted and even compatible with Magisk having an unlocked bootloader is fantastic. Especially in this time. However since our country is a bit more controlling when it comes to phone data we may not see one until this device is obsolete. Meaning that LG will have made their money on it and therefore feel safe releasing a bootloader unlock officially..
