Draw Over apps - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

this is about pokemon go. so i try using some xposed module. so this apps required overlay. but the problem i cant toggle pokemon go to overlay an apps due to the permission is greyed out. is there any way for me to toggle it on. i already rooted my phone and was on android 6.1. any help will be great thanks

I've had this error on many apps. Only solution I've found so far is to hold the power button until the power off option come up then hold long press power off until "safe mode" option comes up. You can set permissions once in safe mode.

Power button not working. Need a work around APP

Hello. Recently my Galaxy s2 power button hasn't been working. As in when I either hold it down or press it, it doesn't lock the screne or pull the power menu. It works now and then but yeah I have to press it over and over again.I plan on getting it repaired soon but I'm looking for an workaround. I've seen apps that let me turn my phone off, lock it and such but nothing brings open the power menu button with screenshot, recovery mode, airplane mode and such. Is there anything like that out there? That with a press of the button it would open up my power menu options
try rom manager

Use "Button Savior" from Play Store.
It is just HW buttons on screen including power button. (Like Nexus On-Screen Keys)
And it has long press power menu also, which shows Screenshot, Airplane, Silent etc.
P.S.
[Free advice]
If you get that button repaired, use something like Proximity Sensor based app which locks and unlocks phone screen. So power button will be used less.
(I know this consumes a bit more battery, but still battery is lot cheap and easy to change than power button)

Press Thanks if helped.

Change Power Menu longpress timeout (Xposed)

One of the things I love about AOSP ROMs as opposed to LG ROMs is that the power menu activates a lot quicker. I recently found a way to replicate this effect using Xposed.
1. Install Xposed (make sure you're on Dalvik)
2. Install Xposed additions, then activate it and reboot. There appears to be a pro version, though you won't be needing it for this.
3. Go to Buttons, Long Press Delay = whatever you want. 100 is the lowest, 250 feels about right. Too low and your risk activating the power menu when trying to lock the phone.
4. Tap "Add new Key", then press the Power button to detect it. Press OK and then enter the newly created "Power" option
5. Tap "Add New Condition", then tap "Screen On". Optionally add "Lock Screen" as well. No need to add "Screen Off", I don't mind the long delay when the screen is off as it prevents against accidental activation.
6. Inside the Condition, check Long Press, then configure it to open the Power Menu. Make sure to do this for each condition.
Ta-da, instantaneous Power Menu.
Thanks ? What you think about module for additional apps in Quick Window on stock KitKat? ?

Screen Off Device Administrator forcibly latching to hardware Search button?

I can't seem to find any sort of way to turn this action off, as it makes my hardware search button unusable for anything else.
for a while I thought I had an issue with the ROM on my phone and this button, but it seems it was Greenify all along. I've been using it since August and must have activated said device administrator down the line.
so, I went in on a similar phone and found that it was Greenify doing it all along.
Now, when I long-press the Search button on either phone, it brings the notification up asking if it can be allowed, and I do not want this.
this is a Motorola Droid 4 and a Motorola Droid Razr MAXX that this is both happening on, running LineageOS 14.1. as I see it, these are among the oldest phones able to run 14.1, but all the more need to run Greenify for screen-off battery savings, especially since these are low-RAM devices (1GB, 838MB of which is able to be utilized).
with Greenify installed, the search button is unmappable in the system settings; Greenify takes it over and never lets go. it also prevents from anything being mapped for short press as well; it becomes a dead button able to do nothing except sleep the phone if the device administrator for Greenify is active and a "hey, do you want to activate it?" nag button otherwise if the button is long-pressed or accidentally long-pressed. this is release, not beta.

This is still happening even after the recent update. This is annoying and I do not like it that Greenify is forcibly latching it onto a hardware button that I'd like to use for other things.
I would understand if this was a Bixby button thing for newer Samsung phones, but this is not a samsung phone.
What if you go to Android Settings > Apps > cog wheel > Assist & voice input, under Assist app, does it say Greenify? If yes, try changing it to None.
Edit: Okay I just found out I can add a search button to the on screen navigation bar (am also on LineageOS 14.1). And indeed, long pressing it turns off the screen and hibernates any apps pending hibernation.
This while Settings > Long-press action on nav-bar is unchecked and Assist app is set to None. Then again, I now realize these settings are all about the home button, and you were talking about the search button. So I'm afraid all I can do is confirm the behaviour you described. I'm using the latest version from Play Store, v3.9.9.1.
I don't have a Screen Off Device Administrator though, but my device is rooted. Also,
with Greenify installed, the search button is unmappable in the system settings

I don't have an option in Android Settings > Buttons to remap the search button, do you? Might be device specific (I don't have one of the phones you mentioned, nor a hardware search button).

Re-enabling Bixby

Hi,
I got an S9+ a couple of months ago. Since I had little use for Bixby, and I kept accidentally hitting that key, I disabled said Bixby key. Also, I am using the Nova launcher because older Samsung and Asus phones and tablet taught me the efficiency of Infinite Scroll and I can't live without it anymore, so the leftmost desktop window dedicated to Bixby is gone and can be used for apps.
Now I tried to re-enable it and tadaaa, it's not possible. From what I have found so far, to launch Bixby you have to re-enable it, and to re-enable it you have to access the Settings menu when it is already launched . Sure, I can disable the Nova launcher, scroll to the leftmost stop-window with Bixby and re-enable the button. If it's still there, I don't dare look . But doing this every time I want to look at it will get old fast. So I was wondering whether there was a way to start Bixby without the button, like an app icon or something.
Thanks.
i disabled and wanted back so i hold screen down to home screen -> enabled bixby home -> swap right (to go left) -> enabled bixby key... dont know other way...that worked for me

[PSA] [WARNING] Android Pie Beta + Secure Startup + WQHD = Black Screen [FIX]

Anyone on the Android Pie Beta may have noticed the little * in the changelog telling you to disable Secure Startup.
If you were like me and assumed it would just be for the first boot after updating and re-enabled secure startup afterwords you may be facing this issue too where you can no longer use your phone because the screen is not coming on.
Luckily i found a pretty nice fix thanks to a user on Reddit HERE

I had this issue! There is a way to fix this!
You need to get Bixby set up blindly, and then ask to activate power saving mode, and turn it on. It'll lower the screen resolution and fix the issue. This is how I sorted it out.
I can post screenshots of what area to press, so you can get it set up.
Edit: Album with screenshots for Bixby, literally the one time it has come in handy, ahah!
By default, the navigation bar will be at the bottom, so find the home button, then move up slightly from there. After set up, ask Bixby to turn on power saving mode, then hit the area to confirm. After you have done this, do a reset of your settings in the menu, and it'll fix it. No factory restore needed. Hope this helps anyone.

Seems to be a bug with Android Pie + Secure Startup + a WQHD+ resolution.
So you need to change the resolution and then disable secure startup so it does not happen again.
I managed to get Bixby to enable power saving mode by unlocking the phone with my fingerprint, tapping the bixby key (you should be able to hear bixby welcome you) and tapping where the next arrow should be at the bottom center of the screen,
After this i held the Bixby Key and asked her to enable power saving, and then tapping apply (blind) near the bottom right of the screen.
