Hi guys,
I've just unlocked my device and want to root. Not particularly bothered about flashing custom ROMs, but I do want to root the device and clear out some of the stock apps that I don't use.
Info:
- MIUI 8 Stable
- 8.0.1.0 LAICNDG
I'm running the 3GB/32GB version of the device, if this helps.
What do I need to do from here? I've seen lots of different info on different sites but thought XDA would be the best place to get a definitive answer..
I need to install TWRP (easy enough if it's just flashing via fastboot in terminal) and then flash SuperSU or some sorts.
Any help is appreciated.
All you need is download MIUI Developer ROM for your device (Redmi 3)..
Developer ROM is pre-rooted, you can enable root access in Security (this is an app) > Permissions > Root Access.. #CMIIW

Thanks - I did try this in the past before MIUI8 was officially released but could not get Gapps working on it at all so reverted to Stable 7. Now on Stable 8 though. Is there a way of rooting the stable build?

I use MIUI 8 Global Stable and tried to root it using TWRP + SU but no luck, it's just stuck on boot screen, and haven't found any tools/ways to root Global Stable Version..
Just try current Global Developer ROM (MIUI 8), it's should be fine..

Hi I'm really new to Xiaomi phone, and I'm trying to do some flashing to other custom ROM. I have some basic knowledge flashing custom ROM with my previous phone. So I want to ask, in case I got bootloop, what should I do? Is it just usually clearing cache on TWRP?
Sent from my Redmi 3S using XDA-Developers mobile app

Hey - so i've just flashed China developer rom, managed to get gapps all up and running but non of the root apps seem to work.. I can grant them access but nothing seems to actually action. Any ideas? Is it easier to just flash a custom recovery now that i'm on that rom?
Thanks for your help!

Hi guys
Ive just purchased the great kenzo last week
I just wanted to know how do i root my phone
It has 8.0.5.0
I wanted to know is there a way to do this so that i dont lose warranty
Also as i understand i will have to unlock bootloader to do this and for that i will have to place a request with xiaomi thus voiding my warranty
So is it possible to just root and not void warranty
Also if there are any options to install custom roms as well without losing warranty
Any help will be appreciated guys
I am from India
Anybody??
Requesting a bootloader unlock will not void your warranty
It is easiest done in this order:
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Flash TWRP recovery
3. Flash SuperSU to root.

You DO NOT have to unlock your bootloader to flash twrp and then root your phone. Please see this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/red...-to-flash-twrp-recovery-unlock-t3473294/page8
It worked very well for me.

I think it will only work reliably on a Marshmallow based rom. So you will need to flash the latest global beta in edl mode.

Excellent work mate
Didnt expect such a quick reply, thnx
Just so that I've got this right..
I install this via edl using miui flash tool and changing the recovery to twrp in the package before installing
And then either i can root that rom or install any other rom
I do not have to unlock bootloader to do this right or install another rom following this?
What recovery would u suggest
Thanks again for ur help mate:good:

I would just flash global rom, unlock bootloader and then you can flash recovery via adb. It's easier.
Just use standard TWRP or Alka.

I used Zcx twrp. It can read the encrypted data partition in Marshmallow and also disable dm-verity in the locked bootloader. You must boot into recovery immediately after flashing the ROM and before booting into MIUI or twrp will be over written.
I have not flashed other ROMs, but I did root MIUI by flashing SuperSU from twrp without any problems.

Zcx twrp has SuperSU included that you can flash. That worked for me on 6.9.29. I have since upgraded to 6.10.13. You should check out the Zcx twrp thread on the guides forum.

From what I've read, that is a general problem when you revert from a MIUI mm based ROM to a lollipop ROM. There are several threads on how to solve the problem.
Good luck.

I think you'll have to search for the threads here or on the MIUI forums. I don't remember the full procedure, but I think it involves flashing an older version of the developer ROM before flashing the stable ROM. I have not done it myself. Xiaomi even warns in the MIUI forums that reverting to the stable Lollipop ROM from the LL developer ROM is difficult.
Good luck.

Good news. I'm glad it worked out.
I'm new for redmi note 3 it just i have buyed this phone few weeks ago
My phone is locked (I don't care if it will get unlock)
My phone is not root obviously (because when i was first switch to rn3 it was very difficult for me to live without root but now its ok i can live without it
So i have stock miui 8.0.6.0 installed
I have seen people saying dev rom is better give better bettry life , alredy rooted and many more things.
So what u guys will suggest me to update it to global dev rom miui marshmallow
Or i should stay happy with stock miui 8.0.6.0
Global developer ROM doesn't come with root ..China developer ROM comes with root ..I'm personally on global developer ROM and imo it's much better than stable ..there are new features evey week and the ROM is stable enough to use as daily driver ..I'd suggest you to install global dev ROM ..China ROM has a lot of ads and a lot of stuff in Chinese..plus there is lack of Google apps also ..so I wouldn't go for China developer ROM

Greetings!
Is there any reliable way to install a custom recovery + root on this rom (Global 10.0.2.0 OEGMIFH)?
If not possible, can I install a custom rom? I've heard about some problems regarding roll backs...
Thank you in advance for your time

With unlocked bootloader you can install them following the thread indicated before but with locked one it´s not possible by now; it´s needed that some developer can inject root and disable integrity check from ramdisk to can flash a rooted boot through edl but I didn´t find no one that knows how to do it yet.
I am currently running MIUI 10 China Stable and have a locked bootloader, I would like to install the official China Developer ROM, does anybody know how I should install it correctly?
well according to the information on MIUI forums you need an unlocked bootloader for the fastboot flash method.
https://en.miui.com/thread-4765806-1-1.html
Can't use local update to go from stable<>developer and vice versa.
You can just download the recovery rom from MIUI forum and use the updater option "Choose update package" to change to developer ROM without needing to unlock bootloader. The tablet however will need to be wiped upon flashing the new ROM.
I don't think there are any..

I got to the developer ROM, but now I want to go back to the stable ROM and I don't know if I can because of anti rollback. The developer roms anti rollback status is 1, does anyone know what the stable roms is!
xiaomi eu Based on China Stable rom Adnroid 10
V11 11.0.1.0
Download from here
install from twrp recovery
Yeap, nice one, just dirty flashed (Clear cache & dalvik 1st) from mi.eu stable 11.0.8.0 via OrangeFox.
Everything works great so far, no issue, better then mi.eu stable v11.0.8.0 Android Pie.
One note: since the ROM upgrades Android version from 9 to 10, the data encryption changes (if you enable it), so the next time you boot into recovery after upgrade you won't be able to decrypt data to flash new stuff (as I tried to do with Magisk). Normally the recovery displays a password prompt for decryption but in my case they didn't. My solution is to flash the latest TWRP from the official website. Not sure if anyone would encounter this problem, so I'll just throw it out there.

You need to upgrade your TWRP Recovery.
I was using OrangeFox R10.1_3 when I upgraded to mi.eu Android 10, it works great with Android 10 encryption, I can see files after I enter my lockscreen pattern and flash files (I only flashed hosts file, I don't use Magisk).
