How to tell which version of Redmi Note 3? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

How do you tell which version of Redmi Note 3 is Mediatek, and which is Snapdragon?
Is there any exterior physical difference?
What are the different model numbers in hardware info, if any?
Thanks

Check the CPU details in settings. Note 3 Pro has 6-cores SnapDragon, while Note 3 has 8-core MT (look at the attached screenshot).

another way is to look on the bottom of the official box on the 3rd sentence on the back it should list 4g/3g/2g 4g/3g/2g 4g/3g/2g ( I think the MTK version only has it twice.), and under that line you should see something that says <chinese> 650, 1.8ghz < this would be the snapdragon version.

A Redmi note 4 HelioX20 MIUI 8 Andriod 6 or a Redmi Note 3 Pro 3GB RAM W/ Snapdragon?

Should I purchase a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 with Helio X20 MIUI 8 with Android 6 or a Redmi Note 3 pro with Snapdragon? Even if Xiaomi releases a Note 4 with Snapdragon is there much of a difference in the 4 to wait, by chance? Seeking opinions, if I am in the wrong forum please guide me, thanks.
Always choose for Snapdragon. By my own experience.
Only take a look to the Snapdragon v/s Mediatek version dev sub-forum....
the x20 is faster, but not by much. the sd650 is proven very battery efficient
i would go for the sd too
Redmi Note 3 Pro by a long way. Unless you are happy using MIUI then RN4 may be ok. I cannot stand MIUI. Personally if you could wait then wait for the Redmi 4. Its supposed to be 5" 1080p Snapdragon 625. I am waiting for it as the RN3 Pro is too big for my hands.

The Note 4 is said to be SD 652, though I heard people still prefer the 625 for the battery.
snapdragon. period.

Yup looks like it. Time to play the waiting game for hopefully an early Christmas present :good:
Xiaomi should compete against the Samsung A9 Pro for the next Redmi Note. That has a 6" screen, dual SIM and separate MicroSD slots (no hybrid slot nonsense), 4 GB RAM and 32 GB storage.
A larger Redmi Note would be welcome, for me anyway, because a Mi Max is simply too big. I wouldn't get a Mediatek-based phone ever again after being stuck with KitKat on a Note 3G. Qualcomm are a lot more respectful of GPL issues. Anyway, I think the Helio X20 has too many small cores - these work well in benchmarks but they do nothing for real world usage.

If only Mediatek went open-source, there's a guide for the Interactive governor that will fully utilise all those cores. It'll be interesting to see how they can be tweaked to increase an already large battery life.

then u should go for Redmi series, Redmi Note series must be 5.5" screen or above...every "Note" phone shouldn't have smaller screen than 5.5"
Base on my experience in the past, I recommend you choose Qualcomm snapdragon.

This is a developer forum, not a marketplace. You can poach customers somewhere else.
Helio X20 have a little better performance in CPU and Adreno 510 burns Mali-T880 MP4 in Helio X20 and even X25.
Helio X20 CPU is 4+4+2. More like Snapdragon 615 with 2 high performance core from 650. But since XDA having far better support for Snapdragon.
If you want a better performance, go for Note 3 Snapdragon.
I'm predicting Note 4 Snapdragon will use Snapdragon 652/653 with 2/3GB Variant and a special edition with 4GB RAM will wreck any mid-range smartphone.

Xiaomi Note 4 (Snapdragon) vs Note 4x vs 3 Pro (Snapdragon)

