Adoptable Storage SD card in PC card-reader? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I really apprecaite XDA Dev and it saved me countless of headaches! Thank you all!
I'm not very Android savvy so maybe you can help me with a questions: I was wondering if it's possible to put an SD card that's used/formatted as "adoptable storage" in an Android phone into an SD card reader on a PC/Win10? I read on several occasions that you should not remove the SD card from your phone when it's used as adoptable storage so I thought I might ask first
Obviously, it's not the same like having the SD card as external memory in an Android phone (which makes it easy to just take and plug it into your SD card reader). But what will happen in Windows? Will it not recognize the card? Will it prompt me to format the card? Thanks in advance!
Reasoning behind that is that my SD card seems to make problems on my HTC10 (HTC is losing it all the time) and I thought about maybe removing and "cloning" the SD on my Windows machine. I already purchased a new SD card but I don't want to reset my phone to factory settings to use it
[Any other ideas on that would be greatly appreciated too]
Thank you!
Sam

Nope. The phone encrypts the card and only it holds the key to unencrypt it. You have to format the card for the PC to recognize it.

Thank you very much! Noticed that when I just tried to put it in my PC. One approach that I have now is to try to "Migrate" the data back to internal storage at the time when the phone would recognize the card so I may switch off the adoptable storage configuration of my SD on my HTC10. Then I'm going to replace the SD and try to re-enable it. Thus I hope I can avoid the complete re-setup of my phone.
Strangely enough though, I noticed that the phone is also running without the (adoptable storage) SD card. Some apps are greyed out, some functions missing, but the basics work.
Is this normal?

[Q] After 2.3.4 Update - SD Card Problem.

After the gingerbread update, the phone will not see that any sd card is installed (it did prior to the update). I've tried 2 different cards, mess with connection, press down the metal housing. Need some help please, thanks.

Have you tried Settings > Storage > Mount SD Card?

does your computer recognizes it?
Well, the mount sd card is grey'd out, not selectable. Both cards can be accessed by the computer.
After 2.3.4 Update - SD Card Problem
Same here,
Had 2.2.2 and flashed the official 2.3.4 sbf and memory card is not recognized now.
Tried different cards as well and nothing. Mount and Format are grayed out.
Flashed it with SD and Sim out... If that might make a difference.
Maybe I should try flashing with the sd in?
Any suggestions?
I figured it out
Connect the phone (Mass Storage) with the SD in via USB and check if 2 partitions are recognized on the PC 1st (internal) and 2nd (SD-not accessible).
While connected to the PC take the cover off atrix and remove SD and slide it back it, if it doesn't see it instantly try again. The phone should say that it has detected the card. You might have to format it if it's not FAT32
No need to flash it again.
Hope this helps
Cheers
This is what worked for me
I had the same issue, and could not find the fix anywhere. I tried every fix I found in any posts. But nothing worked. I could not format or mount my SD Card.
Then, I noticed the "internal sd storage" said "not available"...
... I thought hmmmmmm... so I formatted it.
And after that, I could format the External SD Card and mount it...
Hope this helps somebody else.
Apparently, if it fails to mount the internal storage, it will fail to mount the external as well...
Cheers!

Rezound won't recognize MicroSD card suddenly

Lately my phone will not recognize the SD card, I'm running the VipeROM on my phone. I have tried a different MicroSD card, same thing, and both cards appear fine when put in the laptop. This has just started recently, any suggestions? I'm hoping to not have to reflash the ROM if possible.
Thanks-Dan
Anybody?
Maybe you have to manually mount it. Go to settings then scroll down and click on storage. You will see your internal storage and external storage. Mount the external storage if not already mounted. If thats not the case then your rezound is going bad. I dont think it has anything to do with the rom but if you want, just do a back up and wipe and re install rom.

[Q] LG Realm 4.4.2 - Setting SD Card as Primary Storage?

