i got my g3 in mail today. looks a great phone in hand. just make sure this is the proper thing i m going to do to flash some rom. current software build is 11c. it needs to downgrade to 10b with kdz method. stump root then. install twrp recovery with flashify. then i could pick any rom i like to flash? is there anything wrong or i missed? anything i need to take care during flashing rom?
thank you for the advice.
Sounds about right.
Unless you want to run plain stock for some reason, then don't use the kdz to downgrade. I downgraded using the stock 10b, rooted and then took each OTA making sure SU had keep root checked. I have a rooted stock 11C nandroid just in case I want it. Just a thought.

downgrading with the kdz method you'd still be able to update by flashing the stock rooted 11c & 12b and the appropriate modem.

Sure but you wouldn't be able to take an OTA which some people like to do. Plus, can you get the VoLTE update on the VZW model? Not sure.
Anyway, to not have to worry about flashing separate modems, it's not really a huge deal to downgrade with the stock files.
Either way works which is why Android rocks. Options!
okay, i want to go back to stock (turning in my G3 Friday for repairs.) im currently on Eclipse rom. now, i have the lg flash tool downloaded, and the 10b and 12b KDZ files downloaded, and am currently backing up my internal storage to my PC.
that being said, i do have TWRP and i am rooted. do i still just follow this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/general/guide-flash-to-stock-10b-kdz-method-t2928140 ?
im actually going to try the .tot method. i read that otas wont work with the 10b kdz..i got the 12b kdz.. gonna run it instead of .tot to 10b
will that put the stock recovery and stuff back on it? im assuming so.
mods, you can delete this if you wish..

Hi! Yes, that's exactly what you still need to do. All you need is the 12B KDZ. 10B is only needed when you're going to root/re-root.
If you use the 12B KDZ you don't have to bother with OTAs. Personally, and not to dissuade you entirely - it's up to you, but the TOT method is VERY finicky. Much more so than flashing KDZs in my experience, but that's just my two cents. I've never had a problem flashing KDZs.
Yes, any KDZ will put the phone completely back to stock including wiping internal storage as long as you choose "CSE" when it gives you the choice between that and "Normal". CSE *is* what you want. "Normal" is like a dirty flash, FYI and can come in handy in different situations.
Good luck!
My wife insisted on remaining stock on her VS985... Until the lolliplop update. She wants her kitkat back and I cannot find a way to do it yet. I have successfully rooted it but cannot get a custom recovery install to stick. I have tried the methods that I know for the kitkat version, to install philz and twrp and get an error message upon reboot. Has an exploit been figured out yet to downgrade from stock lollipop?
I use the kdz method to return to 10b stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/general/guide-flash-to-stock-10b-kdz-method-t2928140
After you are rooted http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/orig-development/root-stump-root-lg-g3-sprint-verizon-t2850906 and on 10b i use flashify to flash the twrp img. From there just find a nice stock KK rom for her.
This is just how i do things and find it fairly easy.
Or directly flash the 12B KDZ, use the new root script if you want her phone rooted and use Flashily from the Play Store to flash TWRP.

I wasn't aware of the new root script. Got anymore info or a link to this. Can't say I've seen anything about it.

Thank you both!
The One Click Root works like a boss.
It worked effortlessly on my new phone.
I sticking with 12B rooted too, as it seems to be a good solid O/S.
I rooted without issue, I was stuck at installing twrp. I did get it to work, using autorec! Slapped twrp in, and romed out to jasmine 4. I hope that this helps others out down the road.
So, a friend of mine has a VS985 and wants to upgrade his OS. We live in Romania, by the way, so no Verizon for us... so no OTA's for him...
He currently has KitKat, and wants me to flash his phone to LP (or Marshmallow... dunno, some custom ROM, we'll see). I basically have to unlock the bootloader (right...?), put a custom recovery in place and be done with it (cause from that point on, I know all I have to do is get a custom ROM going and voila).
Problem is... I've had a LG D802 (International G2) for a while, and back then, I heard that with G3 the procedure is much harder (the procedure required to get custom stuff going). Worth mentioning is that he doesn't care about warranty (as he doesn't have one), so in case there are multiple ways to do this, the easiest one (even if it implies relocking the bootloader for warranty purposes is impossible) will do!
I really apologize for having to do this, but I am short on time, so I can't afford to research the forum and see what I need for this task. My plea is : perhaps someone who gets to read this can help, and provide me with the tutorials needed to do this?
Yeah, I know... "search the forum you noob'...

