Does anyone find the vibrating alert too weak? - Honor 5X Questions & Answers

Switching from a Moto E, I was disappointed that the Honor 5x had a weaker vibrator.
On my Motorola phones I always feel it in my pocket when I get a call, but on the 5X I frequently miss them.
Does anyone else have this issue?

Yes... Pretty annoying... I've actually found where to change the max vibration value in the system folders, but probably this wouldn't be a permanent change, and also I don't know if this practice is dangerous for the hardware, since means pushing up the factory values...
I would change the value to do the change permanent, but I don't know how to do it in the init.d file. I'm running CM13 developed by @crpalmer. Anyone could give me indications about how to do it, and maybe the max safety value for vibration?
Thank you in advance.

Kinda weak, but it's okay to me.

Compared to Moto E , 5x vibration is less. But im not missing any calls in pocket. I was able to feel it good. But not great..

[Q] Questions from a potential buyer..tablet use/GPE/bugs

Hi everyone, I'm considering picking up this bad boy - however I have a few questions that I couldn't find answers to when casually perusing this forum.
1. I intend to use this as a tablet/secondary device - does this phone give annoying nag notifications or even remove key features like the addressbook if you use it w/o a sim? My old Xperia SL did this and I want to make sure this won't hinder usage as a tablet.
2. Are either the Sony or GPE editions of the Z Ultra completely bug free? My old Xperia SL developed quite a few bugs after a few updates which was annoying.
Just FYI, I'm considering either the Z Ultra or an 8in Windows 8 tablet like the Asus Note 8. I currently have an iPad Mini, but the wife has been using my iPad more and more instead of her (bulkier) Acer A500. I figure the Asus Note 8 or the Xperia Z Ultra are good devices that are different enough from the iPad to still be fun. Anyone that owns a small Windows 8 tablet and the Xperia Z Ultra please do list some pros/cons of either device.
1. I have no idea since I, and pretty much all the other ones around here use it as a phone, but I can't see why you can't just kick it permanently into Airplane Mode? That should shut it up (in theory)?
2.Pretty much yes. The few bugs that it does have aren't any serious ones. If you can choose which version to get, then get the Xperia version and not the GPe one. You'll have far more choices regarding ROM flashing and stuff like that down the road. You can flash the GPe build on the Xperia model, but you can't flash the Xperia ROM on the GPe model (yet), so keep that in mind. You're at XDA after all, so i'm guessing that you do want to fiddle with it down the road.
1. In the old firmware it did bug you and shutdown, I didn't look too hard at an solution, just flashed a custom ROM.

Exactly.
There are issues with this phone
No flash so camera sucks.
screen does not turn off reliably during phone call. It is still a phone, a big one though and after a while of direct calls, you feel the heat.
Phone call volumes are bad.very bad.
screen is very reflective. badly need an antiglare.
I rarely use the write on screen feature, so it gives me lots of unwanted touches.
sim tray is extremely flimsy; silly design. Easy to break, loose.
and then some more.
I sometimes use it without sim and it doesnt cause issues. Just reboots when you remove/add a sim.
All said, this is still a very good phone. considering that i have used a Nexus 4 for quite a while, its better in features.
and great for reading/browsing if you can bear the glare.

Thanks it sounds a lot like most of the bugs/issues are related to its phone features. As for the camera, no tablet has a flash as far as I know. All in all, it looks like this would make a great mini tablet and spare phone if I ever need one.

Im considering buying Moto E 2nd Gen LTE. Is it worth it?

