Hello,
my Honor 7 shows up since some days with the GPS searching icon in the statusbar. After dragging down the information panel it shows that the Google play store is searching for GPS signal... That process will never end...
I was afraid of a high battery consumption ... but it seems that there is no battery consumption at all...
Nevertheless I want to get rif of that issue..
Does this problem has got anybody else ?
Yes but for me it's weather app

Select which apps use GPS, Mobile or Wifi location services, at the Location settings. For example, Mobile or Wifi is fine for weather.

My Galaxy S2 has been working great until today. Suddenly Google Maps will not open. I've cleared the cache, data, removed it from the phone rebooted and then reinstalled the application. It starts up, freezes for a moment and then crashes.
The other problem is my phone no longer get's a GPS signal. Before and after rebooting it. I downloaded a GPS tester and it's showing 1 satellite in range, which makes no sense.
My phone is rooted, stock.
Anyone have any ideas? I googled the google maps crashing issue and there's hundreds of threads but no real solutions.
I just uninstalled the Chainfire3D Pro drivers and google maps now opens. Why would those two conflict?
Edit: Still not picking up any satellites.

No. I would like to try to solve the issue before I give up and resort to that.
My old phone used to be able to download the satellite positions to help improve the speed at which it got signal. Does Android have anything like this?

Seems to be working, I will update if I get anywhere. It's at least showing more than one satellite now.
Didn't work.
The only solution was to take out the battery and re-insert it.

I froze it with Titanium Backup and nothing has stopped working that I'm aware of.. get a instant GPS lock.
This takes a lot of battery and my battery life has significantly improved after I froze this.

Ya I'm not 100% certain but glonass and a-gps may be separate to "normal" GPS so you would still lock on to the "normal" satellites.
Theoretically anyway.
The poster said it was to control some bcm(some numbers) chip and it was a-gps and glonass. He sounded like he knew what he was talking about.

Weather widget gets location from....... GPS/glonass/a-gps.
Broadcom doesn't make weather Widgets, it makes wireless chips, Bluetooth, wifi, GPS etc.

U cant see this popup anymore, but your problem isnt over.
When you need A-GPS or Glonass again you shall face this error again.
It seems some system file are corrupted; only a full wipe or other rom can solve this, I think.
After six months without this problem, yesterday, I run into same problem, you describe - "BroadcomMEMsService has stopped", its really strange... Yesterday I installed only these updates - QuickPic, franco.Kernel.Updater, Change Hostname, Sleep as Android, IM+ Pro, nothing more... But even after uninstalling these updated, error doesn stoped... So I dont really know, why this is happenning. In detailed error message I can see: java null exception error 29
So I tried to froze this service, and error is gone, and GPS is still working. I need to do more tests, If I can find if anythig was affected by frozing this service... but up to now, everything is working...
Hi I'm havin a problem with the location services when using mobile networks. Sometimes, google maps can't give me my location and it will show, location is temporarily unavailable. Any ideas why? Gps works fine but it only works when there's a clear view of the sky. My iPhone can show my location all the time whenever I request it like Facebook check in etc.

Ok now maps is working fine with mobile networks but the only problem left is applications like Facebook/weather using mobile networks to attain the location. Any ideas?
Bump... Anyone facing this issue too?
the location/gps in this phone is pathetic.. i try to "locate" in weather app and it's using data/cellular to show location and it's wrong, it looks like it's using the cell tower as my position.. i don't understand why this phone needs data to locate a position.. isn't that what GPS is for?
even my old windows touch pro 2 found location without using internet data and it was very accurate.
Okay guys, silly old me. Dont disable background data for google services if you want it to work!

hi guys i have been testing my galaxy s3's GPS. i am using osmand app as my GPS app. sadly the app could not find any satellites and pin point my current location. even if i leave my S3's GPS active for a more than 5 minutes it could not get any satellites even if i am standing on a open area.
what should i do? how can i reset my GPS?
thanks in advance
Turn mobile data/wifi on and then try to use GPS. If GPS receiver doesn't have fresh AGPS data, cold start will take from 10 minutes to infinity.

