Just curious which one everyone is going with.
All my previous Note devices I always switched to Basic but Adaptive looks real good on this phone so I'm rolling with that for a while.
Adaptive here, I'm loving it!
Sent from my SM-N930T using Tapatalk
So far I'm using adaptive display, which works well enough. I don't need the utmost of color accuracy on my phone.
I'm using adaptive as well, i like the color it produces
Damn, no one else likes Basic mode?
I only use Basic. Everything else looks like a little too much color saturation.

I usually switch to cinema mode on Samsung devices but I'll rock adaptive awhile.
Sent from my SM-N930P using Tapatalk
Using Photo mode. Basic looks too washed out. On my S7 I didn't like Adaptive as much as it was a bit too saturated for my liking,so it was the first thing I changed here (out of habit).

Basic. It's just perfect.

I use basic since my note 4
.
The more saturated the more I love AMOLED, I don't care about accuracy I just want colour that makes me go wow! But I heard that Samsung have toned down the saturation on the Note 7 and this has really made me doubt I will love the phone when I finally get it next week.

Its def toned down. I actually prefer the screen on my S6 and Note 4.

Using Basic mode come with Blue light filter result less saturation than adaptive but more saturation than classic Basic mode. This also good for your eyes

Adaptive
Sent from my SM-N930F using Tapatalk
Seriously? 65% users here using Adaptive? What is wrong with Basic, the reason we use Samsung, the best colour calibration comes with Basic only, its good for ... well basically everything!
I know this thread is a bit old now but I thought I would update my view on this concern.
Now I actually have the Note 7 my anxiety over the colour saturation and screen modes has been eradicated! The display does not disappoint in any way and adaptive mode is surprisingly. . perfect!
I notice the difference between my Note 7 and my Galaxy Tab S, they look different but the Note 7 is equally good.

Hello everyone and sorry if this post is kinda obsolete, and I know that I'm in XPS forum so I'm expecting a biased answer.
How do you think the XPD holds up against the GN? I'm mostly disappointed about its camera, I love the screen despite its banding and image retention issues, and I've come from the Galaxy S line (S, S II and now Nexus). I think the nexus is a bit too big for me, but I was hoping someone brought a light on this matter.
Thanks everyone.

I have exactly the same phone history s sII nexus and now I have the XPS, I can only say, this phone is fantastic! It feels much better, it´s very fluent and uix is much better than touchwiz, I prefere it over the vanilla rom of the nexus! Which in my opinion is verrrry boring!

346ppi for the Xperia S?? It's 342ppi, but let's not split hairs...342ppi or 346ppi is still pretty impressive either way.
Yeah I've heard the screen is great, really crisp and it pars with AMOLED screens. I'm still waiting for it to launch in Portugal, as they said it would be on the 6th...Well we're on the 9th and nothing yet.
The Galaxy Nexus uses the PenTile layout, which uses less subpixels to build up pixels, so the effective resolution isn't really a true 720p. The Xperia S on the other hand is true RGB, and a lot better.
I have both. Screen on gnexus its bright and vivid but colors are fake. Xperia s colors are a lot more close to the real thing. Its just beautiful. Camera its a HUGE plus for me on a phone. And xperia s way way better camera than nexus. What else. I'm running BAMF rom on the nexus. Runs amazing.

Is it true that the Xperia S doesn't have auto-brightness? If not it's due to hardware or software limitation?

It does have auto brightness, despite some people say, as is with the xperia arc. There is auto brightness BUT there is no way to turn it on/off.

I don't believe that actually works. Try using a small torch on the light sensor and screen will change brightness. Hold light close to sensor for a few seconds and watch screen slowly brighten.

that should be easy...
firstly u need a PROPERLY rooted device (superuser and busybox installed)
then
find the automatic light sensor (als) sysfs:
Code:
find /sys/ | grep als
on ARC the als sysfs is here:
Code:
/sys/devices/i2c-0/0-0040/leds/lcd-backlight/als/
to disable it (on ARC) just execute:
Code:
echo '0' > /sys/devices/i2c-0/0-0040/leds/lcd-backlight/als/enable

The resolution is so high that you can't tell that the SAMOLEDHD screen is using a Pentile Layout, only with text and if you look very close.
With the galaxy nexus blacks were more black, there is no big difference in sharpness. When I play images on my Xperia S I sometimes wonder if it used anti-aliasing, because round thing (like the stock background) don't look very sharp, they looked much sharper on the samoledhd screen.
I think the bravia-engine, makes the colours look the as on an amoled display.
Sometimes greens are a bit oversaturated.
The one thing I really hated on amoled screens is that when you change screens, for instance go from the keyboard to a grey screen, you could still see the keyboard printed in the grey.
The only thing that I hate on this screen is that so have dead subpixels, I changed the phone today this one just has one big one and one small one which got away with a dead-pixel-fixer. Monday I will go to the shop to get a third one.
The color saturation on the camera is very very low and the images looked washed out. I can use an editing app but I'd like to figure out how to correct this in the native app itself.

