There are many good looking themes in theme store but almost everyone of those have hideous icons, so i was trying to find a way around & this worked.
- Download your theme
- Go to root folder of your device & then open data folder, further go to "app" folder, search for "appicon" & it will show you folder names ending with the same, delete the appicon folder that belongs to the theme you have downloaded(normally when we download the theme it creates 3-4 folder by the name of theme developer , we are looking for something like com.developer.appicon) , reboot your device & done, you will have stock icons back.

hey there...i was wondering if anyone could take a sec to help a n00b out...
i've been working on a rom (6.5 build 23544) using Ervius visual Kitchen for gene by BesFen for a few days...i've finally found all the packages i want and made a few ones myself...i made a test rom and its running well...
but there's still one huge hole left in my finished build...so i just needed some help i.e. needed to know a few things
1. where do i change the the default splash screen (the orange windows image) that pops up after the boot screen
2. where to replace the startup gif image and wav sound
3. how to set an external theme as my default and removing the inbuilt themes that come bundled with the 6.5 builds
4. how to change the default icons (i have an icon pack as well a cab file of the same)
5. if there is a way to set up a shutdown animation and splash screen in the kitchen before creating the rom
6. edit any other settings and tweaks while still in the kitchen phase
7. change the start menu icons for the softkey buttons and start menu
8. edit the taskbar and softkey bar to make it transparent on the today screen as well as inside the menu
9. remove default ringtones and replace them with our own
i tried searching the net and going through the posts here but i'm drawing blanks...
i'd appreciate any solutions that come my way!!
solutions!!
found a few solutions myself...a lil' help from the boards...
if anyone else is interested in them, here they are-
1. the splash screen can be changed by replacing the welcomehead.96.png in the "SYS\28230\dpi_96_resh_240_resv_320\COMMON\Redist_dpi_96_resh_240_resv_320\" folder file with your own
while you're at it, you could replace the complete.96.gif file too
*but make sure that you have edited your images to the correct format and resolution before making the changes
2. the animated.gif and bootuphtc.wav files in the "kitchen\OEM\OLDGENE\COMMON\OEMOPERATORS" folder can be replaced with your own
4. add your icons in the "kitchen\SYS\28230\dpi_96\COMMON\Base_DPI_96" folder thereby replacing the default icons
*make sure that the names of the icons you add to this folder is the same as the default icons
6. to change the rom's date and give it your own name, make changes in the "mxipupdate_OEMVERSION_100.provxml" file in the "kitchen\OEM\OLDGENE\COMMON\OEMVERSION" folder,
this can be done by opening the file in notepad and making your changes in the 'value' section
do correct me or suggest an easier method if known to you
as for problems 3,5,7,8 and 9...research and testing is underway...hope to get past that hurdle soon...
use the attached folder and put it inside OEM
solve your ringtone by editing the *.rgu file and initflashfiles.txt file available in this folder
solve your theme problem by editing the *.rgu file and initflashfiles.txt file available in this folder
Note: I have used two different mp3 file for ringtone n message notification

tried it out and yeah it works...thanx!!
any idea about gettin transparent task bars and menu bars??
i wanted to make them completely transparent, not transluscent...
i've gotten transluscent ones working in the start menu but i can't do anything about the today screen!!
i am also searching how to add new theme...but i found this is..

you could just add the theme you want ( in .tsk format) in the kitchen\SYS\Themes_Lang_0409_DPI_96_RESH_240_RESV_320 folder...
tried it out and worked well...
all you have to do is go into settings\today\ when the phone starts and select which one you want...
as for setting your own theme as default...clueless...
guessing you have to extract all files from the theme and place them in the kitchen\dpi_96\COMMON\Base_DPI_96 folder and edit dsm and rgu's from somewhere to set it as default
personally...i've found a loophole to the whole theme problem (pardon the pun) so i don't bother with it anymore
more solutions...
3. to remove the inbuilt themes like dvf green, vera wang red, etc. etc. just delete the theme_dpi_96 folder in the kitchen\SYS\23544\dpi_96\COMMON folder...
to add your own themes copy the .tsk files into the kitchen\SYS\23544\dpi_96_resh_240_resv_320\0409\Themes_Lang_0409_DPI_96_RESH_240_RESV_320 folder and delete the inbuilt .tsk files you'll find there
*NOTE*
for those who want to have a modified theme, i suggest editing the .png images in the folder mentioned below...the ones with "classicblue" "default" and "black" at the start of their name to your preference and leaving the classicblue.tsk file untouched so that this theme becomes your own in case you install another theme and want to go back to your edited theme
7. edit the .png images in the kitchen\SYS\23544\dpi_96\COMMON\Base_DPI_96 folder...
the softkey icons are the ones with names like default_toolbarIconBubbleButton.png...they're all around the same area, so easy to find...
for editing, i suggest using photoshop of you have it, else an easier alternative is the paint.net editor available at http://paint.net
8. now i couldn't get a transparent taskbar and softkey bar on the today screen without using titanium but i did manage to get it to be fractionally more translucent but editing the .png files found in the folder mentioned above
i'll attach the files if needed...
my ROM's coming along so i'll keep you posted with more solutions as they come along...have fun cooking!!
Suggestion
Remove all landscape theme files, bcs no-one uses the GENE in landscape mode and it will make the ROM lighter in weight

