Hello all,
Moto E 2015 Surnia (XT1526) here. I've been on a stock 5.1 ROM for a while. Was bored and flashed a 6.0.1 ROM, set up, runs smooth as butter, etc.
One thing I noticed is GPS is VERY wonky. In a navigation app (waze) when driving, sometimes it has me off to the right, to the left, which makes it go off route if theres an exit and re route. Also when stopped, it turns 180 degrees, then back, making it re route. I thought it was the magnetic mount I had, lack of sky visibility, nope.. I re positioned with no luck.
I never thought it was coincidental, thought maybe my phone was broken or over heated.
Low and behold. Flashed back to a 5.1 ROM and no more issues, and rock solid GPS. My guess since there were never official 6.0 firmwares/drivers, being the issue.
Anyone have recommendations? Is there a ROM out there (6.0.1) that may specifically have a GPS fix? The main purpose for my Moto E is being a GPS. Or anyone using Waze on a Marshmallow ROM on XT1526 with no issues?
Thanks!

Weird. Moto E GPS (on any ROM ) has been fantastic for me -I routinely get 5m or better accuracy. Been on MM ROMs basically since I've had the device.
I'm currently running slim6 (build just before most recent ). Not currently using it as a daily driver, so the first pic below is from an ice cold gps start (zero use since clean flash, and no data connection for agps ). Took about 3 minutes to get a lock, stationary, inside my house with metal roof. Second shot is after turning data on for agps - a couple seconds to reestablish lock, maybe 30 seconds to that accuracy. Stale notifications still popping in from data being turned on.
Maybe try playing with gps toolbox app from play store to see if that helps? There's certainly nothing inherent in MM ROMs that breaks gps on this device.

Thanks for the reply.
I was actually the MM ROM is was on. I tried a CM based one and it works great now.
I thought for sure it was because our phone had no compass.

I'm fairly certain the only time compass gets used in nav apps is to determine (or try to determine ) what direction the user is facing when stationary - even on devices with a compass, gps track is used to determine that when in motion.
Glad it's working for you now.

I just got my S3 today and it has been great so far save for one issue. I seem to be experiencing really bad WiFi performance. I ran a speed test using the speedtest.net app on my iPhone 4 and got around 8 megabits per second down. However, when I ran the same test on my S3, I got about 1 megabit per second down consistently between numerous tests.
I don't have this issue while using LTE, which makes me think that it is a problem with the WiFi antenna. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
Thanks
Mine runs perfect on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands through wifi.
Getting 30Mbits down and 22Mbits up.
does this happen on when connected to any wifi? or just particular one?
Make sure your phone is not on Power Save mode.

Try forcing the WIFI to 2.4GHZ and see if that improves things

Well, I have tested and yes you can get great speeds via the wifi, however something is quite wrong with it too, see my bug post in this subforum.

I have my wifi forced to 5GHz and just now at work I got 49ms ping 33449kbps down and 38990kbps up to a server that is ~200 miles away. Seems to be working fine to me
I have the same issue. It's not as fast as my s2 on WiFi.also sometimes it loses signal and the WiFi turns off by itself and then on. It's really weird

Thanks for all the suggestions. It might have just been a temporary thing because I wiped the cache on my phone using the default recovery, rebooted the phone a few times and now its fine.
I'll keep testing it to check if this issue comes back, but ad of now I'm just glad that it is working now.

That made a HUGE difference for me. From 5mbit/s to 50mbit/s downstream. THANK YOU.
I've had issues also with it "re-initiating wifi" after waking, even though set to keep wifi always... feel like this is truly a bug. Dropping wifi frequently...
Same issue with wifi. I also notice a difference every time as well if I single handly hold the phone back case mid section or higher. Bars go from 4 to 2 or 1. Then back to 4 if I move my hand and palm below the buttons.

I take that back, now I'm getting 10mbit/s down when my laptop does 50mbit/s down shortly after. Tried a few more times, same results. Something is not right with WiFi on this device. It lost 5gHz signal when i stepped outside, not more than 10m from the base station.

Yeah, I have continued to test the wifi on the phone and I am getting inconsistent performance. I hope this can be fixed in a software update and isn't a hardware defect.

we had a few galaxy nexus phones in our office that had horrible wifi performance/signal. i believe that device used the BCM4330 chipset.. which is odd, because my 4s has that same chip (i believe) and the wifi performance/range is great - can anyone confirm what the S3 uses?
Mines keep disconnecting and reconnecting

I posted this in another wifi complaint thread. I don't know if anyone has tried.
I had this problem on my Captivate. It was not very obvious, because the disconnects were so brief. I discovered while working with some Tasker WiFi settings.
The fix was to set my phone to use static addresses. You can use WiFi Static in order to achieve static addresses only where you want. I am using this on my S3, so I don't know if I would have problems without it.
I'd be curious to know if this helps anyone.
My wifi keeps disconnecting and it's driving me crazy anyone have a solution?
Not at all. In fact, when I ran tests against my iPhone 4S my Galaxy S3 on WiFi got faster data speeds every time.
Wifi problem went away for me. Although I know for a fact it's not as fast as it should be.. I'm going to double check my router to make sure

Hi all,
I am currently using AntonX's unofficial CM11 for the P769, and its great except that like CM10.2 seems to be broken. In CM10.1 it worked perfectly and same with the stock ROM as well. So I decided to pull a few files from the stock Jellybean ROM and create a flashable zip that installs the old files that have to do with GPS. It seems to work pretty well as I was able to get a pretty good fix from a cold start in less than a minute using device only location settings, but it doesn't seem to work nearly as well as CM10.1 and stock. Does anybody have any ideas on how to fix this problem (I have already tried using different gps.conf files to no avail)?
Attached below is a screenshot of my latest GPS fix in less than a minute and the flashable zip that I created.
Thanks!

