In the G4 forum, we realized that Verizon has put some sort of firmware on the device that disables 4G LTE in GSM mode using a T-Mobile (or AT&T for that matter) SIM card, even though the phone does support the bands. When the phone is switched to CDMA mode, then 4G LTE works fine, but unfortunately voice doesn't work at the same time. See this thread here for more details: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-g4/help/lg-g4-vs986-t-mobile-lte-problem-t3195888
Can anybody try out the same with the V10 and report back? Would be intersting to know if Verizon now intentionally started crippling these devices (since it used to work fine on the G3), or this is some sort of bug that only applies to the G4 right now. Thanks!!
I use a VZW branded V10 with my tmo sim and can only get H or H+. Rarely does it get 4gLTE. And when it does sms does not work.
Thanks... but you do get 4G LTE sometimes when in GSM mode?!?
Can you change the system mode in the mobile settings to CDMA and check if it gets 4G LTE with the T-Mobile SIM card? And then in the same place switch it back to GSM and see if it falls back to H+ only? That's the behavior we saw on the G4, like Verizon is intentionally blocking LTE om GSM, even though the phone supports the band.

I am not sure if it is the same with Tmobile, but when trying to use a Tmobile variant on AT&T, LTE does not work either. It seems that you have to get the device provisioned by the carrier for LTE using it's IMEI, not just doing a SIM swap.

Yeah if i switch to CDMA, i get 4G LTE very often though i cannot send message or call
Can anyone tell me if u get the annoying unauthorized sim card message... if so can we stop it from appearing. Had that issue with my verizon htc m8.
I tried at a T-Mobile store earlier to see if one of their Sim cards would work in my VZW V10 and I had the same issues.
The pop up saying "not a Verizon Sim" or whatever came up after a few minutes of dismissing it as well.
When it first loaded up, I changed the APN to match the in-store display V10 with its exact settings. I changed the network mode from global to LTE/GSM and after a minute it showed it was connected with 4G LTE, but it went away after a few seconds. I couldn't get it to come back, and it only had like 2-3 bars, and H for data. I know it wasn't from lack of signal because the display V10 had full bars with LTE.
I also tried sending a text using the T-Mobile SIM to one of my other numbers, but it didn't go through at all. Didn't try placing a call, but regardless it didn't seem like it would be worth it to switch.
No 4g LTE
Still waiting for a fix,can get no 4g LTE on t mobile,I'm on marsmallow so I lost root access
I'm Canadian, I just bought an unlocked Verizon V10 on ebay and I'm planning to use it on a Canadian carrier. Does this mean I should expect to have no LTE data at all on this phone in Canada? Poops I never would have bought it if that was the case.
Let me know, I may try a return without opening the package.
how different is the speed between HSPA+ and LTE? is it noticeable
does it bother you that its not LTE?
I bought a phone from a seller on swappa. when he listed it. the phone had a clean ESN.
took it to the verizon store to setup verizon prepaid and it was flagged a non pay account
cannot activate.
I am using my ATT sim card right now
I can return it but on the secondary market is many LGV10 phones are going to be flagged for non payment when the accounts go into collections, it then buyers could get screwed.
I might just stick with the phone. But i can never use it on verizon. I have to wait for a Root on marshmallow, and fix after that if I want LTE speeds on ATT or TMO
I got LTE working. In happy with it. I think the US phones work in Canada even with a bad imei.
Another area on a long long laundry list where canada is better than the usa. hockey and standardized healthcare being 1 and 2... hahaha
I was having the same issue on my Verizon v10 vs990 on my T-Mobile network. I went into the APN settings and set it to LTE/CDMA and it works perfectly. Calls, SMS and data.
Based on what I read so far, only unlocked version of AT&T will work only with GSM provider. Would like confirmation of this. Thanks!

Unless something has changed, Sprint is CDMA, not GSM.

An unlocked AT&T GS8 will work on other GSM networks but not on Sprint b/c Sprint won't add the AT&T GS8 IMEI to their system.

