It is not so much the rom/kernal as it is the apps you use. If I uninstall all of my games and most 3rd party apps, then my battery lasts for a long time otherwise it can drain in a few hours or so.

[Q] Would you recommend Infusion ROM?

Hi guys, Just got my sgs2 and was looking for a good, stable, rom being close to asop and having little or no samsung bloats helps. Infusion showed up in my search and it seems to have just what I need. I just want to know what people's general experience has been like (trying to look before I leap ). I used darky on the sgs1 which worked quite well for me. I would really appreciate it if you guys can share your experience with infusion rom. and if there are any other rom you can recommend.
Also I currently have my sgs2 rooted with a custom kernel on stuck rom, which for the most part works very and is damn fast and snappy. Do you think having a custom rom would make much difference? Thanks in advance
Yes, it is without a doubt my favourite rom. Very stable, improved my battery life and has everything a custom rom should (deodex, CWM, root etc).
At the end of the day though, try it and see. If you don't like it you can always download your stock rom and flash it back, or even try another custom rom like VillainROM or LightningROM

Do you need to Root to install Lightning ROM?

Guys, I know this has probably been asked 5 trillion times on here, but I am new and would like some information.
I had an iPhone until a couple months ago, but then I decided to get an Atrix. I sold that, and how I have a Galaxy S II. It has the stock rom, and it is the European i9100 version. The phone is NOT rooted.
Do I need to root the phone before installing Lightning ROM? Also should I back up my music and stuff? Will my stuff get deleted after installing the custom ROM?
Thanks a lot for the help. I know most people will tell me that this has already been answered, but I really wouldn't mind some extra help so I don't brick my new phone.
Edit: Oh right, I forgot to add, will Lightning ROM increase my battery life? The stock ROM drains battery so fast...
As far as i know, you do not need to root to flash this rom. Flashing this rom though will root your gs2. Im on lite'ning 6.1 and its giving me great battery life.
Theres a link to FAQ in the lite'ning rom thread.
Edit: i would do a back up just incase, but NO it does not wipe anything on your phone.

To install any ROM root isn't needed. But some ROM will give you root access.

Try Batista70 2.4 + speedmod kernel K2-16...
Allow me to quote myself:

It gets asked all the time, and as one might expect, you'll just get replies from people saying "I use x ROM with y kernel and I recommend it because z".
There is no suitable answer to your question, instead I would recommend you take a deep breath and have a read through what's already been written and decide for yourself what to pick.

I'm running checkrom revolution atm. I've tried many roms and personally find this the best by far. There's online kitchen app with it a but like rom manager so you can change anything like themes, apps, widgets and even modems! Check it out

thats correct i think that i need to try and try some ROMs but im little bit confused need some advices i mean: like the top5 or top10 or roms so i can give it a try
thanks for all answers
i saw two CheckROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1251688
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312240
what are the differences between each other?
I have been using VillainROM for ages now, have tried the rest but keep going back to VR. Best battery and closest to stock (I don't normally theme).
However, your question is a bit subjective, everyone looks for different things in a ROM.
Best way is to try a few and see which you prefer.

Try Batista70 2.4 or 2.5. the best of the best!
I suggest you learn how to flash and try out a newer deodexed stock like KJ2, then start flashing customs if you don't like the behaviour of stock roms. Usually stock are very good with the right kernel.

Hardcore's SpeedMod K2-15 is pretty sweet. Give it a search up top ^
In my opinion HyperDroid-Androidmeda is one of the best ROM's
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1288850
For sure it's worth to try. Some people were able to get over 6h display on this ROM
I recommend checkrom revolution v1 with cf root or speedmod and bigbanghds ICS theme. Looks nice, fast, good battery, mostly stable.

so the steps to flash my galaxy s2, are:
1-first root galaxy s2
2-then backup efs
3-then flash it with custom rom?
im right?
thanks
I wanna flash something similar to stock samsung, but better, like no home button lag, the samsung hubs removed, crapware removed, which rom do you like better? villain rom or cognition? both look similar

KitchenRom very close to stock and optimised. Both mentioned as well are very good to.

We do not allow "best rom" threads because there is no answer to the question.
Flaming usually ensues....

So many roms, kernels etc etc

I am relatively new to the whole flashing custom roms scene etc. I have a Xperia Go currently running stock ICS 6.1.1.B.1.54 but I am not happy with the battery life. I have not experience any performance issues running this firmware but the battery drain is starting to get me down. Now, before I flash back to stock GB I would just like to hear other people's experiences with custom roms etc. Can they improve battery life etc because they have a lot of bloatware removed?
Any info greatly appreciated...
Yes custm roms r good than stock..
U should try..
Either its stock based or cm based...
Just see before that is that rom stable or not..

Thanks - could you possibly suggest one for me to try please?
I am back on GB now but can't help thinking my battery life would be better if I could get rid of the all the Sony bloatware. When I open running services it's full of crap!
I recommend you CyanogenMod.
So I can install a custom kernel but I don't necessarily need a custom rom? Sorry for the stupid questions but all I want is better battyer life. I am very happy with the performance of my device
Also, I was wondering if a good alternative for me would just be to root my phone and remove all of the bloatware using titanium backup or similar?

Hi there, a new user here, I have a question regarding kernel. My battery seems to be doing well but recently i've flashed my xperia u with the SXU_TerraRomICS_V1_B54_Final that i got from XDA and my battery indicator is going down pretty fast even in deep sleep. My main consumator is the screen as show in the phone stats. Is this a kernel problem? And if I flash a new kernel will it change my apps, fonts and other?
PS : I like the way my phone is now and I don't want to change anything but to improve my battery life if possible

I am running ML4 on my device (The stock rooted ROM that JustArchi posted in the general forum). ML4 ROM. ML4 kernel. MK6 modem. Rooted, without removing any apps. I am attaching a picture I took just now and I have been using my phone extensively, with a lot of messaging and Flipboard usage. I think that this battery usage is good. I am on my second battery cycle since I flashed the ROM and I did not do a full cycle yet (full discharge and then charging with the phone switched off till 100%).

BT that depends on your screen time... It goes into deep sleep nicely but while using any app or browsing it drains faster than previous firmwares... But different people will always have different opinions... That's the whole point of customization and flexibility that android provides us..
