cm13 can't restore aosp - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

hello,
I have installed cm13 and I want to get back to aosp 5.1,
I have twrp backup but when I click to restore there is information that firmware partition is in read-only mounted...
Is there any solution to fix it?
Read only mode is unclicked.

There is a mount option in twrp. Tick firmware and other relevant things there.
Alternatively restore everything except partition. Then flash the aosp rom again without any wipes. Boot it up. You shouldn't lose any data at all.

Hi, which cm13 you used? Some of them will relock bootloader when you flashed it. So, check it via fastboot, type "fastboot oem device-info". You might need to re-unlock.

Thanks for answers.
It was cm13 official...and probably it locked my bootloader again - thanks for tip, then i've install aosp again and next my backup and voila it works

Twrp nandroid restore help

Trying to restore a build from twrp but im getting an error.

No one come across this issue?
By chance, are you using a ZTE ZMAX and flashed the switcher zip at some point? If so, you need to flash the restore zip to give TWRP the ability to write to system again.

I'm not using tha zte device. So I don't think I've used such a zip.
I'm running cm12. 1 on a Xiaomi mi4c and I'm trying to restore a nandroid of a miui build. I have done a new nandroid build of cm12. 1 that I can't restore either.
Could running xposed be an issue?
Not sure--someone with experience with Xiaomi phones might know, but I don't. (Reason I thought maybe it was a ZMAX is that to get system write ability with that phone, the bootloader has to be flashed to the recovery partition because something in the bootloader partition locks down the system. We have zip files that swap the two to each other's partition and swap them back, and if we forget to use the restore zip, recovery won't be able to write to system.)

Partition "Firmware" failed to restore

As everyone already knew, MIUI 8 is not only available for China Developer ROM, it's not yet available for Global. I was on Global MIUI 7 Developer, I was very curious about MIUI 8. So, I tried to flash it through TWRP. Before I flash, I backed up all partitions on TWRP.
Fast forward 20 minutes, MIUI 8 flashed properly, but I want to go back to my original Global Developer MIUI 7. So, I tried to restore every partition through TWRP with the backup I did. Every partition restored successfully, except "Firmware". It gives error "extractTarFork() process ended with ERROR: 255"
In recovery log, it shows that "tar_extract_file(): failed to restore SELinux context ubject_r:vfat:s0 to file" for a lot of files.
It booted up normally, but it failed to detect my SIM card. Wifi working, just no SIM. Baseband version unknown, can't enter Phone Status, SIM cards & mobile networks greyed out. Phone tells that Can't get valid Device ID (Invalid Device ID: null)
Anyone did experienced this? Any solution?
Use twrp to restore again , this time exclude the firmware partition (restore all other partition except firmware). After the restoration complete , use MiFlashTool to flash back the Miui 7 stable

Flash MIUI recovery zip ..it will be proper. Same thing happened to me with twrp alka , firmware restore fails .so what u have to do is restore everything except firmware and then reboot to alka twrp again , wipe everything except internal storage and flash MIUI full recovery rom zip file.

Can't mount /data or /storage from TWRP on Surnia (Moto E).

This is causing problems because it means I can't back-up, wipe or - presumably - install a ROM. I read about changing the type of file-system but I don't think that's something I want to do before I have a back-up. Has anyone got any ideas?
The version of TWRP I'm using is twrp-3.0.2-0-surnia.img
Flash the stock firmware trought fastboot
MOD EDIT: cleaned

Moto Z no OS and stuck on TWRP boot loop

Hi guys
Can't install any OS (tried via ADB commands and flashing custom roms via TWRP).
Whatever I try, it just boots to TWRP.
ADB commands do work because I managed to install TWRP 3.0 and 3.1 for the Moto Z Griffin
Bootloader is unlocked
This device was working fine on Stock Noughat (installed via ADB) and AOKP (installed via TWRP).
Problems began when the camera "failed to start" and in my frustration, I wiped everything via TWRP including system, so now I have no OS.
Not sure why I can't get anything to install.