The hardware on all the s8's are the same so technically it will work but the imei isn't white listed so you won't be able to activate it on sprint but the sprint version can be activated on att or any other gsm provider.

Hey there. I have an S7 Edge unlock from t-mobile running the unlock firmware from G935U. Sprint SIM cards are lock, I have a friend who works for sprint. I have 3 Sprint S8 and S8+, 2 unlock and running on T-Mobile network. I took 1 of the SIM card and put in my Unlock S7 Edge, the phone just keep trying to connect to network and repeating the same process. Didn't work at all, but the Sprint S8's works excellent on T-Mobile network after flashing the UNLOCK firmware.
---------- Post added at 03:01 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:53 AM ----------
I got 111.71 mbps download, 20 mbps upload speed from my Unlock Sprint S8+ running G955U1 unlock firmware on T-Mobile network. Couldn't ask for anything more than that.
I will provide my non Sprint S8 variant experience.....for any US S8, they all have the same hardware. I have noticed that ATT and TMO models have CDMA hardware, but are turned off in the carriers version of the firmware . Flashing the stock unlocked S8 firmware or the Sprint/VZW FW will enable the phones for use with CDMA and all LTE bands. I had an ATT version sim unlocked and attempted this on Verizon FW with a VZW sim and it worked perfect....but there is a major roadblock with Sprint. Sprint is the only carrier that I have tried that requires an update of the IMEI to the account (ie you cant just pop a sim in and the device works). VZW for example shows Unknown device on the account instead of an S8, but all the services still work. Sprint shows 3G for about 5 minutes, then you get a message that the sim is locked and to reboot or call support (not the same as the phones sim slot being locked, but more that the system cant register the sim/device combo). Sprint stores have the capability of adding IMEI's to the Sprint database, as long as the IMEI does not come back as ineligible. Well, I took the S8 to several stores and none of them could add it to the system. Several employees advised me that the IMEI's from other carrier's are blacklisted so that it can not be added and the only ones that the system would allow to add are IMEI's that were sold as unlocked or Sprint branded. If the IMEI can be white listed, then I am certain it would work.

I had a similar experience with an Unlocked Galaxy S7 and Sprint. I actually had to get Samsung Tech support on a conference call with a Sprint Manager, because Sprint told my customer the the phone is incompatible with the Sprint network. After embarrassing the Sprint rep, he white listed the IMEI number on Sprint's network and the phone worked.
Also, MetroPCS has the same policy. You cannot just pop in a Metro Sim card. You have to call them and register the IMEI number. After about an hour tops, the phone will complete provisioning and be able to work on Metro's T-Mobile network.
T-Mobile is instant. You cab pop a T-Mobile Sim card into any sim unlocked variant and it will work. However you will need to go into settings and follow the T-Mobile instructions on how to set up the radio frequencies. The better way is to just flash the carrier's ROM version onto the phone. This way you will get the features and updates from the carrier. Carriers seem to get the Android updates faster than Samsung. A trade off for bloatware.

You may have been referring to me regarding the unlocked Galaxy S7 & Sprint. Many thanks for that one. I'm going through the same crap now with Universal unlocked IPhone 7. Sprint is a PITA!
I can confirm the SM-G955U from AT&T does work. I confirmed this via Sprint site. Just Google Sprint byod eligibility and you'll find the link.
My biggest roadblock was AT&T had a network lock on my phone so the sim Sprint sent couldn't be used. I then used the services provided by gsmzambia to network unlock the device. It's currently working on Sprint network.
Are those places (sites) that you pay to unlock your phone legit? Is it possible to unlock the Verizon version of the G6 so I can use it on T-Mobile or does the Verizon G6 not have the proper bands support?