Hi all,
I just got my hands on a Boost Mobile LG Realm. It turns out this phone only has 1gb of internal storage. I popped in a micro sd thinking it would solve the issue. It turns out that you cannot save apps to the SD card. Shoot, some of my apps don't even have the option of setting the SD card as the primary save location.
I have done some research, but alas I still need some assistance. Can someone tell me how I can use my SD card as my primary storage on Kit Kat 4.4.2? I have discovered that my phone has an emulated external storage so that it stops the SD card from being used as a primary storage.
I have successfully rooted the phone via Towelroot, and I have frozen/uninstalled some bloat ware using Titanium Backup
Edit: I have attached my vold file via dropbox: dropbox com/s/ihpfoo4h79kaphx/vold.fstab?dl=0
Like I said I have done some research and the code in my vold file does not match the ones in the guides.

Your gonna be kinda stuck. While you can move the apps to sdcard with a few tools the app data will still be on the internal storage. There are a few ways to move that also but due to the way sd cards work on Android it kills app performance and may even stop the app from working all together. This is due to android removing all sd card code from stock Android and each OEM has to add it back on their own so coding is different from one device to another.

Default storage on Acer Liquid Z630

Hi,
I own an Acer Liquid Z630 that I successfully rooted following this guide. I unlocked the bootloader, flashed TWRP and installed the SU zip, everything's working perfectly.
But during the process, my phone somehow decided to "switch" internal storage and external SD card, making SD card the default storage. SD card is now labelled as sdcard0 and internal memory as sdcard1, while it should be the opposite, and apps data are now written on the SD card instead of the internal memory.
When I unmount the SD card, internal storage becomes default storage again and is correctly labelled as sdcard0, but as soon as I mount it again, the same problem happens.
I want default storage to always be internal storage, even if the SD card is mounted, like it was before. I don't want my phone to write any file on my SD card, I only want files I put myself to be on my SD card.
I tried factory reset, but it remained the same. I did a little searching and saw a lot of threads with people asking how to make SD card the default storage (in my case, that's the exact opposite), but apparently, on Lollipop there's no way to change default storage. But it did change when I rooted my phone...
I also thought about updating to Marshmallow, as I heard storage is managed differently, but there's no official upgrade by Acer, and I could'nt find any unofficial port for Z630.
This has been bothering me for quite a while now and I don't konw what to do anymore, so any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

I have an UNROOTED ACER LIQUID Z630 and it does the same.
Its not a matter of it being rooted or not; every time you mount an SD card, memory option nÂș1 for the mobile is SD card.

Recover data from a removed SD card.

Phone the card came out of is a Doogee S68 Pro. I configured the SD card to be internal memory and for the camera app to save pics taken to the SD card. I assumed when the SD card was full the camera would save back to the internal memory but instead it gave an error saying storage full and wouldn't take more photos. There was no option within the camera app to switch the save location to the internal memory so I removed the SD card. This forced the camera to now save to internal memory. BUT. Now when I put the SD card back in it doesn't read and says I need to format the card to use it. Same result if I put the card in different android phones or pug it into a PC. I don't want to format the card because I want the pictures on it.
How can I get the image files off this SD card? I've tried a few file recovery programs without any success. I don't have a linux machine, just a PC, and I have no experience with rooting phones or the like.
Probably card is in raw mode now.
What you mean by saying that you have configured card as an internal storage?

The External SD-card got encrypted as soon as you decided to use it as internal memory. It's no longer readable by any card-reader. IMHO forensic tools are needed to retain the data stored there.

When I pulgged it in the first time it gave two options, use as internal memory or as mass storage device. I choose the internal memory option.

I feared this was the case. I don't understand why the original phone cannot decrypt the card though as it would with a Samsung device. I have sent a support request tot he phone manufacturer so hopefully that bears fruit.

Ok thank you for confirmation. As above card encrypted and furthermore you might have lost all the data of the phone as well as sms , apps, updates basically everything since you choose that option has been storage on ad card, and your internal storage was not used or useless in a different world, access has been denied to it.
Which tools have you tried to recover data?
