Grennify Facebook (system app) not working as expected - Greenify

I have an HTC 10 and some apps came pre-installed as system apps, like Facebook, Instagram and others... I have Greenify donation package and I also use the Xposed module.
I have enabled the option to greenify system apps and I'd tried to hibernate Facebook. It somewhat works, the app is hibernated successfully. But when I open it, it doesn't seem to wake up completely. I mean, sometimes the feed is not updated, I swipe to the notifications pane and pull-to-refresh but I get an error "Can't connect at the moment", I try to open an external link that someone posted but I also get the "Can't connect at the moment" error message.
At first I wasn't aware of what was causing this but I then remembered checking Greenify and I stopped auto-hibernating Facebook. Now, every time I open the app, everything is working. Which makes me think that the problem is within Greenify.
I don't know if the real cause is because Facebook is a system app on my phone or for some reason Greenify can0t properly handle hibernation on the Facebook app.
Can anyone advise?

[Q]Closing Programs in RAM for ever

Hi
i have a rooted android 4.0.4,LG Nitro HD
i installed too many apps in my phone
my problem is the programs and tasks which run in my RAM
for example i dont want yahoo gmail facebook apps run in my memory and check my notifications automatically when internet is available
it seems good but i dont want it happen
i just want to have these apps and run them whenever i need them
i tried to force close applications , but when i reset the phone all apps will run again
some application like google+ or youtube dont close at all
How can i manage my memory and apps in my favor ?
maybe go to settings, accounts and sync, and make sure that these apps aren't on auto-sync?
If as you say you have too many apps your best option is to uninstall those apps that you don't absolutely need.
It sounds like you're asking for two things: you don't want those apps to automatically sync and you don't want those apps to automatically start up. For syncing turn off the auto sync settings for those apps so that they will only update manually. Then use an app like Autostarts, SystemCleanup, or Gemini App Manager to stop those apps from automatically starting (on boot, after a change in your connectivity, etc.). If that doesn't work you could try freezing the app then unfreezing them as needed. You can use an app like App Quarantine to create widgets to freeze/unfreeze a particular app with one click.
Doing this will only get you so far. Like I said before you'll get the best results by getting rid of all unnecessary apps.

No auto-hibernation for Facebook Messenger

I recently switched to Lollipop and I noticed that Greenify doesn't auto-hibernate FB Messenger. I enabled auto-hibernation, and it works with all apps except Messenger. I'm rooted and Greenify is set as Device Administrator.
I noticed that if I were to manually hibernate the app, and then open it back, the auto-hibernation would work correctly. However, if I had a chat-head displayed on screen, then the auto-hibernation would be disabled.
I attached some screens. Basically: no chat-head -> works perfectly; chat-head displayed -> no auto-hibernation
The phone is Nexus 4 running CM12 nightly.
I didn't really pay attention while I was on KitKat, so I can't say if it worked before or not, but now I see this as an issue that I'd like to fix somehow. If donation version would make a difference, I'm open for that.

Messenger is not being kept under hibernation for some reason

Basically after one of the latest FB Messenger updates, it's being woke up for some reason. Unrooted, Moto X 2014 retail running 5.1 and running current 2.7.1 release - I can't pinpoint the reason of the wakeup since the device isn't rooted but apparently it said "Wifi was scanned" other then GCM probably.
For further info, FB Messenger version is 42.0.0.17.137. Had a couple updates since it started but still happening.

If you can manage to run this shell command with USB debugging enabled and connected, you will get wake-up monitor on non-root device:
Code:
pm grant com.oasisfeng.greenify android.permission.READ_LOGS

Yeah thanks, I know the culprit - it is facebook messenger. I don't even have the main facebook app installed to wakelock it, one of the updates broke greenify on no-root mode.

Do you mean auto-hibernation in non-root mode is not working on your device? I made some tweak and bugfixes for non-root auto-hibernation in 2.8 beta 1, could you give it a try?

Will do tomorrow and report back in this post.
What is happening is, I set a gesture shortcut on my launcher to manually hibernate apps with all due accessibility access greenify requires in non-root mode, whenever im turning off the display. I dont do auto-hibernation since everything used to be fine, until facebook messenger started misbehaving; no other apps other than that one will wake up the device.

Looks like auto-hibernation is working, but Facebook Messenger got woken somehow. Please identify the waker of Facebook Messenger with wake-up tracker, mentioned above. Thus I could give useful suggestion on that.

I thought I was the only one who is suffering from
Facebook app and Facebook messenger refusing to
Stay in hibernation! Am rooted, xposed framework
Version 73 up and running, boost mode working but
These two annoying apps by facebook were working
Well some months back but after some updates to
These apps, they keep waking themselves up from
Greenify hibernation.....
I started observing there behaviour and I discovered:
1) if you open any other user app that connects to the
Internet, Facebook and messenger come out of hibernation
2) if you hibernate without data connection, once you
Connect to the Internet facebook comes out of hibernation
3) if you open what's app, twitter, Instagram or any other
Social networking app, Facebook comes out of hibernation.
It's really, really, annoying.....
Am using the non donation app and wonder if the
Paid version of Greenify can stop this.......

Can you see any small text below the awake apps, like "Facebook is woken by XXX ... ago". You may need to enable the "Wakeup Tracker" option in experimental features first (not required on some devices).

I don't think I have that option in my two different phones
Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7100 and AndroidOne.
Again as I opened what's app which I had removed from
Hibernation earlier, hibernated every app, put on data
Connection, opened what's app in about 8 seconds
Facebook and messenger came out of hibernation by
Themselves.
Am using IvanMeler CM 12.1 latest version but the same
Has been happening in CMX, RR, Nameless rom etc
Mine pops like this, unrooted: it says wifi was scanned, sorry about the portuguese. Running the latest beta, like you said oasis.

@oasisfeng, see this sub thread also. http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/greenify/gcm-push-notification-behaviour-t3225994
He is also complaining of the same issue. From his explanation and also from the first image in post no.9 above, it seems that connection to the internet triggers the wakeup.
Just to clarify the issue.
I don't use Facebook or Messenger.

Help please: why is the Facebook always working after hibernated?

1. Rooted Nexus 6p with Xposed framework. I hibernated both facebook and Google apps. But whenever I turn on the Greenify to check the status, I always see Facebook and Google apps are shown to be not hibernating automatically. The reason is shown to be working. But I didn't open anything. Any ideas on how to deal with this?
2. I also see many apps are under woken temporarily group (most of them are google apps) even though I hibernated all of them. Is it because I used the shallow hibernation?

1. When an app is shown as working, tap and highlight it, then open the three dot menu at the top and tap 'put app into hibernation'. You will get a dialogue box with a warning and also an option to ignore its state. Check that and it will hibernate.
2. That is the expected behaviour when you opt for shallow hibernation.

b. Secondary Launch
c. Run in background
5. Reinstalled messenger app 4 to 5 times
6. Tried messenger lite as well

Having this EXACT problem and tried everything you did too. It's really bothering me, I have to open messenger every couple of hours just to find old messages that I should have replied to.
I noticed that when I launch it, there's a brief "no internet connection" message, but just like you I gave it unrestricted access, background permissions, and enabled wi-fi and mobile data to run while phone is locked. I have problems with WhatsApp too though, every time I open it it downloads a bunch of new messages.
Also I don't have Play Services. Installing it causes other apps to glitch out for me, it seems. Maybe this is my issue?
I am not facing any issue with whatsapp and wechat..
And my messenger is solved for now after contacting Honor team..
They asked me to give same access to Facebook app (i.e unrestricted access and background running) and it solved the problem...
You should try the same hopefully it will work for you