Verizon doesn't lock their LTE phones. You should be able to drop a SIM card in it and have it work.
I don't know about all the LTE bands though.
I'm on Verizon. Seems everyone I had would work on most carriers out of the box. I had S7 Edge (Verizon) worked on a few different prepaid Sims. I also added a new phone for me and put a dif sim in my old LG Stylus and sent to my son in Boise. And put old sim in my LG G6 and it worked (cause I needed old number in new phone and new SIM went in older phone.
Hopefully that made since haha.
Just remember that the phone/SIM must be in good standing or you will have problems sometimes when activating on major companies. Unless its prepaid SIM you can pop a new one in that's already activated.

I'll have a chance to buy new Verizon LG G6 for cheap, but I'm on AT&T network. Just want to confirm before pull the trigger, do I need a Verizon SIM to activate the phone first then swap with AT&T SIM, or just put in the AT&T SIM would be fine? Thanks in advance!
Put the att sim in, during setup connect to WiFi. After setup input apn settings. Restart the phone. The phone may occasionally inform you that the inserted sim is not a VZW sim. I think that will go away after you disable all the VZW apps.
I have tried different sims but does not recognize the sim. Only recognizes verizon sim. I'm not a verizon customer and where I am at we don't have verzion.
any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Update: Working now. Sim card readers were bent.

I'm sorry but where I live don't have Tmobile or Atnt. I was getting 4g LTE with my carrier.
Was having an issue with the phone losing signal when in poor reception area. Do I need ATT to activate phone with imei of xz1 or in order to get LTE do I need to have a previous att branded phones imei on the sim card? Is there any ATT bands this phone doesn't support? Just don't know why phone says no service when it is in a bad reception area. My iPhone 8 works perfect in the same areas.
Use an IMEI of a LTE AT&T phone if possible. If you give AT&T the IMEI of this phone it won't be in their database and it will be provisioned as a 3G device at best.
Do you have any issues with it losing a connection when there is poor cell phone reception?
****, this phone isn't functioning with AT&T LTE? That's a problem... Can anyone else confirm?
I have AT&T. When I got the phone I called them, gave them the IMEI and they did whatever they need to do and my phone works with LTE.
I had previously contacted their technical support before getting this phone to verify that band 12 would work as well.

Log into your AT&T account online and see what they have for a device for your number. It works fine on AT&T LTE but I have had issues for years when giving them the IMEI of my Sony phones. Maybe they have joined us in the 21st century.
So, from what I have been reading online and asking my IRL friends, it seems like AT&T doesn't exactly let devices that aren't sold by the carrier automatically have provisioning for LTE and LTE+. You have to call them.
Only negative in general is that VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling cannot be enabled as a company policy at this time on phones not directly sold by the carrier. Even the Google Pixel 2 can't get VoLTE on AT&T.
...Anyway, solution so far is to call AT&T via 611 or from another line at (800) 331-0500 and ask to "Activate my SIM"... And then ask for an agent. You'll need to give them the IMEI of your phone.
Only then, after you reboot your device, will your phone be provisioned for LTE.
Is this all correct??
I haven't had success giving them my Sony IMEI. I have a carrier version LG V30 and when I bought it, AT&T gave me a new sim. I pulled it and put it in my XZ1 and I have LTE.
As augie7107 mentioned, the trick seems to be getting an IMEI of an AT&T phone attached to your account and sim and you can get LTE on other non-branded phones. The sim I've been using has been the same one I've had since a launch day AT&T iPhone 6. I've used the sim in a number of unlocked Android and Windows phones without major issues: Nokia 925, Moto X Pure, Amazon Fire phone, Nokia 930 (no LTE), Nexus 6p, Axon 7, Xperia XZ, XZs, XZ1, and now an Essential PH-1.

What did the AT&T agents say when they wouldn't activate LTE?
When I received my XZ1c last week, data would not work at all - LTE or 3G.
After playing around with settings for an evening, I chatted with the AT&T service rep first thing the next day and he was happy to enable LTE using the Sony IMEI. I don't know if it depends on customer service agent, or if there is a policy difference, or what.
So I bought my US998 on swappa and it is advertised as unlocked. There's no any indication that it's from US cellular as there's no apps or logos branded such. Does it mean mine is the actual unlocked version??? When on AT&T, It only gets HSPA+(4g on the status bar). My network mode is set to global. When I put in my friend's sim that gets LTE on an iPhone, the phone only gets HSPA+ too. When I put my sim card into my friend's iPhone, it shows 4g but I can't use data even though it's on. What's going on here?
EDIT: I now own five of these US998 and of course there's LTE on AT&T.

