Can I sell a rooted Galaxy S to a recycle mobile company?
I would like to sell my old phone to a recycle place. But do these companies accept rooted Android mobiles?
Is ROOT something they check for, or a reason they refuse to accept a phone?
Any advice welcome
Cheers
I don't see why not but it depends on what type of recycle. If they are destroying it and using it for parts the it won't matter. If they are giving it
Away then unroot it

you might get problems if its a refurbisher
so if u want to be on the safe side flash it back to stock rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1185073
a company got back to me today offered me 50% of the value if its rooted.
Total BS
They are just looking for ways to haggle the price down
So
How can I (with my Galaxy S1 Vodafone UK):
Remove all personal DATA -(is that just wipe SD and Factory reset)
reflash the correct back to the correct Stock rom (I didn't note the original rom). I checked sam mobile there are a few uk voda FW. will any uk vodafone FW do - or is there a risk of bricking the phone?
also can i remove all traces of rooting (just in case)

If your phone gets reflashed by odin everything is gone
its like formatting your pc and installing a new windows
if you found a uk fw thats vodaphone branded u could flash it
but u could take one without branding too i mean u dont want to sell it back to vodaphone aint you ? sooo i could have bought it in a store without branding

So does any UK FW work on the phone? Are there any limits? I dont want to F it up
Aslo does this remove the rooting and traces of rooting?
Yes it should work
the uk reginal code just means that this rom was developed to be used in the uk
for instance i am living in germany but i have an austrian rom cus the value pack is not supported in germany
but it works like it would be a german rom
however
this should whipe everything on your phone
but for ur internal sd storage search for a program thats formatting it filling it with crap software and deleting afterwards again
this will 1000000% delete all data on external sd storage

Hi,
I am looking into getting a European ROM running on the sgs3 I bought here in China.
I tried downloading the official Samsung rom from UK, but I failed during installation of the modem part. It rendered my phone useless, and it took hours getting it back up with the kies and the official Chinese rom.
I used the software called Odin i believe, to attempt the update.
To me, it seems as if it is not that easy, maybe due to the modem thing, but can anyone verify that this will never work?
The main reason for applying a different rom is, that it seems that none of the Google apps are going to work. I can't install them, but they won't run. The apps seem to load, put with no message, it closes and the phone returns to the previous screen.
Anyone with any input on this?

I have been searching and searching but have not been successful in finding a solution.

Huum, but you were able to install Google Play? I already installed twice but the app keeps crashing everytime that I try to open it.
And I must say; I was frustrated to realize that my SGS3 didn't came with a SD card on it.
Hi,
I was able to install it yes, but have the same problem as you. It starts to load, and suddenly it just disappears.
No cash message, no nothing. That is why I think this is a limitation that is put there on purpose.

Hi,
Just for an update.
I was looking into getting a european rom on to my phone, but ended up doing a ROOT instead, and then install Google Apps.
Everything is just the way I like them now
To root and install CWM (Needed to install the Google Apps), i followed this guide:
*Can't link to the guide due to forum policies. PM me, and I will give you the link
After having downloaded the software neccesary, it took about 30 seconds for my phone to be ready.
I then did more or less as this guide *Can't link to the guide due to forum policies. PM me, and I will give you the link says.
With the only exception, that I copied the Google Apps zip-file to the SD card from Windows explorer, and bootet into recovery mode by holding the HOME, VOLUME UP and POWER button at the same time, after having powered off my phone.
Now, all the apps are working as I have been used to.
To solve your Problem and install official rom from Samsung to your phone you need to buy Odin Mobile.
For Chinese phone, when you use computer with odin, there is something that is blocked on the Phone so you cannot install any firmware from odin using the pc.
With odin Mobile u can flash >>>> personnally i flashed the one of Samsung GS3 HK because i still want to have some chinese stuff in my phone as i like to have.. And work perfectly !
Hope it will help you ! cordially!

But what I have done, is to find the modem-file for installation, and I am now using a rom called Omega, currently a version 19.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663656
First off, I install the ROM, and afterwards, I install the modem.
Everything seems to be working just fine.
The Omega rom, is the official Samsung rom, with some "hacks" - during installation you are for instance asked if you want the complete thing, or if you want to leave out all bloatware.
Official Samsung will no longer be available OTA, as the updating process detects, that the phone has been altered.
I live in China and own a SGS3 bought here in china. What you have to do is flash a kernel that is compatible with TRIANGLE AWAY to reset to zero the flash counter on the phone. Then you should be able to flash any original Samsung ROM made for the SGS3. If it doesn't work, you might also have to flash the stock XLH1 modem. Then it should work.

