Hello, I saw this post in the section for the honor 5x.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-5x/development/rom-cyanogenmod-13-0-official-kiw-l24-t3430945
Does anyone know if there is the possibility of porting the rom on our device?
If it were possible it would be a good step forward for our device.
Not possibles because CPU hardware on Honor 5x is Snapdragon and source code of kernel are opensource, not for Honor 7 the Fuc** Source code for the CPU Hisilicon Kirin are not opensource.
NEVER
NEVER
NEVER ?✌
I think this is hard but definitely do able, we could maybe port the CM build from the P8 lite when it's more finalised? This has another Kirin SoC which is similar to ours, http://forum.xda-developers.com/p8lite/orig-development/rom-unofficial-omnirom-5-1-t3400392
Or conversely we could build it from scratch, I think we have a lot of great devs here it's just bloody hard.
P.S. I'm not sure i follow is there any other source code we need? We have Kernel source out for the H7. Do we need anything from Hisilicon?
I have seen many tutorials about android dev but there is no mention of source code from the Soc Manufacturer.
Both the devices have different SoCs but now as Honor 7 has its kernel source code released, developers are working to make CM13 possible for Honor 7.

While Snapdragon has CM14, Mediatek has only CM12.1. Why Redmi Note 3 (Mediatek) is left behind?
Well, MediaTek is known of very bad in terms of custom developing. They just rarely releases source code.
So Xiaomi also didn't release source code for hennessy yet. And I'm 100% sure they won't do it. Without that it's hard to make stable custom ROM, because devs can't build custom kernel.
Also there are many more people who have SD than MTK and more people=better community=more custom developing
as said by kubap, Mediatek and Nvidia devices (except that nexus 7) won't get their source code released so developers can't build any stable ROM from source, that's why you get ported or no roms.
And MTK Redmis are banned in India right now. Whole India has only Snapdragon RN3. Snapdragon edition is the most popular all over the world. So the developers are mainly from China.
Hi devs, Thanks for filling up the development sections :highfive: with lots of new roms, I was wondering - nokia 6 also uses Snapdragon 430 Soc, is there any possibility to port its ROM to redmi 3s/prime ??. I'm just a beginner and I have no idea about rom development after kitkat, further I also saw @zwliew device tree for cm14, has anyone tried porting it?

They know, dev's waiting for caf patches and/or are working on it already.
I have a Lenovo s820 which is a quad core processor based on mtk 6589. Lenovo provided Open Source Code for Kitkat on their website but i would like to update it to lollipop or maybe further. I previously owned a MI4I(Ferrari) which originally had lollipop but the developers were able to modify the device tree to support nougat and now even Oreo. If anyone of you'll could provide the steps or resources to do so i would be grateful.
Looking forward to expert opinion on this thread.
The broken is the chip set. They never release the source code for their kernel changes. This is why you don't see alot of development for those chips.
Will there be a LineageOS for the Redmi 5 Plus soon? (Codename: Vince)
It got a snapdragon 625 so it shouldnt be that hard, isnt it? Or is something important missing so there will no custom roms soon?
If someone CAN build LineageOS for this device, but hasn't got enough resources for this, please contact me via PM. I'll able to set up a Server
(Just for Lineageos )
Good question - should be fairly straightforward in theory, but changes in displays, touch panels, cameras and fingerprint sensors will always present a unique set of challenges for an experienced dev considering there is no kernel source code yet. Redmi Note 4 development efforts will definitely help no doubt as certain blobs should be ported over without issue, but a bit of classic reverse engineering and testing will be needed to begin with. Building 7.1.2 shouldn't be too hard, but 8.0 will be a little trickier until codebases stabilise. Really hoping that MIUI 10 introduces treble support!
Will definitely be keen to test ROMs as they become available for the Redmi 5 plus though, seems like a decent successor to the Redmi Note 4 even if the lack of an SOC upgrade makes it a little boring as an upgrade - but they won't be selling the Redmi Note 4 forever.

Yea sure, no kernel source is a problem, and as it seems Xiaomi wont release any kernel sources soon anymore .. take a look at the Mi A1.
For my knowledge, treble will be ONLY available if the devices COMES with Android 8(.1)

but thanks for your answer!

did it come at least with 8.0?
Do we have information if the Lineage team is working on an official version? This seems like it will be a quite high volume phone.

I am planning to buy the redmi 5 plus ( aka Redmi note 5 in India), but i can't withstand miui. I hope there are developments regarding the custom roms for this device very soon. Currently on redmi 4x (Crdroid custom rom).
RR 5.8.5 for vince: http://en.miui.com/thread-1674896-1-1.html
I bought a moto edge 20 fusion from Flipkart almost a week ago. I've been watching this forum for a week but there have been no posts whatsovever. So this led me to wonder wether this phone will get any custom rom at all.
Even a bootloader unlock or custom recovery for this device would be much appreciated.
If anyone's seeing this post, please don't hesitate to leave your thoughts in the comments.

Yeah same thoughts, only hindrance is the MediaTek SoC. I read around and it seems MediaTek doesn't share their source code or libraries to public like SnapDragon which is necessary for custom ROM development. Also read that one Xiaomi device with mediaTek had great custom ROM support as Xiaomi provided the source code or other resource, so it's not impossible to build custom ROM. Let's hope Motorola and MediaTek provide resources.

Are you willing to test the kernel?
Sakthivel Nadar, has agreed to develop kernel and roms, he is maintaining roms and did bringup for these devices.
- Poco M2
- Redmi 9 Prime
- Realme 1
- Realme U1
- Realme C2
He is also maintaining PE officially for Redmi 9 Prime and Poco M2.
All the above devices are based on mediatek chipsets.
Here's his GitHub for reference.
