1080p 60FPS Video still screwed up on Snapdragon version - Note 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

Just an FYI. I had the S7 Edge and this was a known issue. Looks like it carried over to the Note 7. I'm on day two of having my Note 7 and I tested out some 60fps video and it still has that weird choppy/laggy effect that was reported (and confirmed) on the S7 and S7e.
Hopefully this gets fixed sometime soon. It kind of makes the 60fps video useless.

its the same internals, the software engineer just probably tweak it a little to fit the note 7 usage, I'm not surprise tbh.

I just took a 1080p60fps video on my Note7 and it's very smooth. No choppiness.

Are you saving to internal storage or external sd? If the latter, it may have to do with your card's speed.
I just shot a clip in 1080/60 and it was buttery smooth. I'm using a Snapdragon version btw.

It's not the speed of my card. It's a class 10. But there is a long thread on XDA for this exact issue with the snapdragon S7.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/help/1080p60fps-lag-focus-t3346794
But there is always that one guy who swears he doesn't have an issue, no matter how many times it's confirmed.

Have you tried filming with video stabilization turned off? OIS is always on by default, but the Video Stabilization option in the camera settings is for digital stabilization. I noticed my video looks slightly stuttery when I turn it on.
EDIT: nevermind. I tested again. I don't see any stuttering.
EDIT 2: Here, I recorded a video and uploaded to youtube. Be sure to change it to 1080p60 in the YouTube app or on a computer browser. Maybe my eyes aren't picking up on something. I personally don't see any problems. But either way, I'll record in regular 1080p most of the time anyway, so it doesn't matter much to me.
We were watching Amy Schumer on Hulu, hence the laughing in the background.

Oh my SD card there is studdering both viewed while recording and when played back.
When its stored on internal memory it is smooth. My Micro SD card a 200GB Sandisk card, guess it can't keep up with the EVO.

It's not the card speed. That stopped being an issue after we passed class 6. These days, most cards are UHS and plenty fast enough to record 4k and 60fps video.

No choppiness here with 1080p 60fps or Slomo. SD820. Recorded some disc golf today. Perfect.
I have a PNY U3 64gb sdcard. Handled 4k perfect as well.
Not that it makes any difference (wouldn't think)...but for the people with choppiness....curious, what sensor do you have on the rear? Sony or Samsung? Use AIDA64 to find out. It's under "devices". I have a Sony rear shooter and Sammy front.

A class 10 card isn't ideal. Try it on a UHS Class 3. I'm not saying the issue doesn't exist, but that your sd card might be the problem.

32GB Sandisk micro sd, class 2 fast enough?

Hi, I am looking to purchase a memory card for my transformer and am concerned about not being able to play movies from it due to stuttering....
Has anyone tried the standard Sandisk card yet? I always use Sandisk products and know their words are always faster than what an equivilent competitor card states.
Just doesnt seem to be many 32GB options available in the UK at present.

if your looking to play high def 720p or 1080p then i'd go with class 10. class 2 will most likely lag.
I bought a Patriot 32gb MicroSD class 10. It works great.
Classes are WRITE speed. We had a thread about this the other day and many members confirmed that class 2's were streaming fine... it would just take AGES to put anything onto it

Part of the problem is that the counterfeit market for these is huge and the fake ones have a massive failure rate.
Sandisk Class 2 usually can go up to Class 4 write speeds from my experience, not like it matters for video playback though, any Sandisk MicroSD can pump at least 10MB/s read, more than any 1080p video's bitrate.

[Q] Which micro SD card?

I'm thinking of buying another micro SD card for my Razr. Current one is 4GB, Class 6 from Transcend. Thinking of getting a 8/16GB one, class 6 and above. Anyone has any recommendations on which SD card to get?
Sandisk? Most devices come with a Sandisk card so I would imagine they are good cards.

I have two 32GB class 10 cards (one for my phone, one for my camera). This link helps with deciding which class will perform best for your needs. One is a PNY and one a Transcend - both work well and don't lag when recording HD movies or pics.
Using 32GB class 10 from Lexar. So far satisfied.

Hey guys, just a quick question. For recording 1080p videos using the phone, which class would perform well enough for a normal user?
Edit: If I do make a purchase on Amazon.com, where do I head to if I have any warranty issues?

Ah I see. Class 10 is like the highest already eh. If that's the case, I'd have to cut the capacity since I've got some budget going on.
Brand-wise, PNY Transcend Sandisk etc, which are more reliable btw?

Look at the link specs and price them out on Amazon or wherever. Maybe you'd do better not going to a 10 but happy with a 6. But given the specificity of you asking about HD recording, a 10 would be ideal. Mine were in the $38-$45 range and both have performed without problems.
I've been using Sandisk cards for the last few years. Picked up a pair of 32GB Class 6 Micro-sd cards for $20 each. My HTC Sensation had no problems recording 1080p Video on those cards.
ADATA Class 10 32GB - Best one, but maybe the more expensive too. Its up to you on how much want to spend.
Have you guys/gals notices any difference in video quality with different speed cards? Is the 1080p video on a class 6 card looking as crispy and clear as on a class 10 card?