Agree with you. Turn mobile data on. GPS or Glonass receiver use mobile network to fix the signal. When your position is done, you can turn off mobile data.
oh do you really need the mobile data active? was it possible to get your exact location without the use of wifi or mobile data? just your GPS? because osmand can download the maps offline then just use the GPs data to pin point your location. have you guys tried using the osmand app?
thanks
GPS receiver needs to download some (4-5 kilobytes) of data from server. This is called A-GPS, Assisted GPS. Without it, GPS still will lock onto satellites, but it will be 20-30 minutes instead of 2-3 seconds.

U only need data/wifi for first location fix and to dl. extra GPS data.when your location is found,u can turn of data/wifi and never use it again if u got downloaded maps.
Its just to get faster location fix on first GPS fix
I just tested my s3's GPS today in open air and got a lock within two seconds. phone locked 15 satellites. My phone is running completely stock rom and kernel.
So as others suggested, you should turn wifi or mobile data on so that A-GPS could work.
If you are worried about your app downloading more data and cost you money eventually then you may try app named "GPS Test". Its a very simple app and gives you some key info like satellites in view and locked to plus accuracy etc. It doesn't download any maps etc. Once you get locked, you can close the app and open your desired maps app.

Hi there,
I also have an issue with my GPS. Navigation is stuck at Searching for GPS.
Also when I run GPS test, it does not see any Satellites. I have my mobile data and WIFI on, and also tried to update the agps data with fastergps.
I have found different threads suggesting to uninstall maps but that did not help either.
Any ideas? (the issue existed on 4.0.4 stock, and also on latest aokp 4.1.1 build 3)
Thanks.
Also the GPS icon flashes briefly (like twice) and then disappears. Watching the notifications the same thing happens - Searching for GPS- appears briefly and then dissappears.
Is this the normal behaviour?

That usually means the phone has stopped searching for satellites for any reason, these usually are app-related.
Please download GPS TEST from Play store and report if it can find and lock on any satellites. If not or if it keeps loosing the connections, then something is wrong.
Make sure you don't let the screen turn off during the fix since that will disable the GPS.

I have tried GPS Test and it sees 0 satellites. I have also tried a couple of other apps with no success.
Even with GPS test running, display on, I still observe the same flashing of the icon and notification popping up, then disappearing after 2 seconds and reappearing again...
Have same problem. I tried GPS test. It take about 5-10s to lock the GPS. However, it will dropped after sometimes.
If some of you guys are not running stock ROM, then there might be kernel related.
I tried Temasek's newest kernel yesterday on my AOSP MIUI ROM, but couldn’t get a gsp fix.
Went back to siyah kernel and got fix within seconds.
Also try setting your regional pool with fasterfix

Aluminum Case
I thought my GPS was busted as it showed which satelites were available (agps had downloaded) but it woudn't lock.
I then took my aluminum case off the phone and discovered that this was interfering with the GPS lock.
So take your case off before assuming that the GPS is buggered. *sigh*
"My gps wasn't working on my phone. I took it to the Verizon store after I had flashed back to stock, they messed with it for a little while and then ordered me a refurbished one. I received it the next day and when I powered it on guess what the gps didn't work. So I called tech support and to my surprise the person that answered the phone actually knew what she was talking about.
She told me the gps issue is a Samsung issue, (even though is only effects Verizon and sprint phones) they are working on an update to fix it. But in the mean time she told me how to do a work around to get it working. Here is what she had me do."
Go to Settings
Application manager
click all at top
go to Google services framework
clear data
go to settings
Application manager
click all at top
go to maps
clear data
uninstall updates
Go to location services
turn off VZW Location service(leave it off to)
Power cycle phone
update maps from android market
now the gps should be working.
Hello Mi Fans, I got my Xiaomi Mi10 3 weeks ago everything working very good I use gps a lot and never had any problem with my previous Mi Mix3 , with the mi 10 am getting my location but it doesn’t move when I go somewhere or use direction by google maps or use waze , it doesn’t show speed it’s just stock there , I unlocked the phone and flashed miui eu stable rom, still the same problem even though I wiped the data , anyone has the same problem please or is it an hardware issue.
I was experiencing the same problem, I use waze a lot. I happened to go into Apps. Located the GPS you use and set it to Always. For some reason mine was set to only when app is being used. Changed that and it's working fine. Let me know if that works for you.
You are right just changed it thanks a lot

I had the same issue, power settings didn't fix it for me but what did was changing some settings using QuickShortcutMaker from the play store.
Pretty sure I just changed the A-GPS server to Google. It was using a xiaomi one by default.
How did you do that? I tried to use that app, but couldnt change anything.
