Yeah im gonna be uploading it to AFH should be on later tonight sorry for the delay ..
***Warning*** If you have taken the Green Battery OTA you CAN NOT go back to this Firmware with any Odin method as of now. In short, you lost root abilities.
I had to donate $5 to SamFirm.net but I am currently uploading them to AFH, link is below. The PIT file is ready, but ROM still uploading as of 7:40 am CST

As Always, you are on your own with theses files should you choose to flash them. They were posted HERE and I re-hosted them to AFH after paying the $5 "donation". One can seriously damage their device if they dont know what they are doing, if this is you...wait for a guide!
my phone did the dumb update will i be able to still flash these ?
this is that dumb update in full ROM form. these files are used mainly to go back to stock after we hopefully achieve root. or if you brick, this is the files to restore your device to that out the box state.
strange but I've always been one of those hardcore AOSP types, but with my Note 7 I only want root for a few select apps. TouchWiz is not that bad compared to Galaxy S 2 days.

lol figured it would, to many things in place by samsung to allow. plus this update that just came, i think patched 4 CVS related to Qualcomm chip and root. even if we get a basic root, we are still far from custom ROMs, need bootloader for that.
Does anyone know if this firmware can be flashed on other variants such as the Verizon N930v? Similar to the GS7/S7Edge? (I'm running factory PF2 AT&T firmware on my Verizon S7 at the moment.. flashed flawlessly without root.. I want to do the same thing but with the Note 7, since I can get Verizon devices at 2yr pricing on my business account instead of monthly payments on AT&T)
Also, is flashing the PIT file required for flashing the rest?

I achieved this on my S7 without root by flashing the G930U (unlocked model) firmware, as it didn't have mobile tethering restrictions. Once/if the U firmware is available for the Note 7, you could probably do the same.. pending on if all devices can receive the firmware from other models. (Which I asked on this thread a few minutes ago)..

No you don't have root. You can use Samsung Side Sync on your PC to enable tethering however. It requires the phone to be plugged into your computer/laptop though. No wireless hotspot unfortunately.

Hi everyone,
Just got my AT&T Galaxy Note, about to Root it, Overclock/Undervolt, etc.
Does anyone know if there's a stock ROM for it floating about, that would make it a hair easier, if not, away we go! Will start a new thread as soon as things are ready, it will probably be an Odin Kernel flash root so note that it will trigger the custom binary counter in Odin, although no ones run into problems with that yet that I know of..
Hope you figure out how to root 2.3.6
So far, no one has figured out how to root the international version (LA4)
if they update via kies without downgrading, rooting, upgrading via ODIN.
Glad to see you over here.
Really quiet in here. Hopefully some action for the Rogers I717R Note also.

I'm uploading a system dump now for anyone to pick through when they toast theirs. more of a safety precaution than anything.

You should be able to get a stock firmware of any Samsung phone by using CheckFUS
Download "check fus" from the market and run it on your phone. Note the exact model number, Product Code, PDA, CSC, PHONE values.
Then open on your computer Checkfus you downloaded from the website i linked above,
1) click advanced tab
2) chose OS as Android
3) Model SGH-i717
4) Product Code, copy from your phone's check fus app
5) Hidswver: copy the PDA/CSC/PHONE/PDA info from the check fus on your phone
Click the check firmware button and it should let you download the most recent firmware for your phone.
I don't have the phone but this worked for just about any Samsung phone i had, including AT&T models.
If someone can provide me the product code and relevant information using check fus i would appreciate it as i am trying to download a stock rom
I want to adapt it for use in the korean rom

We can't do custom roms without a custom recovery (cmw or twrp). I don't think custom recoveries are available yet. Unless you know something I don't (and that's very possible since I don't know much - lol).

Do you have a metro pcs mega? And if so, did you odin flash twrp on your phone?
I want to be sure before I try because I bricked my metro pcs mega the day I bought it and never got it back working. I had to go back to MetroPCS and get another one. I do not plan on bricking the one I have now. I don't want to take a chance until I know I can recover it from a soft brick.
Without having a firmware that can be flashed in odin, I'm scared to try anything.

Yes I have the Mega from Metro Pcs. That's why posted the link to the other thread.
Yeah, I rooted and and installed the recovery than was like hmm probably shouldn't have done that with out there being a firmware release but oh well. I'm wild that way.
I instilled it through Odin. the only file from that link I used was this one.. http://goo.gl/J5JAH0
Tested Working 100%
I downloaded the attached file, put phone into download mode and flashed the recovery via odin 307. I fully booted the phone and then shut it off to reboot into recovery which is now replaced with TWRP.
Now to see if I can find a lighter ROM something like extremesperia. I haven't seen any multi-carrier roms for this phone so I am not sure what will work.
I also used the backup feature and was able to backup the entire phone.

any of the gsm roms are likely to work on the metro mega, the CM 11 build definitely will as it works on the canadian mega that i have which has all the same specs as the metro mega. the only reason to get the canadian mega in the past was because it was unlocked without a locked bootloader.

