Marshmallow questions - Remix OS for PC

It looks like the latest version has addressed an issue that I had (no external partition access), which resulted in me rolling back to last 2.x version. I have a dual boot setup, with a shared partition between Windows and Remix, which I am guessing I can access again now.
Are you planning on re-implementing the app settings feature for window/full screen on start? I noticed that this was missing (unless moved somewhere else). I am not sure if this is connected, but the program "Music Studio" opens briefly in a window and crashes. The app needs to be in full screen mode to work, but I dont have a way of doing this, now that this feaure has gone. Perhaps the crash is unrelated. Can you add "Never" as a sleep option again please?
Thanks!

Try PhoenixOS instead, it has no problems with windows. If an app can't run in windowed mode, it will run it in fullscreen and won't let you resize it. I've only found few apps not supporting full screen.
In remix, go to settings > remix settings > windowed mode app list
And for future:
First look for it, then search forums, then ask on forums, not the opposite.

[Q] Launcher default set to Home, no Web button or .apk access

I rooted the Nook Tablet using adb and NookandZergy, installed the Go Launcher EX, and had no problems until an accidental tick of the "default launcher" box. I know there are several Q and A posts on the subject, but none seem to have my particular problem.
- I seem to have no access to the developer setting or anything outside of the standard Nook settings. I don't see a way to access the developer settings, though when I plug the NT into a usb port, the notification for developer mode does come up.
- I have no "web" access, as in, I have no ability to open a web browser. I believe I may have deleted it when installing the root using one of the DOS options. The same goes for the search function.
- Going through the "library" app, I can see the android system UI files, etc., but nothing that could seem to help. I also can't launch any .apk files. The NT cannot read the file and claims it is an unsupported format.
I know I have tgps_launcher installed, at least I'm 95% certain that I do. I cannot seem to access it, unless I'm unaware of all the ways to do so. I think I've provided all the info surrounding this. If I have to nuke it and reroot, I will, though I would like to avoid that option and am unsure how to do so.
Any help is appreciate. Thanks in advance.
How to switch the default home launcher for HomeCatcher once I've already set it?... This link is in my FAQ >> i would suggest you to read it.
~ Veronica
Thanks for the quick reply.
Unfortunately this isn't possible solution, as it requires use of the "search" function. The search function for the NT Home was removed during the rooting process and is unavailable.
For the sake of argument, I tried to look for some sort of search functionality and found nothing. The only option, as I stated before, was to use the "library" app search function. This only displays actual Nook apps, however (Crossword, etc.).

After that i removed stock launcher, cleaned my nt screen and got it a screen protector, never had that kind of issue again.

Clever! Unfortunately, that was a no-go too. I went through Nook Friends to get to the google sign-in page, from there I got a mock google.com homepage going and found a download, but none of the ones I tried would work, the psuedo-browser would just crash.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to remove the stock launcher, but my gf actually prefers that interface to the Go Launcher (it's her device, I'm just doing the heavy lifting for her). I think I'm going to cut my losses and do the manual reset from your FAQ. Going with that, are there any launchers that more closely resemble the original Nook Home, or maybe a method of importing some of the icons/functionality of the rooted stuff to the Home? In any case, I'm going to be looking putting AnyCut and/or NT Hidden Settings to have several backups in case this happens again.
Thanks again for your help.

You can use stock launcher and still have an alternative one for when you use it (lets say) and change between them by using homecatcher or another app like home switcher, you may want to go to B&N setting > search> searchable items and check more items there; also in the quick tips section of my FAQ tell you what app to use to add android apps to default nook home launcher.
BTW just checking when i opened the netflix app you get some links there to open browser but if its crashing then you probably have to start from scratch 'cause that's not normal behave anyway.

Had the same thing happen to a friend's NT that I had rooted for him, and besides all that you mentioned "Button Savior" was there but didn't do anything. You are pretty much stuck.
I ended up having to do the 8+ factory resets and re-rooting, and then restoring everything from TiBackup. At least once you have the drivers working on your computer it's really not that big of a deal. I read somewhere that it might be related to "Homecatcher" but not sure about that.

Desktop space in Remix OS

So, I've been in the last row of Desktop space in Windows for years now, but it never really filled.
Programs were added, and programs were removed.
So, No idea how Windows deals with shortage of Desktop space. (I should find that out too)
But, my Desktop space in Remix OS filled within days. ANd I don't know how to increase it.
Should I uninstall or disable My Desktop and add a launcher ? (it being a system core app and all, probably not a good idea)
And anyway, I love Remix OS shortcuts, quick to access , easy to find. One of the many wonderful things I love about Remix OS.
So, how do I go about it ?
The Start Menu/App Drawer exists, but I don't want to be clicking that everytime I've to access something.

