I have an opportunity to buy a Verizon branded LG V10. It would be my intention to use this phone on Ting by using a Ting sim card.
I have read that all newer Verizon phones are unlocked via the sim card. Is this true in my situation? Should I expect the phone to work normally with voice,text and 3g/4g? Any other considerations?

The Dell Streak is a GSM device. GSM is an abbreviation for "Global System for Mobile Communications". EDIT: This thread was initially a global post to a few Canadian Streak users trying to use the Streak on their networks. I did research into this, but did not double-check my research before posting. The network they were attempting to use (Bell Mobility) in fact uses dual networks utilizing CDMA and GSM. So I deleted the information directed towards the Canadian users in question and apologize to them for making the error.
Is it possible that a a carrier using a dual network may have different apn settings depending on the type of phone? Could it be that the Canadian Streak users are using settings that are apparently correct, but aren't because they have a GSM phone?
You may also want to mention the varying radio bands used by different carriers even if they use the same technology, for example T-Mobile and AT&T in the US. Both are GSM, but phones dedicated to one network can not use 3G on the other.
I thought about mentioning the frequency difference between AT&T and T-Mobile when I wrote the FAQ. However, since an AT&T/Unlocked Streak can see the T-Mobile network and a T-Mobile Streak can see the AT&T network, even though the Streak is unable to take advantage of 3G/HSPA in either case, I decided against it.
As for the APN settings, I honestly don't know on that one. I am sure that the APN settings will be different depending on whether the phone is using CDMA or HSPA+. But how different I couldn't tell you. There are more than a few Canadian Streak owners that have posted on these boards the last four days that have run into issues getting their phones to see the Bell Mobility network. In fact, the rash of such posts is what prompted me to write this FAQ in the first place.
The biggest issue I believe is that Bell's HSPA+ network is still new compared to Rogers', and thus not as well established.

Hi,
First of all, you must understand that GSM & CDMA are dissimilar technologies, whereas with GSM you can easily swap between carriers so long as they have the same/supported radio frequencies and your phone is sim-unlocked, this is not possible with CDMA. CDMA devices do not use a sim card to retain your account information or activation abilities. When it comes to CDMA (from my understanding) the ESN is key, the ESN must be added to your networks (for lack of a better term at the moment) ESN database. In the United States, most CDMA carriers will not add ESN's of other carriers phones to their network, your results may be different, because of your location. If your carrier were to allow or be willing to add the ESN of the DNA you obtain to their database than there is a possibility that it may work. (I am unsure if that can just be done or if it would have to be removed from Verizon's network & so forth, because I've never personally had to do such a thing)
There is a second problem though, the LTE radio / sim card interface. Because of the way these phones work on Verizon with LTE, I am unsure if you could even activate it, because it looks like the LTE sim is needed to authenticate your account to the carrier like a regular GSM phone. I have no idea how you would activate this phone without LTE / GSM on your carrier, even with the CDMA ESN added. It seems like it would be a double edged sword, but I could be wrong in this respect.
Also at this current time, this phone has root, and an unlocked bootloader through HTCDev, but is still **S-ON**.
Though none of those things have to do with you being able to use this phone on your carrier.
If your carrier was GSM I would say go for it because this is a GSM Global phone as well, but because its CDMA that you need I really incredibly doubt you'll be able to use this phone, but I may be wrong, but until someone else states otherwise I would look for a different phone.

Where can i find ESN? In Settings-About there is only MEID, IMEI, Phone serial number and IMSIAdded
I work for a CDMA carrier in the USA and with lte on the phones now, they truly act as gsm phones. If your CDMA carrier has lte then they can give you a sim and it will activate your DNA. However, if they only operate on 2g/3g then the post above me is correct with the ESN database and will USUALLY not activate the phone (in store sales reps usually don't even have the ability). Even if they have lte, activating another carrier's phone is not in the best interest of the sales Rep and they usually won't.

My carrier provides CDMA2000 1xEV-DO rev.B (I guess it is)

From my experience, they will not be able to activate it if they do not have lte, as they would need to have a settings file made for that phone to get it to work on their network. Nevers hurts to call and ask though.