Hello everyone,
I know this is the Q&A for N4P but I still wanna ask because I cant find that much comparasion between these three on english/german.
So, my questions are:
1. Speed? Not gaming, just Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube and such apps.
2. Camera? Normal and low light. I know the N3P has 16 megapixel but I am asking anyways. I just heard that both cameras are ultra bad in low light.
3. Battery? Is there a noticable difference?
Thanks!
Hey, i want to swap my RN3P with the RN4P Global... as i hate MIUI i flashed RR the next day i got the phone. i dont use the RN4P as my daily driver right now but here are my short conclusions from the last 3-4 days.
1. for me both phones act the same in speed while opening stock apps, whatsapp, gallery etc. what i noticed is that while swiping homescreen fast the screen seems to blur a bit. i dont know if thats something from the screen or if its something of the software, because kernel sources havent been released yet for the RN4P. as the development is more mature on the RN3P i cant tell if its a bug or something right now. didnt use MIUI a lot.
2. for me both are good in good light conditions, in low light i think both are same ... same ****ty what i noticed is that with the RN3P i could get a little bit closer to objects and take macro shots ... with the RN4P i have to move bit back.
3. cant compare that right now. as the SN625 is way more efficient then the SD650 the RN4P should be better in battery. if we will notice that on a daily basis ... i cant tell
haha, so i will answer your questions:
1. Speed? Both CPU's are in "daily usage" indistinguishable. 650 is faster in games but need more power then the 625. 625 is a downgrade!
2. Camera is okay for a phone that costs about 200€. Low-Light is bad with massive Picture noise, in daylight RN4 has more colors and contrast.
3. I get about 10 hours with my RN3 and about 11 with my RN4. 2 Days use, only WLAN.
Thanks to both of you!
But yeah, at the end of the day, both phones are almost similiar or? From what I've understood, Snapdragon 650 is better for gaming, Snapdragon 625 for daily usage (Facebook,Whatsapp etc) or?
I mean, the Note 4 / Note 4x is lil bit faster in general (except for gaming)?
yeah they are pretty similiar but i love the look of the RN4P. the case design is way better then on the RN3P. the 2.5glas let it look way more expensive then it is. loudspeaker on the buttom is better then on the back.
And the RN4P is the Redmi Note 4x or what? I cant find any Redmi note 4 pro or something like that. Can you link it to me?
Sorry for off topic but i find this thread is worth to ask for this:
Which device is kenzo? The redmi note 3 or the redmni note 3 pro?

Redmi Note 4 "Pro" is probably the Snapdragon one. The "Pro" part isn't official. That started when people online started calling the Redmi Note 3 SD as RN3Pro.
Redmi Note 4X is just the Snapdragon version(Indian) sold in China. As they already have Note 4(Mediatek) there. The only difference are Note 4X has a lot more colors available and it has Bluetooth 4.2 instead of 4.1 on Indian Note 4. ROMs for RN4SD works on 4X as some have stated(can't confirm, I don't own the phone)

Thanks! That means speed wise and battery wise are both Note 4 and Note 4x same devices? The 4x has more colors and looks "more beautiful"?
But still, would you suggest me Note 3 Pro or the Note 4 / Note 4x? As I have said, gaming is not my thing. I just wanna apps open fast and the battery life.
Also, do you know if there is a Note 4x version with lte Band 20? I think there is Note 4 with lte Band 20. but since 4x has more colors, I would rather take that one.
thanks

No, 4 and 4X are not the same device, completely different body design, you should take 4X if you can, it also has better display, and with SD625 you get more screen-on time...

The Note 4 that was sold in India also has SD 625. It also looks the same aside from wider range of colors for the 4X, 5(?) Instead of 3. I'm pretty sure you're talking about the Mediatek version. If you really read my post, you'll see that I'm talking about the Indian variant.

For now none. And who knows if it will have one. Note 3 Kate(Special Edition) has it.
Here: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=8580&idPhone2=8531
As you can see Note 4 SD have the same dimensions and weight as the Note 4X.
I don't know if you can import The Indian variant but if you don't live in India you'd probably be better off with 4X as the LTE on the Indian one is limited.
Also the 4/64 variant of the note 4X uses a mediatek chipset. If you want the more efficient, battery friendly SD 625 then stick with the 3/32 variant. If you can't live without the Band 20 then your only choice would be Note 3 Pro Kate. Or maybe another brand though I don't know anything about those..

Yes, but Note 4 Global looks just like 4X design wise.. So Xiaomi made a mistake, they have device with the same name in 2 different designs.

Hi people, above the link. I ordered this one. It should be the Note 4 or the Note 4x (I dont understand it yet) with LTE Band 20 or?
I just dont understand where is the difference between International version and Global version.
I guess theres nothing "big" between those two.