Unlocked on Swappa means it can be used on any network, which the U.S.Cellular version can also do.
Check your carrier settings. Make sure you don't have 3G only or something chosen.
When I get home I'll look at mine. Also be sure to tell AT&T you have a new phone so they can provision your account correctly.
I still haven't stuck my AT&T SIM card in my US998. Waiting until I get it set up properly.
Did you set the APN correctly? I did what this page told me https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/wireless/KM1218306 and got full LTE speed.
Finally set my phone up enough to put in my AT&T SIM card. I'm getting LTE. I'll attach screenshots and LTE Discovery proof, when I get home.
The LTE on 4G LTE logo is very small. Are you overlooking that?

I was getting LTE on my LG V30 before I went to the AT&T store. I just stuck in my Moto XT1225 SIM card (which is also not an AT&T phone).
By the way, I have AT&T Prepaid -- not postpaid (contract) AT&T.
I only went to the AT&T store to make sure they knew what phone I did have, because the 3-year old Moto XT1225 doesn't have a Snapdragon 835 gigabit modem in it. They didn't change SIM cards, they just made changes in their system to note I now have an LG V30 and the serial number.
On my Moto XT1225 I would get speeds up to high 60s MBPS, but while last night coming home I hit in the 70s on my LG V30. But I was getting LTE speeds (not that fast, like in the 20s and 30s) on my LG V30 with the same SIM card, even while going to the store even before they made changes to their system.

It shouldn't be any faster, it should be the same as the AT&T model. Same hardware and all that. Or do you mean faster response due to less bloatware? I don't know, I've never touched the AT&T branded model and have no desire to, since I know it won't get bootloader unlock and root.
I got this speed on the way home from AT&T store last night. I'll probably burn all my data this month doing speed tests. On my 2014 Moto XT1225, using the same SIM card, I got in the 50s and 60s.

Did you read the post above yours? You should be set to LTE/GSM/UMTS. NOT "global". Or you don't have the correct APN. Or you are misinterpreting the "4G" icon.
If AT&T customer reps said this phone doesn't have LTE they lied to you. Of course it has LTE on AT&T, as it's the official carrier unlocked model which works on ALL North American carriers.
http://www.lg.com/us/cell-phones/lg-US998-Silver-lg-v30
US998
CDMA: 800 MHz CDMA
2G GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G UMTS (HSPA):850/900/1900/2100 MHz
4G LTE Bands: 1/2/3/4/5/7/12(17)/13/20/25/66
I own five of these, either original or LS998 V30+ converted to US998. On US998 on AT&T, see LTE speeds below. Clearly not HSPA.

Show me a screenshot of your HSPA signal icon.
Also download LTE Discovery app, open it to show your current connection, take a screenshot and show us your HSPA.
By the way, this phone does NOT have an "HSPA" signal icon. It either says 4G (by which they apparently mean HSPA) or 4GLTE. See the very small LTE there? Are you being confused by that? I HATE the stock LG signal icons.
All setting is set for LTE, the guys from att store keep trying to put the US998's IMEI into their system and it would show up as unknown device, can you please go to your att account see if LG v30 shows up in your account? Mine shows nothing under my number