I think your files are the same as the ones already in the ROM.
What's wrong with GPS in CM10.2 or CM11 anyway? It never fails me, I always get a fix within a minute, even on a cold start.
As far as I remember GPS in CM10.1 was a little strange. I think I noticed that sometimes GPSTest was showing yellow bars but accuracy was in hundreds of feet, which actually indicated not a good lock. I may be wrong though, been a while.
Still a Problem

Yeah I think you're right that they're the same files because I was testing GPS again today and it would lock for maybe a second and then if I even moved, it would instantly drop. But this problem is definitely here because on CM10.1 and stock I would instantly have about 13-14 satellites in view, and be able to lock to about 7-9 of them in seconds, whereas now it takes about 1-2 minutes to get 10-12 satellites in view and lock to just five which instantly lose lock when the device is moved about 10ft. This is using the device only method of getting GPS so there is no use of wifi or cell signals to get the location because I have very spotty coverage. I just wanted to point this problem out as I've noticed it on other ROMs too such as BobZHome's CM11.0 and leolawliet's PenberRom5 which is also based on 10.2. Other than this little problem the ROM has been great and I thank you for your work AntonX!
On my P778g, i also noticed a diference between CM10.1.3 and CM10.2/CM11. But after some testing comparing to stock (my father has another p778 with stock rom) i discovered that the only diference is the signal strength: Under a clear sky the GPS works exactly the same but inside a house the roof is too much and the signal seems to be too weak, so it takes a lot more time to fix compared to stock. Keeping in mind that i never use the GPS inside my house this is not a big deal after all. I bet that no one is testing the GPS outside... try it.
If it wasn't winter and I paid my phone bill I'd be happy to go out now and test the GPS on my p769. I'm running omnirom tho, and I don't think it's cm based so I could have different results.
I'll post back here when I get a chance. By the way, the GPS on AOKP wasn't any better.

I usually use a 4.3 rom because of this issue but every now and then I feel like flashing a 4.4 rom just to see if it it would go away.
So on every 4.4 rom i used i got crazy 3g related wakelocks. Is anybody experiencing a similar problem? Here is a photo of BBS:

Thanks to it I've got ****ty battery life (14h tops). I have also tried disabling fast dormancy with this i9300 market app, but it didn't seem to help.
Is there anything I can do?
1. How old your battery is?
2. How much battery life you used to get on 4.3 with similar usage?
3. Which kk ROM you have tried?
4. What was the SOT when you took this screenshot?
1. I guess it's maybe 1,5 years old. I don't expect miracles, but battery time now is patethic.
2. I could reach like two times more, 25h from 100% to 0% with 2h SOT.
3. CM11, SlimKat, and now I am using PAC.
4. I don't remember exactly, but 1,5h tops
Hmm.. looking at your information i can pinpoint it to the 3g wakelock only.
I am finding this on github-
svnet-dormancy / multipdp
Author(s): sven, credits to Entropy512 @xda-dev
Ranking: n/a
Speaking Name: svnet-dormancy / multipdp (those are synonyms, depending on android version)
Rationale: svnet-dormancy is a kernel wakelock related to cell data transfers - Fast dormancy or not, you get a 6 second wakelock any time the radio transfers data
Know actions: Change the duration of the wakelock (use at your own risk). Reduce the wakelock by reducing the amount / number of data traffic requests
Known conditions of occurence:
Caused by data traffic
I am unaware of a solution for this. Maybe someone else will be able to throw more light on this. hang in there.
I'm having exactly the same problem as you, those 3 wakelocks(multipdp, secril_fd and l2_hsic) are killing me. I tried to change ROMs, kernels, radios, but couldn't get rid of them.I've done a lot of research, but didn't come up with the solution for this. I even tried with neatrom, jb version, which is closest to stock, and I have those wakelocks there too.
Any luck?
Hi sheo,
Did you found the root of this problem?
I have the same situation, all kitkat roms I've tried so far (including CM, OMNI, SlimKat and lots which I don't remember anymore) have this wakelock problem.
Some users at the better battery status have tried to help me, but all they suggest is to turn my smartphone in a dumbphone by disabling/uninstalling everything that makes sense to have in a smartphone!
So, (sarcasm=ON) without removing, facebook, google play services, google plus, disconnecting from wifi, going to 2G and dimming my display darker than a black hole, (sarcasm=OFF) were you able to use KitKat on your I9100?
Thank you! :fingers-crossed:

Not an option... It stays hot all the time and can't live without a charger for more than 8 hours even without use...
I just switched back to stock rom from my carrier (Brazil Vivo), as there is no wakelock but it is killing me with slowdowns, glitches, bugs... And that sense of using a 2011 (amazing) phone!
I'm just preparing to install SlimSaber Reborn and came to this threat to check for some hope.
See ya!

