Hello!
Is it possible to downgrade the LG G5 (H850 from Orange Romania) from a newer FW to an older one? Currently i'm on V10a and i'm trying to get used to the battery life so i wish to know what my options are in case i decide to update and things don't go well. My previous phone was Samsung S5+ (and before that S3) and switching from different FW's was easy.
I really appreciate any help you can provide.
Yes you can, there is always a possibility that in the future lg will add a anti-rolback function, but it never happened on the International variant

Hi everyone,
I'm having issues with my LG G3 D855! It was originally locked to Optus in Australia, but I have recently wanted to root it. To do this I found I had to downgrade to Android 4.4, which I did successfully using the LG Flash Tool. It worked well, but it messed up at the same time. I actually flashed the European version of 4.4 over instead of an Optus version. As someone with little experience in the field, the European/International version seemed the right one since there was no Australian versions on the site. LG wouldn't replace the firmware unless I coughed up $350, seeing as I voided the warranty. After doing further digging online I found a Telstra version of the LG G3 firmware but the phone repair shop said that flashing a Telstra version over would lock it to telstra and that I would require a Telstra sim to use the phone! At the moment my phone is functioning okay, I'm able to text, call and mobile data and wifi both work. The issue is the missing Australian apps and the many European ones that aren't mine. Also out of curiosity, has the European G3 received 5.0 yet? It didn't show up in the software updater for me. Looking for any advice I can get with this... If you have any further questions about the functionality I will reply as soon as I can.
Thanks!

That's completely NOT how this works. You flash this and you'll likely brick your phone.

So only a T-Mobile ROM is compatible with the H830? International ROM won't work?
I suppose as long as the KDZ is a GSM not CDMA,. I tried it already on HTC M9 jumped from T-Mobile RUU to At&t and then to international RUU with no bricking.

You have to be particularly careful with LG phones (and in general). There may be some other models and manufacturers where this could work.
But I think this is rarely the way to obtain sim unlock.
A lot of the times the phones are not identical between regions and flashing a different firmware will totally destroy the phone.
LG in particular doesn't even like you flashing an older firmware onto the phone and instituted an anti-rollback mechanism on some US model phones, where even flashing the correct model's older version would result in a total brick. Yes, you could actually brick your phone by flashing a kdz file, meant for your phone, on LG flashing software, that was just the version prior.

So, in general. We have to wait to unlock the bootloader, root, TWERP and flash custom ROMS into the LG G5 instead of trying to flash a stock KDZ?
These manufacturers are making it harder and harder, we are somehow loosing the flexibility that made us choose Android over IOS.
Hi all,
I have seen a good offer for a branded G5 from an European carrier and I was wondering if there is any known way yet to de-brand it, in order to free it from the bloatware that I suppose it will be packed with.
If not, do you think normally this would be possible within some months from release, or were there already cases in the pase where this wasn't possible ever?
Thank you very much.
Derp
Accepted... I wrote a bit careless and I can see how the request was kinda funny.
Let me reformulate... In case I find the branding too disturbing and I want to flash a stock unbranded image (which I believe is possible for European H850 even if branded by carrier, right??) then I will miss OTA and maybe won't even be able to sideload OTAs like I used to with Nexus 5?

If you remove the original firmware flashing a different one you will lose OTA, but it seems that on G4 is possibile to receive update through LG Bridge (but i'm not sure), obviously the update you will receive will always been related to your brand.
Sideload as far as i know is not possibile on LG devices, because the Stock Recovery is made for Hard Reset only.
For now it's not possible to flash firmware on the G5, but some users are working both on LGUp and Flashtool 2.0.1.6 Here

OK thanks!
I would not see the point of providing a way to unlock the bootloader from LG itself even, if then you don't give people the possibility to flash something else on it, or maybe I'm missing the point of unlocking bootloader.
(talking about Italian Vodafone or Tim btw)

With the official bootloader unlock you lose the warranty, and there is no way to recover it, by flashing a no-brand firmware on al lg device the warranty remain (exception made for us carriers maybe).
Note that with an unlocked bootloader you can flash many things (roms, kernel, mods, xposed ecc...), with LGUp or Flashtool you can only flash official lg firmware.
So, LG provides an official bootloader unlock so the users can use their smartphone's full potential, but doesn't allow to flash official firmware because there is the smartphone update center for otas, and LG Bridge fo recovering and flash the whole firmware update, and not only the ota.
I'm sorry if my questions are dumb or already posted
Here where I live (Indonesia) we only got LG G5 SE, I don't know what the model number is but Google said it might be H840
My question is, is it possible to unlock the bootloader and root this model number?
And are there any custom vanilla roms for h840?
Because I'm a long time nexus 5 user, and my nexus 5 is getting a lot of trouble now (battery quickly runs out, GPS not working, vibrate module dead). I just can't stand the LG's OS, I'm already used to vanilla android
And if it's not possible to get a custom rom for h840, I might not getting this G5 SE to replace my Nexus 5
I'm waiting for your answers. Thanks in advance
The G5 SE is a different phone, it doesn't have a Snapdragon 820, but a Snapdragon 652 SoC (IIRC).
So the ROMs for the regular G5 won't work, you need different drivers etc.
Currently, only the European G5s can be bootloader-unlocked, I assume that for the G5 SE it's the same. So you won't be able to unlock your bootloader, root your phone etc.
So if nobody unlocked the bootloader of the G5 SE via some hack, you will be completely out of luck.
My advice: Don't simply buy such a phone and assume that somebody will hack the bootloader. Only buy it if you can live with a non-rooted phone with the stock LG firmware.

Please don't post fake scam websites.
A guy i know at work has this model successfully rooted.(i saw with my own eyes). But the problem is he got layed off and i cant contact him.He also said that the tmobile version is identical to canadian version as far as specs and hardware. And it makes sence to me because i own a samsung note 4 canadian version and can flash any T-Mobile rom.Im wondering if he rooted using T-Mobile stuff.Any thoughts on this will be welcome
By the way i am on N 20c version using telus sim and factory unlocked.pretty sure he had exact same
Could be possible but there not risks? But i wanna try this because i want to get root on my LG G5 H831 but i don't know if the risk is big