The software version of his phone is Android 4.4.2, VS98510B.
If he doesn't care about root/custom roms/etc, just use the LG Flash Tool to install the latest official 35B firmware KDZ (LP 5.1.1).
If he wants root/custom roms, there is no bootloader unlock for the Verizon G3, but Bump accomplishes the same thing essentially.
Root (10B should be rootable on the phone itself via towelroot), flash bumped TWRP recovery, and clean flash whatever bumped custom ROM he wants plus the necessary bootstack.

He said he doesn't care about custom & all that, but just decided stock isn't good enough for him anymore ( :good: ), so I'll have to throw a custom ROM on his phone.
Bump. Ah, yes, that's what that was! All I have to do is root it (which is pretty easy, kind of like AutoRec back in the G2 days, if you know that?) and flash a bumped recovery on it?
10B can be rooted on the device itself via stumproot (http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/orig-development/root-stump-root-lg-g3-sprint-verizon-t2850906), or I believe towelroot also works. Then, you can flash the bumped TWRP (http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/orig-development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-2-8-2-0-t2966129) either via Flashify on the device itself, or with a computer via ADB. Then just download whatever custom ROM you want and the necessary bootstack onto the microSD card, boot into recovery, and clean flash the bootstack and the custom ROM, reboot and you're golden.
(Check the ROM's topic to know which bootstack to flash. Some ROMs like XDABBEB's VS985 and CM13 use 35B, while I believe CM12.1 uses 24B.)

What's that boostack all about? I'm confused, why does it matter, as I'll flash a whole different ROM...

The only way to root MM on the G3 is with Kingroot. It requires you are connected to the internet and after you root, if you reboot, you have to re-root again. It cannot keep root over re-boots. Many do not trust the validity of Kingroot since it's from China and requires you to be connected to the internet and no one has any idea as to what type of info, if any, it's sending or to where.
Depending on the version of G3 you have, you can downgrade to 10b and root via Stump root which is permanent and is the preferred way to root. But, once rooted, things like Android Pay and NFL Mobile will no longer work.
If you wish to downgrade to 10b, you need to first open up the back of your phone, remove the battery and see what version of the VS985 you have. If it's model number ends in a K (such as VS985K, or VS985WK), you CANNOT downgrade and your only option to root is Kingroot.
If, however, your model number does NOT end in a K, then you can downgrade to 10b and root. Follow these directions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/general/lg-g3-downgrade-to-10b-t3354834
As for Kingroot, I don't use it and never have and never will, so I can't give you much more info on it other than to search for it on Google.

The only way is to use TOT to flash back to 10b so you can then use Stump Root. No other root works for MM other than Kingroot.
Don't know what .odd files are.
Sorry. That's supposed to be .kdz...I'm up and running 10b now.thanks. what are some good rims out there with decent battery life?

@xdabbeb 's VS985 v3.1.1 based on 48A Marshmallow in the Development section.
FYI, if you ever encounter a problem, TOTs fix more problems than KDZs because TOTs contain and flash more partitions. I've actually personally experienced it. Now I use TOT whenever I downgrade to start fresh. Note that from recent rooted ROMs I often have to flash any KDZ first, and then I can flash the TOT.

Just follow the directions to install in the first post of the @xdabbeb VS985 v3.1.1 ROM thread.
From that first post that's confusing me ...
Peform a full nandroid backup.
Flash the 35B bootstack zip found below.
I have provided 12b and 24b bootstack zips for use with other firmware.(this part confuses me)
So I just flash th 35b ?
Thank,you for all your,help.
