The Sony Ultra Z isn't on Sony's list of devices to be upgraded to Marshmallow, but how about the Google Play Edition ?
I think you're little late for this question and it won't get it for sure.
I guess I've been enjoying my Ultra Z for so long that nobody bothered to let me know it's obsolete !! (yes, I'm indeed late)

Will Sony Xperia Z get the Google Play Edition treatment?
It is a great device, but it will be greater if will get the pure Android with rapid updates of the latest OS.
The latest rumors was that it will be released after june 2013, after Galaxy S4 and Htc ONE Google Play Edition release, but is september and ... nothing.
Thank you!
I doubt it considering that z1 has just been released.

Maybe! Or because it is the direct concurrent of LG Nexus 4.
I know that the android 4.3 port of Taylor Swift makes Xperia Z a Google Edition phone, but what happens if this dev stop doing the rom?
And the AOSP from Sony is not intended for daily use.
It is indeed a Google Experience using the port of Taylor Swift, AOSP or Cyanogenmod, but you get it much later than Galaxy S4 and HTC One.
So, there's a one reason left that makes me want this phone and that is the dust and water resistant feature.
The stock Htc One can be converted to a Htc One GE with OTA, i think this will be the ONE )) , because I can't buy directly from Google PLAY store and this will do the trick
Thank you for letting me share my thoughts!

No problem. You should get yourself Z1 a.k.a. Honami - it's better than Xperia Z and it's also water and dust resistant without flaps on mini-jack
Will Xperia z ultra get upgraded to lollipop?

the question has been asked many times, the answer is we don't know for sure, but probably as the ZU is only a year old and Sony have given kitkat to many older xperia
Xperia z ultra got 4.4.4 before Xperia z
If the Google play edition gets its then for certain it will be easier to port it to the XZU and we wouldn't need to wait so long. I think Sony made a mention that they will only release the latest Lollipop based Stock rom 90days after it is officially released by Google to the consumers.
Hey!
I just got a Z Ultra and was wondering about the current status/likelihood of compatibility with these two things?
1.) PS4- Word seems to be that in the future (hopefully) the ability to play PS4 games using your phone as a screen will be modded to work on other devices besides just the X3. Assuming this is true, is the Z Ultra more likely to receive this functionality more quickly than a non Sony phone?
2.) For those that use Amex Serve Softcard (formerly ISIS), does it work on the Z Ultra? I see that on the compatibility list other Xperia phones are listed but not this one
Thank you!

Have you ever found an answer to your Softcard question? I am not having any luck getting the T-mobile Softcard to work.
Hello. I have normal Xperia Z Ultra, not GPe. Is there any way to have software from GPe phone on my Z Ultra? I want to have stock clean android from Google Play edition. Question may be stupid, but im green at this
My god...

Looks like owners of the Sony Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact and Z Ultra will be joining the Android Lollipop family shortly. New firmware with build number 14.5.A.0.242 has just been certified for all variants of the above handsets with the strong likelihood of this being Lollipop.
Sony said that other variants of the Xperia Z series would start to see the update in around two weeks. This was last week, so potentially we could see Lollipop rolling for the Xperia Z1 series and Z Ultra by the end of this month. We’ll keep you posted on further developments.*