When I went to AT&T and handed them my phone, I told them to use the "AT&T H931" in the system as that's their version of the V30. They used my IMEI or serial number -- they used some number -- but I told them if there was any issues just to call it an H931, not an US998. There shouldn't be any issues, but I had to do that my last Motorola phone. I told them call it Nexus 6 as they didn't have Moto Maxx XT1225 in their system.
For my wife's V30 phone, I didn't even bother going to AT&T store. I just pulled her nano SIM card from her old phone (Moto Maxx XT1225) and stuck it in the new one.
Maybe you need to go to different AT&T store. Some are more competent than others.
thx for the info, all they did was trying the same IMEI over and over again
I have an unlocked US998- used a Sim card from old phone and everything worked fine, but the account showed "unknown device". I chatted online with at&t and they told me I needed a new SIM provisioned to the phone since it was unlocked for it to show in the system... Went to the store (they didn't believe me about the new SIM that was needed per the chat) anyway 2 Sims later they still couldn't put the IEMI in the system and just used generic numbers (which caused the system to recognize the phone as gsm/umts only)... We got tech support on and the they forced it to know the SIM as an LTE device, but both tech support and people at the store said there is no way to put the IEMI in from an unlocked device. No help from the tech support or store employees as it was showing no data... I had to go into the phone settings and search for a network (all around showed up like Sprint, VZ, us cellular, at&t UMTS, AT&T LTE,);; I picked the LtE one and restarted and all was fine. Still can't see the device in my account though (I personally think people are missing order on the at&t side)....
Anyway separate subject- if the phone shows as unknown in the system, how do I get system updates??? It's currently on 7.1.2 yet I know 8.0 is available...when I check for updates it shows that it's on the current version (I tried LG bridge, but that says "cannot get current software version"). So I'm stuck-up how do unlocked devices get updated??? I've gotten 3 different answers- at&t says it's from Lg, LG says it's from Google, and then someone else from at&t says it comes from them because the phone is on their network (not sure how that would be since it doesn't recognize the IEMI )... Anyway, help would be appreciated!

You'll should get updates from LG. You have the carrier unlocked model.
Besides that, most recent KDZ will be posted here on XDA, which you can flash with LGUP. If for some reason your update is not showing, just go down to this thread below and install Oreo 20B or whatever the newest one is. (I know a year from now someone will dig up this thread and say Oreo 20B is old.)

I don't see why it matters what shows on your AT&T account as long as you have LTE. I have two original US998 with active AT&T SIM cards -- of course with LTE -- on AT&T Prepaid. My sister now has a converted LS998 to US998 on AT&T postpaid , with LTE. Another friend has original US998 on AT&T postpaid. Again ALL have AT&T LTE. I get over 90MBPS LTE on AT&T.
What shows up on their or my AT&T account has never been a point of discussion.

Sorry to quote such an old Post...
I'm thinking about picking up an US998 for use on AT&T, in your experience have you noticed if HD Voice/ VoLTE is working on this device?
I know not to expect wifi calling, but it seems certain unlocked devices do have VoLTE working on AT&T.
All you have to do is flash an AT&T firmware to get all AT&T exclusive features on the device, including Wifi Calling (although you'll get the bloat as well). I wouldn't bother getting a US998, H931 (AT&T) and LS998 (Sprint) are always cheaper because they're """"network locked"""""

Haha, ya I'm aware of that. I specifically want to run the US998 firmware... I can't stand the carrier bloat.
I was hoping I'd be able to get VoLTE on the unlocked firmware.

I'm on AT&T Prepaid, so I do not have VoLTE. When I'm out and about, my phone drops down to HSPA temporarily during calls but I still have data. When call is over, it goes back to LTE.
I have Wi-Fi calling through Google Voice, when I'm on Wi-Fi. So, I can't really answer this question.
Even with the at&t firmware flashed on a US998 you won't get VoLTE. The only exception might be if the IMEI that was registered previously was an AT&T branded device and you just moved the sim to the US998. I even called AT&T and had them try to enable VoLTE support on my US998. The technician was actually helpful, but in the end they weren't able to get it working. If i try to enable VoLTE on my US998 with at&t firmware, its spins for a bit then comes back with a message that there was a problem and try calling customer support. If i put my SIM into an AT&T branded phone, then turn on VoLTE it enabled no problem. If I then switch the SIM back, it will work for a bit, then eventually revert back off.
