Just did a software update on my s7 edge phone. Not rooted. Been using greenify hibernate and lock screen. Before the update, the fingerprint sensor worked. But now I no longer am able to use fingerprint sensor to unlock instead must put in my password. If i use the phones power key to lock the screen, then I can unlock using my fingerprint sensor. I'm using a hard case for my phone and it's not easy to press the power key button. Anyone has a solution for this issue?

Hi,
I have AutoLock installed on my phone (Galaxy S2), but is not working very good. I need an application that lock and unlock (same as power button) the phone with help of proximity. Somebody know a good app for this?
Thanks in advice!
what do you mean lock (!) and unlock phone with proximity?
put your face in fron of your phone and un/lock??
Something like that, but just for pocket, when i have an object in front of the proximity sensor, the screen must turn off, when is nothing in front, on... and so on
+1 I need this app!
Smart Screen On App will make your day!!!
u must try this app but it drains about 15 to 20 % of ur battery and this app is for manual lock /unlock using proximity sensor

Is there a possibility to use fingerprint sensor to wake and lock device as it is on double tap to wake without (or with) security check? I think it would be great feature to add on roms. Cheers
I used fingerprint sensor to unlock/wake my phone. Used xmiui and set double tapped the back key to put my phone to sleep/lock.

Hi guys,
I have received an update lately (MIUI Gloval 8.1 Stable - 8.1.1.0) and my struggle began. My problem is that now every time if I touch the fingerprint sensor the phone unlocks. It's REALLY annoying guys. Sometimes I lock my phone and put it down and the screen unlocks because accidently I touched it. Fingerprint is disabled, furthermore I have no lockscreen whatsoever have enabled. The fingerprint sensor at the back acts exactly like the unlock button on the side. How the hell can I disable this annoying function?
Thanks !!!
Settings - Lock Screen & Password - Manage Fingerprints - Enter Password if you have one - Apply Fingerprint to Lock Screen - choose disable?
Fingerprint wakes up the device if u haven't added any fingerprints.
That's a thing in marshmallow MIUI (even on the beta builds), it's not a bug, tapping on fp without any registered FPs wakes up the screen.
Furthermore, u said that there's 'NO LOCKSCREEN' you kept(so i assume there's neither swipe to unlock screen) so fp is waking your device everytime, and consequently, screen gets unlocked.
I see. Any way to completely disable this function? I dont want that sensor to work at all.
Me too, I have the same problem, the fp sensor wakes up the screen when I'm touching it accidentally most of the time. How can we disable this annoying "feature"?
I have a Mi A3 and think it's great, but there is one issue I'm facing.. the fingerprint sensor is always active and when the phone is in my pocket and touches my leg, it wakes the screen after X failed attempts.
Multiple times I've pulled out my phone to find my leg has been typing numbers into the emergency dialler..
Is there any way (prefer no root - but so be it if needed..) to use the proximity sensor to kill the FP sensor? That way when it's covered in my pocket the FP sensor would be disabled and stop waking the phone all the time.
And before anyone says just put in your pocket with the screen out.. well that's just asking to get it smashed ?
Try disabling "show fingeprint icon when screen is off" feature.
Tried that one already. Unfortunately the sensor is still alive so if something touches it the phone attempts to unlock.
After a couple of attempts it seems to turn on and show buttons for emergency dialler / pin unlock.
Not sure if this would be usable on A3, but you could try this approach:
https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/153948/completely-disable-the-fingerprint-sensor
Edit: just tried it on my A1. I can disable the FP sensor with:
Code:
echo soc:fpc1020 > /sys/bus/platform/drivers/fpc1020/unbind
BUT, can't get it back yet (only with reboot): this should be the correct command, but it doesn't do anything
Code:
echo soc:fpc1020 > /sys/bus/platform/drivers/fpc1020/bind
Custom ROMs have something like pocket mode that detects and prevents it don't they? I wish something like that would be available for stock as well. Wouldn't mind root.
I have the same problems with scanner acting in a pocket. Looks like I have to disable scanner for now. This can be done by removing recorded fingerprints from settings.
As a workaround for emergency dialing, you can use WaveUp app and set it to lock with proximity sensor. It probably won't prevent fingerprint readings, but at least the display will turn off in your pocket. Works best with root, I'm using it on Mi A1. "Turn display on when removing from pocket" feature is highly addictive. I use HW power button mainly for taking screenshots now..
Edit: Tasker with states "proximity sensor and orientation - phone upside down" and task "display - turn off" can do the same if you want to keep it simple.
Edit 2: Nicer Tasker profile, turns screen off only when the screen is locked (prevents accidental locks while using the phone):
Profile 1 - state "proximity sensor" + state variable value "%SCREEN_LOCKED ~ true", task "display - turn off"
Profile 2 - event "display unlocked", task "variable set, %SCREEN_LOCKED to false"
Profile 3 - event "display off", task "variable set, %SCREEN_LOCKED to true"
Turn display on&off with power button and you are good to go.
Thanks will give the commands a go when I get chance and see if it works on the A3.
put you phone opposite side .... screen upwards in pocket.
hi this feature works on my device when i turn off the proximity sensor the fingerprint icon does not show up on the screen
I have this problem too with Android 11.
I wanted to try the method with fpc1020 driver. The driver is here, but what is weird, that in /sys/bus/platform/devices is not such device attached :/
The easily way to do this is root the phone. After this you can disable all useless features

I have rooted phone but you probably doesn't understand the problem.
I don't want to completely disable fingerprint, I just want the FP to be disabled by proximity sensor, because it's bul*** to have enabled FP in pocket...

I'm used to the Huawei fingerprint sensor that scans and turns the device on at the same time.
On Samsung it seems if have to double tap oder press the on button before I can unlock it with my fingerprint. Is there a way to set it up to unlock and wakeup with the fingerprint at the same time?

You can't unlock and power on device using only fingerprint scanner because tab s6 has optical scanner. To use it, the screen must be on and backlit.
The Huawai P30 Pro manages that just fine with the same hardware.
You can double tab on screen and then use the finger sensor

Can you read? That's what I said in my initial post, that's to unnecessary tabs to many.
I agree, double tap, then fingerprint is to many when I'm not using a case that has auto-wakeup capability.
Unfortunately, I can only suggest another alternative since the fingerprint sensor isn't active with the screen off. When I don't have an auto-wakeup case on the Tab S6, I pick up the tablet and my finger hits the S-Pen's button on the back which makes the S6 wakeup. So, a quick press of the S-Pen button, or removal of the S-Pen itself is easier than using the power button for me when I don't have an auto-wakeup case on it.

Yea thats more convenient than the double tab when holding it in my hand, actually I wondered yesterday why the device sometimes turns on on its own, but I must have just moved the pen slightly while moving it.
The December 2019 update will allow you to do just what the Huawei can do, now you no longer have to double tap the screen or press the power button just place finger on the in screen fingerprint sensor and it will wake up and unlock.
