Official vs unofficial unlock, pros & cons - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I would like to know what advantage or disadvsntage there is by using unofficial unlock vs official method, besides not having to wait for approval from Xiaomi.
From what I've read the chance of bricking is higher using unofficial unlock.
Also, if I unlock unofficially, can the phone be unlocked officially when or if I get approval from Xiaomi?

I would prefer official unlocking as via unofficial method, you are actually messing with the boot sector of your phone...
I myself have officially unlocked, so i would say that you should go for the official method. It takes some time but it's worth the wait..
And you can't officially unlock after you have done it by the unofficial way....

Wow, thanks. I did not find anywhere you could not officially unlock if you unlocked unofficially first.

That's not entirely true, that's why glock.
You can flash the bootloader to lock the device once again, then proceed with the official unlock. I can't tell you in great detail, but I do know that as the SD variant of the note 3 has an EDL mode, you can flash the entire device fresh to an official fastboot rom, which will lock the device again and allow you to follow the official unlock path. The MTK variant you'd have to read up on.
The down side of going unofficial is that flashing a rom with a bootloader included will lead to an unlock, which in turn can lead to a brick. There are TWRP builds that have been made to avoid this problem, and there are multiple guides on XDA and the MIUI forums on how to manually avoid this happening to help. That is the only real downside I know of. Providing you're careful and use the correct TWRP or follow the guides to manually ensure you don't lock the bootloader by updating or changing a rom, there should be no issue.

locked bootloader

hi to everyone,
'till last week I was able to install every custom rom I wanted to on my mediapad, but now, after reinstalling an original one, my bootload is locked!?!
How can it be?
Fastboot says my lovely brick is LOCKED.
Is there a way to unlock it?
How?
Thanx in advance.
Dan
Just flash older fw version from huawei website. Last 2 or 3 versions are with locked bootloader.
This might work:
fastboot oem unlock
Why would they start locking the bootloader?? Locked bootloaders cause bricked phones

try to flash official c232b005. that is the last stable official rom that not lock the bootloader.
huawei starting to lock the bootloader from the released rom after that, for device s7-302u. maybe they think with locked bootloader user cant or difficult to root or anything else with the device. that can minimize the device brick.

Unofficial unlocked, just got text for official unlock permissions

I received my phone a couple days ago and got tired of waiting for the confirmation text so I did it the unofficial way. I now have permission to access the official unlock tool, which is great.
Can I just run the official unlock over my unofficial unlock for less issues? What are the correct steps to transition from "unofficial" to "official"?
Thank you.
Brick your phone by flashing official rom, then unlock bootloader from fastboot. If that fails use the fastboot to EDL tool and flash china dev rom

Choosing a good plan to migrate to CyanogenMod

Hi people,
I just bought a new Redmi note 3, and I would like to pass him into cyanogenmod.
Here what i'm attending to do.
Safe the stock room
unlock the bootloader (unofficialy)
root the phone
install the CyanogenMod
1 : For doing the backup I was there are many versions of TWRP.. so which one use ?
2: I don't want to wait half month or even more just the unlock the bootloader ! so i guess I will go unofficially any good link
# I just saw that topic apparently it's possible to flash the TWRP without unlocking the bootloader.. is that method is compatible to put CyanogenMod after ?
3: Any good method, link will be welcome
Thank folks.
1. Alka twrp can backup the most partitions
2. Backup request will be accepted within hours lately.. but yeah that method is possible
Have to agree with that. Officially unlocking bootloader is a mostly painless process nowadays. It's quite possible to unlock your bl officially in less than a week. Since it looks like you know what you're talking about, I'm sure I don't need to tell you the possible benefits of having an offically unlocked bl over the unoffically unlocked one.
Personally, I think the best method is as follows:
Unlock bl officially
flash twrp through fastboot
flash twrp Alka
backup all partitions into sd card
flash appropriate cm firmware
flash rom, gapps, etc
flash apollo sound mod(cause it's great)
Please feel free to disagree.
Ivanlai I don't know If I will still unlock the Bootloader -> New method to flash Twrp recovery !! without unlock bootloader ! (kate/kenzo) safe ! by supercowz

official method to unlock bootloader

Hi everyone,
So here's my query
Back in March I have unlocked my redmi note 3 bootloader by OFFICIAL way of redmi. But I now I m thinking what was the use of doing with official way why not unofficial.
In simple words can someone tell me down in comments section
What benefits I can get over official rather someone who has unlocked unofficially!!
Thanks
Best way is to unlock it by official method .
Read here an answer from an advanced user from miui forum:
"Hello,
Official way of unlocking is considered as the safest way of unlocking bootloader since it is done with MiUnlock Tool, and if the BL is unlocked then it won't relock during an OTA update or while flashing an incremental rom and the only way to relock BL is to flash fastboot rom through Miflash, but you have to get permission from Xiaomi for unlockin and it will take sometime. But on the otherhand unofficial way doesn't required any permission and risk factor is involved in this method, where you have to use stock rom emmc file to replace miui emmc and need to flash through Miflash, many users reported that they have bricked their device by following the same. In order to flash rom's, everytime you have to replace emmc, if you forgot then you will end up in bootloop. I guess I have cleared your doubt.
Thank you. "

Question TracFone unlocking policy

Do they mean network unlocking or bootloader unlock? Has anyone been successful in unlocking their bootloader on this website?
I have this device and it's for cricket and it says not a supported device at the Motorola website. So tho I have the twrp I can't flash it until I unlock my bootloader which I pray someone can get around. That's what you guys do fingers crossed....but until there's a way to unlock my bootloader I have to look at the twrp and root images without being able to use them or root ....someone told me you can flash a different bootloader so I figured someone with the same Motorola G Power 2021 but different carrier can provide you their firmware and images for boot and so on. Plz help thanks again and Merry Xmas to all

You could always download the firmware from other moto builds and variants on the lolinet site. The problem is you will most likely brick your device attempting to flash, if you're even able to, or using RSA to trick it into recovering a build not designed for your phone. I'm not experienced with Cricket devices, but I'm assuming since they are based on ATT network that they are not eligible for bootloader unlocking. Though that's a huge guess on my part since that normally is up to the carrier and both ATT and Verizon find much of their purpose executing their right to do so to their hearts content.

That website talks about "network unlocking" as you call it. Not bootloader unlocking.