Hi. I currently own Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 for more than a year and I thought its good time to change phone. As you can see, Im a person who buys budget phones. I was searching for my next budget phone and Motorola Moto E LTE got my attention. I couldnt find a better deal than this, so I thought before making a final decision I will ask some opinions from people who got this phone. So, what do you think of Moto E and can you recommend it? What are biggest disadvantages and hows the performance? I already know that lack of flashlight is big hit for me.
Well it's a hard question. On stock 5.0.2 (there is still no update in eu) performance is preatty bad. Sometimes it runs smooth but there are cases when it lags horrible. I don't know who even installed chrome on this phone: it is cleary unusable however I instaled lighting browser and it works fine.
I've bought this phone because I tought that it will be my first smartphone which will be runing fine out of the box without modifications and I'm disapionted now :/ There is update in US and it probably fixes some of performance issues but when it will be available in eu? We still don't know.
Of course there is some good things like:
- of course price
- build quality
- very fast gps
- decent screen for it's price
- great battery life (up to 7h of screen on time)
- almost clean android
- decent speaker
- sd card slot and enabled android's app to sd
- up to date cpu (bigger chance that it will get android m)
- lte
- big data partion (we get 5gb out of 8gb so I think that's good)
- good light sensor
- and I very like it's look (but it's my own preference)
and what is bad now:
- performance on 5.0.2
- there is no e-compas! (my xperia x8 had compas in 2010)
- no notification led (this is very annoying since moto display is too sensitive and ambient display works randomly)
- fornt camera (back one is decent but sometimes it can't focus well)
- lack of camera flash
- updates aren't so fast (at least in eu)
- miracast isn't working (because of only 2,4 ghz wifi)
- moto features aren't working well on 5.0.2, for exaple twist to turn on camera isn't working properly (after twist I feel the vibration but screen isn't turning on)
So would I buy it again?? I don't know, it's performance is really discapointing right now. I compared it to moto g on 4.4.4 (which should be slower because of 720p screen and slower cpu) and it was like day and night. G was way faster.
Thats a bummer. I thought it was very good for basic usage like messages and browser. I heard Android 5.0 had memory leaks, but from what youre saying performance is really bad here. Is it fixed in 5.1?
well for basic usage it can make a job, I discabled all moto services that you can discable in settings, installed nova launcher, lighting browser and it's somehow working. When it starts lags I clean my recent apps and it helps.
The phone is preatty good but it was relased in bad time, in days of probably the worst android relase, lollipop looks cool but it can't be as fast as kitkat :/
howerer when I compared it to my other firend's moto g on stock 5.0.2 they were running simmilar and he told me that he hasn't got issues with it (but he often clear recent apps so maybe thats the reason)
I belive that 5.1.1 will fix all the issues, we have to wait.
I would appreciate other people opinions.
just too good a phone at this price

when i purchased it i dint have much expectations considering its cheap.but then as i am using it for over 2 months now ,i dont feel it as a cheap phone.it never hanged on me..not even once.though i have disabled quite a lot of stuff but thats fine...this is first phone i am running without rooting in last 5 years.and surprisingly i am not feeling need to .My battery lasts beyond 3 days and it runs fast enuf in comparison to my past phones which i had to root to make them usable(samsung s3 , s advance etc)
i wud say go fr it..5.1 update is sure to improve it further
When I first bought my moto e (xt1526) a few months back, at first it sucked. I wanted my ZTE max back. Everything was laggy. Even after the 5.1 update. So, I rooted and tinkered with roms that our great XDA developers have been working very hard on, until I found one that was somewhat solid. It ended up being a soak test 5.1 rom. It made the phone snappy and overall great. The only issue is my mic drops out on my bluetooth sometimes. Overall it is a great phone to me for its price.

Well, I think it cant be worse than my current Galaxy Ace 2.

review required : current status of the phone

I am on the lookout for best VFM phone(with 820 chipset, decent camera), currently. I am a power user, hence, flashing/rooting is good with me.
My budget is INR 20K. How would you rate LEMax2 ?
With CM13 ROM, are all issues hw/sw resolved ?
please let me know since I am buying for wifey. And she is not techie.
Thanks for your time.
I am using Cm13 (Mokee) + pixel Launcher, about 2 days and everything is working fine.
on cm13 camera is pretty bad, everything else worked for me (except IR, but i'm not using it)
Buying for wife and she isn't a techie? Then just stick with the latest stock Indian firmware and put Google Now, Pixel or ZenUI launcher on there. Everything works fine, it's fast, stable and has Google services properly preinstalled. The way eui has the notifications is clean and easy to use, and having the quick toggles in the multitasking shade is fine once you get used where they are. Battery life is good. She won't really gain anything from CM.
If you're going to review it, then I strongly advice to mention about the fingerprint issue, it is really hit or miss. Mine worked for 14 days and now is kinda dead, I even flashed 3-4 Roms, but still I can't get it to work.
EDIT: From what I read in LeEco forums, fingerprints issues seems due to faulty hardware, but I guess no one really knows if it is HW or SW related. I tried MoKee, CM 13 and EUI (Cuoco92), and none of them worked so far.
Camera is little above average, you can take pretty good shots with enough lighting, otherwise it's not that great in darkest places.
I really enjoy the screen, IPS panel and QuadHD resolution make everything sharper, with well balanced colors and more over has good visibility outdoors with sunlight.
I don't like AMOLED screens, they have way too saturated colors for my tastes, but that is up to your personal preferences.
I would recommend it, given a few flaws like no expandable memory, no jack audio, software support uncertain, fingerprint not that great.
But after all, where else you can find a device with 4GB RAM, Snap820 and QuadHD 5,7" screen for less than 200 €?
Hi, thanks for the feedback. Is fingerprint issue h/w or s/w issue ?
I thought it might be s/w bug, which would be resolved thru update to stock/ CM rom.
Also, how is the camera, screen. Do you recommend it as the best VFM phone ?
Thanks,
Thanks, I like to keep phones updated to latest android version. I saw some activity related to CM13/CM14. Is it a dead/slow end ?
I would like to buy the phone only if there is sufficient support for the device. And if there are not h/w issues. fingerprint works well ?
Thanks @Star_dust6, thanks for the update. I should be good to order it then
Honestly on the ROM it shipped with I did have some hit or miss issues with the fingerprint sensor. Since flashing the official indian ROM I've had zero issues. Only when my hands are dirty, but that is to be expected.