I w'd create folder and move some icons in it
I'll do that

In your screenshot I see apps like "Docs" and "Sheets". In other screenshots I saw app "Skype", too.
I can install these 3 apps, but on my computer (Lenovo T400) they do not run. One or two seconds after I have started them, they stop working and disappear from the screen. Other apps like Dropbox, Evernote, K-9, Firefox, etc. run without any problem.
Did you (or someone else) run Skype, Docs, or Sheets successfully on Remix OS?
Haven't tried Skype yet, but Doc/Sheets work fine.
Have you tried running them in fullscreen mode - ON ?
And did you download those apps from PLayy store ?

You can use Nova Launcher and its ability to group similar apps. See my post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3330231
I tried it on 2 laptops, on 1 (i5, intel graphics) everything runs fine.
On the other one (old intel processor, old nvidia graphics) it boots up but some apps (skype, antutu for example) just close right after starting. Also i can create folders on desktop buf i cant open them directly, filemanager just closes like other apps. However if i start the filemanager and navigate to the folder in there it works.
I also tried it on an intel atom (server board tho) runs really smooth on there but both onboard network ports are not working. When i go to ethernet settings it shows som (random?) mac address, witch doesn't belong to any of the network ports. I hope my network chip will be supported in some future release.

[Feedback/Testing] Acer C720P

I've been running Remix OS from my USB 3.0 stick on a Acer C720P Chromebook. The most recent installer in the download on your website works fine when installing the contents to a USB stick, but my Chromebook wouldn't recognize it what-so-ever in the legacy boot menu. I had to extract the .iso and use it with Linux Live USB creator for my chromebook to finally recognize it as bootable. Once I got it booting, the touchscreen and touchpad both work great, but doesn't recognize the "F" keys, which is a bummer for trying to turn up/down brightness and volume. When closing my chromebook, and then opening it back up again, I sometimes lose my touchscreen function. Not sure what would cause that. Also, I'm able to place all of my widgets where I want them in the widgets app, but the only button I see is a + at the bottom, and then the grid for placement. After I place everything, and go back to the home screen, none of my widgets are there, but the app itself still has all my widgets there and where I've placed/resized them when I pop open the app again.
Apps that require a lot of input and manipulation like chrome, facebook, etc. constantly time out and pop up with a "Wait or force close" box. I suspect this is because I'm running the OS on the USB stick. Chromebook users have been begging for more of an android experience on their chromebooks for ages now due to Chrome OS's.... limits. Your OS so far has been very promising! Games from the app store run very smoothly, and work great with the touch screen. My only hope is that you guys create an install-to-hard drive option in the future as an option on USB keys... Hopefully with a easy-to-understand for-dummies partitioning interface for easy dual booting installation with other OS's.

Help me get my desktop launcher view back

I don't know what I did, but it seems like Remix OS changed its setting to show some kind of other launcher that is not the default desktop view. I attached screenshots and I have not downloaded any launchers. It shows me Launcher3 as the only option to set as my home launcher when I go to Settings and search the settings entries using the magnifying glass icon. You can see the attached screenshots for a bit more information. I don't really want to install it if there is an easy fix that someone knows of, but if it comes down to that as a last resort option, then I will.
Thanks!
revert to original desktop
Did you ever get this figured out. I have the same issue and cant seem to find a solution.
Thanks,
Brad
Just uninstall updates to the Remix WiFi app, and disable updates through the Play Store.
And please search the subforum before you post a thread that is a duplicate of others' threads (I have already seen about 3 threads about the exact same problem).

I've had the same issue and it appeared directly after the Remix WiFi update.
The update procedure seems to be a little bit broken. In "Apps" I saw two WiFi-Apps afterwards, the recent version and the new update. (???)
But you cannot uninstall the update in a normal way, you can only force quit.
So I installed "Root App Deleter", to uninstall the new update. But wait, "Root App Deleter" only showed the older version of the WiFi App -> I deactivated it first instead of uninstalling, didn't want to broke the whole system. After a reboot it was still the same mess. So I activated the old WiFi App again with "Root App Deleter", suddenly I saw it marked as "updated". Then I removed the patch, after another reboot everything was fine again. Ok, all Desktop Icons where gone.
Very very strange, this relation between WiFi-App and Desktopmode...
I really like Remix OS, it runs on my Beebox very nice and fluent and in comparison to Linux almost "out of the box", but the stable branch seems to be not that stable it should be.
And there is a lot of improvement needed for some more things..