Remember that the L9 is a cheap phone. Don't expect too much out of the camera. Mine is the same.
I'm use to the one v which was half the price. I guess I'll have to live with it lol.
Sent from my LG-P769 using Tapatalk 2
I always heard that Amoled displays have perfect blacks with no grey color, but when I use my phone in the dark the blacks still posses a soft grey tint with them. Why does that happen?
For pure black, the pixels are off. You're either not looking at pure black or what you're seeing is the colour and reflection of the screen
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
In theory , Yes, as RootSU mentioned, but the problem is there is something called "screen mode " or Color calibration, for easier understanding.
If you ever used Galaxy Nexus, then you know there is color calibration for the Super Amoled screen, but the problem is, it is very very very HARD to configure the pure black.
As far as I know, galaxy S3 doesn't have color calibration as I mentioned in Galaxy Nexus expect Perseus kernel but I don't think there is any one who is "boring " to do such configuration to display pure black as it may be useless through it could be interesting...
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
As you can read in screen tests, the GS3 has almost perfect blacks with a value of somewhere around 0,0010. So that's why you're noticing a greyish tint.

Also I forgot to tell you when I compared the amoled display to an LCD (iphone 5) I noticed at high brightness the s3 easily beats it up, but at low brightness the s3 display gets close to that of the iphone's or a bit worse (I'm not so sure about this I'm not too good when it comes to display tech).

I know the hardware of the camera in the G2 is supposed to be great, and people are raving over it, but coming from the Note 2, and even looking at my wife's GS3, I'm not a fan. Does anyone else experience the extremely poor auto focusing, and the ghosting when moving the camera to get your shot? I'm not well versed in the world of photography, and I like how dummy proof the Note 2 made things. If your subject moves (and seeing as mine is a 13 month old, she's always moving), the pics come out very poorly. With the quick auto focusing on the Note 2, great pics weren't a problem.
Anyone else experiencing this issue? Something I should try differently? I want to keep this device, but this problem will have me returning and waiting for the Note 3 or even heading to the dark side (and I REALLY don't want to), the iPhone 5S.
I have definitely noticed that this phone's camera doesn't like it when you're moving the phone or taking a picture of something that's moving. It's always disturbingly blurry when I move the camera around. However, stills look pretty great. The camera wasn't a huge selling point of the phone for me so I'm not too worried about it but I hope when we get custom ROMs developers will include better camera apps.

You're right - maybe there will be better camera apps when the custom ROMs hit. I'm willing to donate for that, no prob. I love everything about this device with the exception of that. I tried to install the GS3/Note 2 camera apk, but it wouldn't work sadly.
Change the iso. The HDR is incredible on the G2.

Coming from a Note 2 and S4, I've found the camera on the G2 to be much better in both normal and HDR modes.
I had some poor auto focus shots at first until I realized all the smudges on the camera lens from learning to locate the rear buttons appropriately.

This is truly a great pic. And I agree it is a great cam, which is why I'm bummed I'm getting poor pics. I think my biggest problem is how slow it is to focus. The picture is gone by the time it does.

Some Times auto focus does take longer than usual but I must say coming from a note 2 and lumia 928 this camera trumps them both easily. Try sports mode for the kids.it worked very well in my niece today! You won't get the low light sensitivity though.

Hi all,
I was pointed to this thread on another forum:

The intro is in Chinese, but once you scroll through it you get to the English menus and interface.
I downloaded the most recent version (3.5) and installed it on my rooted G2. Boy! What a better app! Seems to have a better AE method and there are a lot of very cool options to toy with while retaining manual control.
I've been using it for an hour now and I really like it.

I noticed that too, but when you actually take the picture it does pre-AF and I've had excellent results. Didn't screw around with manual focus yet.

i don't like camera zoom much..but this is damn good. i love all the settings.
---------- Post added at 06:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:08 PM ----------
funny thing i noticed though..in video, mode, it shows a couple stuck white pixels.
they aren't there on the stock camera. i'm wondering if the software is a bit glitchy when it comes to third party video cameras. i noticed this on the GPE camera as well. weird right?
I've been comparing some identical shots between stock camera and super camera, and I'm surprised to see that Super Camera actually looks better. There is more detail and it's a little darker so it doesn't appear washed out. I wouldn't have complained about the stock camera since it's great, but this looks even better.
I haven't tried many lighting conditions, so it might be worse in some cases. I haven't tried video either, but I noticed an option for image stabilization. I think it's software stabilization, but I wonder if it works in conjunction with OIS. Anyone know?

EDIT: I tried a lot more pics, and it turns out that the stock camera is actually more detailed when viewing at 100%. It also is more color accurate. The super camera isn't bad at all though.