Any annoying software bugs? (Particularly UK users)

Hi guys and girls,
I'm looking at getting a new phone soon and my choices I've narrowed it down to, for different reasons, are these:
Google Pixel 2 XL - good battery life, great camera, pure android
OnePlus 5T - good battery life, good development scene
Huawei Mate 10 Pro - can get a good deal on it, great battery, great camera
Cons of the Mate 10 Pro all revolve around EMUI. Bugs/features I've heard about so far are these:
Non-push notifications not working
No notification drawer on lock screen
Quick reply actions etc not always working
These all seem really annoying and are things I wouldn't have a problem with on the Pixel 2. I could root, and install AOSP, but that would just have different bugs, and I'd lose the AI which is obviously a big feature of this phone, plus the camera quality would be lost.
So I'm looking for any users who have either had these issues fixed, or know workarounds, or have any other little bugs that I should know about.
Thanks

Thanks. Not a big widget user, but annoying to know things like that are broken. Do you think that once the phone is released in the states, support will be better? Pretty big market

Its difficult to say, it seems like a simple fix for Huawei, so don't know why it's taken so long to sort out.

And that's the sort of thing I'm concerned about. They are a massive manufacturer and therefore you'd think that issues like this should be sorted at release. I understand that Oreo is still new and all manufacturers will have issues, but this would be my first Huawei phone and I'd like it to be in good shape! And a good experience.
Audio switches from bluetooth to loudspeaker after some time.
Call quality is very bad due to the AI chip.
Since these issues are there since release, I wouldn't recommend that you buy the Mate 10 Pro.
12 pages of bluetooth issues on German forums: https://www.android-hilfe.de/forum/...0-pro-android-8-bluetooth-problem.853624.html
The two issues stopping me from buying this now are what I've heard that third party apps don't show notifications on the lockscreen always on display and the LED works spordically.
Pretty important that I know I have notification considering this is a communications device I would say.
Also there are reports about poor wifi and cell signal.

Is it still worth it?

So, being the phone nerd that I am, I have no idea how I never knew about this phone till now. So! Id like to ask all of you, who have the phone, is it still worth it? Are you happy with your purchase? Did you switch to the ROG Phone 3 or the Note 20 Ultra? Hows the OS? I like to customize my phone alot so, remove any and all bloatware, root the phone and perhaps install a custom rom, etc. Is any of that possible on this phone? Ill be honest! I really just want this phone for its 7.1 inch screen. I previously had the Huawei Mate 20 X so, this looks like a very welcome upgrade. So what are your thoughts on this phone, please share?
I have BS3Pro china device. flash to global rom and this is my opinions.
What I like about this phone :
- Huge display for read cartoon/ watch some video
- beautiful 90hz screen that make my cartoon reading feel great when scroll down to next page
- Great gaming experience here
- Battery is great (if not do a "lot" of gaming) (pubg 90fps can do around 4hr before phone died)
- Fast battery charging from 0% to 100% with around 1hr
What I'm not impressive about this phone:
- Camera focusing(not autofocus) is not done they work. miss focus 80% of time
- Speaker is not loud enough. if you need to race a sound with noisy place, You will hear little sound of your phone.
- Speaker quality is decent. Not great but not worse either
- fingerprint scanner will not work if your screen have a little dirty or oily
The worst part of this phone:
- Software update(Global rom) is very slow. This phone still have miui11 and the last update is probably 2 month ago(if i'm not wrong)
- Lack of community.
- No hope for custom rom.
Summary. this is a good phone that used by few people(I assum). That's make the manufacturer lower the priority in term of software update. and blackshark company didn't have space for custom rom for their phone.
You can still unlock bootloader and install custom recovery for rooting your phone. But no custom rom were made for this phone here.
If you don't mind about custom rom, frequent software update, lack of community to discuss. this is a good phone if your prefer big one.
Phone would be worth it $400 now. ZERO updates coming, xiaomi has abandoned the BS3pro, especially the global model
I love it. If you're rooted you can customise it using swift installer, and a few other apps that work like the audio headquarters, viper, and superstatus bar, CustoMiuizer, etc. I use the Samsung notifications shade etc.
Though I wish there were ways to update the phone since I can't get update to install since I'm rooted.
Other than that. I love it. Just wish it had 120hz
tried any GSIs?
like Mitku01 said, the phone is great. You don't find a better phone with a big screen.
Global support is bad. My Black Shark 3 Pro is still on security patch 2020-06-05.
