How do I stop updates and notifications for updates? - T-Mobile LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there anything I can freeze or delete with TiBackup to stop my phone from popping up the "System update downloaded" dialog? All T-mo related stuff has been frozen as well as fota if it makes a difference.... TIA

Anybody?

I'd like to know as well. Until I know there's root for whatever release, no 'added features' will make it worth while to break my v4a!

Go to Settings-Sound and Notification-Apps and block notifications for Google Play Services.

I'd you are rooted you can use the app called DisableService to disable some parts of google framework updates. I'm using it on mine to disable the OTA until root is acheived.

[Q] AT&T Bloatware list for removal after root

Now that we have root, Thanks to the awesome Da_G, I would like to know which bloatware is safe to remove from the AT&T rom...
I have Titanium Backup, and have frozen a dozen of obvious apps or so, but it seems that the list of installed applications and services is in the hundreds...
I am not sure which ones are safe to remove, and the ones that would affect the overall phone functionality.
Anybody has a list of the applications and services that can be safely frozen or uninstalled?
Thanks!
I uninstalled att messageing app without root.

Well, are you using a different messaging app?
Are you loosing any functionality without it?
(SMS, Voicemails, etc...)
Any other apps worth removing?
Thanks.
Voicemail and message work fine.

[Q] Disabling bloatware / AT&T apps

I haven't seen a list of bloatware / AT&T apps that are safe to remove. So I thought I will ask:
- Which apps that you know are NOT SAFE to remove?
- I keep seeing in the task bar a double-arrow icon, indicating that an AT&T app is checking for software update. As a matter of fact, I did receive a message from it about a new software update. Which .apk I need to disable for this?
Again, this is only for the bloatware.
I deleted everything that had at&t in front of it. At&t messaging, my at&t, at&t navigation and the at&t update services thats the blue and red arrows you are seeing. I did this through task manager.

I should also mention that I am rooted using a stock gingerbread rom.

Thanks for the info. No problem so far with freezing these AT&T apps, including AT&T Update Services?
BTW, when you said "delete", did you mean "freezing it with Titanium Backup" or you actually REMOVE the .apk?
I froze the above apps using TB, but it is still shown in Google Play as being installed and needing update.
You can search XDA for "apps safe to remove". The SGS-II forums have a spreadsheet that works for the note.

With Google Play, the feature to DETACH from Market no longer works. So even if the app is frozen, it is still shown in Google Play, especially if there is an update.
This applies to ALL bloatware. After a while, you'll see tons of these in your Google Play list and you no longer can select
"Update All".
Can we SAFELY move the .Apk from /system/apps?
I deleted them. I froze them first and then deleted ecerything with at&t on it through task manager.

I delete a majority of the bloatware, especially if I know I will never use it.
How did you DELETE these built-in apps?
There is NO uninstall feature, even when accessing it from System --> Applications --> Manage Applications.

If you have root on your phone, many third party apps will allow you to delete them. A popular one around here is Titanium Backup. I highly suggest installing this and purchasing the key (although the free version will work just as well). Its a staple in apps to install for rooted phones.
I deleted them through task manager. I used the uninstall feature. Try it.

same here, social hub deleted and no problems........and of course all the AT&T crap since I'm with TMobile
Just a helpfull hint for safety.
Personaly I would use titanium backup (in batch) to freeze apps you may want to uninstall.. leave them frozen for a few days to ensure there are no problems.. if once your sure there are no problems you can uninstall them (delete).. Uninstall can be done most of the time though the task manager .. but if that does not work titanium backup will most defently do it..
As someone else pointed out.. I did a search for i717 app safe to remove and got this nice spread sheet..

Successfully Frozen Apps

Now that we have some root access, I figured we could use this thread to report what apps we've successfully frozen/uninstalled, and using which app.
So far from using Rom Toolbox (Pro) I was able to freeze the following:
-Amazon
-Amazon Kindle
-Backup Assistant Plus
-My Verizon Mobile
-SEAndroid
-Setup Wizard
-Sync Service (backup assistant)
-Verizon Login
-Verizon Mobile Security
-Verizon Remote Diagnostics
-Verizon Tones
-Verizon Navigator
-Verizon Voicemail
-Voice Recorder
Uninstalled:
-NFL Mobile
-Audible
Cant find/figure out:
-Viewdini apk (no idea what this even is)
-VZW Mobile Hotspot apk
-Audible Re-installs itself.
Some of the apps were stubborn and needed to be frozen a couple of times for it to stick.
I have frozen via TitanBU:

You do know that the built in disable feature cannot disable every app, right? Hence one reason some of us root out phones.
Disabling app is the same thing as freezing if YOU watched the Google videos from there YouTube channel they explained it but Google is not gona use the stupid word (freeze) so they went for (disable) its exactly the same effect and does exactly the same thing nothing different at all !

I could be mistaken but i think when you don't root, there isn't ALWAYS an option to disable an app. I know on my wife's phone there are some apps she has to leave in the app drawer because when you go to disable it, the "disable" button is greyed out. You can't click it.
If you root, you can disable EVERY app, even the ones with the greyed out buttons.
But i'm sure if i'm wrong you will correct me with all caps and annoying exclamation points

If only you could disable every app... On the S3 and Note 2 there are several pre-installed Google, Samsung, and Verizon apps that can't be disabled or removed without the use of root.

Just to clarify, by freezing applications it doesn't remove them, it just stops them from taking up system resources?

All i have to say is one thing and hope this guy can comprehend .... If root is pointless to "freeze/disable" apps and only for flashing roms... then explain to us how you can disable Verizon apps without root (like VZ Backup Assistant) cause without root, the disable button is gone or grayed out.
wow...came here to see what apps people had uninstalled (instead of just freezing them) and all i got was dumber!
so...to try to salvage this thread....

Also the new google+ updates causes that

That is correct. The Google+ Update is causing this. The recommendation is to either uninstall the update OR just going to the app mananager and force stop VZWwavsservice. I did the 2nd option and have not seen it since.

Android System Update Notification: How to disable??

So far, I've only found one thread on XDA where someone is asking how to disable Android System Update Notifications. Is there a way to do this? The method of disabling LGFOTA.apk for the LG G4 does not work. I'm currently rooted on 20J.
Thanks!

As I already wrote in another thread:
Go to Settings-Sound and Notification-Apps and block notifications for Google Play Services.
Won't that block ALL updates for Google Play Services such as if ANY apps have any updates available? Isn't it an all-or-nothing kind of thing with blocking notifications and not just for T-Mobile updates? Plus, my notifications show that this is already blocked but I'm still getting the notification for the T-Mobile update.
I just updated to the latest build through Eliminator's method and that's when I started getting this update notification.
DisableService app. I'm using it right now for this very reason. There are threads on xda on how to configure it.