Until one tries it, unknown... however since we're theoretically lacking a gyroscope/accelerometer the HUD might be useless... Overheating, maybe, but a couple of tweaks using Kernel Aduitor should help blend performance and keeping things cool...
Works fine
I've been using the honor 5x for a month now, playing pokemon go is fine. Start time is about 20s and it plays smoothly afterwards. Even better than my gf Galaxy note 3 during arena battles.
Alex
When initiating a battle it prompts you saying that your phone's orientation is not detected. Unless you turn off AR mode, you cant continue.
If you don't want AR mode, then you can go for it.

Especially Resurrection Remix
If you are using CM13, your results will be different than running stock Huawei Android EMUI ROM.
I have played Pokemon Go on stock L, stock m, Broken M, CM13 (M)
Stock L is fine.
Stock M is laggy after 20 minutes
Broken M is fine, but laggy after 20mins or turning the screen off
CM13 is fine, but laggy about every 5-10mins.
On all of the above, entering a gym can be stuttery.
Driving down the street (wife driving, not me), the lag is bad enough to not get PokeStops to spin in time (even driving 20mph) about 30% of the time.
If you got this phone and want to play Pokemon Go, I suggest staying on Stock L.
If you are competent with tweaking certain things on your device, I would suggest either CM13 or try to get your hands on Broken M. I have also used AOKP M, and that was perfect. I'm not using AOKP because the one I tested was a private "fun" build- no updates to it.
ALSO
AR Mode works fine on my device regardless as to the ROM I am running. I have never seen any issues with lack of gyroscope. It has always 'just worked'. Perhaps my strange way of updating, downgrading, upgrading my ROM has given it super powers, I don't know. But I can tell you I did upgrade to M without the blobs. Then downgraded to a random ROM... then tried the upgrade again... repeatedly. Then I went full stock L again and took the OTA update... then that locked up, so I installed TWRP and the M backup on this site. Rapid ROM swapping and pasting different boot.img files... might be a dumb thing to do, but I did it.
TL;DR?
I've done so many things wrong and backwards on my device, I wouldn't be surprised if I am unique in my experiences with it. As such, I really do love this p.o.s.
Stock L or Custom ROM is the way to go IMHO.
A troublesome bug that causes the drain (discharge at high speed of the battery) of the MI8 is caused by the voice Mobile standby, in fact if you go in the battery settings, you will notice a high% of consumption of the item in question.
This is caused because, by default in the Xiaomi rom (China or global) is also the search for frequencies also Chinese, this involves an intensive use of the network module that continues in a way to find these Chinese frequencies, which of course in our country , just as all EU countries do not exist, leading to greater use of autonomy.
Xiaomi is already aware of the problem and will certainly be resolved, when it is not known.
In the meantime, you can solve the problem by yourself, as follows:
Enter the following USSD code *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer.
Set the LTE / WCDMA mode to both SIMs
In this way, only the European frequencies will be used, eliminating the battery drain.
You're welcome btw

I agree with you, I really do.
But even if you searched about the device you want to buy even for months before getting it you'll see there is absolutely no device existing without at least 2-3 issues out there.
Even pixels which are what android is and more than that, have problems.
You either bear with it, or stop using smartphones.
And the second option is not a viable choice for me.
P. S. Got a poco before the Mi 8 and refunded it because of the touch lag, I know that Xiaomi doesn't test enough, be it software or hardware.

If this bothers you that much then either flash a custom rom on it, or refund/sell the device and get something else, maybe an OP6T.
I ran a little test today to find out if other devices handle it better and it does appear to be so. Mido battery drain with LTE/WCDMA and LTE/TD-SCDMA/UMTS was exactly the same.

But the cell signal history wasn't...
Redmi Note 4X, Xiaomi.eu 9.5, 70km Highway drive with Waze and internet music stream running, fixed display brightness. Same route in both tests, just opposite directions - hence me flipping 2nd signal history in the following screenshot:
I ran a similiar test on my MI 8 a week ago and there were massive differences in battery drain and signal history...like I said I think MI 8 has a baseband issue that somehow can get amplified by the MIUI default network mode setting.
well i seen someone said that global beta 8.12.20 it is way better.anyone tried it around here?i was thinking of trying it myself actually...i think i'll do and came back with some feedback.
idk I've been on global beta since 10.0.3.0 global stable release and I've had all of these issues. It's possible that android 9 adaptive battery feature in beta 8.12.20 helps a bit.

I have the same problem, my drain was 40% in 8 h in standby mode. I flash my phone to miui 9 and then i update to miui 10 - 10.3.3 global, then i clean al my programs and i don't update sistem apps from Xiaomi. At last i turn off my phone and i charge up to 100%. Now my drain battery per night is 5-6% and last almost 2 days?. Good luck!
