Global developer Rom vs Chinese Developer Rom - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Hi I will receive my Redmi note 3 pro prime... 32gb/3ram snap650 tomorrow.
There so many versions of this phone that looking at the Rom's it's quite confusing with all the have the different boot loader unlocking ( I will go with official - I got the SMS ), different processor variants, different FP sensor, support for quick charging etc.
Anyway I would like to start of with any of the official Rom's and maybe in September after my holiday move on to CM or other. Which version I should go to are there any difference in options between the two ( apart of lack of gapps).
Any advice on different ROM's would be great!
Thanks

Go for developer china it has more functions but i prefer CM because i dont like Miui and now there is support for the new sensor in CM from santosh

Can the chinese developer version be flashed on global version Redmi note 3 (SD 650)? Also shuld i flash back the global developer ROM to unlock the bootloader officially..(i got the SMS)

Basic difference that I found are
1) you can get music online
2) you have accelerated downloads(not sure how much accelerated though )
3) you can install font and all themes (best one imo.. there are some amazing themes that you can't install in global )
With all this said I would not go for China developer ROM actually.
I gave it a try and trust me there were tons of ads ..and then also you'd the problem of installing Google apps (like contact sync and all)..go for global dev ROM or Xiaomi.eu Roms ..I didn't try Xiaomi.ru roms personally but I read they are much better

EU roms are the best.
-based on china dev
-minimum Gapps, all chinese bloatware & MIUI bloatware removed
-optimized with various fixes and tweaks
-faster than global dev
-regularly updated
-working theme store.
don't bother flashing any kernels. stick to stock...variety of small bugs with custom kernels.

chines Rom have some more functions

Some help understanding my Redmi 3

Hi guys,
Long time Android user here - I've recently sold my Blackberry Priv and have picked up a Redmi 3. I'm struggling to wrap my head around the ROM terminology for this device.
- I am based in the UK, I can see in my device settings that I am on a 'Global' ROM
- I can see that there is a 7.3 version of miui available for this device, but cant find a reliable download source (currently running 7.2.7.0.0 - LHPCNDB)
- Will Miui 8 be released for this device (Global?)
- If I choose to flash the device with a Chinese version, what will the differences in the software be?
- The BL unlocking processes confuses me - do I literally need to send a request to Xiaomi for this to be done or can I do it via a tool?
I think this is all for now - I'd appreciate some help clearing up the above questions.

There is no official global rom for this device at the moment. Your rom seems to be a cooked room by the seller.
Official rom comes with English and Chinese only (and a lot of Chinese useless apps)
My suggest is to flash official developer rom (you need the developer rom to unlock bootloader), unlock bootloader (yes you need to apply for it to Xiaomi). Once unlocked, install twrp and a stable unofficial eu rom (this one has no OTA but is clean off Chinese apps).
If you have the no-pro version, you can also try the CM12 from this forum. It seems to be a very good rom.

You should apply to unlock your bootloader first; just make a Mi Account and go through the process. You might have to wait a few days (I waited 6). Some good tutorials are available on the MIUI forums or here on XDA.
After you've unlocked the bootlader, the next step is to flash a custom recovery such as TWRP (also on XDA), then a custom ROM of your choice. I reccommend installing xiaomi.eu if you live in Europe for the good localizations. Otherwise you can install the Chinese Stable / Dev ROM at your choosing; it has English language but some of the Chinese apps might annoy you. MIUI8 has been released for the Chinese developer ROM, and therefore the xiaomi.eu custom ROM which uses it as base. A CM 12.1 build is also available on XDA if you're into that, although it has some bugs regarding the camera, fingerprint sensor, and GPS.

