Same here...i followed the steps but noticed nothing different when receiving calls from unsaved numbers.
Nope, not working on AT&T for me after it was enabled, either.
Not working here either.
Looks like the underlying framework is missing.
I was thinking, maybe we're missing the actual apk
Sent from my SM-N930P using Tapatalk
The US/Snapdragon variants are actually missing the framework and apk, it works just fine in the international versions. It has been removed and replaced by our/US carrier versions of Caller Id that you have to pay for which is total bs. There is a thread about this in the original Note 7 forum.
Nice find, there is quite a bit of stuff to get into in there, you can change the roaming settings from just voice to voice and data as well as auto call recording

Damn yeah that is dumb. Our version isn't the same or as good. It doesn't screen calls or give us useful info. Can you link to the thread? Hopefully we can get this working without root

This did not work for me. Then today I was poking around in the settings and got it to work. I went into Applications in settings and then in the top right enabled system apps. I scrolled down to smart caller ID and clicked it. I went to permissions and enabled contacts.
Anyway an hour later I got a call from a family member from their home phone. I do not have this persons name saved in my phone. It said their first, last, and middle initial right on the screen. I was like wow it's working. So naturally I went into package disable pro and turned it off LOL. I tested it again with the same caller and this time it didn't show their caller ID, only their phone number. I tried to re enable the feature and have not been able to get it back since. If someone can try these steps and see how it works, maybe we can figure it out.
Kept messing with settings and it started working again. Rebooted and it went away.

Use the same app from the OP and search for "smart". It will populate smart caller ID. Create a shortcut. Click the shortcut and it will give you permissions for smart caller id. Then try it.

Ladies and gentleman, my name is John and I'm looking for someone in the Denver area with a more advanced knowledge of the Verizon GS4, preferably after the MDK build. I don't know if this is an appropriate post or not, and if it gets deleted, so be it. Just looking for someone that I can meet up with that could possibly teach me a few things. I've read and read and watched videos and would like to be able to learn a little bit more. I'm just a much better learn hands on. Shoot me a reply and I'll give you my email or number, if this is acceptable. I suppose this is an odd post... They just don't really have short classes for these sorts of things. I have most of the basics down. The phones rooted, I'm running Safestrap, got everything backed up, I have Rom Toolbox to do some basic ****. But apparently this MK2 build GS4 is sensitive. Right now I'm trying to free up some internal memory so that I can install Hyperdrive. Out of my 16.gigs, I have about 4 free. I want to delete some bloatware, but I'm super nervous about it. They say I need about 6 gigs to create a Rom slot for it, and I would like to have and 2 free, so I need to free up about 4 more. I don't know if this is possible or not. I've moved all of the apps that I can. I don't know.

Try freezing things using Titanium Backup. Then see how your phone runs for a couple days. If it runs like normal, you can probably safely uninstall those apps. Before uninstalling, make sure you make a backup just in case. There are also lists people have made on here of things people safely removed.

does anyone know of a tethering app that works? i tried wifi tether router, but according to the dev (who i had many email discussions with) you have to create an APN that uses IPV4 instead of V6. well, when i create an APN with ipv4 i can't connect to the data network.
any ideas?

a 3rd party tether, btw.

I don't have any need to tether with anything at the moment. I was just trying to answer your original question without violation.
There have been many users that have gotten tether to work with unlimited data (pulling from the data instead of tether) and there are guides all over the place, just do a search.
Once thing I know is adjusting the APNs and using a different client protocol in your browser on your pc is required to achieve what you desire.
Check a couple custom roms on here too.
I believe the alliance rom and project infinity rom have both fixed the apn from the get go.
Hope that helps.
Ps > fox fi worked great on my previous phones when I had Verizon, but now I'm on t mobile and rely on wifi calling because the data network is out of my range where I live, and I have free wifi at both my jobs so, hence the reason I haven't had the need to tether, yet.
Good luck. And when I get back home in about 20 minutes I will search the forums and post a link or two for you if you haven't figured it out yet.

i asked for anyone that knows of a tethering app that works. on an s5 (as the forum indicates). that implies, nay, dictates, that the individual providing their input has first hand knowledge of whether it works on an S5.
if you don't have direct first hand experience with this working, then you're not able to answer my original question without violation.

well, doesn't matter anyway. tried pdanet/foxfi. not only does it fail to start, it tried to use the built in provisioning. failx2.
Yes, and yes.

Proof it works.
Are you rooted?

yup, rooted. tried that one too. i can get it to "turn on", but i get errors saying that the tether couldn't be started. when it starts successfully, there's a data counter at the bottom.
Using fox fi.
Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
the first screenshot showing that last icon on the right indicates it's simply using your phone's built-in tether. this is not what i'd like to occur. when i opened up my own phone's built in hotspot, the network name was changed to "foxfi" which further indicates foxfi isn't really doing anything except starting the built in tether.
looking for something independent of the phone's native "tethering" ability.

wifi tether router is working for me. it took me a lot of research here on xda but i finally got it to work. For the app settings follow the devs instruction but do that create the apn. You just have to change the original apn from ipv6 to ipv4 using a file manager. I used esfile explorer. Do some research here in xda to find the exact steps you need to take to change it.

thanks. im beginning to understand that for whatever reason, my phone cannot establish a data connection when im in ipv4. i think this is the root of all my tethering problems.
With WiFi tether plus you have to tap it on then tap off and tap on again for it to work right. Also, these apps won't work unless you modify your apn like instructed because ipv4 and dun are the only way that works right now till ipv6 is available.

My right to complain and I already have an RMA from Amazon so I have 29 more days to complain until fixes are in place. [emoji33]

Like others told you might have a bad unit, most of us that using a different SIM card not Verizon or Sprint doesn't have your problems.

Any comment on the software update? Didn't make any improvements? I am still waiting for it.

I was unable to add a new location to smart lock, Google play services force close. Anybody try this and report?

Can anyone grab and share the Ota update package? It'll help in understanding the system and starting the development for the phone. I haven't gotten the update myself yet.
I am using TMO as indicated in my latest. True, could be bad unit. Factory resets seem to fix some issues. Still doesn't explain why the software updates are not being pulled after the failed attempt despite the reset. As I said, good hardware but I have a feeling it is software related.

This is a problem with Marshmallow, not the Axon 7. Many, many phones running Marshmallow 6.x have the exact same issue with adding a location.

Does using Nova reduce the S-Pen functionality?

Doesn't seem to. I'm using it now. Also, the edge features still work. That surprised me the most.

Wow, I'll check it out then. Nova is what I miss most about my Nexus 6.

Yeah, this is the first Samsung device I've owned since the S2. I have a preference for stock Android, but there are some good themes available in their store and applying my Nova settings from a saved setting have helped me feel pretty much at home.

I just transferred my Nova backup from my N6, and changed the icons for the Touchwiz dialer and Messages, and I finally feel at home too. Thanks!
I had a Note 2, and on that device using any other launcher crippled the S=Pen. I'm impressed that the S-Pen and the Edge features all work on Nova on this device.

I'm not sure why, but even after applying my icons, the messaging app keeps changing its icon back to stock. I may just download Google Messenger, but I was trying to give the stock apps a chance. The Samsung keyboard with a dark ui theme applied is fantastic. I love Swiftkey, but I think the stock keyboard predictions are better in some cases.

I read somewhere that the Samsung keyboard is powered by Swiftkey. If that's true, you're essentially using Swiftkey when you use the Samsung keyboard. I prefer the Google keyboard or Swype, but Swype uses Dragon instead of Google for voice input, so I mainly use the Google keyboard.