You're right, this is really odd.
This doesn't sound like the other threads, since there they were able to simply remove the update without any hitches.
Just wait for the next Remix OS for PC release. Hoping they fix that issue. I bet it gonna happen on the Remix mini, player and 10. If they don't fix this issue.

Go to settings and select reset box (do not select my remix), select erase everything , this will bring back default desktop launcher and box to factory setting leaving all your apps untouched, it will erase only accounts credentials, just log in with your account to any app if needed after resetting box.
Same here has remix 32 bit booted left for a while and when I came back it was frozen so I rebooted and then it was Android style desktop instead of pc...
How can I get it back?
Also anyone know how to get player working? Can't get to to even open. only 32 bit boots on my pc.. (I have a 64 bit Windows installation)

It's fixed
I fixed it!
There will be 2 wifi apps in Settings > Apps
Go into one of them, there will be 3 dots vertically in either one of them on top right.
Uninstall the Update of the one with 3 dots, reboot your machine !
Thank you! After the update the Remix WIFI disappeared, so I was confused, but this solution worked.

Link from apps open in App, not in Browser (How to disable this?)

Hi everyone!
I recently updated my Sony Xperia X Compact to the latest (I think last official) android firmware, which is the following: F5321_Customized CE1_1304-8434_34.4.A.2.118_R2E
Today I wanted to sign in a particular app, which would forward me to the official website for me to log in, but the app instead opens a small windows, which contains the login possibility, but once filled out and sent the reques it says I need Javascript to do that.
Now doing this in a browser would not be a problem, but I couldn't find the option to turn this feature off.
So what did I miss?
Thanks for your help in advance.
Kind regards,
Steve
Sounds like the app is sending you to webview, not a browser. That is built in.
If goggle chrome is the default webview, then turning on JavaScript in chrome may fix the problem. If the default webview is the android system one, then there are no settings. Apps can control the use of JavaScript programmatically.
The setting to switch the webview is in developer options.

Thanks, now I am one step ahead, because at least I know what the hell this is.
But Chrome is the default browser, Javascript is enabled and I still can't get the app to work, while it says Javascript is not enabled.
Can I actually disable webview?
AFAIK, you can not just disable webview without creating trouble. as I said, you can switch which app is used for webview in developer options.
There should be a 3-dot menu when a link opens in webview and an entry to open in browser.

The 3-dot menu is not there.
On my previous version of Android I was asked what to do, or in some apps I could change the option from the start, I mean to open the links in an external browser, and not in the app itself.
Now I don't have the option.
And even I chenged the setting in Gmail, when I try to open a link inside a mail, it does it in the app, and not in Chrome.
Why is that?
I think you said took updated to the last stock release which I think is Android 8.0 (Oreo). As the major versions released, there were API changes. Webview started becoming a significant part of app development. I don't have any devices on Oreo and I don't remember what was an wasn't possible.

I appreceiate your help, and I don't want to drag this for too long.
My sister has the same model of phone.
She updated on OTA, I did it with Flash tool, but the same version number of firmwares are on both of the phones.
Now I know that the numbers are not all, since regions have a bit of different ROM's, for instance Central Europe and Asia or any other are a bit different.
My sister's phone works fine as before, apps open link in a Chrome powered window/app, and the 3-dot menu is there to do more, and to open in in the full Chrome app if you wish.
The same option is missing from my Android.
Now I try to go back to full stock Android and start from the beginning, but this is something I can newer understand, same version, completely different functions...

Try to find first which app is selected for WebView implementation, you will find it under developer options, in the case you have, for example, two apps like Chrome (not selected or greyed out) and Android System WebView (actually selected), then go to the settings of this last app and disable it, now you will have only Chrome working for this function. And in the case you don´t have installed Chrome then install it before to disable Android System webView.

First it was Chrome, Android System WebView was greyed out.
Than I disabled Chrome, ASWV was enabled, but the problem was the same, I wanted to open a link from an app, the small window appears, and it is useless, since I couldn't even advance from that page, since it didn't function properly.
Now what I really don't understand is why my sister had non of these problems with the latest Firmware.

Probably you should try by starting from the beginning to see if it solves:
- Deleting both apps using adb uninstalling commands.
- Then go to recovery and wipe cache (if you don´t take care about formatting data)
- Then Installing just Chrome or I should install instead of Chrome just a very little sized app like this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.android1.webview that uses a Google based preview with many features to go from.
- And also can help make Chrome as default browser if you want that links open ever on it.

Could this possibly help? It may be as simple as disabling the ability to draw over other apps.