Thats what i thought, but when i play the video to my 50" tv the class 10 card video seems better quality. Is it possible is has to do with the read speed difference?
Hmm. I went to google, and I found that a few posts actually says that a Class 10 card would actually be too fast for a phone. Since the phone won't be able to handle those speeds. Any truth to that?

I'm using class 10 and have no problems at all with recording or playback. The SD Association recommendations are:
What are the applications for Speed Class?
Class 2 : H.264 video recording, MPEG-4, MPEG-2 video recording
Class 4: MEPG-2 (HDTV) video recording, digital still camera (DSC) consecutive photo shooting
Class 6: Mega-pixel DSC consecutive photo shooting, professional video camera
Class 10: Full HD video recording, HD still picture consecutive shooting

Photos on SD or internal?

Hi everybody
I just got my phone yesterday and after inserting my class 2 16gb the phone asks me where i want to save pictures when taken with the camera. Any of you with performance "tests" regarding this so far?
Best regards

class 2 will defininitely not work with HD recording. correct me if im wrong. photo's are okay for that but if you will gonna load pictures in the gallery app i can guarantee you there will be some latency in loading thumbnails.

In your position I would save them on the internal card. As you probably know it will offer a faster transfer rate than the external SD card, especially as your sd card is class 2.
I doubt this will have an impact when taking single shots, but features like burst mode may suffer. Videos are very unlikely to work smoothly.
As your internal memory will have 16gb or more of space I dont see the downside. You can always use a file manager to copy files to the external card if problems arise.
If you are tempted by a faster SD card then this one seems to be universally regarded as the best. In case you are not sure about SD cards class system, an explanation can be found here.

SanDisk Extreme Pro microSDHC

Have a Verizon Galaxy Note 3 and reformatted my SanDisk 16GB Class 4 microSDHC that I had for my old phone to utilize with my new powerhouse. Upon taking pictures, I was not thrilled at all with the "Processing" time it was taking between shots. Purchased a SanDisk 16GB Extreme Pro microSDHC and did not notice any difference in processing time. Downloaded app "A1 SD Bench" and results from the test were Read speed of 21.48MB/s and write speed of 18.16MB/s. I can't seem to get a definitive answer if the Note 3 is UHS-1 compatible. If it is, I wonder if anyone else has achieved satisfactory results with the pairing of these to or if I am looking at a bunk card.
The processing bit appears when using "Smart Stabilisation". Turn it off and it should be instant. Also, afaik Note 3 doesn't support UHS-1.
I used a UHS-1 64GB with my note 2 and S 3 but unfortunately it died and I'm in the RMA process. But the card does work and at least in Note 2 there was no noticeable lag. Once I get my new card I'll try out that app.

with a USB 3.0 reader, the Extreme Plus numbers were near or better than the advertised speeds. The Ultra was less than 30MB/s (which is the advertised speed)
Won't much of a difference within the phone since the phone doesn't support UHS-I
Currently running a Sandisk 32gb Class 4 and no issues here as I save my pics into the internal memory and move over if required. Might go class 10 when the 64gb becomes cheaper.

Which card and size are you using, if any. I remember reading some time ago that adding a SD card tends to slow the whole phone down in general. This is why I haven't decided to add one yet.

Well that's good to know. I have a spare brand new SanDisk Extreme Plus intended for my GoPro Hero 8 Black that I might just throw in. It is the red and gold card with ratings of V30 A2 3. This card records 4K on my gopro with no issues, so i assume it can handle the phone flawlessly.
I have an integral 512gb and whilst the general phone performance is fine I get the sense that the card performance is not great, one example is netflix stores downloads on the card and I get a spinning wheel during playback almost as In do if I am streaming
There will definitely be a performance lag but it's only noticeable when accessing the sdcard.
This is due to the ufs3.0 internal and transfer speed of the sdcard.
But tbh it is negligible unless you move apps to sdcard. For me I only store backups and media such as videos and photos to sdcard.
Sent from my SM-G985F using Tapatalk
Unless the card is faulty then I think the phone is the bottleneck anyway, the S20 cannot take advantage for an A2 card for example so no point spending money on a faster card.
Not moving any apps to SD at all. Not even setting it as a default storage for my camera either. I have my default video set to 4K 30fps, and I have a 5 year old that I'm constantly snapping. So you can imagine how quick the internal storage is going to fill up. This is strictly for me to transfer all my videos to.
Same as unomedman1
I only have a 64gb from my old s8 , & it contains my music and all the files needed for Root , titan backup apps & data , apps in apk form & camera pictures.
Internal drive is for downloads & apps & pictures. I'd never install apps to the sd though

Nope you cant because its automatically saved on internal storage even you've set it to SD Card as default storage. But its never be a big problem because the A2 SD Card transfer rate are really faster to move yo ur 4K or even 8K videos to your SD Card. But only with atleast A1 or A2 rate MicroSD. In normal MicroSD, it will take a lomg time to move your large files to the external.