Hello thank's for your support. Are you sure that it will work with a Unicom brandet S3? I tried to flash it before, after this it doesn't work anymore. So i had to go to Samsung service point and pay to recover it. Thanks'
solution
Hello all,
i found the solution. The Chinese S3 has another boot sector, so it can't be flashed by Odin with any other firmware.
I found in a Chinese forum how to make it.
First you have to root, this was no problem.
You have to install mobile odin, because mobile doesn't flash the boot image.
Now you can copy any firmware to sd card and flash.
Best Regards

"Full Firmware" is firmware 4 file or 5 file (BL_ , AP_ , CP_ , CSC_ , EFS_ ,...), sometimes is a single file (All_...) and include the standard PIT files. When you flash "Full Firmware" & PIT files, all devices partitions will be repair, re-fomat and factory reset devices.
When do need "Full Firmware" ?
Soft brick
Failed to mount a partition: efs, data, system,...
Failed flash firmware via Odin (stop at a partition: HIDDEN, CACHE,...)

There's already a thread for the SM-N950F/DS Model:

The correct unlocked (SM-N950U1) version can be found here:

The carrier versions of the Unlocked (SM-N950U1) "aqh9"...only differ by including the product activation information that the SIM provides during provisioning. Flashing the XAA unlocked firmware and inserting SIM is the same as flashing any of the SM-N950U1 brand labeled firmware like SPR AQH9...

Canada firmware link points to AT&T firmware. Could someone please update that link? I will be sending my phone in for refund (to get the N950F), and want to completely reset it.
Side note, anyone know how they check airtime usage to determine return eligibility? I'm well under 30 minutes, but I'm curious regardless.

Nope. Apparently, when I installed the Unlocked firmware, it automatically partitioned my device. I had to do a factory reset to recover my 128gb storage.
It actually worked. Thanks anyway. I'm actually learning a lot. First time customizing an Android device (just changed from an iPhone 6 Plus).

So, would I be able to use this process to load the Verizon firmware to my Unlocked Note 8? I bought an unlocked version from Samsung, but there are several features that seem to be unavailable (visual voicemail, accessing internet when on phone, etc.). Would loading the Verizon firmware fix that issue for me?
Verizon tech support has not been of much use trying to get these features working on my unlocked phone, so I'm hoping that if it "magically" becomes a Verizon phone, the features would start working.
Note that I have tried Shortcut Master to get around these limitations, but no luck so far.

I can't get back to stock as I used the first method of samfail and now my bootloader reflects aqh8 and my system/baseband reflects aq15. I tried using Odin and get device mismatch errors I tried using kies it doesn't recognize my phone even in emergency mode. Any ideas how to get back to complete stock aq15 or at least on how to get bootloader to match system as aq15?
See how bl reflects aqh8? Is there a way to get it to match the rest at aq15? Or does everyone who used samfail root method look this way? How would I go back to Stock since I'm getting device mismatches in odin.
Please any help would be greatly appreciated

Downgrade is not possible due to binary version error. The binary of UAETG3 is 10 which is so far the highest and Samsung restricts downgrading to older binary.
Take it to a Samsung repair facility if you have one.. They can get it back for you.