That means I ordered the right one.. happy because of that really because I was unsure about the names.
Just one question. I'm an aosp/cm user for few years already. Is there any rom available for this phone that should be used over standard miui? reasons maybe battery life, camera, speed?

I didn't even know there was a global version of the Note 4. All I know is the Indian Note 4 is basically the Note 4X. The Chinese Note 4 looks more premium(has a metal unibody) than both the Indian and Note 4X but uses Mediatek chipset(not so good at battery department, even note 3 pro beats it). So the Global Note 4 looks the same as the Note 4X only with Mediatek chipset? The Global Note 4 also has SD 625 and the same spec sheet aside from LTE bands and Bluetooth 4.2.
You can flash a ROM for the Indian Note 4 to Note 4X which confirms that they are indeed the same.

Sorry didn't know there was a Global Note 4 with band 20. Good thing you bought the correct one.
Wait for the source code to be released(someone said it's near, don't know if it was already as of this writing) for better stability. Right now you'd probably be better off with MIUI. If you can't stand MIUI I'd recommend AOSP Extended ROM.

Help choosing Redmi Note 4 or 4x from Aliexpress

Hey,
I'm about to order Redmi Note 4 or 4x, but I'm not sure which one. I live in Croatia and I don't know any better site. Maybe GearBest or GeekBuying but I don't know, recommendations welcomed
Here are 2 devices I was looking

I'm looking to buy black one, and I was trying to find 4gb/64gb model (SD625), but black color is not available.
Which one should I get?
Sorry if this is duplicated thread,

The 4x has fast charging and comes with a snapdragon 625 processor. The note 4 has no fast charging and comes in 2 different processor options. The faster mediateck processor and snapdragon 625. The 4x is cheaper because it comes with a slower processor. Antutu benchmark has 60,000 for the snapdragon and 80,000 with the mediateck processor. Also there are different global versions with different bands that will work for your country. Go to willmyphonework.net to check compatibility. There are other sites you can try to buy from geekbuying.com and AliExpress.com. Also you can see the different variants on kimovil.com. this site will also tell you prices benchmark scores and a lot more.
Nonsens 4x and 4 are the same.
4X may got diffrent camera sensor.
And its not support fast charging.
And is a Snap Dragon 625.
Get original Redmi Note 4 only.
I also think I have read that they are the same, and only difference is that LTE band or something?
I'm only looking for SD processor because it has more custom roms if I'm not wrong. And I've read that some people have problem with flashing roms on 4x or something
And yeah, I think its Snapdragon 625, not 652
There are 3 different versions of the Redmi Note 4:
1) Redmi Note 4 with Deca-Core Helio X20
2) Redmi Note 4 with Snapdragon 625
3) Redmi Note 4X with Snapdragon 625
Option (2) is imho the "best" of them all as it has not only the better battery compared to its brother (option (1)) but also has more bands (at least LTE Band 20, I think also Band 8 and Band 4 is a difference; you miss out on Bands 39 and 41) than it's cousin (option (3)).
I purchased myself option (2) and am hoping it will arrive soon. Of interesting observation is that (1) and (2) share the same root of name (being "Redmi Note 4") but option (2) is sometimes called "Redmi Note 4 Global Edition" or "Redmi Note 4 International Edition). But some sellers use that name as well for option (3) so please be extra mindful when selecting the option. What is more curious is that (2) and (3) seem to share the EXACT same dimensions and hole-setup, so when looking for a case you may be better off searching for Redmi Note 4X compatible ones as the IR-blaster share the same location amongst both.
As it seems the 64GB version seems to only be available in White+Gold as of now but I decided to not care and if I should care too much exchange the back of the phone for a silver coloured one. Obviously that voids the warranty, but I think international warranty repairs will become more expensive than a new phone will cost. I believe the back from option (3) should fit but I give no guarantee on that as I have had neither phone in my hand nor disassembled either and tested it out.
Further, no devices seem to support quick charging and I would not worry too much about it. The battery is quite large and using the SD version one should have quite a power efficient SoC.
The camera sensor seems to be largely based on Samsung's ISOCell technology these days, so no love from Sony IMX. I hope that noone gets the OmniVision version in here---they are said to be the worst.