First, download APK manager (search xda or google) and learn how it works. It's really straightforward, just mess around with it by dropping some apk's into the "place apk here for modding" folder and use the options to see what they do.
After that, find an AOSP rom and gapps, and put all of the apk's that you want the icon from into the modding folder, and extract each one. Now go to the projects folder, where you will find a subfolder for each app. In each app's subfolder, find the images folder, locate the app's icon.
Next do the same thing with the Sense version apps, locate the icon in the images folder. Take note of the name. Then go back to the AOSP icon and change the name of the file (if needed) to the same name as the Sense version icon. Last copy/replace the AOSP icon over the Sense icon, rezip the apk (using apk manager), push it to the /system/app folder on your phone (either with ADB or a file manager on your phone, if you do it either of these ways, a flashable zip is not needed), reboot, and you're done.

I think there's some threads around xda on that, I just always theme stuff for myself cause I don't have time for people's requests so i've never looked into making flashable zips. Probably not too hard though. Have fun!
hi,
sadly i don't get it done to download and copy a miui locker theme on my phone and apply it...
i already read a lot about miuilocker, how to apply local themes, edit/translate themes etc.
basically it's like this:
1. Download Theme
2. IF *.mtz file copy on your phone to MIUI/Themes <- my folder is called "theme" but I find all my downloaded (over miui online) themes in it, so it should be the right one.
3. open MiLocker
4. go to Local Tab an select theme
sadly i NEVER find the theme i just copied in the "local" list
in some guides it says you have to click "edit theme", in my version of milocker there is nothing like that so i just assume thats for an older version of milocker.
i also tried translating a theme ( http://androidforums.com/android-themes/469539-how-miui-milocker-theming-customization.html )
i apply all the steps on pc, replace all chinese letters with english ones, save everything again as zip (no compression) and rename them to what ever needed.
on my phone there STILL are chinese signs...
now if i copy the theme again from my phone and extract it and look into the manifest.xml there are MY LETTERS, no chinese at all, still the screen on my phone shows chinese letters..........
i own a Moto G 8GB Stock Rom, nothing changed.
would be nice if someone can help me!

I have exactly same problem and would love if someone find solution to it or how to apply custom lockscreens from mtz file
you would have to install mihome or miui home launcher go to themes and upgrades and click refresh and on mi locker themes youll see the themes you installed manually
Hello, I just installed themer yesterday. It is now one of my fav apps of all time xD .
However, today I been trying to side load themes into themer without success, as i gathered from some websites and from a video by the one of the peeps at mycolorscreen: you just copy the zipped theme folder onto the folder called " Exported" and then to "Zips "(found in mycolorscreen->themer, on the phone), with that done the new themes should be visible in the themer app in My themes>Exported>zip option .
My problem is that I can't find any folder called exported or export inside my themer file directory in the phone, I checked everywhere , there is nothing like that. So I ended up creating a folder called export and then a folder called zip inside it , but still I cannot access this from the themer app ( Mythemes-> exported->zip->choose the new app ) .
Please help !
MyColorScreen/Themer/Exported/zip is the right folder an i think its case sensitv.

Hi,
Try this:
1. Long press on the homescreen - Advanced - More - Export Theme (give it any name).
2. Once saved, it will create a .zip file in the /sdcard/MyColorScreen/Themer/Exported/zip folder.
3. Place your .zip files into the same folder.
4. To find the themes - look in the My Themes - Exported section in the Theme Browser.
Good luck!

Thanks a lot for the help bro, much appreciated.
I loaded the app, but some of the app button shortcuts look weird, all of them has an icon of a folder, but when i press on them they seem to be shortcuts to google play, or youtube or stuff like that.
Once again, thanks for the super fast reply.

When sideloading themes, you can often get one that doesn't follow Themer's guidelines, meaning that the user will set shortcuts to his/her personal preferences.

I can't find the My Themes tab or the Exported section
Sent using XDA One
First of all the pre requirements are :
You should have a marshmallow running device in this case i have
non root samsung galaxy j7 2016.
You need to have 2 different themes of your choice either paid or frre .
You can apply a theme you want which you can easily download from theme store. After downloading backup the theme components, next you download the theme from which you want your appicons, backup this theme components also.
Now the theme that u have applied , open it's component thst is various apk's inside it such as home, appicon etc. Copy the name which appicon apk uses.
Now using apk editor pro open the appicon apk of the theme you want to have icons of, open it full edit as we need to edit it's manifest. After opening it go to manifests 2nd line from top and clivk on it in package line erase the present name and paste the nane you previously copied from another theme.
Now build the apk and install by first removing the previous installed apk and then install the latest build.
Now reapply the theme and restart your device you will have your loving theme but the icons will be of the other theme which you wanted.
Thank you