Best custom rom & custom kernel for RN3 Pro SE (kate) 2018 (stable + performance)

I found the same answers in old thread (2016) (too much outdated considering that Oreo is out too for RN3pro).
I would like to ask the question for KATE (and i think that will be the same of kenzo RN3pro).
I'm waiting for the last stable miui9 , but i'm thinking to unlock the device (kate .. with all the problems related to the official unlock i didn't get it). In few days i will try miui 9 and i will apply again with a new account for try the official unlock, otherwise i will go on unofficial.
In the past week I did a survey in the miui official forum and the 43.63% (226 votes) of user will leave miui for custom rom in the near future , mainly because the new miui9 will be based on MM. I think that the number will be bigger if Miui9 will be worst or the same of Miui8 regarding performance. I read in that topic about how good are LineageOS , Resurrection Remix , and the NitrogenOS . And how good is Radon kernel.
My question is for all of you who have had the honor of trying different Roms :
Which custom rom + custom kernel combination is the best for Redmi note 3 Pro SE currently?
the question is about:
~ most stable rom (main device and should work perfectly)
~ better performance with better battery backup
~ best game performance (in particular playing Marvel future fight that lags even with ultra low setting)
Thanks in advance to those who will illuminate my path.

Thanks Noter.
Before posting i searched and i found only mainly old thread . In the latest one (from august) the answer is Los + radon (gaming config) .
Is it still the best configuration ?
I read about the good benchmark score with NitrogenOS , but i don't know if it is so stable!
EDIT: i found a post on december about : AOSIP 6.3 saying that is best for gaming. Someone can confirm ?

I have a Kenzo. Mi config is:
RR + Radon Kernel + Magisk 14 + Dolby Atmos.
This config gives me 8 hours of SoT with a 1 hour playing Heroes Evolved, and without playing gives me 9-10 hours of SoT with battery performance profile.
Why i choosed RR???... Cuz that rom has a lot options to customize the system (the best rom for customize all), great support and a big comunity (with facebook and g+ groups) , monthly updates and a full support for sustrabtum theme engine.

you need to be very active in the miui forum, until you get the Diamond member degree, then with a Chinese proxy you have to ask for the unlock permission in the miui china page. you do not need to wait for the SMS to arrive being diamond memeber, it's instantaneous. then go back to the same link and download the application to unlock the phone. You go to developer options (I did it from the stable global rom with no problems) activate unlock OEM and enter the option that says link MI account with this phone. once linked (if throwing error uses a Chinese VPN) the only thing you should do is wait 72hs clock and voala, you can unblock without problems. I took only 3 days to do it, because I was using miui for 6 months until one day I confirmed a moderator who did not have android 7 for RN3 and it warmed me up and unlocked it ... I became an official beta tester ...
You can also do it without being a member, but I recommend you write some post to see that you exist as a user and then ask for permission. in that case, wait a few days to see if the SMS arrives and keep trying to enter the link where you ask for the unlocking. when it gives you the option to download MIUI unlock tool means that you have permission, do not forget to bind the phone to your account in developer options or it will not work.
I'm currently using Citrus CAF with shadow kernel on a 2GB Kate officially unlocked in one day, and I can't be happier, I have tried a lot of ROMs in combination with various kernels and IMHO my actual combo it's the sweetspot, Oreo works great but there's some random bugs and performance issues here and there, nougat is kinda more mature in some aspects, and regarding custom kernels for me Agni and radon are sh*tty most of the time, even with the "just wait for xx kernel magic to work" thing that never happened to we. Meanwhile shadow, elementalX and francokernel are the ones that actually were better than the ones bundled with the ROMs and actually felt as if something improved on my device

thanks for your explanation . I'm now a gold member (just checked) , but i applied 8 months ago (when i was registered since few month on miui forum) for the unlock permission and i received the SMS after few days . I tried to unlock the phone with official way too trying for several months , but probably they locked my permission . I tried waiting weeks and months too but i can't bound the account.
On miui forum a user told me that now the best way is create a new account because mine is blocked regarding the unlock , but before i have to disconnect the phone from my main account, and then apply again with a new account .
A lot of people solved doing like this .
So i want to install the miui 9 and apply again .. so in the while i can try this last MM version or miui .

