Guys
I bought a edge s7 to up grade my note 3. I returned it. Guess what I found out...if you upgrade your note 3 to a modern phone like and s7 you will loose the ability to text and data at the same time using Sprint network. Found out the hard way. I was able to return my S7 edge . Sprint is not investing in VOLTE yet so there is no way to voice and data simultaneously over the air with a new phone.
I have to go to t mobil to be able to do that with a new phone.
Be advice

Ooooh I thought everyone knew they took that feature out of the newer phones. I find that extremely stupid though, isn't good business about improving something if your going to take out a great feature. I refuse to upgrade my phone until they bring back the dual function of Internet using at the same time as phone talking

Nope news to me dude found out the hard way. I was able to returned the S7 edge . I am looking into T mobil because they had implemented VOLTE.
Sprint it's at least 2 years out.

Hey Guys,
I have no choice but to swap my rooted AT&T Gnote with my Dad's International Gnote in the next few days. My dad's phone is unlocked so I can use it fine when it gets here in the US.
But ... my phone is not
I read somewhere that AT&T is mandated to give unlocked codes if 1) Phone is not exclusive 2) if it is more than 6 months old.
In a few days, my phone will be more than 6 months old (Sunday to be exact - early Note adopter here). Also we know Note is on Tmobile so its not exclusive anymore.
So my question is --> Do you think AT&T will hand out codes if the phone is 6 months old?
EDIT: If AT&T will not give out codes, what is the cheapest or hopefully free method to unlock the phone?

The other thing I needed to ask is about remote controlling a phone FROM a PC. It is like Splashtop/Logmein but the other way around.
Sometimes it is very hard for me to describe to my dad on what keys to press etc etc .. so I decided to find a tool/software just for me to have full remote access to the phone from his PC (tethered via USB) when I am remoted to that PC in Asia. (Inception baby!)
Or it would be better if I could just directly remote in to his phone from my PC here in the US - instead of remoting in to his PC and do it from there.
Any thoughts about this guys?
Thanks in advance!
I know this isn't helpful, but if your dad can't figure out what button to press then just get him one of those jitterbug phones

lol .. if you find a jitterbug that is about 5.3 inches that can play movie clips ..im all ears
My dad can use the phone fine, play movies, etc .. he is not that tech idiot. .. but sometimes, i need him to go deep in the settings, like check the battery stats, go to some other deep settings in mobile network and many more. That is where he gets lost.
I just hope I can find a program so I can control it for him also he was a nokia fan-man .. all his phone life it was all nokia .. so I want to control it and teach him .. after that I'm sure he will be fine.
I believe At&T will unlock your phone if it is not currently under contract.
Here is an example of a remote control app:

Holy Crap .. I got my hands on my this international Note ... wow .. just wow .. the speed difference is soooooo far apart. The international note is just soo much faster. Exynos FTW.
Anyway, back to the unlock questions .. I'm willing to pay money to have this unlocked. I think Cellunlocker.net is the way to go.
However, once if I unlocked it, would it be permanent? What if I changed ROMS .. will the unlock persist?
Thanks!
Unlocking from a particular carrier is permanent. Flash any and all roms.
In May I purchased new S6 edge for my wife outright to keep Verizon Unlimited data. In August we switched to T-mobile due to the need to have Wi-Fi Calling to get any.... yes any.... service at my new house. The phones functionality is at best limping along at this time we have done several factory resets. All APN settings have been verified by T-Mobile. The phone is just handicapped now and worst of all No Wi-Fi calling due to non T-mobile rom. My son has a Nexus 5 and I have a Nexus 6 so I just threw stock t-mobile roms on them and all is well everything works as perfect as one would expect. These piece of **** branded garbage Samsung phones my wife loves leave me confused about what is possible.
Question 1: Can I flash a T-mobile Stock rom to a Verizon S6 edge or will it brick this thing?
Question 2: Does anyone know what benefit having 6 different model numbers for each of the carriers provided Samsung? There couldn't have been a cost savings! Making one phone that works on all carriers seems like the most cost effective option, hence the benefit of my 2 nexus devices.
Thanks in advance for any help guys.

