Hey guys, I've been wondering: Does anyone else have the feeling that sometimes, the entire Android system and many apps get laggy when the WiFi or mobile data connection you're on is having issues? Google Maps, for instance, frequently lags and/or stops responding (complete with "System UI is not responding. Force close?" pop-up) when I'm in my car on mobile data, but never when I'm at home with stable WiFi.
Has anyone else noticed this? If so, have you found a way to work around the issue?
This problem has plagued me since HTC G1 days and has followed me through the Motorola Droid, HTC Desire, Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 5, so I know it's not device- or ROM-specific...

This is likely more a Google Maps issue, but since I'm more likely to get response from this community I hope someone here can help me out.
I'm using a Dell Streak, running Android 2.2 under 'DJ Steve's 1.9.0 ROM'. Note that I have also posted this to the Subsonic forum (see below).
When running Google Maps, Google Navigation, or Copilot, the entire device will hard boot (no FC, just a cold crash often requiring a battery out reset). I've narrowed this down to happening when there is network activity. I can somewhat reproduce this by running Subsonic with the Navigation - since this is a normal setup for me in the car, it's annoying that the combination crashes the phone!
With Google Navigation running, when Subsonic hits up a new track and thus starts to download the next on its cache list, the phone crashes after about 2s. I'm thinking perhaps there is some deadlocking over the data connection. Note that I don't have to have Subsonic running to see this problem - it just makes it happen faster!
I’m going to try using a WiFi connection instead of 3G by creating a hotspot with my wife’s Android phone to see if it’s a 3G connection issue.
Does anyone have any suggestion as to how to better diagnose this problem or a potential fix?

Honestly not sure what is causing your crashing, when I had 1.9.0 with perfmod enabled (now on 1.9.1-b7) never once while using navigation did my Streak crashed. I have used my Streak as GPS for multiple trips from VA to SC and on the west coast due to my job. You stated it happens all the time regardless of subsonic is running. That leads me to believe it is another app running in the background.
Unless somebody else has a better idea, start freezing (with Mybackup Pro or Titanium backup) apps one by one, until stops crashing. I recommend you re-enable each app after you obtain new map data. Reason you need to ensure that it is not a combination of apps causing the issue, if you leave multiple apps frozen and find the one you believe to be it, could wind up having repeat issue once your re-enable all your apps.
I'll try the freezing approach, that's a great suggestion, thanks. I have perfmod enabled too - was overclocking with SetCPU, but thinking that might be the issue, nixed that on the last rebuild. I've done numerous factory resets and still have the issue.
Has anyone experience random reboot issue with stock rom,
I've tried nearly every rom out there, and still get random freezes & reboots. StarBursts rom seems to be the best for me.
I have stock Verizon GT 10.1 4g LTE. No problems here.
My tabs been freezing on me and causing me to have to reboot it multiple times per day which is really getting on my nerves now its reminding me if my windows mobile days. Anyone has any suggestions. It seems to happen alot when switching home screens and on the web broswer
Hi Guys,
I've been an active "reader" of the forum, but never really wrote anything until now.
I've noticed that ever since I flashed my rom to Jellybean (specifically super nexus 1 build 5 and super nexus 2 build 2), my 3G connection seems to disconnect rather frequently. For example, when i open my facebook app, it says "cannot connect to server" and I have to refresh it for it to work. This problem disappears when I connect to wifi. This is weird because every time I flash a rom I do a full data/factory reset and wipe cache and no one with my rom appears to be having this issue. I never had this issue when I was using gingerbread.
I am using the default CM kernel that comes with it
Can you guys tell me what might be an issue and how I can solve it? I know its a small issue, but it just annoys me sometimes.
Flash different modem.
My phone currently has a lot of data issues ( non-wifi based) where data will frequently cut out and will require a restart to get it working again ( switching to airplane mode sometimes fixes it). Does anyone know if this problem is most likely a Sim-card issue or a phone issue? Or is this a common problem/ any way to fix it? Thanks!
--Also on a side note, are others seeing their stock messaging app constantly crashing?

I experience the messaging crash at random when I hit the back button in the messaging app. As for data, my phone will randomly lose its signal and would also say I'm missing my sim card. I called AT&T and they gave me a new card, but I still experience random signal disconnections.

I have been running Android Revolution on my AT&T HTC One (M8) for several months without any issues. Late last week my phone started randomly exhibiting some strange behavior. The most problematic is the fact that certain apps cannot establish their required connections. This problem did not exist prior to either Thursday or Friday of last week (5/14). It is possible that this was caused by an update, but I have no idea which one or how to check what was updated on a specified date.
As for the problem itself, my best guess is that a specific port (like 443) or type of traffic is somehow being blocked. However, I don't know how to troubleshoot to determine what specific traffic is being blocked or what is blocking it. The issue exists over wi-fi and mobile data. Everything else connects fine. Apps like Facebook, DI Radio, Chrome, IMDB... all function normal. The apps that I have discovered won't connect are:
PayPal
Pandora
Twitter / TweetCaster
AmEx Serve
Swype + Dragon / Nuance (voice recognition)
I have been searching and haven't found anything close to a solution or guidance. If anyone has any ideas on what is causing this, or even how I can troubleshoot to find out more detail about what's happening I would really appreciate the help.