Nos 8.1 + radon 6.2 battery backup, impressive
I just made account on miui, connected with my device, applied for unlock, never received confirmation, but I could unlock it next day. I still can do it...done it many times.
You just need to install adb drivers in PC and MiFlash and download mi unlock tool and unlock it.
I guess it should be done on developer version, not sure if you can unlock on stable.
For best performance and stability I would recommend last Nitrogen 8.1, magisk 15.x for root and kernel adiutor or ex kernel manager, then you can apply settings as you wish and UV it a bit if you like. You can try other kernels such as shadow, agni...
Screenshots are from 26/12 and 28/12 build
Using Dirty unicorn no 11.7.2 by neonkat over a week now . didn't flashed any mods or anything just magisk and I get average of 8 hours sot . and gaming performance is good I play clash royale and Mobile legend bang bang a lot. Have moderate customization and performs well with stock kernel .

Do you have KATE ? I tried the official unlock , i received confirmation and i followed all the official guides for do it , but me and a lot of kate users (as you can read in official forum ) had the same problem unlocking it . I think it just some problem with their servers regarding this device . I tried with both beta version and stable on miui 8 .. no way!
i will try soon .. with miui 9

Why Xioami not providing regular update to Redmi Note 5 plus India variant?

From last 3-4 weeks Xioami not providing regular weekly update for Redmi Note 5 plus for global beta users.
Even low ended phones gets update weekly..... This is very bad behaviour from Xioami....
I think it's best to stay at "reliable" rather than "bleeding edge" OS because that's all you need. This is my very personal opinion btw

1.- There's no "Redmi note 5 Plus". Do your research and define if you have a Redmi 5 Plus (Note 5 in India, codename vince) , or a Note 5 (Note 5 Pro in India, codename whyred). This forum is for vince. If you have whyred, go to its forum and post there.
2.- Xiaomi always focuses it's development teams mostly to the china ROMs. Chinese developer ROM is constantly updated and then some of these freatures are ported to the global roms, but even in chinese developer roms updates are not always weekly. Why do you need a weekly update? You need a new freature every week? Do you want an unstable system or a build full with untested freatures?
3.- Xiaomi "uses" users that are running developer roms (betas) to test new freatures, bugfixes and to get feedback. They (and almost all OEMs that provide soak tests, previews or beta roms) only update these branches with new builds or OTAs when there's something to test or fix, and internal tests (fast rings or closet betas) have been successful.
4.- The lack of beta OTAs doesn't mean that your device is abandoned or is lacking support. It isn't equivalent to bad behaviour. You're not entitled to weekly updates, you don't even need them.
If you need constant updates or new stuff i suggest you to use an unofficial ROM like Xiaomi.eu
I am in beta global ROM

Actually I am global beta ROM user. I got weekly updates. But from Nov 22 I not am getting any beta update. Also checked on mi community there is no update for Vince device. They are releasing weekly updates to lower version. Eg. Redmi note 4, note 3....
My device code name is Vince..
Sorry for bad English.

Has anyone tried this ROM? It's miui based and from what I've read on Mi 9 thread, the battery life is very good and has less bloat.

I haven't tried it either.
I have tried the following
Official Global Stable : Good but the ads are annoying and its missing alot of features compared to beta and custom rom versions of Miui
Official Global EU beta : Awesome, highly recommended
Chinese and Russian versions : I have not tried.
Mi-Globe : A custom Miui rom based on Global Eu beta, the Miglobe page allows you to build your rom with apps/features built in or removed depending on your selection, which include regional GPS setup, and its released on the same day as the Official EU weekly beta. Does allow 3rd party import of themes, and has excellent battery life. Get it here
Miui Pro : Outstanding as well. But usually updates run behind the weekly EU global and Mi-Globe.
Edit: I recently installed this Mi8 and I must say that it is truly one of the best Miui Rom's that I have tried yet. It includes some very nice older features such as the options of a wide breadth of animations and worldwide theme store, It also has many additional custom battery saving features, such as smart networking ( the list of these features is too lengthy to comment on at the moment. But let me just say that my SOT is very close to 10 hours according to GSAM battery manager. I have used Miui Pro on my other devices for a while, and the rom has always been great. I just found out that the Mi 8 version of Miui Pro requires that you join their site via a subscription and the process is kind of ridiculous. for how long it takes to get accepted. With that being said you can also download a slightly older version of their rom via a link originating from 4PDA rom I am currently using this version and I cannot say enough how much I like it.
Revolution OS : Recently tried, and it's awesome its very similar to Mi-Globe Get the recent version here
Mi-Room: I have not tried yet. But, I have heard great things about this one, I believe it is maybe similar to Miui Pro?
Get it here
I too would be very interested in hearing some feedback from people who have tried other version of Miui.
What was your experience?

