Is there any way to trim message conversations? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a lot of messages. Like a ton. It takes a long time to back up and even longer to restore all of them. I was wondering if there was a way or an app that let's you trim conversations down to the last 5,000 messages and only keep 5,000 per conversation. This would've been done already but textra doesn't have that feature yet (I just asked the devs about it today). I've tried downloading handacent and other SMS apps that have the auto trim feature but don't think they trim unless you're actively receiving messages and I'm now right now. I'm on an lg g3 fulmics 5.1. (Android 6.0)

Impossible to see SMS receieved time for previous days?

Hi all, I'm just wondering if anyone can help me figure out this problem.
I can't seem to find a timestamp on SMS messages for any days other than the current day. So if I received a message at 7.01am today I can see "07:01", however if I want to look at a message I received a few days ago, all I can get is "Oct 3", and bringing up the menu and clicking "View message details" still only shows "Oct 3".
Is there a way to show the entire timestamp? This seems like a terrible oversight if it's not possible to see what time an SMS was sent/receieved for any day other than the current day.
+1. Incredibly annoying "feature".
I am sure it is available in the sms logs, it is just not being shown.
I guess they did it to remove clutter, in the assumption that people wouldn't care about the timestamp of messages from yesterday, but that is just not true. Particularly when it has just gone past midnight!
It is the recency of the message that is important, not whether it arbitrarily happened today or yesterday.
How about ChompSMS and those other SMS apps, do they show them?
Yep!
Handcent SMS is the way forward. The stock messaging app just doesn't cut it...

[Q] Group messaging problems

I love this phone, been on android since the olden days of android 1.0, but I;m having a severely annoying problem with my group messaging app. I can receive and view pictures and texts from my friends perfectly fnie in the group thread, one of which has a Sprint GS4, but when i go to respond, it sends them out as if I had the "individual messages" tab selected in the thread. I've made sure 100 times that I have the settings correct, that I have the "group message" tab selected when I send the text. Everything looks like it should be in working order.
Phone is basic, unrooted, regular messaging app in use at all times, it still doesn't seem to work.
has anyone else ran into this problem (or more specifically its solution)??? My friends and I use group messaging all the time for plans and sports, meetup spots etc... And i would really like to be able to contribute without sending out 5 or 6 separate texts.

i have the same problem
anyone solution ??
Bump, still hunting for an answer other than use use a different messaging app. I'm not a fan of GO SMS and I am having to use the Verizon Messages app for the time being, which is poorly built but works with group messages
Bump because I'm STILL hunting for a solution to this. The app Textra was working for a few days but it suddenly stopped.

I just got my S4 and found out my messaging was doing this as well! I've tried Textra and that did not help for me. Is there any fix for this? Are there any ROM's that fix this issue?

[Q] Media & Group Messaging Broken

Hey, folks. I'm new, obviously.
I recently rooted and s-offed my LTEVO. I installed TWRP 2.6.3.0 and CM10.1 Stable (I also installed the exFAT fix). The problem I'm having and that I'm reading a lot of people are having is with MMS. I'm not sure if group messaging falls into MMS or SMS but I can neither send/receive picture or media messages, nor can I SEND group messages (although I can receive them). I'm not sure what's going on behind the scenes, whether there's a fix that I just haven't found (I have done extensive searching/trolling before making a profile to ask this question) or if this is a common issue which may have been resolved in newer builds. Essentially, I was wicked pumped when I found out that I could receive group messages from people because the stock, unrooted LTEVO would receive "multimedia messages" from everyone participating in the conversation individually instead of all within the same thread or whatever you wanna call it. But, as I've come to find out, I can't actually participate in these group sessions, I can only SEE them organized within one text thread (which is still better than stock, but disappointing that it doesn't take one seemingly essential step further). Also, I thought it was just crappy Sprint service, but it seems that I can't send or receive multimedia messages (that aren't in text form). I was excited, again, to see that the preview of the image I was going to send was minimally compressed, if at all. I was sick of sending people screenshots of blurry, illegible caca, but again this feature falls short and now I can't actually send or receive any form of media.
Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong, or maybe what I'm just NOT doing right. At any rate, if anyone could shed some light on my unfortunate situation that'd be stellar. I'm forced to use Voxer for the time being.
I'm having the same problem. Any assitance is welcome!
I can't say I completely understand your issue but will give an answer with my best guesstimate as to a fix.
You are trying to group messages with others that have iPhones. iPhones natively send texts as mms while android natively sends as sms. Hence your problem (I think).
You need to use a third party messaging app. There are a couple that handle this but I use Go Sms Pro. It allows you to send and receive texts all while staying in the group without splitting the messages.
Once you install go sms pro you need to change a few settings in the app (you can find the correct group settings on Google easily) and disable the notifications from the stock messaging app (so you don't get multiple notifications for one text).
Hope this is what you were asking about as it is an issue for a lot of people.

SMS messages per hour limit removal

I send bulk SMS messages via Textra to my daughters soccer team. The group consists of 36 contacts so the 30 message/hour alert popup is triggered and I have to allow Textra to send the messages. I have poured over the forums and internet looking for a way around this to no avail. Mods to get around the limit are plentiful for Lollipop and down but are non-existent for MM and N. I am currently running Slimrom 7.1.1, which I love. Does anyone know of a ROM with this limit defeated or a way to alter some code in the ROM to do so?

Text/SMS & Call Blocking based on Schedule (and Google Contact Group)

I am currently using an awesome SMS/Call blocking app called aFirewall Blocker. It seems that the developer (I think it was Thomas Tong @thl16888) has discontinued the app and it has been removed from the Play store. It's unfortunate, as the app is now causing issues in Android Pie and I would have loved an update.
I am looking for a replacement app that can block texts and calls and put them, without notification, into an archive section that can be restored later. Being able to setup the blacklists with google's contact groups would be great. I know on my Samsung Note 8 the default "Messages" app has a feature like this but it does not allow scheduling. I need it to be able to perform the blocking on a set of schedules. Such as nights and weekends.
For example, I have set up aFirewall to block all my work contracts (as defined by the google contacts "work" group that I set up) on nights, weekends and optionally another schedule for vacations. All texts and calls from work people go unannounced and are "archived" or hidden until I decide to open pandoras box when I am ready. I can then read the texts and see who called and un-archive the texts back into my main text message conversations. The app even had the ability to send an auto-reply, which was great for vacations.
The point of the app is to keep my sanity and avoid having to stress out when I see people constantly and rudely trying to bother me at all hours of the night and weekends.
Anyone know of a good replacement? Even if it is a side loaded, and not officially accepted by google, app?