Cheers,
the 3 sensors are not only restricted to the Redmi Note 4 Global Edition but also the 4X apparently. Best of luck on the sensor for you in any case.
Regarding LTE: Check with your local provider and the general setup of countries you plan to visit for best coverage information. This may change in the future but unlikely for larger changes as 4G is the de-facto standard right now and mature enough to have settled mostly.
There are several Redmi Note 4:
1. RN 4 (mediatek)
2.RN 4 (normal, sd 625) (ex. Indian Version)
3.RN 4 GLOBAL (sd 625, has LTE Band 20 - sometimes very useful depending on wich country) - Croatia you need this for some operators
Please do check this article on wikipedia : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks_in_Europe , apparently in Croatia you need LTE B3 and B20 - hence get the RN 4 GLOBAL
4. RN 4X (sd 625, identical to normal version but with more Lte band only for China, also has BlueTooth 4.2 wheres all the other versions have 4.1)
As of camera sensor, it is like a lottery, you either get the Sony IMX258 or the Samsung S5K3L8. Please note that another NEW version of the phone is recently introduced to the market - RN 4X 3/16GB (please note the 3gb of Ram and 16 (sixteen) GB Rom) - DON'T get this one - it has a new Camera Sensor - Omnivision (chinese!). Imho both Sony and Samsung sensors are somewhat on par, but have been reports where the Omnivision senor has had problems.
If you need more info quote or PM me.
EDIT;
from the link you provided i suggest the second one because it clearly indicates the presence of B20 in the description: https://it.aliexpress.com/item/Glob...Snapdragon-Octa-Core-5-5-FHD/32796560515.html
The back of 4x is not full metal, but 4 is.

Are you sure? I think they both have top and bottom plastic for antena, don't they?

Mido 3GB/32GB or 4GB/64GB Version

Guys, I've a few questions for those who know both.
1) Do they have physical differences?
2) Do custom roms meant for the 3/32 version also work on the 4/64 version?

1. Dunno exactly.
2. Yeah, Storage / RAM doesn't really matters, snapdragon Roms works on all variants of Redmi Note 4/X (Snapdragon only)

As far as I understand it, there are two models. One with Snapdragon (Codename: mido) and one with Mediatek (Codename: nikel). And they have slightly physical difference (I think one is 1mm longer or something and sensors have different places). Storage and RAM should not matter, only look what processor you have.

It's the same phone. It simply has different names in different countries. Just make sure it's the Snapdragon version.
Depending on where you live, you may want to buy the Global version of the phone which supports more LTE bands (like band 20 in Europe).
But to be honest with you, I wouldn't buy the Note 4X anymore.
The Note 5/Note 5 Pro is already out.
The MI A1 ist basically a Note 4X with pure Android instead of MIUI and dual camera.
The Redmi 5/Redmi 5 Plus is basically a Note 4X with a 18:9 display instead of 16:9.
The new Mi 6X came out recently with a better CPU, dual cameras and MIUI.
The MI A2 (the same phone as Mi 6X but with pure Android instead of MIUI) will be announced soon.
So all roms and kernels of snapdragon will be compatible to both 4 and 4x as long its snapdragon? Thank you for the suggestions. I'll look for redmi note 5 pro

Correct.
So, is it good to buy 4x cause it's more updated than 4?

You need to buy the phone with Snapdragon 625. Depending where you life, it's called either Redmi Note 4X or Redmi Note 4 Global Edition.
Just make sure that you buy the phone with Snapdragon and not MTK (MediaTek) processor

That is good to know, However there is one thing I would like too add:
Xiaomi is very bad in the development scene, they do not provide kernel source and devices trees for developers to build custom roms or kernels, and currently the Redmi Note 4 has both, while new devices probably don't.
If you care about custom roms/kernels ( and everyone here at XDA probably do) check the device respective development threads before purchasing the device to see if there is any activity.
Since basically in my opinion MIUI is a version mess.
Check for the processor. Don't buy the Note with mediatek chipset.