There's a thread going on on the Vodafone UK forums about the Nexus 9 LTE not connecting to Vodafone UK on anything higher than 3G. I don't think this is very well known as the LTE version isn't as popular as the Wifi version, and then there are multiple mobile operators to choose from, so this might not affect many people.
Basically, a known working Vodafone 4G SIM in a known 4G coverage area will only establish 3G, never H, H+ or LTE/4G - this has been tested with multiple devices (I've got two here now) and multiple SIM's. The devices are unlocked, Vodafone don't require IMEI registration or anything like that. It should just be a case of putting the SIM's in. I've done all the checks I can think of (SIM's in another device - they get 4G, other operators SIM's in the device get 4G) etc.
Vodafone use LTE band 20 (and band 7 in a very few locations for LTE-A). Band 20 is known to work on the radios in the device because the same devices can connect to EE, who also use LTE band 20.
HTC are not interested as they say its a network problem, the device can register on EE and advised me to contact Vodafone.
Vodafone are saying its an unsupported device, I didn't buy it from them and don't really care, their first line support said the SIM is registering on their GSM network but never registers on the 4G network hence no coverage. After a conversation with second line support I was told that the device is trying to register on band 8 (900MHz) rather than band 20 (800MHz) which means that its a software/hardware problem - I'm a little bit dubious about this as how would they know unless it was negotiated by the SIM or something as their equipment uses 800MHz... ? I think he was basically lying to me to fob me off.
Google don't even have a way of contacting them about the device.
So as a consumer I'm stuck! Is there anyway I can debug the device myself? Can I see what bands are being used at different points in he SIM registering process with any software? Basically - any help or advice at all guys. It sucks to spend a load of cash on a device that half works, but what REALLY sucks is having no way to escalate a clear cut problem because there are so many companies involved!

I wonder if the GSM part can be unlocked like the Motorola Luge by changing ITEM_8322 in NVRAM from 01 to 00 to enable the GSM bands. I can't try this without the Motorola providede drivers.

Bad news I'm afraid; The phone is locked on verizon. VZW lock LTE phones which are sold in a box as a prepaid package... You would have to wait for 6 months or 12 months continuous service to get it unlocked by VZW. I know of no third party unlockers who have managed this phone so far.

Thanks, is it possible to flash other rom? I see talk about GSM version not this. If this has a GSM radio, can a GSM rom flash make it available? Looks like registeration software also block selection of GSM band. Can those who have registered with Verizon see the GSM option is available. it can be checked in -> Setting -> More -> Cellular Network -> Preferred network type. My unregistered Moto E shows LTE/CDMA only.

I don't know if this will fix your problem but their is a lower level (Testing > Phone Information) menu that should allow you to select other network types.
Pull up the phone dialer and type the below text
*#*#4636#*#*
The "Testing" menu should show up > Select "Phone Information"
Scroll down and "Turn Off Radio" > then select whatever network type you want > then "Turn On Radio"
Let me know if the LTE/GSM selection isn't there or this procedure doesn't work.

The Testing Menu does not pop up when *#*#4636#*#* is dialed. It looks like there is software routine which bypasses "Testing" menu and returns to the android home screen.
I know *#*#4636#*#* code should be universal because that takes to "Testing" menu in my OnePlus One and Nexus 4. Verizon seems to have done some trick to bypass standard android feature.
I have also tried scores of other *# codes but the most I have been able to get is to connect to the Verizon "call collect" voice prompt. My phone is still not registered to Verizon and I am not willing to fork out $45 for a prepaid plan to get activated.
At this point I am willing to do anything: unlock bootloader/flash recovery/root/ flash another rom if any developer is willing to help me get this phone working in GSM network (AT&T and T-mobile).

Thanks for suggesting. I tried several PhoneInfo app available at Google play store. I can see a lot of info about the phone via the app but don't see and option to enable GSM. Can you be more specific on what app you want me to try and the steps?

It works fine here with a Postpaid SIM on Unlimited data. (I'm a newbie still here, so can't post links)

They did, however, change a setting in the NVRAM (very likely) - see above where I said this:

If someone can figure out how to do so before the driver bundle is released by Motorola, please do so, throw a GSM SIM in there, and see if you have the option to pick GSM bands in the cellular settings afterward.