/edit At the beginning he said I can install any custom rom I want (I wanted LineageOS/ArrowOS, so no stock based ROM) and that the fix is permanent, meaning I can reset the phone, do updates etc.
In the end, however, it looked quite different. I can neither use LineageOS, or ArrowOS. I can only use the stock based ROM from alexis. I can't do any updates. (not even security updates) I can't reset the phone, or switch to the stock ROM. When you do a simple wipe, mobile data is not working anymore. Really much trouble, installed several custom roms. Then I asked if an update would be possible (that's where he has to step in again, I can't do that by myself) and he said it wasn't sure if it would work. So now I am stuck on this build forever. High security risk. This is only a temporary solution and not worth it. I paid 30€. I bought a new phone and would recommend it to you guys as well. I will use the phone only for home without mobile data feature and install the latest stock rom.
has anyone find a solution for this?
Dear friends, i invite all of us to discuss this sore subject in a separate toric., and here's what so far I managed to find out.
My flashed Chinese device XQ-BC72 (flashed to Russian f/w) stopped getting OTA updates. Without thinking twice i flashed back device`s native Chinese f/w and after that OTA update was immediately recieved by my device (i flashed Chinese .31 f/w).
So how I managed to figure out, OTA update service is not breakes forever, it`s restored after flashing f/w with device`s native region.
Let's think together now how to fix it.
I'm wondering, if this could be because of Newflasher doesn`t flash persist.sin in new versions, and the traces of the firmware of its native region remain in the device ? I know that persist delete some verification keys and certificates, but, maybe, OTA service will remain ofter FULL f/w flashing with persist.sin file ?
What do you think ?
And one more the most important question !
DOES ANYONE FINALLY GOT THE OTA UPDATE ON ANY REFLASHED DEVICE ???
I MEAN REFLASHED FROM YOUR NATIVE F/W TO ANY ANOTHER ONE !
IS THERE AT LEAST ONE SUCH CASE ????
Same here, flashed SEA firmware with no OTA received now.
It's interesting that somebody reports that software version in software info (Dial #*#*7378423*#*#) shows GLOBAL-C2 after flashing, though mine is still SEA-C2 which matches my firmware version. Not sure if this related to the issue.

Global C2 - Hong Kong. There are two ways for you to see Global C2 in software info is to flash HK f/w or to buy the device from HK.
Didn't have this device but would like to ask you guys, If the OTA is dead then is the "check update" option in Xperia Companian still work or not?
Persist.sin shouldn't have anything to do with it. I always delete them before flashing with older models using both Flashtool and Newflasher and it never breaks OTA.
Wonder if this issue could be related to a bootloader bug in this device that many people here encountered a bootloop when finished flashing and had to mess with active partition slot to get fixed? I remembered that the a/b partition slot is related to system update and OTA too.

I think you are right, if the new flasher only flash to slot a (so that we need to set a to be active) then OTA update is not available since the update will be to slot b which is a different version of software. We can verify this by using the new flasher twice once for slot a (set a active) and once for slot b (set b active). Just a guess, it might destroy your phone!
I bought my Xperia 1 iii from Hong Kong (XQ-BC72), and used newflasher to flash the software of the US version of the device thinking that it may solve the issue of not having 5G working and VOLET in my country, Saudi Arabia.
Unfortunately nothing changed, so I decided to re-flash the original software of the device HK (61.0.A.11.92).
Now, I get the OTA software update as you can see in the attachments, but it stops immediately after beginning of the installation process.
I hope this is beneficial information and let's all work to try to find a solution for this issue.

Hmmm...
Well, when i found out that OTA system stop working on non-native f/w, i re-flashed my device to it native China f/w, and after that it recieved OTA update immediately after i started flashed device and set it up, and update installed with no problem then.
Now my device is still on that f/w ....92, and it`s not recieved new update yet (...14.3) , when the phone will get this update, i`ll try to install it as usual, and i`ll report how did everything go, hope it will work well.
You know what, try to restore your device with Xperia Companion, i did so. Maybe OTA not working well because of changed slot (you changed it before flashing, right ?), and when you recover your device with Companion, maybe it will set all by default as it is necessary for everything to work correctly

Already tested that flashing without changing to slot A will brick the phone. When my device was flashed Russian version of f/w, which is NOT native for my device, i tried to change the slot from A to B, and i did it, but after that all still the same, device didn`t get OTA updates.
So i had to reflash China rom again, and restored after that device with XC.

Did you actually flash to both slot A and B since I try the fastboot command to change slot I was not successful. The change slot command failed due to locked bootloader.
Friends, does anyboby knows exactly what`s happening with OTA sytem when device reflashed on non-native f/w ? What exactly breaks down in the device firmware ???
We tried an experiment, flashed Chinese device BC72 with Russian f/w on both slots, A, and then B, when active A, system boots, but no OTA recieved after that. When we set active B, then logo + bootloop. I repeat, f/w was flashed on both slots! When we returned slot A as active, device boots great, but still NO OTA.
HOW WE CAN FIX IT ?!
So far no success getting OTA after flashing different firmware. But i just update using new flasher so that i can enjoy the new patch and so far working for me. My data and settings are still intact so i think as of now this is the best solution. Mine originally china convert to SEA firmware..

me too exactly same as you cn flash over with SEA. do you update by just flash new flasher on top. Use flash all? or i need to delete something in order to not wipe data?