I wouldn't go that far tbh...I'd be somewhat cautious as at least on my note 2...there are several variants and all have the same hardware, but run into issues flashing roms incompatible to your specific device. It's kinda guess and check as I've seen i9200 which is the 3g mega intl have a few minor apk issues vs i9205 lte on my rom alone, much less larger issues like framework and data structures or kernel variances between intl and carrier based. Just heads up from someone who builds for several different devices and hardware configs. When it comes to carriers sometimes it's hard telling what the hell they're doing lol.
One thing major is for carrier based devices of any kind, the biggest thing is the modem...If you flash an intl you may lose the carrier frequency.

OK, Verizon version.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784860
You can root now and cancel the update, or let the update happen and follow the instructions in the NE9 update guide. The only thing that's missing in the guide is a link to Odin itself, so here it is for you. Odin is a utility for flashing Samsung firmware. Just make sure you follow the instructions given exactly.

You don't have to have service to root and device. However you to need service to use the data for the wifi tethering. I'm on the OTA OC5 and rooted with wifi tethering >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/not.../app-one-click-hotspot-enabler-menus-t2816159 <<< This is a link that will turn on the tethering function.

You would have to root your device and then install the app in the first post of the link that has been posted. Please read the first page in it's entirety.

You would use Odin to flash and custom recovery(TWRP or Phils') if you have not already done so. Then you would use the custom recovery to flash a SU(Super user/Root) zip file and you would have a rooted device.
You don't need to use the 3.18 version of the app but you misread, "AT&T and T-Mobile Hotspot testing live(use v3.1.8 and report any issues please)", the dev just wants feedback from users on those carriers.
How to Root >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2474222
TWRP >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471564
Also read and read some more, nothing is worse when you don't know what you're doing but this is also a helpful community.

No, I don't think you understand. You use Odin to flash a custom recovery to a Samsung device or a stock image, bootloader, etc. Then you use the custom recovery to flash a ROM that is rooted or flash a SU zip that has the binaries and or some other goodies for root. However, this does require you to read, a lot, since there are several different version and updates for this phone. The link that has been provided is a download for an app that you would install after you have root, but before you tried to do any of this you should have read and read some more until you understood what you were doing. From the post that you have been placing in this thread you have not read any of the links I have and others have provided and don't know what steps you were trying to do, so I not sure if I can help.
The best thing to do is to use odin and flash a stock tar, but you have to read, read, read. You need to know what firmware version you had before doing this, if not you can mess the phone up bad.
I use "WiFi Tether Router". It's in the app store and it works great for me.
Samsung has Released Android 5.1.1 Lollipop For the Galaxy Noted Edge "Sprint variant"
THIS WILL ONLY WORK WITH "NOTE EDGE FOR SPRINT"
How To Install:
1. Download the stock 5.1.1 firmware from here: https://mega.nz/#!StEHUJpS!5D20VK0KeW3fk383Q1LJoQ5zyqES6ta1xiwH3jaRBmU
2. And Okay... hmmm I'm pretty sure all of you know how to flash a stock rom using odin
Why not screenshots??
Because I don't own a Note Edge Unfortunately
There isn't much of a visual change from 5.0 really... Except for the contacts app.

But it will fix a lot of bad flashes
Amen brother like my bad flash lol
Same rooting method once installed?
No
Would i have any problems if i odin this on a rooted Edge? I dont care abot root anymore since no one is supporting the sprint edge anyways.
Just odin over 5.0 or do i have to odin factory k.k than odin lollipop and than this ? TIA.
Odin over then wipe in Stock recovery
killer! I luvs it - finally getting that annoying default text tone - never sounded so good!
So has anyone found a way to root this file yet?
can wait for a rooted one, we really dont have many devs though, sucks cause this phone rocks
So whats different between 5.0.1 and this, is it worth me losing root and hoping to get it back in the future
Any word on whether this can be rooted?
CF Auto Root worked for 5.0.1. I wonder if it will work for 5.1.1. I'm tempted to try it....

Well, I don't need to try it, I found that it cannot be done because Samsung added root protection to the kernel. This post and related thread is from Note 4, which I'm sure is the same situation for the Edge:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62167223&postcount=15
5.1.1 kills cf-auto root... It did the same with the note edge.. Kernel exploit is the only way to root..

Now, @freeza has released a kernel for the Sprint Note 4 910P to allow root. If enough of us Edge owners can contact, beg, and donate [hint] to him, I'll be he would be willing to provide us with a modified kernel to allow us root.......

Request was sent to him. Heres hoping...

Did the same. I'd like to see the improvements that 5.1.1 has to offer, but I really don't want to lose root.
Snovvman
I wanted to ask if you will be able to get this new update working with freezas kernel and even once that is up if the new one covering stagefright will put is right back into this same stuck place?
(Just wondering if i am going to have to give up root on this phone at this point?)

I am confident that we will achieve root. That is not the issue for me. I am waiting around for Xposed to support TW 5.1.1. Until then, I will use other methods to mitigate Stagefright. With ongoing security patches, I'd imagine that there will be plenty of people who can take the upldate.zip and repackage it to be flahable via custom recovery.