Had this working for months and needed to wipe so I did a factory reset and all my phone does is boot to twrp
I tried this process again and all goes good or so it seems but just boots to twrp
I tried a restore from my backup from twrp and get all the way done and it fails on "unable to wipe Fsg."
Above there is a bunch of red failed:
Could not mount /data and unable to find crypto foooter
Failed to mount '/data' (Invalid argument)
Unable to recreate /data/media folder
Failed to mount'/cache' (invalid argument)
failed to mount'/system'(invalid argument)
Failed to mount storage
failed to mount'/data'(invalid argument)
failed to mount'/cache'(invalid argument)
failed to mount'/data/media/twrp'(invalid argument)
unable to wipe fsg.
any ideas? right now just a brick here. i have tried flashing roms from twrp and still just boot to twrp
I'm assuming you tried to flash the stock ROM via fastboot?
If so, I'm a little at a loss here. Although since you have TWRP, try flashing the stock ROM along with its recovery following the guide linked below;
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z/development/android-nougat-moto-z-versions-t3506342
And grab the firmware for your device here;
https://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Moto Z/Stock/XT1650-03/
Make sure it's the correct firmware for your device. If you updated to Nougat via an OTA, you have to flash a Nougat ROM. You may also use the one linked in the XDA article, although I can't guarantee its stability.

Maybe it's because I haven't had my coffee yet, but is there a US 7.0 file on that site? I can only find the 6.0 version. I'm on Rodgers nougat rom I flashed a couple weeks ago and I'd like to get on the US version since I've been having apn issues

Sadly, no.
As of right now, there's only a Marshmallow-based RETUS firmware. It'll take a while for someone to post firmware that's Nougat-based for RETUS.

Again, there's sadly no TWRP-flashable firmware for 7.0 RETUS.
There's only one for TELUS. While it works on other XT1650-03s with unlocked BLs, can't guarantee that it's all stable.

Hi.
Do it like this, install TWRP and then the operating system of your choice. There is also the question of how you could install the ROM without TWRP.
Hardbrick with TWRP, never, I don't think so.
I have now easily shot my device 20 times and put it on again and again, definitely shot 100 devices over 10,000 times over the years and never suffered a hard brick.
You can do it, otherwise the heroes will help you here. :highfive:

Hi,
this happens because your system partition is "broken".
If you go to "Wipe" and select "Format Data" there it will delete all partitions and the system of your device.
Then you start again in the TWRP and connect the device via USB to a PC or via OTG to a stick on which you have the operating system of your choice and drag it to your device.
Then select the ZIP / OS in the TWRP under "Install" and have it installed. It also creates the new partitions that he could not find with you.
I wish you success:fingers-crossed:

Don't think format data wipes the system partition does it?
Unless Xiaomi have really changed things, data should be completely separate. Format data should wipe the internal storage only which includes cache partition.
Twrp can wipe system, but shouldn't do unless specifically chosen to do so via several steps, not a single button press.

no data format dont touch system
Yes, of course not the whole system partition, sorry.
From German into English is sometimes not that easy.?
In this case, TWRP will of course only delete the data as it stands there.
Otherwise everyone will find a step by step guide for almost every device a thousand times, thanks to you. So it should be also possible for everyone here.
Best regards and thank you two.:highfive:

I also want to go back to stable ROM
Its very simple to bypass the Anti rollback on miflash, just download the fastboot version of the ROM you want to install, unzip it and you'll have to edit this file (flash_all.bat), with for instance note++. And you remove 5 or 6 lines that does not begin by FASTBOOT. You can't miss it.
You can close and save.
Afterwards, just flash that same file that you just edited, and no more anti rollback error!
A second tip that I have when you just can't install custom firmwares on the mi 10, just flash stock firmware with miflash, reboot and flash TWRP. Transfer your custom firmware to your phone, flash it and ONLY format data afterwards! It was the only way to get a custom firmware on my mi10. It's my 5th xiaomi device and never experienced something like this...tried all TWRP available for the mi 10, but only by doing this way, I was able to succesfully install xiaomi.eu.
Good luck!