Can this even be unlocked with dialer code (like other GSM phones)? This is my first CDMA phone, I got this phone because my internet searches showed that all 4G LTE CDMA phone from verizon have GSM bands and can be used in ATT and T-mobile without any problem. Obviously, this is not turning out to be true. Also, I don't see any ebay service to unlock the US Verizon Mote E 2015; all service offered are for Europe carriers.

The link to Verizon's policy with regard to prepaid is misleading. VZW sell phones as either standalone items or as part of a prepaid bundle called "phone in a box". The Moto E, up to now, is sold as a "phone in a box"... This bundle contains a locked phone. Whether it is simple or impossible to unlock before VZW allows you is another matter, but if you go ahead and buy this phone from VZW as a "phone in a box" , anticipating you can use it with TMO or ATT straight away, then best of luck.

The 4GLTE-side uses SIM cards, but they probably removed the GSM 2G/3G radios and replaced them with the CDMA 2G/3G radios. Keeping both GSM and CDMA for 2G/3G would be more expensive for Moto, and considering they want to make this a budget phone...
I bought my moto e lte from kodoo from canada did a sim unlock by safeunlockcode.com it took them 2 days to send me the unlock code but it did work and today im really happy with it on my old lg optimus f3 i got 95% 2g on the t-mobile network now withe the moto e
I get 90% LTE but for now it just my first day on the t-mobile network
Alexandria bay to syracuse LTE all the way and i use to get 4g in watertown only and syracuse LTE and in the middle 2g only so big improvement and same thing with syracuse to erie.pa so for now it the best low budget phone . i use to hate t-mobile but with this phone it much better

Is your Moto E from Kodoo a CDMA version with SIM for 4GLTE? I checked with safeunlockcode.com but it says it can not generate unlock code for IMEI starting with among others 9900 and mine starts with 9900
I am now inclined to think that Verizon 4GLT (XT1528) does not have GSM bands.
Is there any utility to actually probe the radio bands in a phone? Most of the Phone Info App only report what activated bands are ( i don't think they show any information that the software layer is masking).

The phone is the same model and hardware as that shipped from Motorola's own store. VZW have the phone nicely locked up to their specification. The policy spells this out very clearly. You need to read the whole page, not just the bit about 35 prepaid. I'm sorry it's not better news for you but this phone cannot be unlocked for use outside of VZW for a year after activation until someone figures a hack
It just occured to me that I had not shared my personal experience with this model. I bought the VZW Moto E as a " phone in a box", thinking that this is fantastic value and that when I had used up the month's service, I would go ahead and switch to T-Mobile, assuming that VZW were obligated to unlock all LTE phones due to an agreement with the FTC. When I discovered my plan would not work and after a LOT of discussion with VZW, they agreed to refund me and I bought the Moto E directly from the Motorola store. VZW were legally in the right based on the conditions displayed on the web and in the terms of sale, and in fairness they didn't have to offer a return but they did anyway. Also it should be noted that the bootloader on the VZW edition is locked meaning no custom ROMs
Long and short of it is that the Moto E 2015 is a great phone for its price point but if you want to unlock it for other networks or to unlock the bootloader, buy it from Moto, not VZW

Help. How do you unlock a pre-owned, deactivated, Sprint Zing (Netgear AC771s) mobile hotspot ?!??
The last owner had this hotspot activated on RingPlus (Sprint MVNO), but then RingPlus went out of business and stopped providing cell service, and according to the press release, all the RingPlus customers were automatically transferred to Ting service. I don't know whether the previous owner of this hotspot continued service on Ting. I supposed I should ask him.
Anyway, this hotspot is made for work on something like 200 mobile networks worldwide, it supports some LTE bands, CDMA, 3G UMTS, and 2G GSM. It needs a SIM for all but 3G CDMA. To get the most out of it, the best thing to do is to unlock this hotspot for use on other mobile networks.
The device is NOT blocked due to financial, lost, or stolen. It's paid off and old enough that it has served its minimum time on Sprint to be now eligible for a SIM unlock for use on other networks.
I've heard about the DSU (domestic SIM unlock) and MSL (master subsidy lock).
I'm not a sprint customer. I'm a customer of an MVNO which runs on the Sprint network. However, trying to activate this hotspot, on their online portal, failed. Their customer service is difficult to reach and very slow at replying to messages on their forum.
How do I get these DSU and MSL unlock codes for my Sprint Zing Netgear AC771s device?