Mi-Room: I have not tried. Again, I believe it is similar to Miui Pro ( Edit: I read that this one is really good too) Get it here
I too would be very interested in hearing some feedback from people who have tried other version of Miui. What was your experience?

Yes, I have definitely heard a lot of great things about Miui MS and I will definitely check it out within the next couple of days.
Currently I am on the last release of Miui Pro and I am thoroughly impressed, the version for the Mi8 is much much better than the version that I tried on my old Leeco.
Thank you

I responded to you privately, and I am short on time so I will update this post later to benefit anyone else wanting to know my experience.

MIUI 12 for curtana

Hello.
Has anybody tried fastboot version of MIUI12 for curtana? https://mirom.ezbox.idv.tw/en/phone/curtana/
you can find other version here https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/miui/curtana/
Installed and being trying it for 3 days now. Everything works perfectly. For my day to day usage I can't say I've noticed any big differences from MIUI 11 (I was using xiaomi.eu 11.0.11.0). Usage does feel smoother and the battery does last longer, although I have no documented evidence to show. I removed the bloatware as per the 11.0.10.0 guide and I've found no bugs. All in all I'm happy with this ROM.
Edit: Just wanted to meantion the MIUI camera app. There are no added features. No clone mode and no kaleidoscope mode. The only difference from the MIUI 11 camera app is the new MIUI 12 visual.

# The MIUI 12 rom is a fastboot rom so you must flash it through MI Flasher. Make a backup first and search a guide on how to flash without locking the phone again! See this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-9-pro/how-to/tutorial-how-to-revert-to-official-t4109831
Hey @gde.spencer , can you help me to choose the right firmware?
What is the difference between Recovery and Fastboot? Or do you need both?
Which is the better version Global or EEA?

The fastboot version is installed via MiFlash whilst the phone is in fastboot mode. Use this to flash "as new".
The recovery version is like an OTA update (I think. Never used one).
I don't know which version is better (global vs eea) because I flash as a base for custom roms.
I have the Redmi Note 9s 6/128GB Global Model.
I want to flash the Indian Firmware so I will get the MIUI contacts and dialer (and call recorder).
Can someone please check if the Indian ROM has the HEBREW language, it should look like this:"עברית" under languages.
I will be glad for your help.

Thank you a lot my good friend, I will now flash it
For anyone else wondering, the Turkish fastboot ROM (QJWTRXM) installs fine on a global Note 9S (QJWMIXM). Everything works as far as I can tell, and all the languages are there (though call recording isn't, at least in the default Google Dialer app).

Recovery is the "OTA" ROM you install with MIUI's built-in update mechanism or a custom recovery like TWRP. Fastboot is a bit more low-level, you restart your phone into fastboot mode, connect it to a computer and use a program that manually overwrites the data on the phone's partitions, a bit like using dd on Linux or disk cloning/backup software. There's also EDL mode, which is the same as fastboot but it's built into the hardware itself, so it works even if you manage to brick fastboot somehow. On recent Xiaomi phones, it requires an authorized Mi account (or a patched ROM, or someone willing to sell you authorizations over the internet).
Global and EEA are pretty much the same thing, but EEA ROMs are intended for the European Economic Area (the EU) so they have to comply with additional regulations like having to let you choose your browser and search engine or something. As a side note, I live in the EU and pretty much every store over here is selling the Global variant of the 9S instead of the EEA one. Global ROMs are "better" in the sense that they tend to be more up to date (as of me writing this, global is on MIUI V11.0.11 and EEA is still stuck on V11.0.4).