You will hard brick if you attempt to flash a tmobile rom. The only smartphone I am aware of that works on all carriers is the iPhone. My suggestion for you is sell your phone on swappa and buy one in similar condition for a similar price that is compatible with T-Mobile. For that I also suggest swappa
So I've been out of the loop for about a year now and looking to grab the Honor 5X US version on at&t or T-Mobile. My last phone I kept for 2 years almost ZTE Boost Max(Iconic)
and basically all I did was play with it. Meaning root, PhilZ, Link2sd, Viper4android, and most importantly Xposed.
My questions. Is it a easy plug n play going to a new carrier at&t or T-Mobile in the US with this phone. No issues at all right.
Is all development pretty good. Plenty of options. With the ZTE phone is 1 option for everything and nothing else. I did end up with a custom rom/kernel and a overclocked cpu. Do we have those options.
Thanks in advance I've limited the phone choices to just a couple. $250 budget and want development options and ease of carrier use
AT&T won't be a problem. T-Mob is missing support for LTE Band 12. I've read in these boards that support is coming soon (maybe in the MM update?). I'm not sure about WiFi calling. Normally you need carrier firmware for that type of functionality though.
Dev support seems healthy enough. I'd recommend looking in the development section and judging for yourself
It should be noted that while band 12 support is missing, you can still use the phone on T-Mobile, and you can still get 4G LTE (if it's available in your area).
I don't have WiFi calling here, and you probably do need carrier firmware for that.
Wifi calling wasn't really something I need. I've never experienced good wifi calling reception in the past. I just remember a year or so ago when the new wave of unlocked phones hit like One Plus, and so on there were always issues with not having LTE or something. Good to know at&t is fully supported. I'm a buy and hook up myself online person. Can't stand dealing with customer service on the phone.
So ultimately hows the phone in terms of everything. Signal? Options? Dependability?
So we still don't have MM available on the phones? This is concerning as I wanted the newest OS. The one thing I never liked about android vs Apple. When an update hit, everyone within a 2 year old phone got that update that day. MM came out around XMas so I was hoping for it.
Thanks for the replies and I'm late replying as I'm just a very patient shopper. Any new phone I buy I keep 1-2 years depending
If y'all want latest updates to android. Then there's no doubt about it as we all know this on XDA.........buy a nexus devices

Guys
your NOTE 3 using Sprint network that the mighty S7 does not (and many others). You can do data and voice at the same time.
I bought an S7 edge and guess what driving down the road using WAZE and get a phone call talking thru my car speakers…. try to alert drivers of a policeman while still talking and had no network….
I can do that in my NOTE 3 all they long.
On the phone again with a client …. tells me I just email you something so we can talk about it…. Guess what no email while talking on the phone.
I can do that with my NOTE 3 all day long…
Get the picture?
I return the S& and I am back on the NOTE 3.
They use the term phone upgrade very loosely
Please not this is on the Sprint network and no WIFI.
Just had to go back to my N3 as my year and a half old N4 was being a p.o.s.
Note 3 is better phone. And I thought I upgraded. NOT

Are you able to activate it?
So I got my unlocked version from samsung and tried to activate through sprint with the sim card from my s7edge and they are telling me I need to purchase a new sim because this one isn't compatible
What gives?
Had to do the same thing with my S8+ coming from S7 edge. Quick trip to Sprint store with your new phone in hand and they will give you the Sim card and activate it. You probably will not be charged either. I didn't and I bought my S8 from Best buy.

is there any reason to buy the sprint version instead of the unlocked phone? Once you activate the phone on sprint doesn't it just download all the bloatware?..
I had an order from Samsung but I'm about to cancel it since people who ordered after me are already getting their phone and I'm still in preorder status
Is anyone going to flash the sprint stock on their unlocked to get carrier functions? Do we need a special version of Odin like the s8+?

what carrier functions are missing? I could be wrong but locked boot loader means no flashing?

We can flash stock software's just like the S8 and S8+ with odin...they are signed....to mix parts of the software they used a different version of Odin,
I was just seeing if anyone is going to try right away...
So i am in NYC and called /stopped by stores and none have the note 8 or sim cards for it.
Sprint is supposedly overnighting the cards to me. so I have a phone that can't active since no sim .

I was genuinely curious I haven't been on android in 4 years and I'm coming back. I have sprint version ordered but like I said I'm about to cancel it... so I can order unlocked version and actually flash firmware later? as long as it's been officially signed?

That's what they have been doing with S8+...check out the S8+ forums and see if it something you want to try...
I had the same problem trying to use my s7e sim. Thanks to a user on reddit I found a solution. You need a new sim. The sim fro the s8 and s8+ will work for the Note 8. Here is the sim info.
SKU: CZ4114LWQ
UPC: 854798005125
Part: SIMOLW416Q
Model: ISIM V2
I had to go to 3 different corporate stores before I found one that carried it.
can someone be specific in any of the missing features or functionality of the unlocked phone when using on Sprint's network?..
my carrier phone order from 8/29 is still stuck in pre order. a big reason I had ordered carrier was to not get stuck waiting and because I assumed the unlocked phone would not operate as well as the carrier phone on sprints network. so, how does it work?
I've had unlocked phones on sprint before. The only big thing I've noticed that's missing is the sprint free wifi calling functionality (it doesn't work very well, so I never use it), and their wifi security app. Everything else is good.
I just ordered an unlocked note 8 (note 7 promotion). My reason for unlocked is I find they hold their resale much better then the carrier specific phones.
Unlocked version:
Hotspot - Awesome
Download Booster - Awesome
No Bloat - Awesome
Wi-Fi Calling - working awesomely
Sprint Version:
LTE Calling - I might miss, might be worth flashing Sprint mod when available...

You can flash the unlocked firmware in the guide section using Prince Comsy's firmware...
so what's the real benefit to buying the unlocked version ? is the bootloader is still locked ?
